CHAPTER 12 ATTACKING DEFENSE
NOW IT'S WORLD BUILDING TIME. WAAAAAAAH!
Chase was impatient, "Can we go any faster? I want to start this as soon as possible!" he wasn't snarling, due to Skye's presence, he was managing to contain most of his frustration.
"So you got questions fo' he'?" Zuma was finishing a pizza roll, that he grabbed when they passed through the main room.
"You bet, and we even may prove that she was the one that gave the extra invite to the Bone Crushers and that will invalidate our bet and you will be my personal butler for the rest of the days we spent here." Chase gave a victory smile, proud for making the labrador taste his own medicine, but this victory was short-lived, since he grinned.
"Oh, oh, oh! No, not so fast Chase, you didn't pwove it back then, so you can't just wemake the bet."
"Oh yes I can!" the two pups looked each other in the eyes.
All the talking attract the curious Tracker, "What is all this commotion about, amigos?" he easily detected the tension between the two.
"Chase is twying to cheat by twying to bet again, because he lost."
"Who says that I can't repeat the bet! If we have the chance to do it again we can do it."
"You didn't even finished the cuwent bet! So no deal."
"I think I can help you with that, but first I need another witness." he looked, until his eyes stopped in Quest, " Perfecto! Quest can you come here; please?"
She reached them in only two jumps, "What'cha you need?" she, sweetly, ask.
"I need you to be here to back me up in a solution for these two problem."
"Sure!"
"So Chase, you can take the bet again, but if you lose the three day shift refreshes, so this means if Chase loses, Zuma, he has to give you an extra day of... What was the bet you guys made?" he realized that he didn't knew what was the bet about.
"Chase and I made a bet that, if he didn't made Sweetie confess that she was the one that send the invite to the Bone Cwushews, then he would do what I owde' him to do, but if he managed to make he' talk, then it would be me that had to be his slave." Zuma finished that sentence in a dark tone, enough to send chills on the two young pups.
"Don't listen to him, his exaggerating. But, mostly is true." Chase, tranquilized the two pups, it was his job has a police dog and has one of the oldest pups in the group.
"So if Chase loses the three days restarts in the moment when it's one hundred percent certain that he has lost, and the same thing for Zuma applies, but until then, Zuma can't give any more orders to Chase!" Quest landed the verdict, "What do you think?"
"I agree."
"Sí."
"It's cool."
"Finally, I'm out of your grasp!" said a relieved German shepherd.
"Don't stawt pawtying yet, dude!" Zuma warned his friend.
"The same thing applies for you." he shoot back.
"Wace to see who gets thewe fiwst!" he zipped.
"Not fair!" Chase begin the chase.
"Aren't they older than us?" Quest turned to Tracker.
"Yes, but that doesn't mean they can't have fun!" he smiled.
"Sooo wanna do it to?"
"Vámonos."
They both left at the exact same time.
Meanwhile in the Air Patroller*
"So, you all know why we are here." Lucio was on the left bench in the cockpit, the rest of his crew were sitting on the left bench, expect Budy, due to the fact, that for him to be sitting in a comfortable way he would need to occupy, at least one sit and a half, if we are being generous. Tratcher and Karen were was distant from one another as physically possible, Archy and Caesar were in the middle.
"Yes, to find that item, that one your father tried to steal, but'a failed." Caesar scratched his chin, to remember of their objective.
"Yes... Thank you." he bit his lips, to get away his emotions surrounding the failed mission of his father, now in his paws,"That item is a weapon, that it's too dangerous to even being in the right hands of someone, it can cause catastrophic problems."
"So what is it? How does it look like?" Archy asked.
"I can't tell you that."
"Bloody hell! Are you kidding me? What do you mean? We are your own team, he have to know what is the object we are looking for!" Archy protested, slamming his paw on the cushions.
"My father told me to keep this a secret." Lucio tried to contain the mood in the room, but to no avail.
"I'm with Archy on this one, Boss. We can't act not knowing what our main objective is!" Tratcher backed him up.
"The only ones that can know it are my dad, me and Budy, because he was the only of the original team members that saw what it was."
"If he is allowed to know it, then come I'm not? I was also there." Karen was mildly annoyed.
"But you wewe on the ship, not in the tewain." Budy tried to appeal her calm side.
"I know that, but I still saw what happened, and ya can't tell me otherwise." she puffed, in frustration.
