Interlude I: Conviction

Indigo, a unified nation seemingly stable on the outside…

But those with authority, those in power know much more.

Indigo was slowly tearing itself apart.

Gary Blue Oak, the grandson of the famous and prestigious Samuel Oak, had little knowledge of the political threat that Indigo was facing, and aspired to be the Indigo champion.

And, when the Indigo league reached their hand out, The rising trainer accepted the offer…

And waged war against the parasite that was the rockets, he would "Exterminate" them.

Discovered Rocket base, Outskirts of Cerulean city

"Exterminator squad, roll out!" A voice over a radio ordered, and a mere second after, an explosion boomed across the lands, the pool of water surrounding them sprayed all of them with water.

"Charge!" Another voice shouted, it came from an orange-haired, young adult, who was the only one in casual clothing, everyone else at the site was covered in thick clothes which shrouded their identity.

In a flash of brilliant scarlet light, a massive Blastoise appeared, "Vice, blast a bigger hole!" Gary shouted out, amidst the crowd surrounding a cylinder-like building, a Dragonite flew into the air, with a trainer covered in thick, black clothes with a scarf and goggles mounting on the dragon.

"Hyper beam!" A faint voice could be heard from deep into the air, and in an instant, the entire building was crushed under the pressure of the attack.

"Now, charge!" Gary shouted, releasing an Arcanine and Alakazam, dozens of trainers accompanied him, all raiding the building.

"This is the rocket extermination team, if you don't wish to be killed, remain still and accept capture!" Gary recited, "As you just saw, just one hyper beam caused this entire building to crash against itself, several more would destroy this building!"

He waved his left arm, as the other gripped tightly on his Pokeballs…

And, through the rubble, came out several rockets.

"As expected…"

"Do you wish to be captured, or killed!" Gary hollered, frowning when the rockets released their Pokemon, and at a moment's notice…

"I see, you wish to be exterminated."

And, with a snap of his fingers…

The Ekans, Raticiate, every single Pokemon the dozen rocket grunts or so sent at them…

Were gone, with just a hydro pump from Gary's blastoise.

Bodies piled upon the floor, Gary snapped his fingers again, "Go capture them, send the ones that are injured to a hospital." He ordered, and the dozens of people all swarmed the rocket base.

"Be careful, buddy, try not to hit the ceiling-" Gary said softly, smiling softly as he heard a loud thud from Blastoise.

"Idiot."

"What a load of fucking bull…" Gary heard someone mutter, he slowly turned around, only to see the working trainers…

"Wha–"

His eyes widened as he cocked his head up, only to see a seemingly deranged man, holding a dagger…

Leap at him-

"Alakaza-" Gary muttered, as the man's dagger slowly was in range of his pupil, breath hitching, "Now!"

Alakazam's eyes glowed a bright blue, levitating the man and slamming him onto the wall besides Gary.

"Thank you, Ala." Gary praised, before approaching the man, "Oi, get up." He ordered, the man's uniform was different; it had two stars imprinted onto the red R symbol…

"Stop faking death, I have a fucking psychic right next to me, you know?" Gary spat, grabbing the man by his shirt.

"Alakazam, brain numb." Gary ordered, as the Alakazam's eyes glowed a faint blue, and with a flick of his spoon, the man's entire body tensed…

One second…

Two seconds…

The man suddenly screamed in pain, Hm, he lasted longer than usual.

"You're of a high rank, aren't you?" Gary said, a grin spreading across his face.

"Now, while the grunts are being deported, I would like to have a small…nice chat with you." Gary said cheerfully, "That brain numb technique I just used? You better get used to it."

Cerulean City Police Department

Gary walked into a dimly lit room, the captured Rocket seemed to be fiddling with his handcuffed hands, he seemed to be pale, and his eyes gave away nothing, twitching as Gary slowly approached a chair.

"Alright, listen here, dipshit, I don't want to get my hands dirty, so I recommend you listen to my command." Gary spat, "I got my Alakazam out there, and he will blow that fucking brain of yours if you try anything out of hand, got it!?"

The man gulped, but still glared at Gary, who scoffed, and glared back, "First question…"

"What is your name? Codenames can work too, although both would be preferred." Gary asked the man, who looked at him intently.

