"It seems the email approach worked out well for you."

Trina Robinson was walking on air. Every cell in her body was bursting at the seams with a reserved happiness. Dr. Collins matched her grin, seated across from her at his desk.

"Does it show?" she beamed.

"It does. You seem much happier and relaxed compared to your first appointment with me."

"Well, a lot has changed since then."

"I know that quite well," Dr. Collins beamed, "When you came in all those months ago, you carried a number of heavy things on your shoulders, from your mom to your friends to your ex. Now, you're practically weightless. Look how far you've come."

"It's definitely…surreal. Sometimes I go back and read the emails, just to see where I was at the time I wrote it compared to where I am now. It's only been half-a-year, if that, but I feel like it's been longer."

"How do you feel when you reread those emails?"

"I…" Trina took a deep breath, "I'm blown away. Each email is like a snapshot of what I used to feel and who I used to be, the people I used to mix with, or now started to mix with. There's just…so much there."

"Well, so much has happened," Dr. Collins pointed out, "I know you've talked about these things in our sessions, but I want to revisit them. There were four main issues that you talked about in our first meeting: your mom, your friends, your then-boyfriend, and your now-boyfriend. Which do you want to start with?"

"My now-boyfriend."

"How's that going? I'm asking as both your therapist…and his grandfather."

"It's going well," Trina giggled, "Things with Spencer are fantastic. Ever since we reconnected, it's been an endless honeymoon."

"Did you ever expect to reconnect with Spencer on an intimate level?"

"I'm not sure, to be honest. I know that, when we first met, we were getting close and the lines got blurred. Finding out about Esme completely blindsided me, and when she showed herself, this…switch flipped inside of him and the guy I was getting to know, 'Victor,' flat-out stopped existing."

"And that broke your heart."

"It broke my heart, it frustrated me, it was all so upsetting. He was getting so close with me until his girlfriend entered the picture, and she and I are two different people. She has different interests, different goals, different looks. Seeing the kind of woman Esme was…I just had to question a lot with Spencer. Maybe I should've felt a bit complimented that he was into me, considering how Esme looks nothing like me, but the fact that he did what he did soured so much between us."

"Until it stopped being that way."

"Right. Once we reconnected without the 'Esme' in the room, everything was just…good. We didn't have any major conflicts, there were no big bumps in the road, everything between us was…perfect. I'd argue it still kind of is, even if the initial bliss and novelty has worn off."

"That's good," Dr. Collins nodded, "I'm glad Spencer is being the kind of man we both know he can be, and the kind of man you deserve."

"Me too. I wish the same could be said about my friends…one of them at least."

"Things haven't improved with Josslyn?"

"There is no 'thing' with Josslyn. We're not friends anymore."

"How come?"

"She was just behaving in a way I wasn't okay with. I mean, she dumped Cam for a guy that's dating her stepsister. When she realized she wasn't getting what she wanted, she acted like a bitch. It was already pretty tense when she'd complain about her love life, but when she turned her anger on me, that was it. I was being reasonable and grounded, and she didn't like that I wasn't marching in lockstep with her."

"Have there been any reconciliation attempts?"

"She's tried to reach out a few times, and for the most part, I've ignored them. I don't want a friend who behaves the way she does, and I should've recognized how often she gets that way even before the fallout. Either way, I'm glad things have ended and I feel pretty light."

"I see. Can the same be said in regards to your mom? I know we've talked about you two reconciling-"

"Sort of? I mean, I was pissed when I found out about the secret, and back then, a small part of me wanted to believe her excuses and lies because she's my mom and I love her…but I didn't. I've let her back in after some time apart, and so far, so good. She's really trying to make up for her lies now, and I'm glad she is."

"You also talked about her breaking a boundary. How did that affect this reunion?"

"Well, when she did it, it made me angry. She gave me all these excuses and commands and 'I am your mother' comments and it was just annoying. She really wanted to try and…control the circumstances, I guess. I'm glad she didn't try that again, and that allowed our reunion to go pretty smoothly."

"I'm glad. Are you and your mom still a work in progress?"

"We are, and of all the people to be in that position, I'm glad it's her."

"Is there someone you wouldn't want there?"

"...Rory."

"How so?"

"Our breakup was…super ugly. He made some comments that were hurtful, and it was just a mess. We haven't spoken since then, and I don't think we ever will."

"What happened?"

"Well…I told him that things weren't working out, that it wasn't him, it was me, which I really shouldn't have said. He just lashed out about me being 'mature' and how he didn't deserve it because he's such a 'nice guy.' It was just…nasty."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't apologize. I did him wrong, I know that, and while I deserved getting called out for it, I didn't deserve everything after."

"I agree. Would you want to have Rory in your life in the future?"

"I mean…I did before, when I decided to break up with him, but after what he said…I just want closure, I want a real apology for all of it."

"I hope you can get that someday."

"Me too. For now, though, I'm happy. My family is healing, I'm in a great relationship, my friend circle and those close by is healthy and fun. Everything's pretty good now."

"And I, for one, am happy that it is," Dr. Collins stood up, "Unfortunately, I think our time is up."

"Thanks for agreeing to see me, Dr. Collins," Trina got to her feet, shaking his hand, "and thank you for all of your help these past few months."

"Just doing my job, and it was my pleasure," Dr. Collins guided her to the door, "Now if you excuse me, I have a wife to meet for dinner."

"Small world! I have a boyfriend and an extended family of his to meet for dinner too."

"Then we should get going, huh?"

The pair stepped out onto the main floor, walking towards the elevator with grins on their faces. While inside, Trina felt her phone vibrate in her back pocket, and the widest smile appeared on her face when she saw the message that appeared on her lock screen.

From: Spencer (3:50 PM)
I heard you're with my grandfather; I hope all is well. Have anything to tell me?

A/N: And with that, this story has come to a close. A huge thank you to everyone who read/liked/reviewed - it means the world! I plan to have more Sprina content coming out in the not-so-distant future, but for now, I have another endeavor to pursue in the name of the better mob-story couple, so keep your eyes peeled for "Stars Crossed Right," starting next Friday!
