Volume 4 Chapter 18: Inside the Wily Star (Part 3 of 4)
Meanwhile with Team CBWW
"Uh, you're joking, you're joking right?" Asked Coco at the sight in front of her, as the group had immediately entered a large empty room after walking through the door and ending up in a long hallway before ending up here. Where upon entering the room they were met with Gemini Man, who instantly brought out multiple clones and gave a cocky smirk towards the foursome.
"Blake, did Rock ever say anything about a robot that could clone itself?" Asked Sun.
"He didn't, though a warning would have been nice." Replied Blake, with a hint of annoyance in her voice.
"Tch, he only cloned himself about ten times, nothing we can't handle." Said Cardin, to which Gemini Man smirked and created more clones of himself until there were several hundred versions of the robot standing in the room.
Coco lowered her sunglasses as she and the others looked at the army of robots in shock, as the army of Gemini Man said in the same monotone tone of voice "Try to beat us."
"You! You!" Coco shrieked as she began to smack Cardin on the back of the head "Gigantic, brainless, moron! You had just had to jinx it. I had expected this sort of stuff from Sun, but you, you should have at least used your brain!" Coco wanted to continue, only for Blake to put her blade between Coco and the boys.
"Ok, that's enough..."
"Excuse, hey, giant army of robots here. We're kind of itching for a fight with you four right now, is this needed?" Asked the army of Gemini Men.
"...We'll get to you in a second!" Blake snapped at the army with a glare, silencing the robots. "Now, you can be as mad as you want at them but that doesn't excuse all of this. Besides, you might want to act all high and mighty, but you aren't perfect either."
Coco let out a loud sigh through her nose and said "Fine, we'll deal with this."
"Good, and then whatever issues you might have can be dealt with."
"Can't believe you're excus..." Coco was about to say, only to be interrupted by Blake.
"I'm not, but you need to be the bigger person right now. Is that clear?" Asked Blake to which Coco nodded, as she then turned to the army of Gemini Men and said "We're ready for you now."
"About time." They replied.
Cloning Gone Crazy - Gemini Men
The giant army of Gemini Men immediately charged at the group, with the robots in the front row firing lasers from their arm cannons, forcing Blake to use her shadow clones to dodge out of the way, after which she used the blur of clones to get closer to a group of robots and used the acid barrier imbued with her blades to begin slashing her way through a small horde of robots. While still making sure to get out of dodge as the robots kept firing lasers from their arm canons, but in their stupidity some of the robots ended up hitting some of the other clones with the lasers.
In the meantime, Cardin had put up a barrier of sand around him and Sun, who had begun balancing himself on his tail and began to send out an army of his own clones which had been infused with water through the power of the water shield, and began to fight against the army of Gemini Man clones. And while Cardin was keeping up the sand barrier, which managed to impale some of the robot clones when they tried to run into the wall only for spikes to appear, Cardin asked Sun "You doing ok?"
"Yeah, don't worry, as long as I'm concentrating I should be able to keep this up." Replied Sun, to which Cardin nodded as he kept the sand barrier up with one hand and then slammed his mace into the ground which created an ice wave of icicles that spread across the floor and managed to impale a good portion of the robot clones unfortunate enough to get caught by it. Cardin then picked up a small vial from his belt and threw it onto the ground, which scattered sand everywhere and allowed Cardin to put the robots that were caught in the sand in a small tomb that ended up crushing them together.
Blake, having managed to continue to fight her way through a horde of clones, had gotten into a bit of a rough spot and had gotten hit by one of the lasers. Which took a huge chunk of her energy away, and left her in a prime position to get bombarded with lasers, only for her to get saved by Coco who used her minigun to mow down the robot clones with the bullets that were fired from it, before taking out a large chunk of the clones with several flash bombs that were fired from her minigun.
"Thanks." Blake said, as she got back on her feet and started to slash through more robots that had surrounded the two of them. To which Coco said, while continuing to fire her minigun "Don't mention it, just know that even if we disagree I still have your back. Think you can have mine?" As Blake then took out several clones that were about to ambush Coco from behind. "Does that answer your question?" Blake asked, to which Coco nodded. "Good."
Coco was then forced shift her minigun back into it's bag form and began to beat up several incoming clones with it, while at the same time throwing out some more flash bombs that blew up more incoming robots. She then performed several backflips as she was forced to dodge more incoming lasers from the robots, as while she was dodging she managed to find an opening, threw out several spread drills. But was then surprised by a punch to the face by one of the robots and found herself with her back to Blake.
The two were then about to be attacked by a large group of clones who had gotten the drop on the two of them and were about to fire their lasers at them, only for an army of Sun's clones to intercept them and explode in large bursts of water, after which sand began to form underneath their feat and the duo was pulled towards Cardin's sand barrier, which then closed behind them, as they were met with Cardin and Sun who were beginning to look just as exhausted as Coco and Blake.
"No matter how many we take down, these things keep coming." Said Cardin, as the group heard more of the clones crash into the barrier around them.
"Maybe we're going about this the wrong way, maybe instead of taking all of them down, we need to take out the original." Said Sun, as he poked his staff through an opening in the barrier and fired several homing missiles out of the barrier and into more of the clones.
"If only we knew which one the original was..." Said Blake, as she took a peak out of the barrier and quickly noticed a Gemini Man who was busy splitting into more versions of itself. "...And it seems I might have found him. Think you guys can give me some cover while I make my way over to the original."