"Wasn't there a giant explosion, or something of the kind?" Tratcher was looking at various holograms, coming from her collar.
"See it's in the bloody internet, if even this furball can just check what happen by just pressing a screen, then it puts us all in the same boat. Oh, wait a minute! We were already together in this!" Karen had her claws extend, piercing the soft sofa.
"Come on, Karen. I know you awe upset, but I can tell you." the St. Bernard smiled.
"Hold on Budy! Two things first; first what the hell is that?" he pointed at his back.
"What's what?" Budy replied, confused.
"This!" he pointed at a sleeping Alex on his back, while having a small circular mirror coming from his pup back, so that Budy could see his back.
"Oh! You'we talking about Alex?"
"No, of course not! It was about your new haircut." Lucio, ironically, replied taking a deep breath to calm his nerves.
"I'm sowwy, Boss, he must have done this when we wewe occupied with Chase. I can't even feel him at all!"
"Occupied with Chase? What happen? Dime, now!"
"Lad, manners!" Karen yelled.
"Sorry. Can you please..." Karen gave him a deadly glare, "... Can you pretty please tell me what happen?" her face became softer.
"Go ahead and tell him, Archy." Tratcher pushed him to the talk.
The boxer grumbled, before starting to narrate the occurrence, after he finish, Lucio murmur something, "I need a sit." he ignored the chair were he was already sited, got out and turned the pilot chair, revealing a shut down Robot dog, once he finished his spin, the head pop out and rolled trough the floor, this made Lucio jump into Budy, sticking to his dense, fluffy fur.
A loudly silence was all that could be heard.
"Which one of you did this?" he was angry, still stuck though.
"Ya have to be more specific, lad!"
"It's with you two mates! I have a robot arm." he raised his left front leg.
"It's just metal and how does that excuse you?" Tratcher corrected him.
"He's made of metal, my leg is made of metal, so I feel connected to robots that are dogs." he, calmly, responded with a smile.
"What? That's the most stupid thing I ever heard, and I'm counting with every single word that as come from the mouth of this pompous snake." Karen pointed at Tratcher.
"Thanks, I guess?" she was slightly confused.
"I mean it must have been Tratcher, if I have a memory, which I do have, Ryder locked the aircraft, so who else could have open it, that's roight, the locker picker in our team." he got serious, but still maintaining his chill.
"I was with you the whole time ! I couldn't have done it!" she defended herself, one of her two pink ribbons was lopsided, one single curly hair, once perfect like the others, now was spiked.
"Although I hate her, from the bottom of my guts!" Karen closed her eyes and inhaled, "She has a valid point, unless the black sheep over here can occupy two places at the same time, then she is telling the truth." she spit a furball, as she was finishing her defence.
"Can we stop this meeting! I'm losing brain cells! Please tell me this is a weird dream! Sacrebleu!" Tratcher had her face in the pillows, now with more out of the place furs going in every direction.
"Since the door has no damage marks or anything else that'a would indicate a force entry and Tratcher's alibi being backed-up by Karen, there'a leaves two explanations either someone stole Ryder's tablet or there'sa someone else who can open this door without needing to'a break in or'a have the tablet, but both lead to the same path, they both indicate that'a there is'a dangerous and crazy individual that'a doesn't like robots. Or maybe it'a had a motive." Caesar finished his theory, getting completely ignored, "Oh! Popcorn!" he got up and lifted his sit, taking one of many popcorn buckets out of the inside of the sofa, "Looks like they are ignoring us, so popcorn?" he nodded, at his own question to himself.
While Tratcher, Lucio and Archy were still arguing and Caesar was munching on popcorn, Buddy and Karen walked outside.
"I'm going to put him in bed."
"I'm going to get a drink. You wanna come? After this, we deserve it!" they walked to the castle together.
"Suwe thing!"
They stopped at the door, "I'm still thinking what was the second thing that Lucio asked me." he scratched his ear, with extreme careful to not wake up the kid.
"Ya shouldn't worry about much! But, ya know what ya should do?!" she placed her paw in his shoulder.
"What?"
"Tell me, what we are doing here!"
"I can't! Lucio would be mad!"
"And that's the second thing, lad! Now since I helped ya out, now ya have to help me. Pretty please!" she made kitty eyes.
"Fine, I'll tell you, but fiwst, the child." Budy adjusted his back to prevent the sleeping child from accidentally slipping.
"Yeah, yeah! I'll be here waiting for ya!"
