Chapter 25

The Ordon Sisters followed Midna to a section of Lower Castle Town that they have not been to. The woman had led them through a small tunnel. The end of the tunnel had a contraption similar to the elevator Telma had when they first arrived, but on a much smaller scale. According to Midna, there were several of these secret elevators hidden throughout Castle Town. The only people who knew were those who lived in Lower Castle Town.

They were brought up inside an abandoned building. Midna gestured for the young women to be quiet and to wait so that she could scope around outside to make sure no one unpleasant would see them. Minutes later she returned to give the all-clear. They entered the deserted alley outside.

Outside of the alley into the main streets were a series of buildings with architecture different from the other buildings in Castle Town. Buildings that were well kept with no sign of imperfection, and very bright colors of all kinds. The streets were also cleaned, with not a speck of filth in sight. A woman strolled down the street, wearing the finest dress made with pretty silk, priceless jewelry with different gems, satin gloves with lovely embroidery, and her hair styled with an elegant bun, giving an acknowledging nod to them as they walk passed her.

"This place looks so…nice," Zelda uttered in complete amazement as they all walked down the road.

"Yeah, no kidding," Ilia said in disbelief. "We're still in Castle Town, right?"

"Hard to believe, I know." Midna retorted. "The Nobles are typically Ganondorf's biggest supporters. They line his pockets and vice versa. Naturally, this part of the city is cleanest."

"So only this part of this city gets maintained while the rest of it struggles?" Zelda stated not wanting to believe such a thing.

Midna nods. "To Ganondorf, the Nobles' support is all that matters to him. They could care less what Ganondorf does to Hyrule so long as their lifestyle doesn't change."

"Surely they can't all be like that, right?" Zelda argued.

"Yeah, Shad fights against Ganondorf." Ilia reminded

"I'm sure not all of them agree on what's going on. And as you said Ilia, Shad is proof of that. Sadly there's only so much a noble can do without going above the law. Ganodnorf's law that is. Shad has to be discreet about his involvement with The Resistance. The ones that do go above… never end well. I can guess Shad told you what happened to his parents?"

"Only that they died in a carriage accident," Ilia responded. "Shad believes it wasn't."

"The Sokols tried to help stand against Ganondorf as subtly as possible. Giving tips, and donating a portion of their wealth. Doing everything they could to not get caught. They covered their tracks well enough that Ganondorf couldn't prove it, but it didn't stop that 'tragic carriage accident' from happening. If Ganondorf believes your a threat, he'll eliminate you in whatever way possible. Those that were openly against Ganondorf...Does the Oceana family ring any bells to you?"

"I don't think so…"

Midna glances around the street to make sure no one was around to listen. "They were one such noble family that was opened...Linebeck was part of that family."

"What happened?" Zelda pressed, interested to hear.

"Boss was around your age when Ganondorf came into power. The Oceanas, his parents, were popular nobles, much like the Sokols, that openly criticized Ganondorf's harsh methods in the first year of his reign. Unlike the Sokols, they didn't cover their tracks. Which made it easy for Ganondorf to come up with evidence to warrant their arrest, painting them as traitors. He forced them to falsely confess to the public of plotting a conspiracy when he threatened to kill Linebeck, disgracing their name before he executed them. Linebeck was spared but Ganondorf stripped him of his family wealth, leaving him penniless."

"Goddesses…" Ilia muttered in horror. "How did Linebeck get through that?"

"The smear campaign was so good that people won't say the name Oceana. And thanks to that no one wanted to do business with Linebeck so he tried to take up bounty hunting. Believe it or not, his first target was Impa. Somehow he managed to capture her."

"Truly?" Zelda was surprised by that statement. It was hard to imagine that a skilled warrior like Impa was able to be caught by a former noble.

"Part of me thinks that Impa let herself get captured by him because well…he needed help." Midna hypothesized. "Somehow, she convinced him that he could fight Ganondorf in other ways. He took those words to heart. Shortly after he met Jolene and they formed their network in this city. They helped so many people whose lives have been affected negatively by Ganondorf's reign. Myself, Groose, Cawlin, Strich, Agitha, Fledge, Orielle, and everyone in Lower Castle Town."

"How did you end up with them?" Ilia was curious to hear Midna's tale.

"My mother was one of the Gerudo warriors that accompanied Ganondorf when he first came here. She had a…affair with a Sheikah warrior during that time up until Ganondorf took the throne. When the purging of Sheikah started, my father was gone. My mother never found out what happened to him. When Ganondorf found out about my parentage, he questioned my mother's loyalty. When shit inevitably hit the fan, we tried to run but she was killed. I was found by Groose who took me to Linebeck. At first, Boss wasn't keen on letting a Gerudo hide with him, mostly because he was afraid of Ganondorf's forces finding them, but Jolene & Groose reminded him that they were all high targets and that me being there wouldn't make a difference. This is before I told her about my Sheikah heritage. Meeting me had gotten him to open his eyes to see that not all Gerudo were all blind followers."

"Linebeck did mention the stigma with the Gerudo…" Zelda brought up.

"Due to their heavy presence enforcing Ganondorf's reign, many in the city are afraid to help them in the event a Gerudo tries to flee. Making it easy for Ganondorf's forces to find and…silence them."

