CHAPTER-1.
Nobody would believe that the hero of all was helping the villain. But it was happening. The hero was dragging the villain away from death and to life. What else would he do for the villain was his own father? Luke Skywalker was helping his father, Darth Vader as the galaxy called him now, to get to a shuttle and get away from the Death Star. Of course, no imperial authorities stopped them, for they were busy evacuating and saving their own lives. Every single individual other than the two had placed their own lives before anything else. Loyalty was a mere joke. Who cared what had happened to the Emperor or Vader? All they cared for was their own lives. Nobody could blame them for it too, for they too were people who had lives outside the Empire. They had families to feed. Many had not even seen their families since ages. Many were desperate to live a new life outside the Empire. Nobody could blame them too, for the Empire was pretty harsh with their rules. When the first Death Star blew up, many lost everything. So people kept the evacuation process under way. Even if one person survived, they would live to tell the tale to the galaxy, to the people they loved. Luke was struggling to get his father till the shuttle. The shuttle belonged to him itself. Luke set him on the landing door of the shuttle. Luke took a deep breath. Before he could do anything else, Vader held his hand.
"Remove the helmet. Let me see you with my own eyes." He spoke slowly to his son.
"But you'll die." Luke replied.
"You saved me, son." The father replied. The son shook his head.
"No, not yet, I will have saved you after getting you off this station alive." He replied as he carried Vader and set him on a medical bed. He then attached the wires to his suit which would keep him alive. He then strapped Vader to the bed.
"Now you stay there, while I get us out of here." Luke said as he rushed to the control panel. The Force yelled a warning to him. He fed the full power to the engines and managed to get out of the Death Star right in time for the explosion to occur. He turned the ship to the forest moon of Endor. He then dialed a frequency in the comm link.
"Hello." The reply immediately came.
"Leia, I need immediate healthcare facilities set up on the moon, now." Luke blurted out urgently.
"What? Luke, what happened?" Leia asked in confusion and worry.
"I need healthcare facilities for a burn patient. Set it up quick." Luke repeated. He had entered the atmosphere of the moon.
"What? I'll have a bacta tank ready. Land near the Imperial facility." Leia ordered.
"I'll also need a breathing aid." He added.
"What in the moons of Alderaan happened? I'll get it all ready." Leia replied as she rushed to get everything Luke asked for ready. She ran to the rebel fighters and asked them to ready the following. In a few minutes, a bacta tank, a breathing aid and a stretcher were ready. They stood waiting as they saw an imperial shuttle land. The ramp lowered and Luke was seen inside it, holding someone. Everyone gasped. That someone was the most feared man of the galaxy.
"Get the stretcher here, now." He yelled out as he carried Darth Vader down the ramp, onto the floor of the moon. The stretcher was brought to him and he laid Darth Vader on the stretcher. He then helped them carry the stretcher into the imperial facility. The healers inside were too shocked to react.
"Help me put him into the bacta tank." Luke ordered. The healers shook their heads and moved to help Luke. They slowly removed the suit of the formidable warrior. What they saw under the suit shocked them to the core. Darth Vader was a man like all of them. He had two legs, which were butchered. He had two hands, which too were butchered. He had a face, which was scarred beyond recognition. Luke and another male helper managed to lift Vader and place him inside the bacta tank. Vader didn't protest for he knew where Luke had gotten this quality from. He lay in the bacta tank, deciding to live, for that is what his son wanted, and what his daughter might want.
Luke let out a smile as he saw his father lay in the bacta tank. The healers needed time to recover from this. The fact that Darth Vader was a human had hit them too hard. He walked out to deal with his sister.
Leia was shocked. Luke was carrying Darth Vader, the man who destroyed the lives of many and Alderaan. She saw Luke come out of the facility and stand in front of her.
"What is the meaning of this all?" she asked slowly in a bare whisper.
"Leia, I told you. He's our father." Luke replied slowly and delicately. He bent down and sat on one knee. He placed a gentle hand on Leia.
"What is the meaning of this?" she asked again. This time in a more murderous manner.
"Leia, I…" Luke began.
"How could you do this?" Leia yelled at him. "How could you bring that monster here?" she asked with rage threatening to overflow from her eyes.
"Leia, he is our father. You can't call him a monster." Luke replied slowly.
"He is not our father, Luke, he is not. He is just a puppet of the Emperor. He is the man who destroyed everything which held us together." Leia replied while shaking her head.
"Leia, Leia, no, he has changed. I can feel it from my heart." Luke begged. "Please don't say such things. You're hurting me."
"Liar, you brought him here to kill us. You're a traitor." Leia yelled back. She rose up and glared at Luke with rage. "You wanted to join the Empire."
"Leia, what are you talking about? No, I did not want to join the Empire. I don't want to. He's our father Leia; I felt the goodness in him." Luke begged as he stood up to face a livid Leia.
"Shut up. I, I thought you were different. I thought you could be trusted. I never thought you'd be a traitor. No, no…" Leia yelled at him.
"Leia, please stop. I could never ever even think of doing such things. He's our father. He's no longer the monster we all thought he was." Luke begged.