Once in Alex's bedroom, he was gently placed in bed and the sheets were grabbed by the St. Bernard's mouth and placed to the bottom of his feet, now without his shoes, to the top of his neck.
"Sleep well!" he whispered.
"Thanks for bringing him in. I knew he was in good paws." Mr. Porter exited the bathroom and lean on the door frame.
"It was nothing! Befowe I leave, and time is it?"
Mr. Porter looked at the clock in the wall, on the other side of the room, "Ten o'clock!"
"I thought it was mowe late than that!" Budy drooled a little.
"No, today is the first day of the the moon festival, it's the celebration of the blue moon, on the first day the moon goes to its highest position, around half past ten, on the second day it's bigger than ever before, it gets a lot closer to Earth, making it look bigger then usual and finally the third day, the moon gains a mysterious blue glow, that can change certain creatures behaviours, and according to the legends they say that there is a dog breed, that once exposed to the blue glow of the moon it transforms into a weredog, I know these may sound crazy, but it's the truth."
"How do you know that?" he tilted his head, scratching the surface of his neck.
"It's on the calendar, all of this!" he pointed to the calendar, also across the room.
"That's a bit weiwd!"
"Yes it is, but I just accepted that information."
"So goodnight, Mr. Porter!"
"Goodnight, Budy! Before you go, today the kids didn't went a lot for the sugar, which means tomorrow they'll be running on Duracell batteries. Can you keep an eye on them?" he sit down in a chair, with a book in his hands, he turned on the presence light.
"Suwe!"
"Good!" he started reading the book, Budy exited the room.
"Something isn't clicking." he was confused, how can it be? The time wasn't right.
At Sweetie's dog house*
"I didn't know that she had a door!" Skye was surprised, "Neither did I!" the Princess shared the same emotion. They were both staring at a pink metal door on what was once the entrance of her dog house.
"This must be new." Chase looked at the structure for the top to the bottom, "It wasn't here when we first tried to talk with her."
"Let's just get this done." Rocky got closer and knocked on the door, "Sweetie, open up! It's us."
"I can see that. But seriously, the Princess?! How did you goof up this bad?"
"The troubles just went on our direction, so what do you want?!" Skye shouted, she looked at the camera, above the door, almost perfectly camouflage, "Can you open the door please?"
"Of course, but with one condition!"
"Of course you have one." Skye exhaled, giving a little laugh.
"Rocky has to say that I'm pretty."
"WHAT!?" he screamed, "There's no way I'm saying THAT!"
"You have too!" she sanged.
"Forget it!"
"I'm afraid not! Do it!"
"And satisfy your ego! I think not! I choose the second option. RUFF! Claw!" the recycling pup dig a hole and tried to get his claw and his own claws beneath the ground and the door.
"There is no second option. Wait, what do you think you're doing?"
Rocky slipped the tip of his right paw middle claw through the door, lifted it by just enough to get one of the sides of his instrumental claw and with a great effort he managed to open it up, "You were saying!?" he gave a triumphant smile to the camera, placing the claw that was slipped right on it.
"Congratulations, you open a door that was build, in only two days. It was rushed! It's not a major feat! I'm opening the underground mode."
"I'll take it either way, wait underground what?..." the darkness opened beneath their feet and paws, projecting them into an abismal descent.
"I KNEW WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TRUST HER!" Chase screamed as the hole begin to shut, engulf them whole
Back into the Air Patroller*
"There we go again, with the talk that Tratcher is not trust worthy! I am, did I ever steal you something?"
"No, but there have been important stuff desapearing from our ship. How do you explain that?" Archie pointed out.
"If it isn't stuff from Karen, then it was not me!" she shrugged her shoulders.
"That doesn't make innocent, you know!"
"It also doesn't make me guilty, you idiot!"
"Calm down! We haven't even finished our meeting." Lucio was trying to get their attention back, "¡Maldita sea!"
Caesar was laying on the other couch, eating popcorn, "So you think we can get their attention?" he had a deep tone while talking, "Nah, if even Lucio isn't making it, then we got'a no shot." his normal voice returned.
"I guess you are right! This team is'a falling apart! Yeah, you are correct. At least, I got'a you bro. Oh, bro!" the deep and the normal voice were talkingvto each other, like they were two different beings.
"If you lost something, it doesn't always mean that someone stole it, maybe you just lost it, it's that so hard for you to put on your mind?! I don't think so!"