"But wouldn't those Gerudo question why their friends are suddenly not around?" Ilia question.

"Ganondorf is good with coverups. He would keep the knowledge of deserters out of the public, especially if they're Gerudo. He does this by not sending Gerudo after an AWOL Gerudo. When he does catch them he kills them and paints them as tragedies by blaming it on unruly criminals, The Resistance included, furthering his agenda. He loves to parade that around." Midna paused, expression deep in thought. "Believe me, the Gerudo are just as much victims to his reign as you guys and everyone else in Hyrule. Ganondorf's cruelty has no limits to who they affect, his own kind included. The problem is, the Gerudo that remains with him either can't see it, or they don't want to see it. When they do, its usually to late...It would take something big for them to open their eyes."

Not many words were exchanged between the three young women as they continued their trek through the district. They saw more men & women of all ages in various nice clothes. Some of them showed interested glances at the trio but did not seem suspicious so they went back on their merry way.

"I don't think they suspect us so far," Zelda whispered.

"Well you look the part, but you also got to act like it." Midna told her.

"How?"

"Act properly. Look professional. Don't use swear words. And be polite, even if some of them are rich assholes. And we're about to put that to the test."

They arrived at what appeared to be the center of the district. They approached a lavish, beautifully structured building, with beautifully designed windows. A sign that reads 'Town Palace' hung above the door of the building the three women walk into. Inside were many of Hyrule's upper class. The women wore dresses beautifully designed and had jewels donned on them in various ways, some with different extravagant hairstyles. The men wore fancy suits, satin shirts, and well-kept shoes. Some had well-groomed facial hair. Most of the groups were on the young side, but there were a few that were older. There were also people in plain clothing, indicating that they worked at the establishment.

The inside of the building was painted with the color gold and built with rich decor. There was a bar with many types of drinks for the people to linger in. There was more open space for the people to walk about and mingle. A small stage for a band playing classical music. There were tables where the nobles were playing different games like chess, and cards to name a few.

"This place reminds me of Telma's bar," Ilia gaped around.

"That's because this place is a bar, except this is more catered to the nobility," Midna told her.

"Remind me what our cover story is?" Zelda stressed with her eyes on the many people inside, some of whom notice them.

"You & Ilia are two highborn sisters from the west visiting Castle Town on vacation. I am your bodyguard and your very rich parents are paying handsomely to keep you safe at all costs. So don't hesitate to call me for help," Midna explained.

"What are we doing, exactly?" Ilia questioned.

"This place as you can see is a good hub spot. Perfect for gossip mongers. People with wealth like to talk big. And sometimes it can lead to great intel."

"That's it?" Ilia blurts out. "We're just eavesdropping on conversations?"

"Pretty much," Midna said with simple directness. "You never know what you may hear, but there is only one way to find out. So…go out there and mingle."

Zelda & Ilia looked into the crowd of people, then at each other. Uncertain expressions were written on both of their faces. This group of people was different from their usual crowd. While their father was the mayor, making him technically the richest person in Ordon, it certainly wasn't on the same level as this.

"What do we do?" Ilia whispered.

"Stick with me, and…let me do the talking," Zelda gently commanded her sister.

Ilia nods in agreement.

They move deeper into the establishment. Most of the nobles were enveloped in conversations of their own. Groups of men were talking about business, or what woman they were trying to woo into marrying them. Groups of women gossip about the people they know, where they plan to travel, and who they wish to marry. Nothing of interest so far. Some of them notice the pair of sisters. A few of them begin whispering.

"Who are they? I have never seen them before."

"Neither have I. They're probably tourists."

"They're certainly beauties. I wonder if they're searching for husbands…"

"I saw another woman with them. Doesn't look noble like them."

"Probably their bodyguard. Can't blame them given how dangerous the outside of the city is. What with monsters, and bandits."

"You think King Ganondorf would put in the money we often give him to better secure the land."

"He is dealing with The Resistance rebels after all. From what I heard he's obsessed with them."

Others were bold enough to approach the pair. One such is a young, handsome man. "Hello, ladies. Are you from out of the city by any chance?"

"We…We are," Zelda answered calmly. "Do you need something from us?"

"Oh, I merely wanted to say that you ladies are very beautiful. Could I get you anything?"

"That won't be necessary," Zelda told him with assurance. "Thank you, though."

The man seemed disappointed by her answer but seemed to accept it. "Well if you change your mind, I'll be more than happy to help you out."

"If all the nobles are as eager to chat with us as that guy, maybe this won't be difficult," Ilia suggested with hope.

"I hope so, otherwise this is going to be boring…" Zelda noted. "We should split up, cover more ground that way.

The two sisters went in different directions in the establishment. Zelda tried to listen in to anybody seemingly in a deep conversation of sorts. All of which resulted in them either talking about mundane gossip, or she had to back away when they suspected her eavesdropping. Now some nobles did approach her but did not seem eager to share affairs going on in the city. Either they were a noblewoman asking questions about her sense of style, or a nobleman asking about her marital status or her family name. A hastily put-together but convincing lie or two and they seem to lose interest almost immediately.