"Sure thing." Said Cardin, as the other two nodded. Then after a few seconds Blake nodded as well as a signal, and Cardin lowered the barrier, where the group began to get ambushed by more robots, as both Cardin and Sun began to rush forward into the horde of robots, using their weapons to fight their way through the horde, while in the meantime Coco began to use her minigun to mow down more robots, with the actions of the trio creating enough of an opening for Blake to begin fighting her way through.
With Blake who was using her using blade to first shoot out several bounce balls that destroyed more robots in front of her after which she switched to the acid barrier and began to slash through wave after wave of robot, which happened a lot faster now that she had help from the rest of the group. She was forced to dodge out of the way a few times, as lasers were continued to be fired at her, until she had managed to reach the original Gemini Man and slashed at him with her acid infused blade.
This managed to catch the robot off guard, as it lead to him finally stopping to create more clones and instead focused his attention towards Blake and tried to hit her with a massive laser from his arm canon only for it to be sliced off by Blake. Gemini Man then tried to punch her in the face, which didn't work as she caught his fist, and before he could create any more clones, Blake threw the robot off of her and delivered several slashes to the robot, after which the robot exploded. This left behind a memory, and creating a chain reaction that caused all of the other clones to explode, creating as massive heap of robot parts in the room.
Blake began to make her way through all the robot parts, until she eventually met up with the rest of the group and asked "You guys won't mind me taking this right?" To which the rest of the group shook their heads, after which Blake took the memory chip and got the message on her scroll "Gemini Laser Obtained." "Wait, what?" Blake wondered, as she switched to the weapon and used it, and instead of it creating a clone of her like she had hoped due to the battle, a laser was fired from her pistol that managed to bounce off the wall.
"Blake, you alright?" Asked Sun, as he noticed the annoyed look on Blake's face.
"I'm fine, just kind of annoyed that we fought a robot that can clone itself, and all I got was a laser. Would anyone like to take this thing off of me?" Asked Blake.
"No I'm good."
"No take backs."
"You wanted it, you're keeping it."
"Fine." Blake said, as she sighed, before turning to Coco, Cardin and Sun "Now, I can't believe I'm being the adult here, I guess this is how Weiss feels at times, but you three have some talking to do."
"Good, because I've been feeling you glare at me through your sunglasses Coco." Said Cardin addressing the older student.
"Well, I'm sure you know why." Replied Coco with a hint of bitterness in her voice.
"You do know we are trying to do better, right. Our entire team is trying to do better, we're actively trying to get our acts together, to do better, to not be the most hated team at Beacon!" Cardin exclaimed with frustration in his voice.
"Oh, so only to no longer be the most hated team at Beacon, and nothing else, huh?"
"You're going there, you're really going there! You're really going to focus on that part, and only that part!" Yelled Cardin, as he turned his back to Coco and said "I see it now, you're just as bad as I am."
"What!" Coco exclaimed, looking like she was ready to hit him.
"Guys let's not go too far..." Sun said, getting ready to step in, only for him to be stopped by Blake who shook her head.
"You heard me, you may act all high and mighty and like you're all good, but you're just as bad as me." Replied Cardin, with a sneer in his voice.
"And why is that?" Coco asked while gritting her teeth.
"Simple, you look down on us first years. Calling us rookies as if we haven't already been at Beacon for several months. And don't even think that I haven't heard you and some other second year students talk about us first years and question wether or not we truly belong at Beacon. And the less said about whatever issues you have with Wukong the better." Cardin replied.
"Oh that's simple, it's because she believes that just because I, and by extension my team, don't take things as serious as she does and act much more carefree that I'm less capable than her." Sun added, causing Blake to get a look that was a mix of annoyance and anger on her face.
"I'm sorry, you've been saying what?!" Blake asked, a hint of tranquil fury in her voice.
Coco scoffed at Blake's tone and replied "So what if I did, you all act like everything's such a cakewalk, forgetting at which school we are. We are at Beacon to train to defend humanity, and if you can't take that seriously, then you shouldn't be there. You all think things are so easy, but guess what, they aren't. We've gone on missions to exterminate Grimm where we thought we wouldn't make it back alive, we've seen people lose their homes to the Grimm, we've seen huntsmen perish because of their wounds!"
"Well, what fun is there to life if you take everything so serious? Sure, we joke around, but you've seen us in combat. We take things serious plenty." Replied Sun.
Blake pinched the bridge of her nose in annoyance and said "Sun, you're right, but that doesn't help." After which she turned to Coco and replied "Coco, did you seriously just say that we see life and Beacon as a cakewalk, or do I need to get all four of my ears checked?"
"I... I might have been too hasty in what I said..." Replied Coco, feeling terrified of the look of anger in Blake's eyes.
"Oh is that right, well let me tell you, even if you were too hasty in what you said you'd still be wrong. For one, I don't see life as a joke, I don't think I would have to explain to you of all people what the White Fang before it went down the current path was fighting for. Oh and let's not forget neither me nor the rest of my team nor any of the other first year students see Beacon or life as a joke. We take it serious, and even if your team has gone on missions before, so have we. We investigated the Torchwick and the White Fang, we got trapped in the lair of a madman wishing to take over Remnant, we watched Ruby die from having her aura drained!"
"And let's not forget everything else from these last few weeks, dealing with another madman trying to conquer Remnant all because of a disagreement he had with Doctor Light when they were young men. Sure, you went with us on a few occasions, but we have been pulling our weight to make sure he wouldn't win. And we got hurt along the way, we got our shit kicked in because Wily is petty, petty man. And you... you have the gall to go out and say that we don't take things as seriously as you. Well guess what, we do, so where do you get off looking down on us!"
"I'm..." Coco stammered, before becoming silent and turning away from the group in shame.
"Well, you gonna say something or are you just gonna prove my point?" Asked Blake.
