Chapter 2
They arrived in a meadow. Haru's mouth fell open when she saw the variety of flowers. Then she closed her eyes and concentrated. The sounds, the view, the smells… they all moved Haru's heart.
Baron let go of her hand and smiled at her.
"This is the Cat Kingdom's meadow," he looked across the flowers. "When you stand in between the different flowers, they will lead your heart. I don't mean in which direction to go but where you belong and what feelings you have."
Haru looked at the flowers but she knew her feelings so she didn't need it, right?
Haru took a deep breath, smelling a specific rose. An emerald-green rose… so unusual. The scent filled her heart with warmth and before she reacted, she sneezed.
Baron gave out a low chuckle.
But the chuckle became a tiny blush that Haru didn't quite notice.
"You look stunning with a tale and ears." he said and gestured toward her.
Haru felt how her ears had become pointed and furry, her skin furry and a furry tail.
Fur?
"What is happening to me?" she yelled hysterically.
"No reason to panic," Baron said calmly, "the flowers just showed you where you belong."
He sighed.
"What about my mother, Hiromi, and what about Machida?" she panicked.
"No worries. Your presence no longer exists in their minds..."
Haru gasped.
"…for as long as you decide to stay here. If you decide on going back you'll be back where you remembered yourself."
Haru sighed with a small relief.
"Now then, may I show you the castle?" Baron smiled, and Haru caught her heart jump a little.
"I would be glad to." Haru answered and took Baron's offered hand, blushing.

While they walked Haru thought about why the prince and king of the Cat Kingdom wanted to her urgently. Why would she be any special? She couldn't even take care of herself. Haru gave out a little sigh, hoping that she soon would be able to return home.
But why did Baron say to her that the flowers had told her where she belonged? She didn't belong in the Cat Kingdom that was for sure. And before she knew, they had already walked through the black iron gates into the castle.
"It is not time to meet the prince quite yet but may I escort you to your room, Miss Haru?" Baron asked very politely. Haru blushed again and answered with a quite "yes".
A white figure was watching Haru just around the corner with burning hatred in her eyes.

It was dark in Haru's room, only two candles were on a tiny little table. When Baron was about to leave the room they heard thunder and a lightning shot down before her window. Haru gave out a small frighten shriek and tears were dwelling in her eyes. Baron saw her fall together into a ball beside the bed with worrying eyes.
"Would you like me to stay?" Baron asked quietly. When Haru nodded just barely for Baron to see, he silently came over to her and sat down beside her. Haru could feel the warmth form his arms around her neck.
With teary eyes Haru looked at Baron. Baron just looked at her – without saying a word – and Haru was captured by his emerald-green eyes. But close she noticed a bit of light-green in this iris. She turned away more quickly than she had expected herself to do so, and cuddled into Baron's chest.
"May I ask why you are afraid of the lightning?" Baron said hesitantly. He didn't want the crying girl to cry even more because of him.
She nodded. "When I was 8 years old, my father and I used to love thunder. We would sit on the couched and enjoy the warmth together with my mother." She looked out into space. "One day my father didn't come when he had promised and I went outside where there was a thunderstorm."
My mother told me not to but I snuck out. When I got to the end of the road I could see my father running about a half a mile from where I stood." More tears started to slide down her cheeks.
"I ran towards him and called out for him." Baron saw the girl sob.
"When he finally heard me he stopped up and smiled and just when he was about to walk again a terrible sound came and a lightning shot down." The last words were hard to speak, her voice trembling when speaking of the thing that had killed her loving father.
Baron held her even closer, now both of his arms wrapped around her… he didn't want to let her go. Ever. Ever? Baron thought. This was the first time he had been capable of this feeling… he had never dreamt that he would hold such strong emotions for a human girl that wasn't even his to claim. It was Lune's, the prince's, bride-to-be.
She only didn't know that yet.
But Baron knew and it hurt just a little inside him.