"Whatcha waiting for? The fucking bell? You better answer the damn question." Gary said, slamming his hand onto the table, the man, however, was tight lipped.

"Tch, how annoying." Gary muttered, Alakazam, Brain numb.

Gary avoided flinching as he saw the man visibly gag, he snapped his fingers as iron bars constrained the rocket, who suddenly screamed in pain, gasping for air as his arms were constrained by the bars, seemingly reaching for his head.

"It hurts, doesn't it? It'll all go away, if you simply told us your name…or codename." Gary whispered, putting a hand on his shoulder, the rocket cocked his head around to meet Gary's eyes.

"Go…F-fuck…yourself, dickhead." The man managed out, gasping for air as he desperately tried to break free from the iron bars.

"You know…We found some pretty powerful Pokemon on you, well, for rocket standards, a Pidgeot and an Arbok? For you to have such well-trained Pokemon, you must be of high rank…"

"And your information is valuable, so why don't you spit that shit out?" Gary spat, hovering his head over the Rocket who was screaming in agony, his cries echoing across the spacious room.

Intensify

The man's voice was now hoarse, as he slammed himself against the constrained chair, "Seems like someone's getting violent, just so you know, I'm just asking…for a fucking name."

"F-fine, I-t's O-Fuck! Oswald Jones! Code Name! F-fucking…Salvish! My code name was Salvish! Please make it s-stop!"

"Is he telling the truth?"

Yes, he is

Gary smirked, and with a snap of his fingers, the rocket seemed to calm down, as a wave of relief could be visibly seen washing through him.

"Good job, Oswald, Now, who the fuck is the leader of Team Rocket?" Gary asked instantly, he didn't have the patience to whittle out the small details, he needed the largest piece of information he could salvage from this one, pathetic rocket.

"I-I don't know, only executives are granted that knowledge…" The rocket muttered, Gary nodded when Alakazam confirmed the truth.

"What rank are you?" Gary asked, the rocket gulped again, "I-I'm…fuck…I'm Lietunent officer…"

Gary mused, "Alright, why were you present? As the base we raided was a minor base that was mostly made up of political researchers, with only a few dozen rockets."

"I…Can't tell you that." The rocket said firmly, "No matter what-"

The man suddenly gagged in pain, and within only a few seconds, he was grunting and gritting in pain, attempting to resist the torture he was experiencing.

"Intensify."

The rocket slammed his body against the iron bars, screaming in pain as his entire body churned and skirmishes.

"Fucking tell me, or else I will make you feel pain even stronger." Gary spat, the rocket muttered something incomprehensible, but was obviously an insult.

"What a fucking waste of time." Gary muttered, before exiting the room.

"Alakazam, keep doing what you're doing until he either gives in, or passes out."

"Yessir…Trainer, you're afraid of witnessing pain, aren't you?"

"Shut the fuck up, Alakazam."

"I won't, asshole."

"Since when did you learn such vulgar language?"

"I fucking live with you everday, did you expect me to end up like the Alakazam at the ranch?"

"Just do your damn job."

Five hours later

Gary gained nothing from the Rocket, he wasn't the best interrogator, and he knew that, but damn was he horrible.

He exited the Celadon Police Department, The Rocket had reportedly blacked out, and has been taken into League custody so that an interrogator with actual experience could potentially pry information from the rocket.

Celadon city was massive, towers spanning high into the air were everywhere, the city was always bustling with people. Gary had no interest in the city right now however, and entered the PokeCenter with Alakazam by his side.

"Hello, I would like to register for a teleport with my Alakazam." Gary said as he approached the nurse joy, who turned around from a computer screen, "Hello, sure-"

"Oh!" She exclaimed as her eyes locked with Gary, the entire room suddenly shifted attentions toward him by the sudden exclamation.

"W-well uhm…normally you would have to wait a couple of minutes…but since, well-" Nurse joy sputtered, as Gary stopped him.

"No, it's honestly fine, how long will it take?" Gary asked firmly, the Nurse blinked in surprise.

"Oh! Erm…twenty minutes it seems."

Gary nodded,"Have a great day."

The eyes continued to stare at him, Gary should be used to it considering fame was a part of his goal, but it still feels…odd.

