10 Months Later
The audience laughed as Izuku facepalmed. Katsuki guessed his drawing was a chihuahua and they ran out of time; it was a hedgehog. The host laughed and got up to take his turn. Izuku fell onto the couch beside Katsuki who wrapped an arm around his neck to pull Izuku into him and was grinning, ear to ear.
They lost the game, Katsuki made a show of dragging his hand across his face and Izuku tiptoed to kiss his cheek. Everyone was losing their minds, Izuku thought he would go deaf.
Finally ushered to the set with a couch and seated beside each other, their knees playfully bumping each other, the host displayed a photograph of Izuku in the studio; his head bent forward and turned so he was peering at the camera with one eye. The tips of his hair were wet, a jewel drop hovered in the air, captured mid fall. Izuku's one visible eye trapped light in them like a molten pool, and a long earring hung like a golden strand of hair and looped to his back.
"I want to get to this photo, because…" He gestured dramatically and Izuku blushed, he ducked his forehead to Katsuki's shoulder before he grinned abashedly as the crowd cheered. "But let's thank Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugou for joining us and playing some Pictionary with us!"
Katsuki gave a wave at a slightly hysterical fan and Izuku kept his face neutral. Otherwise he'd sputter out laughing; Katsuki hated hysterical fans. None of this felt real. He personally didn't feel like he was physically present. Katsuki placed his hand on his knee and Izuku looked up, focused on Katsuki's ruby eyes, and inhaled.
"Before we get into the photo here," The audience half groaned, half cheered, "I wanted to ask you boys how you felt! I mean, all this attention and you were being noticed before you launched Ground Zero." He paused as the crowd gave applause. "You met the owner of All Might, the Toshinori Yagi, and I assume he was your hero?"
"Yea, Timmy," Katsuki shifted in his chair and Izuku let him take the lead. "I mean, Izuku and I, we grew up together, y'know. We saw all these cool action photos once and just fell in love with photography and modellin' then. But Mr Yagi, man," Katsuki ran a hand through his hair and the crowd cheered at Mr Yagi's name. "When we discovered his work, we were teenagers and I was just really good at the modellin' part, but cameras never liked me handlin' them."
"So, that's where Izuku came in?" Timmy was looking only at Katsuki like they weren't on stage performing a conversation.
"Well, Zu, he was good at the camera stuff, just naturally gifted." Katsuki cast him a loving glance, his cheeks pinkening a little before he looked at Timmy again. "And we weren't great friends growing up, but we found each other again. You shoulda seen this guy, he got me to model in a way nobody ever had."
"What?" Izuku blurted out. "I thought that was all you!"
"Um, no. I mean yea, I can move, but you had me so comfortable I was free to just be me." Katsuki looked at Izuku and his eyes softened, pupils going wide even in the harsh light of the stage.
"Oh." Izuku could only manage the one word. The audience was silent. Timmy allowed two, three seconds before he gave a mushy awwww . The audience followed.
"So, how did we go from Izuku being only good at handling a camera and you only modelling, to this photo?" Timmy asked, suddenly again very interested. Izuku was peering innocently, or seductively, or like he held a secret and he was just about to tell you. It was one of the best photos of Izuku, and the best photo Katsuki had ever taken. Izuku was so proud of him.
"We practised. We've been through a lot. I was stabbed," The audience muttered and Katsuki gave them a reassuring smile, "Izuku left his last studio, I parted ways with my long-time agent, I was feeling lost in my career. But with Izuku, I didn't even know it, but I needed him."
"I think we can all agree, the photo leak last year was a horrible thing to happen. How do you feel about having so much of your current fame coming off the back end of that?" Timmy shifted, and Katsuki and Izuku suddenly felt the tone of the interview go serious. Not because of Timmy, but the violation they experienced from the leak, they knew it was also the experience of many of their fans.
"Revenge photos, leaking of photos that are personal like that, no one wants to go through that." Izuku said quietly. "But things could have been worse. People could have blacklisted us, deem us unfit to work with. We were lucky even, that Mr Yagi noticed us."
"Any clue who did it?" Timmy whispered loudly while hiding his mouth from the crowd.
"Nope. No clue." Izuku said and smiled. "I just learned to be careful about leaving my photos out now. Lesson to the kids, don't leave your computer or phone unlocked in public where you have your super spicy photos with your boyfriend saved."
The audience laughed, the tone significantly lighter. There was a lull and Timmy and Katsuki spoke at the same time.
"What's next for you guys-"
"I have a question."
The audience chuckled, Katsuki and Timmy pointed at each other and laughed.
"Sure thing, Katsuki. What's your question?" Timmy gestured like he was stepping aside graciously (even though he was sitting) to let Katsuki through like a king. Katsuki shifted on the couch and faced Izuku, their knees pressed together. He took Izuku's hand and his red eyes locked onto Izuku.
"Zu. Midoriya." Katsuki cleared his throat. Izuku blinked. "Nerd, will you marry me?"
"No, what?" Izuku shook his head. The audience was silent. Izuku could feel each of his ribs, could count them because every time his heart hammered there, he could feel them. He could hear his blood pounding in his ears. Did Katsuki just ask him to marry him?
Katsuki leaned into his ear, Izuku could feel his breath tickling him. He was talking. Izuku tried to listen. "Say you'll marry me, dummy." Katsuki said in a very audible whisper (the microphone picked it up like he hadn't whispered at all); the audience chuckled.
Izuku pulled back and met Katsuki's red eyes. Katsuki's face was blurry. "Okay?" The word was a hiccup.
Katsuki's eyes widened. "That a yes?"
"Yes?" Izuku said slowly. He blinked the tears out of his eyes and Katsuki's face came back into focus. "Yes!"
Katsuki kissed him and when someone from the audience yelled "Get a room!"Izuku pushed Katsuki off of him. Katsuki grinned at Timmy, Timmy who was cheering with a fist in the air.
"Man," Katsuki laughed, "I've been meaning to ask him for months, but this is the first time we've sat together long enough since Ground Zero launched. This idiot," Katsuki kissed his temple, Izuku was wiping at his cheeks furiously and failing to stem the flood down his cheeks, "He's such a hard worker and it was never the right time. So thank you, Timmy."
"You're welcome!" Timmy clapped.
"I'm sorry!" Izuku said wetly, "We ruined your interview."
"Na, kid. If anything, everyone's gonna love this." Timmy swatted playfully. "Ladies and gents, people, Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugou. Photographer and model partners at Ground Zero, new international sensation! Newly engaged! You'll be hearing their names more often I'm sure!"
Katsuki grinned and Izuku was blinded by his happiness, so he closed his eyes. Katsuki was kissing him, and the blood rushing in his ears to the wild beat of his heart was mingling with the audience's roaring.
"I love you." Izuku murmured against Katsuki's cheek.
"Fuck yea, you do." Katsuki's grin was endless.
The studio lights dimmed.