"Everyone knows that I'm the third most organized member of the team, only behind Budy and Salty."
"No you are not. I am the second one, Salty comes in third and you are like the fourth one."
"Nah, you're capping mate."
"I'm not capping, and don't call me mate!"
"It works on everything, mate doesn't have gender, species or life. So I can call mate to everyone and everything, and you can't stop me, mate!" he chuckled.
"This has been going on for long enough! Can't you two call it truces?" Lucio was done with their waste of time.
It isn't a lot effective!
"Even if they'a stop, Karen and Budy are long gone! Should we tell them? And'a not enjoying more popcorn? You convinced me!" he returned to the bucket, "Do you think they are having a better time than us? Probably, the only thing keeping us here it's the popcorn. Besides there is still plenty of time."
Back to the royal canine place*
Rocky was the first to reach the bottom, when he opened his eyes he realized that he was standing on a huge pink inflatable mattress with Sweetie's face sprawled out, right in the middle, "Of course it has her face."
The moment he stopped boucing, was also the moment of the arrival of the others, four times they bounced, five times they touched the inflatable device.
"She really did it! I told her that she was joking, but apparently not! Finally, she carry out her promise." Salty looked around, still in the pile, she was ablazed.
"What? She doesn't perform promises?" Marshall asked, upside down, not able to move, with each paw pointing a different direction.
"Only threats."
"I guess, that counts." he got slightly uncomfortable.
"Alright, let's get everything on the right trails." the Princess got out of the pile, she arranged her tiara, "How did Sweetie build all of this?"
"There was that time when she calmed down, for months there wasn't a single attempt pf stealing the crown." Skye was at the top of the pile, due to her small size, standing up.
"So you want to hear the story or not?" Sweetie appeared from the left.
"Hold on! First we would like to ask you some questions." Chase requested.
"You are not in position to demand anything for me! Understood, you scaramouch!" she let out a evil laugh, a little not to evil laugh.
"Don't you dare laugh at me!"
"In that state? I don't think there's nothing stopping me from doing it!" she smiled, very amused.
"She's got a point Chase." Rubble got out of the mess.
"Do not encourage her!"
Once everyone left the pile, they discovered a crushed Rocky, "Is he, good?" Quest asked.
"I'll handle this." Sweetie approached and threw Busby, nailing Rocky right on the head, "Ouch! What was that for?" he lifted his head.
"Good his alive. Now we can carry on." she turned her back to them and walked to a big screen, similar to the Paw Patrol's one.
"Wait where is Cali?" Katie looked around for her pet.
"MEEEEOOOOWW!" was the confirmation that she was still falling. Like every good cat, Cali was going to land on her feet, which put her in collision course with the still sore mix-breed pup.
"AAAAGH!" Cali jumped of the pup, but she rubbed her head on him to show compassion or marking territory, one of these.
"I hope she didn't stabbed my mattress!" Sweetie was worried.
"Fix your priorities!" Salty shook her head, "They are all messed up!"
"My top priorities are the correct ones."
Everest smiled, "She is right. By being worried that Cali might have had puncture the inflatable, she's showing her concern about Rocky."
Everyone turned at her, "How is that even possible?" to Chase that whole talk was labyrinthine.
"Finally! Something that I actually agree with you has come out of your mouth." Sweetie was trying to lock eyes with Everest, with a wrathful stare, but each time their views clashed, the snow pup seemed to be unaffected by the royal pup's death stare.
"Since when does she care for the others? She can't see past her own ego and her mirror!"
"Never mind!" she rolled her eyes, "And if I ever was worried about somepup, Rocky wouldn't be on top of my list. Angh..." once she looked eyes with Everest again, she was left speechless. The husky was looking at her, square in the eyes, her expression was still friendly, but sassy, Sweetie felt like she was looking directly at her soul.
"You either are concerned about the possibility that the mattress might deflate and that would cause more pain to Rocky, or you are truly concerned about Rocky, and you used the mattress has an excuse, because you don't want to admit that there's a place for him in your conscience. But, you know each one is the right one, so chill, I'm not being serious. So you don't have to be!" she giggled.
"You're thinking to much. Moving on, I think the least I could do, is to explain what's going on."
"Pretty much!"
"Who are you?"
"I'm Quest."
"Skye, how did she find out?" she turned to the cockapoo.
"She kinda, just came along!" her voice pitched at the end.