After a half-hour of walking around later, Zelda grew tired. She found a table to sit down a bit away from the sea of nobles. The fancy shoes Jolene had given her as part of her outfit had made her feet sore. And the dress was making her feel hot. A rest was certainly needed. If this is the standard for Hylian Nobility, women specifically, how do they do it every day then? Zelda couldn't imagine doing this. That was not the only thing bothering her.

Walking around this place, Zelda tried to listen for nobles expressing their opinion on Ganondorf, or what's going on in Hyrule. The best she could get was a comment or so, before quickly getting brushed off. None of them talked about what happened to Lake Hylia, why Lake Hylia happened, or talked about the genocide committed against the Sheikah, the Goron isolation, or even the current state of Castle Town. These people were more focused on their wealth, or other affairs that were on a smaller scale compared to the other topics.

How can these nobles act like nothing's wrong? The rest of the city, the whole country for that matter, is suffering, like the mother & her children in the alleyway yet they can go about their lives without worry? How can these people call themselves 'nobles' if they're willing to turn a blind eye for the sake of their comfort? Is Ganondorf lining their pockets that well? Or is it out of fear like everyone else as Midna suggested?

If Zelda had the wealth these nobles had, she sure can put that money to better use like improving the city. Better yet, if she was Queen, the city, and Hyrule wouldn't be in such an unfortunate state. Wouldn't that be nice? Be able to have that kind of power to make change for the better good. Sadly, such an idea was far from reality.

Minutes shortly after finding the table, Ilia walked up to her. "Any luck, sis?"

"None so far. What about you?"

Ilia's face twisted with frustration. "So far, I've only heard about boring business dealings and whatnot. Hearing the girls gossiping about some dumb stuff. Guys asking if I am married yet. Some of them were around dad's age, and I honestly couldn't tell if they wanted me to marry their son or themselves…To add all that, these shoes are killing my feet, and it feels stuffy in here. I thought this would be easy, but so far I haven't gotten anything good."

Zelda gave a reassuring smile. "I'm certain we'll find something useful."

"I hope so…I want to do this right."

"I'm sure Linebeck won't get upset if we don't find anything."

"It's not him I'm worried about.." Ilia muttered under her breath.

"What was that?".Zelda leaned close.

"Nothing…" Ilia responded hastily.

Zelda gently holds Ilia's hand. "Maybe you need some fresh air to clear your head."

"You'll be okay in here?"

"Midna is here if something happens. I think I'll be fine."

"Alright. Thanks."

Ilia made her way to the exit of the building, letting Midna know where she was going. Outside of the building she made her way to a nearby bench. A tried breath escaped through her mouth, resting her hand on her head. This isn't exactly how this is turning out well. All she manages to get so far is a headache. How can she help her sister if she can't do something such as this?

All of her life, Zelda had always been the one to get her out of trouble. Never did Ilia have the chance to help her.

As the time passed since arriving at The Resistance Camp Ilia had been wanting help out in whatever way she could. Ilia wanted to be more than stuck to the side. She wants to make Zelda proud. That's all she ever wants. Sneaking her way on the Lake Hylia mission was supposed to be her ticket to show her success. That ended up being futile when she saw how dangerous this line of work is. The scar that remained on her cheek from the arrow grazing her is proof that Zelda was justified in her fears, and that Ilia could not deal with that type of burden.

Since that day Ilia had felt…useless. Now she had tried to help out Zelda and the rebels in various other ways and yet it did not feel like she was giving enough. If anything, Ilia was feeling less helpful and more like dead weight. Ilia the Useless Rebel, almost got filled in her first battle. A battle she wasn't supposed to be a part of, to begin with, but she had to be a stubborn brat. Who can't even find proper intel among Hyrule's elite? Who's nothing but a liability to not only the Resistance movement but to her sister. What kind of use of that to anyone?

"Pardon me?"

Standing to the side was a very old woman wrapped in red garbs that covered her body, including a hood over her head. Ilia couldn't tell if this woman was of nobility or not. Were none-nobles even allowed over here? The old red woman had a cane in her hand to keep her aging body stable. Dangling from her neck was a pendant with the symbol of the Goddess Din.

"Do you mind if I sit down next to you? I need to rest these old bones." The old woman in red pointed her boney hand toward the bench.

There was something…unusual about this old woman Ilia did pick up on. The teen was on her guard wondering if she was onto her. However, when she looked into the woman's kind eyes Ilia felt relief. A voice within told her that this woman meant no harm. A feeling she could not explain.

Without hesitation Ilia scooted to the side, giving the woman room to sit.

"Thank you!" The old woman beamed happily when she sat down. "Your kindness is appreciated, my dear."

"It's no problem. I don't mind," Ilia looked over the pendant on the woman's neck. "I like your pendant."

"Why thanks!" The old woman lifted her pendant, showing Din's symbol engraved there for Ilia to see. "I have always admired the Golden Three, but between you and me, Din is my favorite."

"How so?"

The Old Woman gave a giddy grin. "You can say I have…a lot in common with her." She lowers her pendant. "Thank you again for sharing the bench with me. Far too often whenever I need to sit on an already occupied bench, people usually turn me away. It has been so long since someone had said yes."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

The old woman waved her hand. "I'm used to it at this point. Though it had not always been this way. People were not always this guarded. These past many years have changed them. Yet, you did not seem to mind. Why is that?"