"I..." Coco said before turning to Blake with regret in her eyes. "You're right, I let my arrogance get the better of me. My team, we were at the top of everything last year, the best new team at Beacon and while the rest didn't let it go to their heads, I did. There have been moments where I did believe that you first years were beneath us, and I'm sorry for that."
"Apology accepted, though I'm surprised that with a mindset like that you and Weiss didn't get along better at the start." Replied Blake, as Sun and Cardin nodded in agreement.
"I resent that." Replied Coco, as she then turned to Cardin "Now, while I do apologise for my actions and recognise that you and your team are trying to clean up your act, I won't accept it until you apologise properly to the people you've hurt with your actions."
"We already did."
"Not to Velvet, and I don't just mean the parts about her being Faunus, all of it."
"Look I didn't know the two of you were actually... you know... together... like that." Replied Cardin, before adding "But, I was already planning on doing so and I promise to do so after this mission is finished."
Coco smirked at Cardin and said "Good, I'll hold you to that." After which Cardin held out his hand and Coco asked "What's with this?"
"Let's shake on it, I make things right with her and we start over, with less resentment and a more positive outlook on things."
"I can live with that." Replied Coco, as both of them shook hands with one another.
"Ugh, finally, we're done with that." Said Sun, getting some odd looks from the rest for ruining the moment. "What? It took forever and we're not even anywhere close to finding that key." The others simply gave him a blank stare before walking off into the opposite direction from where they came, while Sun kept saying "Guys, guys, come on the joke wasn't that bad." After which he ran after the group not wanting to be left behind.
After walking through a short hallway the group found themselves at an elevator and no other directions to turn to, so seeing as they had no other choice the group boarded the elevator and then felt it go down. And as they were waiting for the elevator to reach it's destination, Cardin elbowed Blake and asked "So what did you mean earlier when you said that the two doctors had a disagreement when they were younger?"
"Oh that, turns out the reason Wily turned evil was because Doctor Light made the board at the university they attended shut down Wily's research into the double gear system out of concern for the harm it could cause robots. From what we were told Wily swore that he would show his superiority one day." Replied Blake.
"Isn't that gear system the thing Rock's been using right now, and has been causing him issues along the way?" Asked Sun.
"That is correct."
"Then that means that Doctor Light's suspicions from all that time ago have been proven correct, and Wily has no legs to stand on." Replied Cardin.
"I mean, maybe if they had spend a little amount of extra time working out some of the kinks some of the stuff that had happened these last few years could have been avoided." Added Coco, receiving some off looks from the rest of the group "Look, I'm not excusing his actions, I'm just saying that with the benefit of hindsight maybe those two could have spend time perfecting the technology and both could have made their ideas flourish."
"Woah, never thought about it like that. Didn't know you were so much into technology." Replied Sun.
"It's not that I'm completely obsessed with technology like some people are, but one thing I've learned while making my weapon is that your first draft can always be improved upon. Because let me tell you, my weapon did not start out as something that could morph from a bag into a mini-gun and back." Replied Coco, as the rest of the group simply nodded in agreement, after which the elevator made a sound that indicated it had arrived at it's destination, where the doors opened and revealed a thermal plant, filled with lava and fire based robots.
"It would seem that the Wily Star is powered by thermal energy." Said Sun, while Blake, Coco and Cardin all thought 'crap, I wish I'd taken a different route' to themselves at the realisation that they weren't properly dressed for this area. As the group began to make their way through the area over a metal railing that was hovering above all the lava, as at random intervals some Changkey's were launched from the lava and began to descend downwards onto the heroes, which were quickly taken out by Blake firing the Gemini Laser at them from Gambol Shroud's pistol.
The group then found themselves on a large empty platform, where in the distance they saw a device that was transporting lava through several tubes, with a counter on top of the tubes that kept track of how much energy was being produced. After which they saw that through tubes in the ceiling the lava got dropped back into the lava lake beneath them, with Blake concluding that the whole thing was probably an endless cycle that ensured that the lava kept flowing and that the station continued to have enough energy.
It was then that a group of Changkey Maker were dropped from the ceiling, and immediately began to attack the group by throwing fire balls from their constantly on fire heads. Forcing the group to quickly dodge out of the way, while Sun simply switched to the Water Shield and rushed towards the group of robots, first hitting them with his staff which stunned them for a bit after which he turned his staff into nunchucks and began to blast the robots, and due to the weapon infusing the bullets with a water element it turned off the fire in the heads of some of the robots, which made them instantly self destruct.
As for the rest of the group, Blake used her semblance to dodge the fireballs that were shot at her, before slicing through the robots with her blades which were infused with acid. While Coco aimed her minigun at the robots, and send out a barrage of homing missiles at the robots, with Blake and Sun making sure that none of the robots would be able to hit her from behind.
Cardin meanwhile was preparing to encase his mace with sand to make it bigger and smash the robots to pieces, when the robots all threw their fire at him so he blocked their fire and the sand around the mace became glass. So Cardin flashed a smirk at the robots and said "Not what I was going, but this works." as he then rushed towards them and used the now glass mace to smack the remaining robots off the platform.
"Phew, that takes care of that..." Said Blake, as she then heard something come in from the ceiling and she yelled "Everybody dodge!" As the group was able to quickly dodge out of the way of a massive fire blast that was shot down from the ceiling, with the group looking up to see an on fire robot dragon decent down at them.
"A dragon that's on fire? I think Wily might not have understood those fairy tales about dragons, knights and princesses." Said Cardin, as he saw the thing continue to fly over them as it continued to spew fire downwards.