"Luke he is not a human. He murdered half of the galaxy. How could you? I thought that we could trust you."
"Leia, you can trust. You must. I am telling you he is no longer evil." Luke continued to beg.
"You're a snake, Luke. You're a cheat. You're a monster. I don't know who you are anymore. Get away from me." Leia screamed. Luke then slowly began to come closer than her.
"Leia, please don't say that. I'm your brother. We're supposed to be together." He said as he placed a gentle hand on Leia's arm.
"No, stay away. Don't touch me. I hate you. You're no brother of mine. You're a snake. You're a fucking traitor." Leia screamed at him before yanking her hand away from him and running away from him. Luke followed her to the base and found himself facing the entire rebel flight troops. Many had anger on their faces, few had confusion and the rest had fear. Luke was alone. Wedge Antilles stepped closer to Luke and grabbed his collar.
"How could you fucking do this to us, eh?" he asked while shaking Luke.
"No, wait, let me explain." Luke begged.
"You brought a monster here to kill us all." Another pilot began to yell from the back.
"No, that's not true." Luke was suddenly dropped. He fell to the ground. The people began to crowd him.
"You're a snake, Luke, you're a snake." Wedge said as he shook his head.
"No, listen to me. He's no longer evil." Luke begged. He suddenly felt a kick to his abdomen.
"You snake." Another began to yell.
"Beat him, he brought that monster here to kill us." Another one spoke.
"No, no, listen to me." Luke began as they began to hit him. After a short while, a few blaster bolts were heard.
"Hey, knock it off. He defeated the Emperor and this is how you repay him." A voice called out. Luke felt a hand drag him from the floor and straighten him. Han Solo was standing before him, with Leia behind him. She looked at Luke in pure disgust. Han dusted him a bit and then turned to the crowd which stood before them glaring at Luke.
"Hey, hey, what did I just say? We defeated the Empire, again. And this farm boy helped us defeat the Emperor. This is no time for fighting; this is the time for celebrating. And moreover, Vader is sitting in a bacta tank. He can't even move his body. He does not even have hands or legs. Cool it, all of ya." He said as he dispersed the crowd. The crowd left in lighter spirits. He then turned to Luke and Leia.
"And you two, settle it up." he said as he left to check on Chewbacca.
"Leia…" Luke began. But Leia turned away and followed Han. She then hugged him tightly. Han said something to her which made her smile. Luke let out a smile. Even though she and they hurt him, he knew that Han would make them feel better. He knew that he was pretty worthless in front of a scoundrel like Han. Nobody turned to check on Luke, they went on their own way. Luke turned to where his father was sleeping. He entered the facility. It was empty but for the bacta tank which was seated in the middle. Luke sighed deeply as he sat besides the bacta tank. He placed a hand on the tank.
"I'm with you, father. I'm with you." He said softly as he let his head rest on the tank and drifted to sleep.
"You're a snake, Luke, a snake."
"You traitor."
"What is the meaning of all of this?"
"How dare you meet us in the eye?"
"Look, the Womp rat is here. Oh, wait we should have just called him Orphan rat."
"Ugh, Luke is here. Now he won't let us play peacefully."
"Back for more nonsense, eh, Orphan."
Slurs, abuses, teases and such words took the possession of Luke's mind. He could not think of anything else. All the time he spent on Tatooine, he had to tolerate the slurs of people. Biggs Darklighter and his sister were the only ones who supported him openly. Luke wad grateful to them. Those along with very few people supported the orphan who didn't know anything normal. Luke had always managed to talk with everyone. He used to wave at anyone. Waving was easy, so was holding small talks but when it came to actual conversation, nobody could meet his eyes. He often wondered what his parents were like, but nobody bothered. Without the friends he had on Tatooine, he would not be standing. He suddenly felt all alone, as though somebody grabbed him and threw him aside from everyone. All because he believed that someone as evil as Darth Vader, had good in him. He felt himself be stranded alone in a dark room, devoid anything but just left there floating. The words repeated themselves and began to slice Luke in different places. The more he screamed, the more the cuts went deeper.
"Ah…" Luke yelled as he felt a sharp poke at his side. He immediately turned to find an Ewok standing beside him.
"Oh, it's you." He sighed in relief. He immediately dragged his legs to his chest and hugged himself tightly. All felt so scary. All felt terrifying. All felt too cold. He bent his head and buried it in his laps.
"The celebrations are in order." A female voice came in. Luke lifted his head and found a Twi'ilek standing at the door. She had green skin and was pink lipped. She wore a pilot's gear and was staring at Luke.
"Are you gonna go or just stay here and mourn?" she asked as she entered the facility.
"What's the point anyway? They don't like me now." He replied.
"They do like you but they don't like the person you brought." She replied as she sat beside him.
"He has changed. He's not the same Vader as before." Luke replied as he shook his head.
"Not to them." she replied as she stood up and walked up to the door. "I'm going; they've got some good drinks. Will you join me?" she asked him gently.
"All right, I'm coming." He said softly as he rose to leave. He followed the lady to the celebrations.