"My parents always taught me to help out others if they need it."

"Sounds like your parents raised you well," The woman's smile grew to a frown. "You seemed troubled yourself."

"What makes you say that?"

"I've been around for a…long time. Long enough for me to pick up these types of things."

"I don't want to bore you."

"Nonsense! You helped me by letting me sit so I think it's fair for me to return the favor. Why not indulge this old woman?"

Ilia let out a tired breath, carefully formulating the words to say to not expose herself. Minutes later, she formulated the right words to say.

"I have an older sister. We've been through some…changes these past few months. She's been dealing with a lot of things on her own and I want to help her."

"I understand the feeling quite well," The Old Woman shared.

"You have a sister?"

"Two sisters. Love them with all my heart. I would do anything for them."

"The thing is…I'm not sure if I can. The things my sister is going through are rough. I…tried one instance to help against her wishes and I almost got…" Ilia rubs her cheek where her scar would be "...Hurt badly as a result. Since then I wonder if anything I'm doing is useful to her, or the people around us. I feel like I'm nothing but dead weight. What kind of use is that to anyone?"

"I'm certain your sister doesn't view you that way. Sounds to me that you both care for each other very much. I'm positive she appreciates whatever you do to help her."

"I know that…" Ilia paused for several seconds. "...but I wish I could do more. I wish that someone…can show me my place in all of this."

The Old Woman remained quiet. Then her frown turned into a smile.

"Well…I'm not sure if I will be able to help you in any way. Destiny is a very tricky thing to get to sometimes. You could seek advice on how to get there. Others may even try to tell how to approach it. In the end, only one person can help you."

"Who might that be?" Ilia looked at the woman.

"You…Only you can travel your path of destiny. You can transverse it however you desire. So as long as you never give up. Your path may appear to have nothing, but that doesn't mean the journey is over. You need to keep on walking. Keep at it and I know you can find your destiny."

Ilia moved her gaze away from the woman, gluing them towards the ground. The Old Woman's words go over through her head, wondering what to make of them. The advice did seem genuine. Maybe she's right. New voices then pulled Ilia out of her thoughts. A pair of nobles, a man & woman, probably a couple, walking not far from her. They did not pay any mind to her presence.

"You heard about Ingo?" The man said.

"Ingo Gorman. The ranch owner?" the woman responded with disgust.

That name…That was the man who tried to grope Zelda and punched Link. Now that certainly got her interest.

"Yes, that one. My servants went into the city yesterday for some errands when they saw him getting tossed out of a bar, 'Telma's' I think it was, by a woman."

"Knowing him I can only guess he was trying 'woo' her, or maybe a friend of hers. You know, I ran into him earlier this week. Right in there." The woman pointed to 'Town Palace'. "He was bragging about getting a new shipment of horses, along with other farm animals. Said to be 'high-quality' ones from the north. No doubt he was trying to impress me. Like anything that nasty man does will so such a thing."

"Now that I can agree with. Just because he breeds horses for the Royal Guard to use doesn't mean he's the same class as us. I much prefer the previous owner of that ranch, Talon. A shame he got arrested a few years back."

"That reminds me, did they ever find out what happened to his daughter?"

"As far as I know, she's still missing. I do hope she's okay."

Not much could be heard from the couple when they walked out of Ilia's hearing range. The information stuck to her like a horseshoe on a horse's hoof. Not sure what a shipment of animals would bring but it might be worth something to share with Linebeck. If anything, they could cook up a little revenge for what Ingo did to Zelda & Link. Though there was another detail she could not ignore.

"Previous ranch owner…A missing daughter. Close to Castle Town. The name was Talon which sounds similar too…Holy shit."

Yep, she is definitely telling Linebeck this information. And Ilia herself was the one to get it! Maybe there is hope for her after all.

"You okay, dear?" The Old Woman spoke to her.

"I have to get going now. Thank you for your advice." Ilia stood up from the bench.

The Old woman smiled. "Thank you for giving this old woman your kindness. Do not sell yourself short, Ilia. You'll see in time that you have your own role to play in all of this."

"I hope you're right. Thanks again." Ilia walked several feet away until it quickly occurred that the old woman said her name. Something she did not share. "Hold on…How did you know my name-"

When the teen turned back, the old woman was no longer on the bench. Ilia darted her eyes in every direction she could see but there were no traces of the old woman. How did she leave that fast? Was she even real? Wherever she was, she was gone now.

Another new sound caught Ilia's ears. Four soldiers made their way towards 'Town Palace escorting a familiar man with pale skin, dressed in fine purple clothes. Ilia knew who he was, and it made her rush back inside when the man entered.

Minutes Earlier…

Zelda decided to walk around again, hoping to get better results though it seemed to be the same as before. She has to keep trying. At this rate, she could get at least one thing to share with Linebeck. All of her efforts were put to a stop when something caught her eye.

Plastered on the walls were several portraits. Each of which had different people. The portraits were all oil paintings placed in golden giltwood frames with leaf-like designs. On the end of the line of portraits was a dark-skinned man with flaming orange hair, dressed in heavy armor, resting his palms on the end of a black sword's handle, with the blade pointing to the floor. The grin he made was filled with pride. Upon closer inspection, Zelda could see the engraving on the bottom.