"Seriously?! You just let a stranger in! Does she know about the story? This can't get any worse." Sweetie's back left leg was twitching.
"Well...! Actually!"
"Marshall! Don't!" Skye shut him promptly.
"I can see it's worst. No need to tell me."
"Alex, also knows." Rocky was now getting up, still shaking.
"Who?"
"The kid, a little bit reckless and little annoying."
"That's the description of literary every single kid."
"Fine, you are not wrong, but he also knows, he's asleep now! Probably." Rocky scratched his head, if Skye's stare could kill then Rocky would be dead twice!
"You're making me waste time! Now shut up and listen to us!" she screamed, pressing Busby's head, projecting a hologram, "Skye, step forward! Sis, come to my side!"
"Hold up! Sis?!" Chase was shocked.
"Ah cwap!"
"You lost! You'll pay me once this ends." Rocky smiled, beating Zuma on a bet was difficult, due to the pup's street knowledge.
"Yes! Can you hurry up Rocky? Come here, so I don't have to yell!" she was impatient.
"Just a moment, you impatient brat." he screamed back, waking up from his victory thoughts.
"Now, now! There's no need to such hostility." the Princess gestured, in a effort to calm.
Rocky walked to the group, with some difficulty, "Happy?" he sat between Rubble and Zuma.
"Yes, pretty much!"
"Where you the one that sent the invite to the party to the Bone Crushers, or not?" Chase asked immediately.
"Questions are for later!"
"No, I have to know, NOW!" Chase slammed his paw on the ground.
"I make the rules here! You have no authority in here!" she posed to show off.
"But..."
"No buts!"
"It's a shame!" Everest made a dramatic pose, "I wanted to know who was going to be embarrassed!"
Sweetie took the bait, "Embarrassed?"
"No, no forget it! You wouldn't want to be the one causing embarrassment to Chase!" Skye was holding her laughter, Tracker and Quest were laughing, trying to muffle their sound, Chase and Zuma were, quietly, staring at Sweetie, while the rest were giving confused looks to each other, "Or Zuma, who knows?"
"Ok, maybe just one but. Nothing stupid and it has to be directed to one of us and only one per mouth."
"One of you will thank me later!" Everest whispered, to the two pups.
"Yes or no?"
"Chase, I didn't do it! It wasn't me, can you get that inside your dense head?"
"I'm not letting you slide that easily." he shook his head negatively.
Sweetie shrugged off,"Tsk, tsk, tsk I don't even like the Bone Crushers. Why do you think I went all the to Adventure Bay to warn Skye! And if you're finished I can explain."
"You went here!? Rocky!" he turned, violently, to the breed mix pup.
"If you have something to say, say it to Skye's face. I feel like everything in me is broken! So give me a break!" he growled, in return.
"Skye?" his tone was softer, "Is she serious?"
"Yes! I know it all can sound has a nuisance, but it's the truth." she was avoiding making eye contact with the shepherd.
"Is everyone done?"
"I haven't finished yet! If you say that you hate the Bone Crushers, then why is your sister part of them?" Chase approached the white pup.
Sweetie took a step forward to, but was interrupted by Salty, pushing her out of the way, "I got this! I know how to defend myself." she smiled, that caught the police pup off guard, what does she know? She already had got him in a verbal battle earlier, he wouldn't let that happen twice.
"You are going to talk or what?" she was still smiling, he was looking for any signs that would indicate any kind of nervousness or insecurity, but he didn't find any.
"One of us had to stay! It was the only way."
"The only way to what?"
"Skye, finish this for me. It's clear that he hasn't understand yet our situation, especially yours!" Salty shook her head, she was feeling a bit disappointed for the shepherd's lack of confidence on them.
"Chase, if you let us start the explanation, I can guaranty to you that every answer you have will be answered. For now, please, just trust us!"
Zuma raised his paw.
"Yes?" Sweetie was done with the questions, even if there was only one.
"Did you installed a camewa to spy on us?" Zuma knew it was about to hit her hard.
She falter, "No... Well!"
"We awe waiting!" Zuma looked at Chase with a smirk the water lab knew she wasn't ready for this question.
"Thanks, Zuma, but how did you know?"
"You'we not the only one that pays attention, and besides you talked about it!"
"I whispered to myself how did you?..." he looked at the jungle pup.
"It might have been me who heard you, and told everyone else!" Tracker gave out a little nervous laugh, lowering his ears.
"You didn't told me!" Marshall joined the talk.
