New Kid
The side of her face stung, but she wouldn't give them the satisfaction of seeing her teary-eyed. This woman, her father's wife, was an annoyance, a gold digger, and a cheap whore. All she did was flaunt in the most revealing outfits, showing her goodies and complaining when she didn't get her way. Saya was on a mission. A mission of destroying her life and making it hell. And although she was succeeding, Hinata would never tell her that.
"Tch."
Saya. That name resonated within her, and for some reason, she hated that name with a passion.
Saya! Saya! Saya!
Maybe they hated each other in another life because when she first heard the name of her father's new wife, hate consumed her heart.
The younger woman's lips spread as she could tell she was getting under her stepdaughter's skin. "Oh, Hiashi," She cried when noticing the man leaving his study to approach them.
"What's going on?" His voice echoed. "Hinata? Why are you arguing with your mother?"
"Don't blame her, Hiashi," Saya said, throwing herself at the man. "I didn't mean to bump into her, but it was my fault for not paying attention." She pretended to cry. "It was a little accident, but did you have to call me out my name, Hinata?"
"What?!" Hiashi shouted.
Hinata rolled her eyes. So, perhaps what Saya said was true, but that was only after she taunted her by saying Hinata was the reason their mother left them.
"What is wrong with you?" Hiashi questioned, grabbing her by her arm. "Apologize! Now!"
"Hiashi! Sweetie," Saya said, trying to break his grasp away from Hinata. "Oh, this is why I didn't want to tell you anything," She pouted. "Hinata is still trying to get used to me."
The grip around her arm felt like it was on fire, but she was too stubborn to relinquish… just like her mother.
This only infuriated Hiashi even more when noticing Hinata didn't react or say a word.
"You're as stubborn as your mother!" He screamed at her. "Go! Go upstairs before you make me do something I'll regret!" He snapped.
Without another word, she quickly ran upstairs.
Hanabi spotted her sister, and their eyes met briefly, which made Hinata stop in her tracks. "Hanabi, go to bed."
The young girl shook her head. "I'll tell papa what happened."
"No!" Hinata shouted, which made her flinch. "I-I don't want them to start hating you too." Squeezing her fist, she marched into her room before slamming the door shut.
"Men can be so stupid and useless!" Hinata shouted. "I hate them! I hate them! I hate them!" Puffing her cheeks, she sat at her study station and pulled out her textbook. "Who needs them? Not me! I'm going to be single for the rest of my life."
Grumbling a few more words, she picked up a yellow stress reliever ball. She squeezed it as hard as she could, and just when Hinata felt a little better, she screamed in frustration.
The yellow ball rolled to her bedside.
It reminded her of that stupid blonde boy's hair for some reason.
Kiba couldn't help but groan loudly as his father and mother let him have it. What could they possibly be arguing about at nine at night? The company he kept. Well, more like one individual they found to be a bad influence on their son. The boy had stayed two days at their house, and they weren't good days. Kiba didn't do his homework or study, or do his chores. Sure, they would have to tell him three or fifty times to do it, but he still did it!
"That boy is a bad influence on you, Kiba," his mother whined. "You're at the bottom of the class! What about your dream about taking on the family's clinic?"
"With those grades, I wouldn't hold your breath Tsume," His father scoffed. "I'll be surprised if he even gets into Konoha University."
"You can't keep telling me who to hang out with!" Kiba seethed in anger. "Akamaru, let's go!" He called out to his trusty sidekick. The small dog barked as he jumped around Kiba's legs.
"Where are you going?" Tsume shouted, slamming her hand down.
"Out!" Kiba yelled, quickly leaving the house before his hotheaded mother could throw something at him.
Kiba shoved his hands into his jacket pockets as he slowly made his way to the blonde-haired boy leaning against the white fence. His head was tilted back as he looked at the starry sky. Grinning, he looked down at Akamaru, placing his index finger against his lips. Slowly, he tiptoed behind Naruto getting ready to attack but stopped in his tracks.
"Oh, my fucking kami!" Kiba screamed at the top of his lungs. He almost gagged at the rotten smell attacking him.
Naruto looked over his shoulder, then down at Kiba's shoes. "Should have listened to your mom when she told you to pick up that mutt's shit."
Kiba shot his friend a glare. "Oh, shut up," He groaned loudly. These were one of his best pairs of shoes. It's not like he couldn't afford another pair, but he begged his mom so many times to purchase these.
He removed the white shoe on his left foot and wiped it against the wet grass. "You want to go do some karaoke?"
"No."
"Well, what are you tryna do?" Kiba asked, his frown still visible.
"Don't know," Naruto shrugged. "I'll probably get some ramen,"
Kiba couldn't help but scrunch up his nose. "Ramen? Let's get some burger."