King Ganondorf Dragmire

"So this is what he looks like…"

He was…not as scary as she imagined him to be. Doesn't take away the horrible deeds he committed. He looked like the man she Links fought in her vision back in Ordon right before the attack. A duel that seemed inevitable.

Another portrait caught her interest. The one right before Ganondorf's. This one had two individuals. One was a handsome appearing man with a well-groomed bushy beard, platinum blonde hair, dressed in fine red robes, and a large gold crown. Next to him is a beautiful woman, with long flowing, blonde hair, dressed in a lovely pink down, wearing a crown, smaller than the man's, a large jewel on the center of her crown. The woman had her hands on her grasping belly, making it clear that she was pregnant.

Unlike the smile in Ganondorf's portrait, the smiles these two individuals gave were kind, warm, and benevolent. Smiles that were all too familiar to Zelda. Smiles that she had seen in her dreams many times. Coming from the same people.

Zelda's breathing increased, not believing what she was seeing. These two people were the same ones that had plagued her dreams these past several months. Remember the display of Ganondorf's name under his portrait, Zelda moves her gaze down to the bottom of this one.

King Daphnes Nohansen Harkinian & Queen Lydia Bosphoramus Harkinian

The old king & queen. The ones who ruled this kingdom up until Ganondorf killed them. They were the ones who have been appearing in her dreams. But why? What would they have anything to do with a simple girl like her? Did they…Did they know who her birth family is?

Many questions flood through her head. So much so that she tuned out the world. Zelda was so out of touch with what was going on around her that she did not hear the people briefly stop whatever they were doing to see a new visitor enter inside and then go back to what they were doing. And she did not hear the visitor taking notice of her, checking her body in the process, licking his lips, and decided to approach her.

"Hello there, beautiful."

A familiar, chilling voice pulled Zelda back into reality. When she turned to face the person that spoke to her she sure was in a nightmare. The man that chose to speak to her is none other than the former warden of the Lake Hylia Prison Camp.

Vaati's lips grew into a pleasant smile. "I am Lord Vaati. Pivotal member of King Ganondorf's council." Vaati took Zelda's hand, giving a kiss on her knuckles. Chills ran up her spine as his lips made contact with her hand. "May I be so kind enough to know your name, miss?"

"T-Tetra…" Zelda answered as calmly as possible.

"Pretty name for a pretty young lady such as yourself." Vaati still had his grip on her hand. Upon examining her face, he grew a curious expression. "Have we…met somewhere?"

"No. Probably mistook me for someone else…" Zelda hoped that would be enough for Vaati not to connect the dots that she was at Lake Hylia and the one who shot the arrow into his leg.

"I suppose you're right. I have been with a lot of blondes in my time. Though, I am sure that I haven't seen you here before. Are you a tourist?"

"I am."

"How are you liking this city, then?" Vaati acted interested, though Zelda could see in his eyes what he was interested in.

"It's…alright. Different from home."

"Where are you from?"

"Out west…My town is not well known so you probably never heard of it…." Zelda tried to show she did not want to continue this conversation.

Vaati either didn't take the hint, or pretty much ignored it. "There's no need to be shy. It's not often I talk with tourists, much less one as gorgeous as you," Vaat purred at her.

The way he spoke Zelda was feeling more uncomfortable than she already is. She knew Vaati was a creepy person based on what Fado told her, yet she feels like his description did not paint the full picture. Goddesses, she hoped Ilia or Midna know what was going on and planned to get her out of this.

"Perhaps…I could give you a tour of our fine city, to ease your shyness." Vaati suggested, making Zelda wince. "I know how to show a woman a good time."

"I…I appreciate the offer, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to decline your generous offer, Lord Vaati."

"Please, I insist." Vaati's grip on her hand grew tighter. He intends to keep her close. "Many women are lucky to be in my presence. I promise what goes on can stay between us."

Zelda tried to think of other excuses, trying not to panic. Dindammit, why did he have to single her out? With the lustful look in his eyes, the way he would look at her chest, and lick his lips, it wasn't hard to figure out what Vaati's intentions for her were. This wasn't like Ingo who didn't have anyone to come to his defense and they could punch him. Vaati is one of Ganondorf's top people. Vaati could lock her up somewhere if he so much as wants to. No one would dare speak against him Zelda was certain. Maybe that's what he's hoping. Unless Zelda or Ilia & Midna think of a way to get her out of this, Vaati intends to leave with her one way or another.

Silently, she prayed to the Goddesses for a solution, but time was running out and Zelda could see through Vaati's attempt at a gentleman's smile, she could see the growing impatience in his eyes. All seemed to be hopeless. Zelda let out one more quiet prayer. Nothing happened, for the moment.

Until…

"Ah, there you are!"

A young woman, presumingly Zelda's age, maybe a bit older strolled over to them. The woman had blonde hair tied up in a bun with a headband with two blue diamonds sticking out like antlers. She had the same type of diamonds as earrings. Her dress is pink, with a white high collar, white frills on the edge of her pink sleeves, and a red broach on her chest. In her hand is a fan.

