Undertale Before And After
The Harden Heart
Journal Entry 3
People who are murdered or left with unfinished business do not move onto the afterlife. They persist, but without a vessel, a Human Soul becomes restless, angry, full of suffering, pain, and has a thirst for vengeance. A Human Soul's energy converts into unspeakable paranormal which only magic or a priest can stop. We must move the soul to the next world as we always do.

What does LV stand for? Some argue level of violence, which isn't a bad acronym and is true; but it stands for something more though. A Hardened Heart. A Harden Heart comes in many forms, killing, ACT, MERCY killing, Power, Lust, and Desire. What a person chooses how to hurt. The more you choose to harm others, the easier it gets. And more execution points you earn. Our stats increase as we gain LV but didn't you know that armor, the combination of body mass and soul empowers the body? Macgilvary's health has diminished and is continuing due to his age, his natural resistances are also. All of us are. Mage's have no natural magic attacks or resistances without years of training but Monsters do. Monsters are naturally made of magic, and in a short time, they can Master their powers. Humans can surpass Monsters though, due to our soul's power. Humans are connected to their souls through our vessel, Monsters are attuned to their souls directly. Some Monsters can equally match or even surpass a trained Magician. Worst of all, taking a Human Soul allows a Monster to access a power a Human may never achieve without absorbing a Boss Monster Soul. Except for a particular soul trait that is excluded from all of this. That story is for another day.
Night had befallen and we had set up camp, preparing for the ritual. Ogilvy is under his tent, heartbroken and more discouraged than I am, Conroy is cleaning and burying the body in the shrubs, Oona setting up the ritual, Reiley sitting by the fire, Dillan and Macgillvary consorting together. I sit by the fire staring at a soul floating in a glass jar, remembering every person I saw die or directly killed. I thought, "This poor little girl only went into the forest to search for her brother and ended in the same fate. I hope the next life is kinder to her." I knew where I was going but was uncertain about her.
The Fire cracks, the crickets chirping, wolves howling at the half moon, and Macgillvary and Dillan whisper is the only sound in the night. Moments pass0 which feel like hours. Macgillvary done speaking to Dillan, walks to his sister, "Tis ready Oona?"
"Not yet."
"I-" The bushes suddenly start rustling around us.
"Brother, did thou hear that?"
"I-I did."
"What shall that sound be?" Oona says as she stands upright.
To the half moon, a howl is heard, "Arrwoooo!:
Reiley stands, Ogilvy sits up, Macgillvary and Oona hunch their backs in defensive stances, Dillan clamps his fist in order for us to huddle and Conroy runs out of the shrubs. We all huddle in a circle backs against one another. In every corner in the dark we hear growling, we are being stalked. Then Suddenly nothing. No growling but in the dark two white and bright shining eyes open in the pitch black, and slowly approach the light. Revealing its snout first and following behind a starving exterior. (Ribs showing.) Its lips vibrate against its teeth, then we learn what tis, the same starving mangy wolf from before. It stood upright, nine feet tall and we all stood surprised, twas a Monster, snarling at us, it begins to talk, "Humans…" It drools.
We all broke formation and stance. Our faces turn pale, every once of terror is written upon us. A Monster still on the surface, tis unbelievable. To this very day as I write this, a Werewolf. Twasn't a full moon, tis a purebred, which means a Monster that can absorb Human souls. Our souls. The Beast takes a step forward, we slowly walk back. As The Beast approaches, we continue walking back, forgetting the jar containing a soul inside it. All of us wait for a magical barrier to entrap us, limiting our movement. The Monster's foot brushes against the jar, all but Macgillvary and Dillan gasp as The Creature picks it up, twisting the lid open. Macgillvary staff shapes itself into a bow and he shoots an arrow that grows in size hitting the beast, Dillan following shoots electricity from his wand. Both impact at the same time and leave a wind of dust and dirt blowing the burning logs into the forest, starting a fire. We all begin coughing, which forces Reiley to grunt making the first sound we heard from him in years. When the dust and dirt lift, we spot a fire behind us growing rapidly, then we turn around to find the Scrunny Werewolf caving the soul in its hands.
The Beast speaks, " You six particular Humans are far more disgusting than the rest of your forsaken species. I've watched you for thirty years, killing Men and Women, now this, a child? This Young Girl is the last soul you will take and with your souls I will avenge all of The Monsters this world slaughtered."
Macgillvary's bow returns to its original form and he slams his staff, "Tis why we sealed your kind away Monster. To stop such a slaughter."