"Marshall you're the worst of us when it comes to secrets!"
"I see your point, but you choose to trust a pup that you met a hour ago over me! No offense." he looked at the border collie that was sitting next to Tracker.
"No grudges. It's fine." she was chilled, taking no offense by Marshall's comment.
"Skye trusted me to keep the secret that her, Sweetie and Salty were saved by Budy when they were little, so yes! You can trust me with secrets! Oh, wait!" he had now realized is mistake.
Skye took her paw to her face, in an embarrasse sign, Salty nibble her lip, the rest of them were silent.
"Skye?" Sweetie turned to the cockapoo, "WHY DO YOU SURROUND YOURSELF WITH IDIOTS!?"
"Friends! And we were going to tell them that either way! But first answer Zuma's question, no lies!" she put on her serious look.
"Fine that one was on me!" she was annoyed, her ears were down and she doubled the number of eye rolls that she usually did in a minute.
"And what about that ones in the base?" Chase nailed on more time.
Sweetie quickly looked at Rocky, the pup was scratching his hear, not because of the flies, but because he was nervous, this was one way for him to not be called out. The royal canine was pondering her choices, she could simply sell him out or she could cover for him. But, why was she thinking that? Rocky wasn't important for her, and yet there was a voice, the tiny voice of her conscious, that was telling her to choose the right option, she tremble when she reconnect with her conscious, there had been years since it was needed. She decided to go with the third option, she didn't want to get more trouble for herself, and Rocky didn't deserve more pain, so she would blame another pup or person.
"I don't know, those aren't mine, but they could be Ryder's or someone else's." Rocky stopped scratching, did she just, protect him?
"So they are not yours?" Marshall asked.
"Yes, do you got wax in your ears? I wish they were mine, in fact it wouldn't be a bad idea to install cameras there. I'll do it later."
"Sweetie, that's a bit evil for you, isn't my precious poochie!" the Princess talk her out.
"Fine. Scratch that." Rocky scratched himself now, because of the flies.
"So are you going to keep playing in snow, or are we going to finally build a snowman." Everest was impatient, she wanted to know more about her friends past.
"Uhmmm... Sure?" Sweetie was a little bit confused.
"Does build snowman mean you want to hear the story?" Salty guessed.
"Yup!"
"Nice catchphrase."
"Thanks! I've been working on multiple ones! Now can you, please, start talking?"
"Well, I guess we own you that much." Skye cleared her throat, "If you want to back down, now it's your last chance!" silence
"Very well, it all began here in BarkingBurg. In a large, pink mansion, it belonged to my parents owners. I was born in there, as a only pup, my brothers and sisters didn't even had a chance!" a single tear rolled down her eye.
"Isn't that the old Gust's mansion? Now it's just ruins." the Princess pointed out, while wiping her tiara.
"Yes, that one. My owners were very kind people, they adopted a family of dogs living on the streets."
"Our family!" Sweetie stand up, shocking everyone.
"Hold on! Pause, pause!" Rubble moved around his front paws, in the air in front of him, "Sweetie, you are telling us, to everyone that is here present, that your family was poor and lived on the street? You, the royal dog, the pet of the Princess of BarkingBurg, the most pretentious pup I have ever meet! Are you serious? I know what it's like to have no home, to spend days without eating, but you? You don't even like dog food!" Rubble wasn't buying it.
"Time changes, pups change with it! When me and my sister were born, our parents weren't adopted yet, that only happened a few moths later." Sweetie gave an intimidating look at the bulldog, resulting on him to wiper.
"Our parents saved their six years old daughter, something involving a hole or anything of that sort. We all spent two years living there, we treated each other like sisters, on our own definition of sisters!" Salty looked at Sweetie, implying that this was due to her, "We got a good life, due to the fact that Skye's parents were rescue dogs we learned some of the basics, how to pilot a flying vehicle, mechanic, surviving techniques, first aid and analyzing situations to see what was the safest way to act in a dangerous scenario." Salty had her eyes closed while she was monologuing, she open them up, only dumbfounded stares were there to meet her.
"Dos?"
"How is that even possible?"
"You' pawents awe awesome!"
"That explains a lot, I think?"
"Did you also had to look for food in the middle of a snowstorm, for days? No?! Well I guess that's just me."
"Everest, we are suppose to be the cool ones, so stop making us sound less awesome."
"Sorry!"
"But, you didn't train for two years straight, right?"