"Miss Waters," Vaati greeted in his best attempt to be polite. "To what do I owe you?"

"I was looking for my friend, and it seems that you found her for me!" The woman moved in Zelda's direction. "You mustn't wander off like that. I know you want to explore but you're new to the area still. I was worried sick."

Never in her life had Zelda met this woman, yet she was acting like they'd been friends for years. Zelda stood baffled, unsure of what to do. Then she saw the woman subtly nod her head. The woman was urging Zelda to play along. Now Zelda could see what she was doing.

"I…I couldn't help myself! You know how I am. I'm sorry for worrying you like that," Zelda responded.

"Thank you, Lord Vaati for keeping her company!" The woman said to the man.

"Y-yes, of course…" Zelda could tell that Vaat sounded disappointed. "I'm glad I was able to help. Is there anything else I could do, Miss Waters?"

"No need. She's mine to handle. Go on now," Miss Waters responded, adamant about her decision.

Vaati walked away from the women. Not once giving a second glance to Zelda. Interest in her instantly vanished from him. Zelda kept her guard up, full attention on the woman Vaati called Miss Waters. What did she want? Did she know that she was not noble? What motive did she have for helping her?

Miss Waters moves her gaze to Zelda. "He's gone now. You can breathe easily." She said to Zelda gently.

It was relieving for Zelda to finally take a relaxed breath. Honestly, she almost was on the brink of tears.

"You okay, now?" She heard Miss Waters speak.

"Why did you do that?" Zelda questioned her.

"I know a lot of nobles that come here, so I knew you were a tourist. Vaati may be part of Ganondorf's council, but I could see how uncomfortable he was making you. I've heard rumors of his…exploits with women." Miss Waters said with a sneer. "Between you and me, he's nothing but a pig."

"Don't I know it..."

"Thank you for getting him off my back," Zelda said with gratitude.

"Think nothing of it. My father works closely with King Ganondorf. He ships supplies in and out of the castle. A personal delivery service you may call it. Vaati wouldn't dare to try anything with me." The woman extended her hand out. "Where are my manners? Mila Waters. May I know your name?"

"Tetra…" Zelda accepted Mila's hand, shaking it.

"Nice to meet you, Miss Tetra. I can only hope your conversation with Vaati did not damper your day."

"It…It didn't."

Mila's eye moves to the portraits on the wall. "I noticed that you had an interest in these paintings."

"Yes…I was wondering why this place has portraits here. I can see they're the royals of Hyrule. I do wonder why that small amount."

"The kingdom has had many royals, but it wasn't until over a hundred years ago that this place started placing their portraits of the Royal leaders of Hyrule."

"I presumed it was him."

Zelda pointed over to the very first portrait in the line. A man with a brown beard appeared to be fairly young. Under the portrait that had the plague that read 'King Rune Harkinian'.

"That would be his younger brother."

Mila directed Zelda to the very next portrait. The name 'King Rhoam' was read under another man with a larger bushy beard that had the same color as Daphnes. It seemed that beards were a common trait among the males of the Royal Family.

"King Rhoam had a portrait of his older brother, King Rune made after his death. Rune's story is a sad one." Mila explained.

"Why is that?" Zelda questions curiously.

"King Rune lost his wife in childbirth. The baby died as well. Sometime after, Rune died suddenly. Heartbreak is the biggest suspect." Mila shared solemnly. "King Rhoam took over after his brother's death. Made this portrait to honor him. And now over a hundred years later, that tradition continues, even with a different leader."

An idea came into Zelda's mind. It sounds risky but Zelda is curious.

"You said that your father works for King Ganondorf? That means you have met him, I presume. What do you think of him?"

Mila was silent briefly. "He's…alright. That's all I could say."

Zelda could hear the hesitation in her voice. She didn't have the chance to further ask when she saw Ilia dash over to her, Midna trailing behind.

"You alright, sis?" Ilia urgently asked. Then she notices Mila's presence. "Oh, hello…"

"Do you know each other?" Mila question.

"This is Linkle, my little sister. And that's our bodyguard my parents hired." Zelda answered. "Guys, this is Mila."

"You look unwell, Miss Tetra," Midna spoke up. "Would you like to return to yours & Miss Linkle's room back at the Inn?"

"That would be nice. I wish to leave now." Zelda turns to Mila. "It was nice to meet you. Thank you."

"I wish you well. Hopefully, we can meet again under better circumstances," Mila said back with pleasantries.

Ilia helps guide Zelda out of 'Town Palace' trailing behind Midna. They kept on walking until they were a good distance away from the establishment. They kept on walking until they were certain they were secluded, away from prying eyes & ears.

"You okay? We saw Vaati walk from the direction you were in." Ilia said to her sister after a while.

"Did he do anything to you?" Midna prodded.

"N-No he didn't. The only thing he did was kiss my hand, without even asking me." Zelda moves her hand through her hair. 'Goddesses…I felt so terrified. He wanted me to be alone with him…That Mila woman is the reason he left me alone. Farore, bless that woman."

"Dang, I would like to give her a hug for that," Ilia said with a note of relief. "I'm sorry for leaving you alone to deal with that."

