Rating: K and various other ratings.

Summary: Continuation of the Bar Fly saga. Covers seasons 1 and 2.

A/N: This part of the series follows the show's canon. Seasons 1&2. Please note, this also means it will follow their love lives as portrayed in the show. Again, I know how this story ends and I also answer some questions I've had about some story lines. It will be worth it, I promise. Seasons, 3&4, 5&6 and the 7 will all be covered. Rizzles or bust!

Montreal, Qc

Jane was sitting in the Montreal provincial police station, waiting for a Mountie to arrive so she could get all of the paperwork out of the way for the extradition of the prisoner. She did not speak French, she felt out of sorts in this province and cursed when she realized the only person she knew who spoke French was Maura. She was tired from the long drive, frustrated by the lack of English signage and speakers, and still raw from her decision to end things with Maura. She tilted her head onto the back of the chair she was sitting in and promptly fell asleep.

1 Hour later

Jane was aware of somebody shaking her shoulder, and assumed it was Maura. "Stop it Maura, I wanna sleep."

An unfamiliar voice responded, "Det. Rizzoli?" Jane woke with a start and realized she was drooling. Wiping her mouth, she struggled to sit up and grabbed the back of her neck.

Squinting, she looked up at the person speaking to her. "Yeah? That's me. Who are you?"

"I am Sgt. Mario Martin, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. I will be assisting you through our legal process and then traveling with you as you transport the prisoner back to Boston."

Jane stood up and shook his hand. She adjusted her clothing and looked around the provincial police station. "Sorry I fell asleep. Long drive."

"I understand. Look, there is nothing we can do today. He won't get his extradition hearing until tomorrow morning at the earliest. Have you checked in to your hotel yet?"

Jane continued to rub her stiff neck, then swore as she realized she still had to find the place, check-in, get settled and eat.

"No. I should go and try to take care of everything." She looked around the station, trying to get her bearings, before settling back on the sargent. "Uh...can you...could you maybe..."

Seeing her frustration, the Mountie offered to accompany her to her hotel. He also informed her that there was a bar and grill in the hotel, where they could get something to eat. After she checked in, he took her bag and asked for her room number. Jane tried to take her bag back and got into a tussle over the bag, with Jane ultimately losing.

They ate at the bar and the mountie's phone kept ringing and he kept hitting the ignore button. Jane picked up her burger and took a bite, trying to figure out how to ask her question. Her phone buzzed, and hoping it was Maura, she picked it up, but sighed when she saw that it was her mother. She also hit ignore and turned her phone face down.

Mario smiled at her. "Not interested in that call?"

Jane shook her and wiped her mouth. "My mother." She jerked her head in the direction of his phone. "You?"

Mario sighed and rubbed the side of his face. "Terry."

Jane nodded. "Girlfriend?"

Mario smiled. "Boyfriend." He seemed to ponder that for a moment. "Or ex." He shrugged. "Not sure, actually." He took another bite of his burger. "The job, ya know?"

Jane nodded, carefully considering her next words. "So, you're gay. How does that go over in your department?"

"Unlike you Yanks, gay marriage is legal here. No need to be secretive. So, no big deal. I'm bi, by the way. How about you? Any girlfriend or boyfriend to go home to?"

Jane began slowly shaking her head. "Not...exactly. Technically no." She looked at him and shrugged.

Mario studied her before speaking. "You aren't out." It was a statement, not a question and he didn't give her time to answer. "You are afraid of backlash? Or what?"

Jane considered denying his assertion, decided she would never see him again, and that it might feel good to unload everything she had been carrying around, but first she had a question. "How did you know? Do I look gay?"

Mario laughed. "Not sure how you can look gay, but your interest in how my being a member of the LGBTQ community might effect my job was a tip off that you might be a little less than straight." He shrugged.. "Does that bother you?"

Jane chewed her upper lip. "I love her. I want to marry her. I am a practicing Catholic. And I can't keep her safe." She ordered another beer and launched into a frenzied telling of her entire relationship with Maura, Hoyt, her mother and her job.