"You from a year ago would've gladly accepted that offer." Alakazam said, Gary scoffed, "Shut up, I'm not that same immature newbie that I was when you were a useless Abra that could only teleport."

"Shut up."

"You shut up…" Gary muttered, "I thought Alakazam were like wise and shit, why the heck are you like this?"

"The only example I can go off of is you, what did you honestly expect?"

"Listen here ya dip shit-"

Gary was interrupted by his PokeDex ringing, he raised his eye in curiosity, as he opened the Pokedex, and saw a message.

"Weekly report:"

"The PokeTranslate is working great! It's usage is smooth, albeit the voices are choppy when screaming from afar, I think it is working great-"

Gary skimmed through the rest, he honestly didn't care, and only wrote a polite reply.

He sighed in boredom, before checking the NBO to see if any "flashy" new trainers that the media has been hyping up have appeared.

"Prodigy of Celadon!-"

Gary scowled, "You call him the Prodigy of Celadon? Blah! He's just another rich boy with flashy Pokemon!"

"Genius of Cinnabar-"

Gary scoffed, "The media hypes up everyone…"

Since he was bored, he decided to check the battle listed under the title, It was a battle between Brock and the so called "Genius of Cinnabar," Liel Nokian, it was for the third gym badge.

"Mmhmm…Yep, fire specialist huh? Ah-of course he has a Charmeleon…"

Gary frowns, the trainer didn't seem to be that impressive, the three Pokemon he used were Charmeleon, Numel, and a fucking Torkoal.

If he couldn't win with such impressive Pokemon, then Gary just felt bad for him, this "Liel" kid nearly lost to Brock despite having such overwhelming Pokemon. Even with the type disadvantage, his Charmeleon knew metal claw and dragon rage, his Numel knew mudshot, and his Torkoal's sun-boost fire attacks could demolish any third-gym Pokemon.

Fucking hell, Torkoal is also pretty pacifist, he doesn't get a plus on being able to tame such a dangerous Pokemon.

"The media needs to find the difference between gifted and talented trainers, from average trainers that are rich and have powerful Pokemon."

Gary continued scrolling, until he crossed one specific article…

"New rising trainer from Viridian! Water specialists better watch out!"

Gary clicked on the article, there was footage attached with an overwhelmingly large wall of text. Most of the text was just narrating the actual battle, he was amused by the name tag though…

"Kore Eversor…sounds interesting."

Gary clicked on the video attached, and watched the battle footage intently.

He sped up some parts, and when he finished…

He was impressed.

"You feeling impressed? Oh my!" Alakazam satirically sent a thought to Gary, "Shut up."

"Even if he is at essentially the bottom of the page, he still managed to get on NBO's rising trainers list…"

The actual strategy and combat prowess of Kore Gary couldn't analyze efficiently, but he definitely wasn't any slouch.

"He might be a strong ace trainer…"

Gary doubted whether or not Kore could truly climb the ranks of an elite trainer, from what he'd known from his previous encounter the trainer had the ambition…

But without something really pushing him, something catapulting his growth rate…

The possibility seems slim.

"Every single Elite trainer there has had some personal experience that forced them to break through the shell…"

"The shell concealing their potential…"

Gary smiled softly at the analogy…

"I've used this too many times, and the reason is because of you…"

"You were my breaking point…"

"You are the reason why I have grown thus far…" Gary muttered.

Alakazam's eyes glowed a bright blue, "For god's sake you were just watching battle footage and now you are lamenting about him? What are you, some heartbroken teenage girl?

"Shut up…" Gary whispered.

"Without conviction, a trainer cannot continue, and conviction only comes when the shell concealing talent has been shattered by the force known as experience."

"You were my experience…"

"Red."

Alakazam rolled his eyes, "Stop daydreaming like a heartbroken teenage girl!"

"Shut up-"

"Uhm, Gary Oak, you may come up to the teleport station!"

Gary stood up, and slowly walked through a hallway.

"I should really get over you, huh?"

"How long has it been…A year now?"

Gary smirked, "Kore Eversor…he's interesting, you think I should help him a bit?"

Alakazam accompanied Gary, "But yeah, thanks I guess…"

"I'm off to get revenge."

Next mission:

Saffron city underground Rocket base raid…