"You call me a Monster?" The Beast pointed to himself. "Slaughtering your very own kind. Why? Tis because a Human soul can break this barrier?"
Each one of us freezes in time, sweat drips from our faces. This Beast knew. It knew! The Monster clamps its hands shut, and a sudden flash of bright light forces us to cover our faces and close our eyes for a moment. When we could see again, we noticed The Beast grew twelve high, the strength of 20 young men, long sharp claws, razor-sharp teeth, and its eyes glowing bright red. The Beast swings its arms, we all try to take off but we are blocked off by the fire. The Beast jumps toward Macgillvary and punches him, knocking him back into the fire.
"Aaaaaahhh!" His shriek echoes into the night sky as he burns, Oona tries to run in after her brother but Conroy grabs her by the arm, "No! Thou will burn too! He's gone."
Dillan assumes command and turns quickly releasing four strains of lighting from the tip of his wand, impacting the beast; it is not affected. Instead, The Beast absorbs the magic, and the electricity surges to his arm and releases the bolts knocking Dillan through the burning woods. Reiley jumps forward, slamming his staff; his soul glows bright orange and gives an orange outline to his body; The Soul of Bravery. The crust of the Earth beneath his staff cracks toward The Werewolf, only swallowing him half-whole furiously but The Beast holds to the outer layer of the ground. Climbing itself out. Peaking an eye open, Reiley finds The Beast has escaped the ravine. Closing his eyes and focusing on his magic makes The Earthquake, causing The Werewolf to fall into the ravine. The Beast jumps out with ease and free falls towards Reliey. Reiley, hearing The Monster, opens his eyes and looks up, with no time to react he closes his eyes and bows his head, and accepts his fate. Suddenly a sound of glass breaking happens, Reiley was shielded by a green orb but the damage was too high, the orb had busted causing Reiley to be tossed to the ground barely reaching the burning bushes and trees. Holding onto life by a thread, all he could see was Ogilvy before passing out.
These were the exact words from Oona after Reiley was knocked unconscious. Dillan comes jumping out of the burning thickets with his robes on fire. Conroy throws his cane into the air and catches it by the very bottom. "Omborom" he shouts and his cane releases water from the very hook. The water hits Dillan's robes, putting out the fire.
The Beast stands straight up, "So you survived."
"It will take more than that to kill me, foul beast."
"Heh. This is more like it. Let the fun begin. "Snapping its claws a white square barrier surrounds all five of us with our souls appearing infront of us giving off the color around our bodies. Blue, Green, Purple, Cyan, unfortunately orange.
Trapped in a small barrier with the limited room we stood little chance with our age for physical movement and a Monster with a Human soul. I was not focused on this fight, all I could think of was my brother. Still hearing his screams echoing in my head. All of a sudden Conroy steps infront of me, he summons purple "chains", grabbing The Beast by its wrists and shins. Pulling The Monster to the ground on all fours, buying us some time. I summon blue fireballs. Hurling them repetitively one after another more powerful than the last. Anger, fury, and hatred burn in my core, yet my anger turns to tears and weakness comes. I stop. Ash, dust, smoke, and fire lift in the air. No effort or fighting from the other end. Twas over. We won. At least tis what I thought.
Conroy's thoughts:
I knew Oona is hot-headed sometimes but I had never seen such hatred from her. She never liked Monsters but this. Her brother. The two were close since childhood. Both taught by a loving Father, leaving no time to play. He trained them to become Mages in their early primes. Oona was seventeen, her brother was nineteen then came the war X years later. During those harsh battles, the two were always near each other and had each other's backs. So many times they both died but Hewas able to bring them back. All of us back. This time there were no second chances. One life. Macgillvary is not coming back. She must deal with it forever.
Ogilvy's Point of view:
"Reiley. " I shouted, "Wake up!" My staff's holy light healed his wounds to a survivable condition but what worried me was his head, he hit it hard from the impact. Where I cannot heal, his mind. Luckily for me, I was not the focus of the werewolf, as it was busy with the others. Oona rushes into the midst of the battle. The blue fire in the shape of a sphere, one after another, a crying shriek of anger, one after another, another, another and another. Each hit released a fiery explosion of ash and dust. But I couldn't watch much, Reiley needs me. He wasn't breathing. I gave him mouth-to-mouth and pushed against his heart, "Reiley! Come back! Reiley wake up! We aren't losing two!"
"Reiley!" Oona came crying, Conroy and Dillan didn't they stood still near the ash waiting for it to lift.
I give Reliey one more whip of breath and finally, he coughs. His body sparks with life and his eyes pop open.
"Reiley!" We both exclaim.