"Yeah, I'm sure he didn't." Said Coco, as she turned to Sun and said "Alright Sun, here's what were gonna do, you grab my shoulder and focus some of your aura onto me."
"Ok, then what?" Asked Sun.
"Just do it, I'll explain it later if I'm right about my suspicions." Replied Coco, as Sun simply nodded and did as he was told, and a few seconds later Coco felt the energy of Sun's aura move into her, which included part of the weapon energy for the water shield that Sun had, as she put the energy into her weapon as she then began to fire water infused bullets into the sky and into the Changkey Dragon, until after a few seconds of the robot getting hit by the bullets the fire turned off and the robot crashed into the lake of lava beneath them, where it exploded.
"There that takes care of that." Said Coco, as Sun let go of her shoulder.
"Uh, would you care to explain what that was?" Asked Blake.
"Oh right, you see at some point either during the later part of the first year or the early part of the second year you get taught about a technique that allows you to share aura between multiple people to enhance the damage done by a weapon..."
"...So kind of like Jaune's semblance?" Asked Sun.
"...Yes and no, that does enhance people's aura and from what we've been hearing also has been able to make people's semblances evolve. But, it's not like the technique at all, it's similar but not the same. See this enhances the power of people's weapon, but seeing as the weapon data that has been collected so far has been connected to both aura and weapons I wondered if through this process someone could temporarily share their weapon with someone else and this proves it." Replied Coco.
"That... actually makes sense." Replied Blake.
"And it will make a lot more sense when it gets explained to you." Said Coco, as sweat started dripping down her face, with the same happening with Blake and Cardin.
Sun laughed at the sight in front of him and said "You guys really dressed poorly for this area."
"It's not like we knew we would be going into an area like this." Replied Coco.
"And not all of us can walk around half naked everywhere." Added Cardin.
"Not with that attitude." Joked Sun "Besides, I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't mind."
"Sun, I'm a literal ninja, I need this look."
"I need my armour, I'm not taking it off."
"That worked so well against the Nucalavee."
"Hey come on Coco, it didn't work for Arc either but he's still walking around with it. And what's your excuse for continuing to wear those clothes in this kind of environment."
"Because I make this look good." Replied Coco, as she continued walking along the path forwards, while the rest of the group looked at each other and simply shrugged, after which the group followed after her, until they entered through a door and found themselves in a room before two robots dropped from the ceiling. These two robots being Magma Man and Solar Man.
"Hello there." Said Solar Man.
"We can't allow you four to go any further, so please surrender before things get ugly. We'd rather do our jobs and not hurt anyone." Added Magma Man.
"Hmm, those two are awfully polite and apologetic about this, I wonder why that is?" Coco thought to herself, after which she replied to the two robots "Sorry, can't do that, and I think you both know that."
"Very well then." Replied Solar Man, as a ball of solar energy appeared above his head and exploded in a bright light that managed to blind Cardin and Blake for a bit as they fell to the floor and while Cardin was screaming "The light, it burns!"
Coco smirked at the two robots and said "Next time, don't use the power of the sun on someone with sunglasses." Coco then looked at the two robots after which she looked at Sun who was still standing and asked "How did you not get blinded?"
"Spend a lot of time as a child staring into the sun, I've gotten used to it." Replied Sun, as Coco merely rolled her eyes at the statement, after which the two got into fighting stances, while the two robot masters aimed their weapons at the two as well.
Hot Headed Duo - Magma Man and Solar Man
Magma Man immediately went into the offensives as he started to shoot out a massive array of magma blasts from his arm cannon at the duo, as Coco was forced to quickly dodge out of the way, while Sun used his staff to deflect the blasts away from him and into some of the nearby walls, while Solar Man began to spam the balls of solar energy from his head which Coco managed to deflect away from her through the use of her bag, with the last of the balls of solar energy being hit into Solar Man who got knocked into Magma Man.
The two robots quickly got up and Magma Man began to start glowing as he was charging up his two arm cannons while Solar Man shot out several balls of solar energy into the ceiling, that all merged and formed into a giant ball of solar energy which then began to crash downwards to the ground, forcing the duo to quickly dodge out of the as it crashed into the left side of the room, the explosion taking out a good part of the floor and the wall.
In the meantime Magma Man had finished charging his two arm cannons, and began to rapid fire massive flames from them, forcing Sun and Coco to dodge out of the way, as the flames crashed into the walls and took out more parts of the walls. But as that was going on neither robot noticed that Sun had switched to the Water Shield and had managed to get closer to Solar Man and began to use his nunchucks to deliver several blows to the robot, with the blasts from the nunchucks increasing the damage done to the robot due to the water that was infused into the blasts.
Seeing this happen, Magma Man got angry and began to erupt magma from the cylinders on the top of his head, before taking a bow and managing to hit both Coco and Sun with blasts of Magma knocking both of them into a nearby wall. While Solar Man picked up Magma Man and began to use the latter robot as a bazooka, shooting out blasts of magma all throughout the room, forcing the duo to move as quickly as possible, only for the two of them to get cornered after a while, with the two robots getting ready to hit them.
Only for a newly recovered Blake and Cardin to swoop in at the last minute, as one of Blake's shadow clones took the brunt of the blow of the magma that had been fired, after which Cardin used his mace to knock both robots away from Sun and Coco. Which resulted in Magma Man, as he was flying through the air, shooting a massive blast of magma from his head into the floor, which caused it to break away fully as the two robots fell into the pit followed down by the foursome.
