(Part 5)
The Romulan vessel 'Vaak-Straya' had two small shuttle type craft. The captain asked the two Orion scientists to accompany him down
to the planet surface in one. Also coming, two of the sentry guardsmen from the crew: one Romulan, the other a Klingon. For Klingons
were well-regarded as some of the fiercest warriors in all the galaxy. Good to have close by, when exploring an unknown world? Yes!
"You have the Bridge... We shall be back... Soon!" said the captain to his 'seconds' in command... He had three: A Romulan, a Klingon,
and an Orion male. All very able to handle any emergency? Yes. But if all went well, they would not have their talents put to the 'Test'.
###
The Enterprise quickly got to the Thresher, whose silent emergency beacon had been activated upon the ship being 'Dead in the Water'...
so, to speak... Not moving on or in the water, or out in deep distant space is not a fun spot to ever be stuck alone in? Nope. Not for a second.
Pike beamed over... with Mr. Spock. Number One had the bridge of his ship, as he soon appeared on the Thresher... He was greeted by the big
happy grin of Captain Jenkins. And a hearty handshake as well. "Thank-You! Captain Pike... You're all that my father used to tell me about!"
Pike broke out in an equally huge, happy grin now as well. Captain Jenkins looked like a much younger version of Admiral 'Harry' Jenkins.
"I owed your father a favor or two... Just glad we got here fast as we did. Have you any idea where the Romulan ship you were following is
headed to? Once we got thru Angels Gate, we lost all energy readings on them..." The look on Jenkins face turned to a frown, his smile now
turning upside-down? "No sir... Our sensors were knocked out, after we crossed thru the wormhole... And we lost most of our Di-Lithium
Crystals as well... We got stuck like the proverbial stick-in-the-mud. Though we do have a small, very ancient Space Legend in mind.
One of my crew recalled hearing it once, from an old-timer of an explorer... Chris, have you heard of 'Ubikaya': The Eternal Planet?"
Pike responded with a look of surprise... "You mean... That old space myth story... Might be True? I read of it, but it seemed like
science fiction or a modern fantasy type of thing!" The two captains then went to share a bit of Irish whisky in Jenkins' quarters.
They talked for a while... And put their two ships Engineering staff to fast work, to get Thresher back up to old 'Bristol Fashion'.