Then suddenly a maniacal laugh came out of the fog, "Heheheheheheheha! You think I will fall down that easily?" The fog of ash lifts and we see red eyes.
"You kill hundreds of innocents of your own. Sending their souls to the next life. To prevent my kinds innocence from seeing the stars. While your miserable species rule the surface. Cutting my kind off from food and sunlight."
The three of us run over to Conroy and Dillan. Using our souls the color of our very being emerge and cover our bodies in an aura. As the fog lifts, we find The Beast infront of us, teeth and claws, "The five of you think you can defeat us?"
"Us?" Conroy lifts an eyebrow.
"Us." The werewolf growls. The wolf sweeps its arm across its chest breaking the magical chains through the ankle bracelets still attached to The Monster's shins, "Now it's my turn!"
Black shadows grow from The Monsters Claws, first growing arms then hands and fingers, and long claws. It uses them for range and slices away at us, we all take a variety of damage per hit. Clawing into our skin leaving deep scratch marks, we scream in pain and all of us fall to one or both knees. Ogilvy raises his staff and a bright light shines from it. "Holy light, shine bright, heal our wounds tonight!" Our skin starts to grow back but leaves blood marks and scars behind. Dillan quickly stands first and waves his wand in a circle around the side of his head, "Fulgur Percutien." Dark clouds form and it starts to rain, and Thunder is heard rumbling. Lightning strikes at the position of The Werewolf and The Werewolf summons a big fang to block the lightning strike. The Werewolf comes out a bit cooked from the explosion, taking little damage, "Haha!" It chuckles, "Is that all you have?"
The Werewolf charges into our barrier and slices at us, blood spurts out of us as we fall back hitting the barrier. Ogilvy was the first to stand, he dropped his staff as he got hit. Covering his arm his fingers push against his wound. Blood soaks into his palm and fingertips, reaching down for his staff Ogilvy checks his health.
Ogilvy LV 31
30/80 HP
The others twitch as they try to rise to their feet, Ogilvy whispers a spell, "Reprehendo Civitas." Revealing everyone's current health:
Dillan LV 38
37/140 HP
Oona LV 36
35/112 HP
Conroy LV 34
36/106 HP
Reiley LV 37
27/120 HP
Ogilvy slams his staff and green ripples come forth healing everyone by thirty HP. This allows us to stand a little easier, as we all rise to our feet, The Werewolf snaps its fingers and sharp fangs surround us in a circle of two, one surrounding us left to right, another going diagonal above the ground into the air. The fangs tear our skin open or pierce into our bones. "Aaaaahhh!" We all scream in pain. This was a battle none of us ever fought, this Monster is faster and stronger than the five of us as a team. Ogilvy repeats his spell, "Holy light, shine bright, heal our wounds tonight!"
This spell heals us to max HP. "That took everything I had left in me, we must finish this beast now!"
Dillan nods and thinks to himself. "Where is he?"
Dillan sees a shadow pass by in the fire, "Reiley!" Dillan shouts. "Slam your staff! Now!"
Reiley jumps into the air and slams his staff causing the Earth to shake once again. As the Earth trembles before us, the ground splits open a little wider. Conroy focuses all his power to bring The Beast to its knees, Oona uses her blue magic, clamping her fist shut, and pulls on the Beast's soul to bring it to its hands. The monstrosity fell to all fours, The Beast stretches its arms out and clenches its claws into the ground Oona tries to pull it further into the abyss below, Reiley shaking the Earth to no avail. The Monster manages to keep holding and loses little endurance, cyan lightning comes forth in eight strikes. But nothing affects The Monster. "Ahahahaha! With the power of this Child's soul, I am a God!"
It's right, with just one soul for a Monster, we would need a Monster soul to be at equal power with it. As The Monster rises up, we stand exhausted, "My turn!" The Monster snarls.
"I think not!" Dillan says.
"Huh? Arrwooo!" A yellow arrow pierces into the back of The Werewolf.
"Oona! Your blue magic! Now!"
Oona clenches her fist and brings The Monster onto its stomach. "Reiley!"
Reiley nods and opens the ground again, Ogilvy orbs the five of us. Conroy pulls the chains. The Beast couldn't catch its balance this time. "Reiley wider!" A man yells from behind The Werewolf. Reiley doing what he was told opens the hole even wider, splitting further behind The Monster.
Dillan shouts, "Shut it!"
The Earth collides, the trees shake from the wind blowing out the fire, and the Earth vibrates. Twas over. The Beast could not survive that. Oona falls to her knees and cries, Dillan walks over and places his hand on her shoulder. She swipes by his arm and knocks his hand off "Thou knew he was alive. Thou Monster!"