Where upon seeing that there was nothing but magma on the floor, Cardin quickly threw down one of his sand containers, managing to create a sand platform that the foursome was able to safely land on. Where Coco immediately said "Good to see that your eyesight returned." as she then noticed the two robots also land on the platform and immediately used her minigun to shoot into them, which after a few seconds managed to knock the two robots off the platform and into the magma.
"Couldn't let you two have all the credit." Replied Cardin with a wink, as he then noticed that both robots had launched themselves out of the magma, with Magma Man having managed to use the cylinders on his head to launch himself into the air while grabbing onto Solar Man and managing to hover above the group. And once they got into the air, Magma Man used his remaining arm to have several pillars of lava shoot out of the sand platform, destroying parts of it and forcing Cardin to keep up his concentration to keep the sand platform solid and stable enough to keep the group safe.
Magma Man saw that in some of the walls were some tubes that were having magma flow through them to keep the thermal energy going, and then began to manipulate the magma to have it break out of the pipes and into the room to fill it more with Magma so the platform would begin to start rising, as the group noticed that Solar Man was beginning to charge up a massive ball of solar energy above his head. Getting bigger and bigger with each passing second as the group was certain that the robot was preparing to throw it at them.
So they looked at Cardin, who was struggling to keep the platform stable, then gave each other a nod and aimed their weapons at the two robots in the sky and began to fire a large barrage of rounds towards them. Only for them to notice that the shots were missing, as Solar Man called out "Is that the best you got!" before looking at where the trio had shot and saw they had managed to hit the massive orb of solar energy, which began to become unstable as a result, and he realised what was going on while yelling "Ah crap!"
After which the massive ball of solar energy exploded, and the two robots fell into the slowly rising pit of magma, with Solar Man falling in immediately and exploding, while Magma Man fell in and began to melt away. Coco then looked at the robot and asked "You were acting merciful earlier. Why was that?"
"Wily's programming was faulty... there was still some good in me... I just wish I could be reunited with my... creator." Replied Magma Man, as he began to melt away even more.
"I'm sorry that we had to take you out." Said Coco, as she didn't notice that the magma was nearly beginning to rise out of the pit, with Blake quickly leaving the group to go check it out.
"That's ok... just promise... promise I get rebuild... and reunited with Doctor Light..." Mumbled Magma Man, after which he fully melted away. After which Sun got the message "Solar Blaze Obtained." While Coco got the message "Magma Bazooka Obtained"
"Don't worry, I promise you'll be rebuilt." Replied Coco, while she and Sun looked at the new weapons they obtained.
But the celebrations were cut short when Blake returned with some bad news, as she said "Guys, the doors won't open, we can't leave."
"What, what do you mean?" Asked Sun.
"Like I said, the doors won't open and we can't leave." Said Blake, as the group noticed that the magma had now risen beyond the doors and was bringing them higher towards the ceiling with each passing moment.
"Cardin, how are you holding up?" Asked Blake.
"It's getting more difficult to keep this thing from falling to pieces." Replied Cardin, as he began to look more exhausted.
"We're trapped... we're truly trapped and there is no way out for us." Whispered Coco, as she looked at the ceiling that was slowly getting closer.
Meanwhile with Rock, Ruby and Oran
"We won't let you continue beyond this point." Said a Sniper Joe, as it was firing shots at Ruby, right after which it got cut in half by Rock shooting out a metal blade, after which the machine from which the platoon of robots that was being fought against by the trio were spawning from was blown up by Oran firing exploding arrows and Ruby shooting the scramble thunder into the machine. Which stopped more robots from coming from it, as Rock destroyed the remaining ones with metal blades.
"We know, doesn't make it any less true." Replied Rock, as the trio then continued to make their way through what seemed to be a maze of hallways as thee arrows on the walls seemed to be leading them in circles.
And as the trio was walking through the hallways Ruby broke the silence and asked "So, Yang's birthday is coming up in a few days, what are you getting her?"
"Well you know how she sometimes makes the threat to turn me into scrap metal?" Asked Rock, to which Ruby nodded "Well, I went to a scrapyard in Vale and bought some scrap metal and turned it into something that resembles me. So now she'll have some extra scrap metal to use in case her bike needs a tune up."
Ruby gave Rock an unimpressed look and said "Rock, that's horrible. That's an awful birthday present."
"I know, that one is only a joke gift. I'm sure she'll understand. Her real gift is some new workout equipment." Replied Rock, noticing that Oran was walking ahead of them into a nearby hallway.
"Oh that's actually pretty good. But why the joke gift?" Asked Ruby.
"Well you know she and Nora tend to pull pranks around school, so I thought it be fitting. Those pranks are also the reason I don't trust either of them with the time stopper." Said Rock.
"But you trust me with it, right?" Asked Ruby, as she flashed her eyes at Rock.
"Nice try, but those cutesy eyes don't work on me." Replied Rock, as he cusped Ruby's face with his hands and placed a small kiss on her cheek.
"Must you two do that?" Oran asked innocently as he had returned to them, causing the two to jolt away from one another with blushes all over their faces.
"Wait, how am I even able to blush?" Rock thought to himself, then turning to Oran and asking "Did you find anything?"
"I saw a door... with four robots... seemed... uhm... forgot the word..."
"Dangerous?"
"No."
"Secretive?"
"No not that."
"Important?"
"Yes important."
"Then let's check it out then." Said Rock, as the trio quickly walked over to the hallway and saw a sign that read 'Control Room', Rock then took a peek around the corner and upon seeing the robots quickly turned back to Oran and Ruby saying "This could be a problem."
"Why, do you recognise them?" Asked Ruby.
"I do, those are the Dark Men. I have faced them before and they're strong, so we should be careful." Replied Rock.
"Is it that they can't merge with one another?" Asked Oran, as he took a quick peek from behind the wall.