"It's okay. He's gone now at least."

"Yeah, I think we should cut this trip short. Linebeck will understand," Midna said to the pair.

Frankly, the sisters were more than happy to agree.

When she returned to Groose's residence, after Midna reverted all three of them to their normal selves, Zelda returned to her room to put back on her civilian clothing. The Triforce necklace was the last thing she placed on as usual. After leaving the Resistance camp, Zelda had tucked her necklace under her shirt, under Impa's suggestion. Before leaving, Impa had tried to convince Zelda to leave the necklace behind. That failed so Impa then suggested to her to keep the necklace hidden whenever she was outside of Resistance sanctuaries. Zelda has no clue why Impa was overbearing over the necklace. Then again, Zelda hasn't seen anyone else with a necklace like hers so her best guess it was a way of concealing her identity.

Back in the comfort of her civilian clothes, Zelda sat on the edge of her bed. Midna had left to give her report to Linebeck & Jolene. Ilia was somewhere in the house, mingling with Strich & Agitha probably, leaving the room to Zelda to herself. Perfect time to reflect on today's events in her mind. Goddesses, that was such a close call with Vaati. Hearing him speak to her the way he did still left her with chills. Had it not been for the kindness of that Mila woman, who knows what would've happened? While the outcome ended up peaceful, Zelda's mind can't help but be plagued with what-ifs.

Eventually, she heard new voices echoing throughout the house. Groose's group had returned from their excursion in the city. Minutes later, someone knocked on her door asking if they could come in. As she predicted, it was none other than Link.

"Hey."

"Hey, Link. How was the city?"

Link closed the door behind him. "Alright, I think. I learned about scarabs, and almost got punched by a drunk. On the plus side, I did get some things for some of the kids. And found some abandoned buildings for Malo."

"I'm sure the kids would like that." Zelda attempted a smile.

"Are you doing okay?" Link's face grimaced. "Ilia…told me about your encounter with Vaati."

"Just a bit shook, but I'll be fine."

"You sure?" Link sat beside her on the bed.

"I am." With an elbow placed on her knee, Zelda rested her head on her hand. "Encountering him…it brought me back to Lake Hylia. When he had that knife pointed at that poor girl. That moment, all I saw was Ilia in her place when I shot that arrow into his leg." Zelda sniffed. "Goddesses…if we didn't escape Ordon, that could've been Ilia, or me."

Link wrapped his arm around Zelda's shoulders. Holding her close. This gesture made Zelda's heart race a bit, along with his sweet smile. She rested her head on his shoulder, nuzzling her head.

"Let's not dwell on what ifs. What matters now is that you and Ilia are here and not with him." Link's free hand gently grasps hers. "And if he does try to hurt either of you, I'll hurt him back."

"I'm sure I can fight him off."

"Oh, I don't doubt that you can kick his ass. You putting that arrow into his leg proves that." The chuckle emitted from Zelda made Link's chest warm. "But I will protect you from anyone who dares to hurt you. With my life, if it comes to that."

"I hope it never gets to that."

"Me too…But I'll still do it regardless."

A grumble emitted from Zelda's stomach area was loud enough for the pair to hear. Blush crept on Zelda's cheeks.

"Sounds like you're hungry." Link stood up, his hand still holding Zelda's. "Fledge & Orielle are making dinner so it should be ready soon. I know a good meal always brings someone's spirits."

"Says the biggest glutton I know." Zelda quipped as she stood up.

"If it works for me then it should work for you then!" Zelda could only laugh at Link's defense.

The pair made their way to the main room of the house. Cawlin & Peatrice were sitting on one of the couches, the former was helping the latter with her bleeding lip. Watching over them is Groose.

"Are you alright?" Zelda asked Peatrice, surprised at her current state.

"Bite off more than I can chew. Link here took care of him." Peatrice let out a wince when Cawlin patted her lip with a rag. "I dealt with much worse so I'll be fine."

"Where's Ilia?"

"She's helping Fledge & Orielle in the kitchen," Groose answered.

A sudden knocking echoed from the direction of the front door. Groose walked over there. Minutes later he returned to the room, with Sheik, Auru, and Linebeck following suit.

"Welcome back to civilization," Sheik greeted Link & Zelda. "How'd everything go for you two?"

"I think I've had worse missions…" Link uttered out

Zelda grapes her other wrist. "Can't say things on my end were better."

Linebeck scratches his neck uneasily. "Midna…told me what happened." Linebeck moves his gaze solely on Zelda. "I'm sorry you had to deal with that. If I knew Vaati would show up I would've never sent you out there."

"It's not your fault. You didn't know," Auru assured him.

"I'm just happy that someone was kind enough to deter him away before he escalated," Zelda hugged herself, letting out a shudder.

"What matters is that you made it back safely." Auru puts his attention back on Linebeck. "Though for the time being, I suggest not sending anyone, especially young women over to the noble district for the time being."

"Yeah, that's probably not a bad idea," Linebeck again put his attention to Zelda. "Again, I'm really sorry."

"It's alright. As Auru said, I'm back here safe sound," Zelda gently maintained.

"Now that's out of the way, Groose, mind if we talk in private? I want to hear how things went with you today."