"I'm sorry Oona, twas no other way to kill that beast."
Conroy walks as fast as he can to Oona's side, "What has happened?"
Ogilvy chimes in, "Twas Macgillvary." He survived."
"That was his arrow?"
"Indeed. None of us could harm that demon. I hoped Macgillvary snuck around sooner" Dillan says.
Oona looks up from being hunched over into her knees, "You hoped? He's dead!"
Dillan pauses and collects his thoughts, "Macgillvary's sacrifice was necessary. You saw what our attacks did. Little to no effect. We couldn't even tire The Beast out to pull him down. Do not think your brother died needlessly. Honor what he did for you. What good was left in him."
Oona stares at Dillan's blank expression and buries her head into her robes to sob more. Dillan looks at his wrist, "I have little time before I transform." He thought to himself.
Covering his wrist with his sleeve, he says, "We must be off."
Conroy stands up, "Give her a moment for pitties sake!"
Dillan calmly speaks, "We move. Now."
Conroy clenches his fist and gently grabs Oona's hand to raise her from the ground. Ogilvy and Reiley follow behind Dillan. When we arrive at our hovel Dillan sits at the round table and begins to write. Conroy escorts Oona to her room, Ogilvy attends to Reiley. Hours pass and Dillan rings the bell, we all come out and sit, one spot remains empty. "This is a short experience and notes of what I've seen and on what to do when I'm gone." Dillan says.
"Gone?" Ogilvy speaks.
"Yes." Dillan pulls his sleeve up.
We all gasp, "I forgot thou were bit." Conroy exclaims.
"Yes I only have fourteen days before a full moon."
We all turn our heads down to look at our knees or the other direction. "I release ye to your families. Your job to protect this mountain is over."
"And where shall thou go?" Oona says.
"To the mountain."
"If they catch thou, they will kill thou!"
"I cannot be on the surface for I will turn savage if moonlight shines on me and I'm no longer Human. I'm a hybrid. I plan to go today."
"Tis best thou go. If not we'd have to kill thou. But what if Humans wander into the mountain?" Ogilvy says.
"I shall handle it."
"What shall we say to Macgillvary's family?" Conroy scratches his chin.
"He died a hero."
Ogilvy leans up, "A hero? A bloody hero?"
"Yes. He di-."
"No. We're murderers. Macgillvary is probably in hell right now! Ogilvy yells.
Oona looks in the other direction and sobs into her hands, then she stands up and raises her left arm, "I'll tell them everything."
"You'll tell them what we did?" Ogilvy grunts.
"Yes. It's not like we have anything to hide." Oona replies.
Ogilvy grinds his teeth, "Of course not like our very lives."
"Macgillvary's family will keep a secret," Oona says.
"Fine… I didn't like the lie Dillan suggested. Very well." Ogilvy says.
"Agreed." Conroy chimes in.
"Hmph." Dillan grunts. "It's not like we had a choice. Remember when we found out they were not Gods? We did this to avoid second slavery, false worship, and possible genocide."
"I don't care. I'm turning a new leaf over." Oona says.
"Same." Ogilvy says.
"So am I," Conroy says.
Reiley nods.
Dillan stands up, "I see, Four new lives of repentance. Slowly your LV will decrease over time."
Dillan walks to the robe closet, takes off his cyan robe and hangs it up, and puts on a dark navy blue cloak. "This hovel. Burn it to the ground. Leave no evidence we were ever here. Reiley. Take this paper. I foresee you will make something marvelous from it. As for all of ye, please travel with me." Arriving at the mountain, Dillan puts the navy Blue hood over his head, "I'm going to seek a cure, and when I find one I plan to take The Monster King or Queen's soul."
"A cure?" Conroy speaks.
"Yes. I hope to see ye all again."
Dillan hugs Oona, "May you find peace."
Conroy grabs Dillan's hand and pulls him into a hug, "I didn't always agree with thou but thou saved my neck in the war."
Ogilvy tears shed from his eyes, "Macgillivray's dead and thy art leaving us."
"Tis for the best."
Reiley steps forward, head bowed after Ogilvy leaves, "Goodbye my reckless friend." Reiley holds tight for a good moment. Letting go of Dillan, Dillann walks to the cave entrance. "Goodbye, my friends, may you find better days."
And this was it, the last we saw of Dillan. The four of us burnt the hovel and everything in it and prevented a forest fire with Conroy's water magic. After all that we separated and went on with our lives, turning them over. And prayed earnestly for forgiveness.