Mario listened patiently as Jane purged everything she had been holding in, and handed her a napkin as her tears flowed. He covered her hand with his. "Jane, whatever you are is ok. Gay, straight, bi, person specific sexual attraction, whatever. I can't speak to the whole God thing as I am not a believer. I do know that the universe wants you to be happy, and I know there will always be bad guys. You can't live your life afraid of what might happen."

They finished talking and he saw her to her room, bid her goodnight and went on his way. Jane trudged inside and threw herself on the bed. She once again checked her phone, hoping Maura had called. Glad she hadn't. Giving up, she went to bed.

Maura's House

For the 13th time Maura checked her phone and her email, hoping to have a message from Jane. And for the 13th time, she found none. Miserable, she buried her head in her pillow and screamed, before flopping back and going to sleep.

She dreamed about Jane and Hoyt and woke up in a sweat. She grabbed her phone and started to dial Jane, before catching herself. She got up and went to the kitchen to fix a cup of tea. She rubbed her forehead and took out her journal, writing down her feelings.

She eventually made her way to work and was glad when she had three autopsies to complete. She enjoyed the solitude her work provided her and the fact that it required her full attention, meant she didn't have time to think about Jane.

5 Days later

Jane wanted to bang her head against the desk. The prisoner transport had been held up by several legal motions, and while they should have been back in Boston by now, they were stuck for another day. Jane missed her bed and Maura. She took a drink of her now cold coffee and spit it back out, grateful, when Mario put a fresh cup in front of her.

"You're a life saver."

He sat down across from her. "Jane, go back to your room. Take a nap, a hot bath or, better yet, call Maura. We can't get a start until lunch tomorrow."

Jane sighed, got up and decided to go to the hotel. She changed into her sweats, settled on the bed and called Maura. She started to hang-up, but Maura answered. "Maura? It's me, Jane."

"Hi. How are you?"

"Awful. This transport is taking far too long, this bed is lumpy, not a lot of English speakers outside the police station and...I miss you."

Now it was Maura who got comfortable on her bed and her mood immediately softened. "I miss you too Jane. I wish you were here in bed with me, where I could speak English to you, all night."

They both chuckled before getting quiet. Maura was the first to speak. "Jane, we need to figure out how we are going to move forward, working together. You know I like order, structure, rules. I need rules, Jane. If we aren't going to be together like we were before."

"I know baby. I know. Let's discuss a bit later, after you tell me what you are wearing."

Jane had slept better that night than she had since arriving in Montreal. After they had phone sex, they had set ground rules, chatted and made plans for the next week. She was ready to get back to Boston and Maura.

8 Hours Later

Jane and Mario were in the lobby of the station, having delivered the prisoner. Jane was having a patrol officer take him to the airport for his flight back. As they were talking, Jane leaned in and gave him a hug and a kiss on the cheek. Mario returned the kiss and whispered, "Tell her." Jane pulled back and looked up at him before giving a slight nod of her head.

Coming down the hall, catching the entire exchange was Maura. Only, from where she was, it looked like an exchange between two people who had seen each other naked. Her eyes narrowed as she watched Jane and the man. Angry, she turned and went back to her office, where she hid and ducked Jane's calls the rest of the day, It was after five and as she was getting ready to head out when Jane walked into her office.

"Why are you avoiding me?"

Maura jerked her head and dropped the folders as she looked at Jane. "Jane. I am...not avoiding you." She knew the moment the hives started to form, and she knew Jane knew as well. As she reached for her Epi pen, she looked at Jane. "Ok, maybe I have been avoiding you."

Jane tilted her head and sighed. "Your hives are getting hives, Maura." She took the Epi pen from Maura and injected her as Maura had taught her. "Talk to me, Maura."

"I saw you with that man earlier. You hugged him, and looked at him like a...lover. Was that Mario? The bisexual Mountie?"

Jane chuckled. "Yes, Maura, that was the bisexual Mountie, Mario. And I was looking at him like that because talking to him really helped me." She bent and kissed Maura. "Are you ready to go home?"

Maura shook her head. "I want you to come with me." She took Jane's hand. "We can start our rules tomorrow."