"Not a problem, Boss." Groose, with Linebeck in tow, exited the room.

"How's Ilia doing? Did Vaati try anything with her?" Sheik asked Zelda with a small hint of urgency.

"He didn't get anywhere near her so she's fine."

"Thank the goddesses for that," Sheik responded with the utmost relief. "Where is she?"

"In the kitchen helping make dinner. Why?"

"Uh…no reason." Sheik places his hand on the side of his neck. "I'm…going to clean up before dinner." He hastily left the room.

"What was that about?" Link wondered only to get a shrug from Zelda.

"I believe…that's something that you can discuss with Sheik himself," Auru suggested.

"You sticking around for dinner, old timer?" Cawlin called over, finishing up tending to Peatrice's wound.

"I would love to but I already have plans for that. Linebeck said that Pumm is making dinner for him later."

"Pumm is a darn good cook so I can't blame him," Peatrice agreed.

"Before I leave, Link, can I ask you a favor?"

"What do you need?" Link responded, interested in what Auru had in mind.

"I need to…take care of some things in the city tomorrow," Auru disclosed. "I don't want to put Sheik at risk, Shad & Ashei are looking for Shad's friend, and I figure Zelda here could use a break after what happened. It's nothing drastic, I promise you that. You know Impa's rule of never traveling Castle Town alone so I need someone to go with me. Is that okay with you?"

"Uh, yeah sure. Not a problem," Link promised the older man. "When do you want to leave?"

"I'll stop by around noon tomorrow. Unless you prefer to sleep in much later."

"I'll be awake!" Link affirmed, ignoring the giggling from Zelda. Auru could only let out an amused smile.

Later into the night…

A short while had passed since they had returned. Many hours trying to find any trace of Kafei. The search had gotten no results. After returning to their room, Shad's mood had been worse than it had been since learning about Kafei's disappearance. Whatever attempt anyone made to improve did not seem to work. Shad barely ate the dinner made by Orielle & Fledge, managing a few bites only for him to retreat into his room claiming to not have much of an appetite.

Ashei could see how Kafei's currently unknown fate was affecting her partner. She had known him long enough for her to see that this was hitting him badly. From the short time she had been around Kafei, Ashei could see how much Shad cares for his friend. Not knowing his fate is more than likely put him on the edge.

Shad sat on the edge of the bed, dressed in his sleep clothes, deep into his thoughts whilst Ashei was putting on some sleepwear of her own. When she was done, she moved to her stressed boyfriend. Ashei wrapped her arm around Shad which seemed to snap him out of his thoughts.

"You doing okay?" Ashei asked him

"I'm fine." Shad let out a tired breath. "Just…worried."

"He's fine. I know he is."

"What if…he isn't? This isn't like Kafei. He wouldn't just up and leave like this. Something must've happened to him, surely. For all I know, he could be dead in a ditch somewhere."

"You don't know that." Ashei moves Shad's head to have his gaze meet hers.

"I know…but not knowing unnerves me. We covered so much ground yet we found nothing. Not even Linebeck heard anything…I promised Anju I would do what I can to find him. Not coming back without even knowing what happened would break her heart. Mines as well."

"This is a big city. There are plenty of places that we haven't searched. We'll find him, I promise." Right at that moment, Shad let out a yawn. "Maybe a good night's sleep should clear your head."

"I am feeling rather tired. All the searching had left me dire."

"And maybe sleep will bring back the optimistic Shad that I know well, yeah? The same Shad that brought me up when I felt like giving up."

The Scholar let out a small smile, giving a quick peck on Ashei's lips. "Like that, Sweet Dove?"

"That's more like it! Keep that up and I'm sure we'll be bound to find something in no time."

Shad lean against Ashei's shoulder. "I suppose you're right. Perhaps some sleep is what I need."

Not too long later, they turned in for the night. Ashei slept soundly on her side, letting out quiet snores at several points in her peaceful deep slumber. Shad on the other hand was the opposite Eyes glued to the ceiling wide awake, his mind swarmed with thoughts that made him too troubled to even close his eyes.

Part of him urged him to listen to Ashei's words. That they will find out about what happened with Kafei. Yet a small part of him can not help but worry. It nagged into his head repeatedly. The nagging voice said that what he was doing wasn't enough. That he needed to try his hardest no matter what. This is one of those moments where Shad found himself at odds with his brain, and his heart.

His brain tells him that going to desperate measures was not the most logical idea. Doing so would put him at risk. His heart on other hand…his heart tells him that he cannot lose Kafei much like he lost his parents. The heart says that he needs to do this.

Shad moves his head to look over at Ashei's sleeping form. After long minutes of his brain and heart debating with one another, Shad made a decision. One that might make Ashei upset, and maybe mad at him, rightfully so. But it was done to save a friend. And if it doesn't work out, he can hope the worst outcome is dealing with Ashei's scolding that she will give to him.

The winner of his internal debate was none other than his heart.

"Old Woman: Only you can walk your path of destiny"

Peter Griffin: Ah! Ah! She said it!"

Now we all see how things went on Zelda, Ilia, and Midna's end. More background is revealed. I do wonder who that old woman is though. I'm sure she isn't anyone important, hehe...I do wonder what Shad is planning.