"What do you think Sherlock? I thought you were smarter!"
"What, Sweetie, is trying to say, Rocky, is that we got classes for a year and a quarter."
"Even so that's a lot!"
"Skye, is this going where I think it is?"
"I need a moment to digest this!"
"Phew, that's sounds really good! I wish I had sisters, or brothers to play!"
"What happen to the house? If it's in ruins, where are your owners? How does this end?"
"If you now first aid, then what should you do in case of an insolation?"
"Move the person to a fresher place, remove unnecessary objects and pieces of clothing, keep the person awake and her/his head elevated, apply a soaked cold towels on her forehead and crotch, spray water on the skin. Another procedure would be a immersion bath with cold water." Salty finished, triumphantly.
"Everything checks out."
"Meow!"
Skye remain silent, her vision became blurry, the sounds around her were being muffle by the ones in her mind, her breath was trembling and started to get heavier, a wall of blazing flames rose from the ground, it gained the appearance a giant eagle and dived towards her, claws pointed right at her. It opened it's beak, but the cry wasn't the one of an eagle or any other bird, it was a scream of terror; but as the burning bird was approaching the scream was losing sonority; giving is place to a laugh, a long, spaced, evil laugh, it landed in front of the pilot pup, engulfing her with the look of fire coming of it's eyes, "Skye, Skye, Skye!" the fenix talked in a feminine tone, "You are useless, you can't even help yourself, you know what is going to happen to your friends, don't you?" Skye remained motionless, "This job is too big for them, Skye, Skye, SKYE?"
The flames extinguished into ash, gaining the shape and colors of Chase, "Skye, can you hear me?"
"Yes... I can."
"Are you alright?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
"But, you were..."
"I SAID I'M FINE!" Skye screamed, scaring everyone.
"This is what I feared that was going to happen!" Salty placed her head against Skye's, to help her support the pain.
"What happen to her?" Chase tried to approach closer, but was blocked by the Dalmatian, "Chase it's better to give her some space."
"I want to help!" his eyes were wet.
"I know you want to, just hear me first, whatever happen to them gave Skye a deep trauma, in this situations it's best to give time before trying to help, you rushing to help, will only aggravate the situation! Doctor's orders!" although he was usually a clumsy and playful pup, when there were others in danger or if he was encouraged, just the right amount, by his friends, he would become the most focused and serious member of the Paw Patrol.
The shepherd obeyed, knowing that Marshall was the authority in cases like this.
Sweetie, Salty and Skye were talking amongst each other, Skye was still visibly shaken up about the traumatic experience, the rest of them were waiting for their input, Chase was getting agitated, "Can I go just ask them what happens now?"
"It shouldn't be a problem. Go on." Marshall gave him the green light.
"Wait, Chase, don't do it!" Rocky tried to warn him, but the spy pup was already arranging his own tomb.
"Excuse me, but what do we do now?"
"Shut it!" the sisters replied, hammering the pup together.
He backed off, a little shocked, "I tried to warn you!"
"Now we are just here, doing nothing, but standing around like a bunch of useless things!"
"Fiwst time pawtne'?" Zuma looked at Chase, with a look of a veteran looking at a newbie.
"You are the expert on this so what should we do?" Chase was not amused by the Labrador's sense of humour.
"Nowmally, we could play a game, but I don't think anyone is in the mood for games!" silent yups and yeahs confirming it, proved the water dog's point.
"Isn't there any other dog that might tell us the story?" Everest managed to approach the trio without getting kicked out.
"No!" Sweetie cut the conversation short.
"Sweetie!" Salty scolded her, "Stop with the lies, they won't help you anymore. This is the end of the line!"
Sweetie grumble, she walked away to the computer in the back and sit there.
"So, there is a other dog that knows."
Salty nodded, "But he can't come to us, so we have to go there meet him in dog."
The others caught up with the talk, thanks, once again, to Tracker's fantastic hearing, "Where?" Katie asked, while holding Cali.
"The O'Brien Card!" Skye lifted her head, looking at everyone in front of her, no one seemed to notice that her eyes were shinning, not a shine of happiness, but a real shine, a pink shiny shine, making her irises even pinkier, on the border of red.
"What and where is that?" the Princess didn't have any reference to a place with that name.
"We still have time to explain on the way there." she looked at the royal pup, still on her fit, "Sweetie, please, take us there!" she looked at the ceiling, "And you, please, take us yesterday!"