"No, they just have some powerful weapons? Why would they merge?" Asked Rock.
"They just did, and they're coming here." Replied Oran.
"What?" Rock wondered, as he quickly looked behind the wall and was met face to face with a black coloured robot, with tank threads for feet, a massive canon where his right arm should be and spikes on it's shoulders. "Oh, they really did merge with each other."
"Eliminate Mega Man." Said the Ultimate Dark Man robot with a deep tone in his voice.
"Yeah, I gathered you'd say that." Replied Rock, as he used the speed gear to dodge out of the way an grab Oran and Ruby when the robot tried to slam it's arm down onto the ground to try and hit Rock.
Brotherly Imposter - Ultimate Dark Man
Rock put down Ruby and Oran, as the two got their weapons ready, while Rock began to rapid fire shots from his buster the robot. Needing to quickly dodge out of the way as the Ultimate Dark Man began to fire massive energy shots from the big canon that was in place of his right arm. With Ruby using the Pile Driver weapon to launch herself forward into the torso of the robot, while Oran dodged the shots and returned fire by shooting several arrows at the robot.
The robot, however, unleashed a wave of electricity from it's body which knocked Ruby off of it who used her semblance to quickly get back on her feet while also avoiding more shots from the robot as it started to go after Oran who had to start moving quickly. Ruby then switched to the scramble thunder and began to fire at the robot rapidly, to ensure that Oran wouldn't be hit by any of the shots, where she was then joined by Rock who fired several charged shots into the robot.
Unfortunately the robot got it's eyes on the duo, began to rev up it's tank threads and quickly charged towards them, with both Ruby and Rock quickly dodging out of the way for the robot which crashed into a nearby wall getting stuck inside of it. Where the trio got ready to attack the robot, only for an electrical barrier to form around the robot, making it impervious to any charged shots that Rock had shot into it.
The electrical barrier in response to this, began to shoot out several shots of electricity, which Rock had to use the speed gear for to quickly grab Ruby and Oran who had been caught unaware of this to get out of the way for any of the thunder strikes that had been send their way. And after a few seconds of dodging the incoming thunder strikes, the robot had managed to get himself freed from the wall and put down the electrical barrier.
It then began to charge once again at the trio with it's tank threads, where Oran then shot an exploding arrow into the machinery that was connecting the main body and tank threads, after which he quickly dodged out of the way for the robot. Upon which the arrow then exploded and exposed more parts of the machine, so Rock quickly fired some metal blades into the robot, which severed the main body from the tank threads as the robot body fell onto the ground.
But before the trio could even celebrate their victory, the body of the robot started to rise from the ground through a small rocket on the bottom of it's body. As it then shot out several rings of energy, which Rock recognised but was too late to dodge, leading to both him and Oran getting turned to stone. Leaving Ruby the only one left standing as the robot began to laugh at her with a mocking tone in it's voice.
Ruby looked at her two friends who were now frozen in place, and got a determined look on her face. Where she then put her scythe behind her, and shot out a round behind her to propel herself forward. Where she then foiled the robot's attempt to smash both Rock and Oran to pieces using her semblances to get herself further into the air and then used her scythe to slice both of the robot's arms to pieces.
With the arms taken care off, Ruby switched to the scramble thunder and repeatedly blasted the robot with it. And after seeing the hits land Ruby saw that smoke was beginning to emerge from the robot, and so she switched to the pile driver and launched herself straight forward into the robot, where she proceeded to go straight through the robot from one end and she then exited it from the other end, as the torso then exploded into multiple pieces, as Ruby landed on the ground away from the explosion.
It was then that the petrification on both Rock and Oran had worn off and they turned back to normal, as Ruby with a look of relief on her face pulled both of them into a hug and said "Oh thank goodness you're both ok."
"Sorry, I probably should have told you both about the abilities of those things and that the petrification isn't permanent." Replied Rock.
"It's ok, I'm just glad you both turned back to normal." Said Ruby, as she let go of the two and then turned to look at the door at the end of the hallway and said "Let's see what they're hiding in there." As she received nods from both Rock and Oran, after which the two made their way over to the door and entered it, where they were met with a dark room, with camera monitors as well as a ton of control panels everywhere.
It was then that the door shut behind them, as a familiar voice spoke up "Well, I was wondering when you guys would show up." As the lights turned on to reveal Phoenix sitting in a chair.
"Phoenix." Ruby growled "I would say that it's a surprise to see you here, but that would be a lie."
"Yes, it's good to see you as well my fleshy counterpart." Replied Phoenix, as she turned to Oran who gave her an angry snarl "Good to see that your hand was able to heal so fast." As she then turned to Rock and said "Mega Man, don't think I've forgotten about what you did in the castle."
"You deserved that." Replied Rock.
"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't, but that doesn't matter right now, what matters is that all of you have run into a trap." Said Phoenix.
"Right." Said Ruby with a scoff in her voice "One door isn't going to hold us."
"She's right, this is a pretty bad trap." Added Rock.
"Well, I suppose that if you put it like that, it would be a pretty bad trap." Said Phoenix as she pressed a button on the arm rest of her chair "Unfortunately, that wasn't the trap I was talking about." As several robotic arms came out of the walls and grabbed onto the trio, and pinning all of them to the walls. "That was the trap I was talking about."
As Rock struggled to free himself, he replied "It's always the same with robots built by Wily, they alway have a flair for the theatrics, must have gotten that from him."
Phoenix scowled at Rock and said "Well, if you must know, I'm nothing like Doctor Wily."
"Doesn't matter if you are or not, and even if we are trapped right now, our friends are still out there and they'll come for us." Said Ruby.
