Dear Rachel,

I'm settling back into military life in Georgia, getting along pretty well with my bunkmates. The weather is really nice and warm, not too much snow during the season. It'd be great if you could see it on family weekends. Advanced Training is underway; I'll be receiving specific instruction.

In school, I always seemed to enjoy the hands-on stuff like sports and woodshop class over book learning like history and English. My mom says maybe that's just how I'm wired – I could have gotten that from my dad. Serving here lets me feel closer to him, which is really important to me.

I've been thinking a lot about our sophomore year together, how we really met, not including those times that I threw eggs at you. I can't help but think about all of the wasted time and opportunities that we didn't spend together. If it hadn't of been for Mr. Schue, I may have never joined New Directions. I may have never met you, Kurt, or any of the others. And I may have never decided to learn more about my dad, the side of my dad that I never really got to know.

My mom gave me some of my dad's old journals over the holidays; she found them while cleaning the attic. Mom always says that I have his sense of humor, and that we both love to play the drums. I wish you had been able to meet him, and that I had been able to know him better.

I'm glad that Kurt is out there with you, it'd be great if Puck were to be able to be with me here – I think he would do really well here funnily enough. I really loved seeing that Winter Showcase piece –you know I would have given anything to be in New York to see it.

Until our next letter,

Yours forever, Finn