"Oh, your friends you say? You mean the people you arrived with at this space station? Because I hate to tell you this, but they're a bit preoccupied at the moment." Said Phoenix, as she turned on the monitors, which showed the trio the footage of Team RLSN buried alive under some blocks, Team PPNS frozen solid, Team JYYF fighting off the robot zombies to avoid dropping into a vat of molten steel and Team CBWW trapped in the room as the lava began to rise even further.
"No..." Ruby whispered in horror at the sight of her friends in trouble.
"See, what I tell you? You all thought they would come to your rescue, but as you can see they won't come for you. This place, will be your tomb." Said Phoenix, as she noticed the trio struggling to free themselves from their binds. "Oh don't bother, none of you are getting out of those binds."
Rock then tried to free himself by shooting several charged shots but due to the way he was trapped they only went downwards, while he was doing that he was shouting at Phoenix "We'll get out of here, just you watch!"
"Sure you will, but now it's time for the main even to start." Replied Phoenix nonchalantly, as she pressed another button that showed camera footage of several cities in Remnant being attacked by armies of Doctor Wily's robots that had been send down to the planet from the Wily Star. As the people that were fighting against them were able to take down the robots, only for more of them to be send down. With the footage showing that the same thing was happening at Beacon.
"Phew, good thing not everyone from Beacon went with us into space with us." Rock thought to himself.
It was then that Phoenix pressed another button, as a robotic voice said "Wily star laser activated, user select your target." Phoenix then smirked at the trio and asked "Ruby, I'm going to give you a choice, what should I hit first? Beacon, Atlas or Patch, and remember the clock is ticking."
"None of them, you won't harm them!" Ruby yelled out defiantly, only to be met with a dark chuckle from Phoenix.
"Ohohohoho, wrong answer Ruby. You know what, I'll just take them all out, then I'll destroy the rest of the important cities and after that I'll subjugate the survivors to my will." Said Phoenix as she pressed several buttons as a robotic voice said "Targets acquired, firing laser in 2 minutes."
"NO!" Ruby yelled as she struggled to free herself from her binds.
"Again, don't bother. Besides, you've all failed. Remnant's strongholds are about to fall, your friends are about to perish and there is nothing any of you can do about it. So congratulations Mega Man, Ruby, you're legacy will be nothing but death and destruction, now witness the start of a new era!" Phoenix exclaimed as she stared proudly at the timer, while listening to the sounds of the trio struggling to free themselves.
"Come on, come on, gotta find a way to get out of here. I can't let all of these innocent people die, I need to get out of these binds but I don't know how." Ruby thought to herself, as she struggled to free herself from the tight grip of the robotic arms, until an idea popped into her head, as she thought back to the events of a few months back '...The speed inside of you is yours, feel it, become one with it and use it to vibrate your entire body.'
As the memory came back to her she thought to herself "Ok, I can do this, I don't have Jaune to give me an extra boost and not a lot of time, but I can do this. All I gotta do is focus." As Ruby then started to let her own speed flow through her entire body for several seconds until she started to feel the effects of it, as she was starting to get faster, and faster, until finally enough speed was build up in her body that it lead to the molecules throughout her body to start vibrating, until it lead to Ruby managing to slip free from the robotic arms by passing through them and landed on the ground, and stopped vibrating her molecules.
There she quickly used the rest of her remaining speed to free Rock and Oran from their binds, which was all done before Phoenix even had an idea of what was going on. Ruby then gave a quick nod to the both of them, as she then rushed off towards Phoenix in seconds. And upon reaching the robotic duplicate she delivered several blasts to the robot, which launched her into a wall, managing to daze her for a bit.
Rock then looked at Oran and said "I'll help Ruby, you find a way to stop the cannon." As he then ran off, while the robotic voice then said "One minute remaining."
"Sure, leave all the buttons to the child." Muttered Oran, as he began to randomly press the buttons in front of him, with one of the button presses messing up the toilets in space station, resulting in Wily's lab coat getting sucked into the toilet he was using.
Rock in the meantime had managed to get to Ruby who was now standing in front of Phoenix, as the robot got out of her daze and looked at the two with a smirk on her face, as she then said "Impressive getting out of those binds, but it won't save those cities nor your friends."
Robotic Rose - Phoenix
"If this succeeds and everyone we care about dies, then I guess we'll just have to dismantle you, rebuild you, dismantle you, over and over again." Replied Ruby, as she and Rock got their weapons ready, as Phoenix did the same by morphing her hands into blades and lunging at Ruby, who she managed to pin to the ground and tried to stab in the torso, only for Ruby to kick Phoenix off of her where Phoenix then got caught in a power gear powered charge shot from Rock that lead to her getting blasted into the control panel of the Wily Star, and pressed some of the buttons that led to the Wily Star beginning to slowly turn counterclockwise.
But Phoenix ignored that as she quickly got up from her landing spot and shot herself back to the duo, where the two were anticipating to get hit by her blades so they got ready to block the attacks. Only for them to be caught by surprise when Phoenix turned into a cloud of flower petals which began to hover throughout the room. Both keeping their guard up, making sure to not get caught by surprise when Phoenix would reappear.
But despite their best efforts Phoenix managed to reform into a solid behind them and slashed Rock in the back, launching him into some of the monitors, while trying to shoot at Ruby from the gun that she formed one of her hands into, but the shots got blocked by Ruby quickly using her scythe to prevent the shots from hitting her, which resulted in the shots getting hit into some of the computers.
"I see you've learned from our last encounter, I'm still better though." Said Phoenix, as the cloud of rose petals began to surround Ruby while Phoenix spoke from all of them "Alone, and with no one to rely on." As blades began to strike Ruby from each of the rose petals, with Ruby being able to block most of the strikes, until an opening formed for Phoenix, and she punched Ruby to the ground. Where several rose petals formed in front of Ruby, and created an explosion that launched Ruby across the room.
There she was met with a punch to the face "Slow." a kick to the gut "Sloppy." several gun shots to the back "Sad" several slices with the blades to the rest of her body "A pathetic excuse for a huntress." As Ruby tried to stay standing while holding onto her weapon, while her aura was beginning to flicker. Phoenix saw this and made her head solid again to get a good look at Ruby, and got ready to take Ruby out at a rapid speed, only for Ruby to move incredibly quickly as she got behind Phoenix and used the scramble thunder to blast her repeatedly.
Phoenix tried to shake off the damage, only for a bunch of metal blades to get shot to her direction, with a couple of them striking her head which took away her focus as her body reformed into it's solid form, as an arrow was then shot into her torso, which then exploded and caused Phoenix to be blown apart into pieces. Ruby was then approached by Rock and Oran, as she said "I'm fine, I'm ok, that just took a lot out of me."
"I'm glad you're ok." Replied Rock, as both he and Oran hugged her. Only for their happy moment to be interrupted when a robotic voice said "Zero minutes left, firing laser."
"THE LASER! Oran did you not find the button to turn it off!" Rock exclaimed.
"I tried, none of them allowed me to do that." Replied Oran, as the trio looked on in shock at a nearby monitor as a laser was fired but not at Remnant, instead it got fired into the dark empty void that was space.
"Uhm... computer, can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear arch nemesis Mega Man."
"What just happened?"
"In your fight the Wily Star started to turning counterclockwise and turned away from Remnant."
"It still fired the laser, did something get hit?" Ruby wondered.
"Scanning... scanning... scanning... my reports indicate that the rings of Saturn have been have been split into two, Uranus has a hole in it and Pluto has been vaporised. Anything else you want to know?"
"No thank you, we're good for now." Replied Rock, as he turned to Oran and Ruby and said "We messed up."
"It's not so bad." Replied Ruby.
"WE MESSED UP!"
"Maybe we did, but on the bright side, Weiss was always going on about Pluto not being a planet and now she's right about it." Replied Ruby, as a realisation hit her and she exclaimed "WAIT, WEISS! We forgot about them!" As the trio quickly rushed over to the computer monitors that showed the footage of what was going on, where they saw that their friends were still ok, but struggling to stay out of danger, which was getting more difficult with each passing moment.
"Come on Ruby, think, which buttons should be pressed." Ruby thought to herself, until an idea popped into her head, and she checked where each of the group was and she then began to press several buttons which stopped first stopped the flow of lava through the thermal plant, as the lava stopped rising where the camera footage showed Sun blowing open an air vent, after which he and the rest of Team CBWW went into the air vent to get away from the lava trap.
With another button press Ruby quickly rerouted all the lava that was flowing through the thermal plant and made it flow towards the cooling facility where Team PPNS was frozen, with the change in temperature quickly beginning to melt the ice. Ruby then noticed another path the lava could take, and diverted some of it towards the trash rooms in the bottom of the Wily Star, where the lava was dropped through one of trash tubes on the horde of zombie robots while Team JYYF was completely fine.
The trio then turned to find a way to get Team RLSN free from the blocks they were crushed under, only for an explosion to blast the blocks away. Revealing Nora looking incredibly pissed off, as she held her weapon high, while the rest of her team let out a sigh of relief. With the two robots in front of her getting a fearful look on their faces.
"Oh thank goodness, they're all out of trouble." Said Ruby, as she and Rock quickly turned on their earpieces to contact their friends."Guys, guys come in! Are you all ok?" Ruby exclaimed with worry in her voice.
"Don't worry rookie... Ruby, we're fine now. Was that you who stopped the lava?" Asked Coco.
"Yeah we stopped the lava flow and then brought it to other parts of the space station to help the rest of you out." Replied Ruby.
"That's great, we're currently making our way through the air vent system." Replied Coco.
"Is everyone else ok?" Asked Rock.
"We're good, Nora is currently keeping the two robots who did that at bay." Said Ren.
"Stay back, or you'll be getting acquainted with my hammer!" Nora was heard yelling.
"Penny and Pyrrha are currently doing the same, though with less violence." Said Weiss.
"We're currently taking the stairs back to the main area, so don't worry Rubes, ain't no way I'm letting some hunk of junk take me down." Said Yang.
"I'm glad to hear that." Said Ruby, feeling an immense amount of dread leave her.
"Look guys, we'll stay here and watch the camera's, just to make sure that nothing bad happens to you guys. Good luck on your ends." Said Rock, as he heard several replies thanking him before the connection over the ear pieces was disconnected, where the three of them kept looking at the screens. As none of them noticed that behind them Phoenix had reconstructed herself, and got ready to strike, only for her to get hit by a charged shot from Rock and several blasts of the scramble thunder from Ruby, blasting her into a nearby wall, as she then fell onto the floor.
"Really?" Ruby asked without turning away from the screen "You didn't think that I wouldn't spot you through the screens."
Phoenix got up and said "Fine, consider this a tie, but we'll meet again. None of you will make it out of this place alive, count on it." As she then teleported out of the room, leaving the trio alone.
"Looking forward to it." Replied Ruby coldly, as she felt Rock put a comforting hand on her shoulder while Oran held onto her sleeve, putting a soft smile on her face as the trio watched their friends continue to move through the Wily Star.