"Alone."
"What? Why?"
Kiba followed Naruto's eyes as they landed on his house. "I'm not trying to get blamed for being a bad influence."
"Oh, you heard that?" He laughed nervously. "Don't pay her any mind."
Shoving his hands into his pockets, Naruto began to walk away. Kiba knew better than to follow him, and he couldn't help but sigh in annoyance. Akamaru licked his hand to get his attention.
"Yeah, yeah. Let's get back inside before she locks us out… again."
Naruto broke apart the wooden chopsticks and began to stir the hot cup of noodles. Sitting on the stool, he watched some people walk back and forth from the shop's window. He didn't even know why he came to the convenience store as he wasn't even hungry. That was rare because ramen was usually his favorite meal, whether he was hungry or not. So, that meant only one thing… he was coming down with the flu.
Placing the chopsticks down, he slid the ramen bowl away from him. It had been a long time since he had gotten the flu, and during that time, his mother was out of the hospital to take care of him.
He almost scoffed.
She couldn't even care for herself, but here she was, caring for him in her condition.
He didn't know how long he sat there, but countless people entered and left the store. Sighing, he placed his head on the countertop. Going to that place to rest was out of the question. He wouldn't even get a night's rest if he was to go home during this time.
Sensing someone beside him, he lifted his head and rubbed his eyes. His head was now pounding, and he felt a chill come on. So, it begins.
A sudden silence took over when he heard a loud growl from the unknown person sitting beside him. Looking from the corner of his eyes, he could see a raven-haired boy sitting there snacking on some chips. Another growl erupted from him, but the boy didn't seem to care as his face was stoic.
Naruto looked at his phone, and it was already ten.
"Shit," He muttered as he scrolled through his contacts. Who could he crash with for the night? Deciding that there was no one, he knew he would have to sleep in the park tonight as he refused to go home.
"Your stomach is getting on my fucking nerves. Eat the damn ramen," Naruto said, shooting the boy a glare before marching off.
The raven hair teen watched as the blonde boy left, leaving the cold ramen behind. After some minutes, he placed the empty chip bag down and slid the ramen beside him. It had been some time since he had something filling to eat.
Uchiha Sasuke
The handsome boy, whose name was written on the chalkboard, was called Uchiha Sasuke. Everyone was speechless, especially the girls since he was handsome and fresh to Konoha High.
With his height and broad shoulders, they expected him to be either an athlete or a model. But did it matter? He was handsome!
"Mr. Uchiha, would you like to introduce yourself to the class?" Kurenai-sensei asked.
"Please take care of me." He bowed.
Kurenai could only chuckle nervously, but the female students clapped to their hearts' content. He had only been in their homeroom for a few minutes when his picture was sent to the school's group chat.
Hot-new-student was the name of the picture circling around the school, bouncing from phone to phone. Nobody didn't even know who took the picture, but whoever it was had some photography skills.
"Let's see, you can sit next to Hinata," Kurenai said. "Hinata, raise your hand, please!"
Seeing the raised hand, Sasuke walked coolly down the aisle, and all eyes were on him. He didn't say a word, and it wasn't like Hinata expected him to. Just seeing the class's reaction, she knew he would be annoyed for the remainder of the school year.
Naruto became increasingly irritated as he rolled on his side, trying to find a comfortable position. Maybe he was asking for too much since he was on the gym rooftop, but it's not like he had anywhere else to go.
Sighing, he lay on his back and placed his arm on his face to cover the sun's rays. He was hot and sticky! Anyone from a mile away could see how sickly he looked.
Just as he was about to get up to find another spot, hopefully, a comfortable one this time, Iruka stormed the rooftop.
"Naruto!"
"Iruka," The boy replied in a hoarse tone. Earlier this morning, his throat had begun to tickle him, and now he found it irritating to even talk.
He approached the boy, angry that he had skipped another class. He went through a lot so the school wouldn't kick Naruto out, but the boy was testing his patience. Couldn't he at least try?
"Naruto, do you understand how important school is? You'll end up repeating if you don't get yourself together. Don't you want to graduate with your friends?"
Rolling his eyes, he went to grab his bookbag until Iruka grabbed him by his arm.
The brown's man eyes widened in shock, feeling how sticky and hot the boy felt. "Naruto, you baka," Iruka said in a soft tone.
Naruto tried to yank his arm away but was too weak to fight.
"How long have you been this way?"
His cheeks were a rosy color, and his hair had lost any shine and color it had to it.
"Naruto!"
"I don't know! Three days! Who cares?!" he shouted, yanking his arm away.
Sighing, Iruka grabbed him by his school's collar and dragged him from the rooftop. "I swear you can be so difficult to work with."
When Naruto joined the ninth grade, every teacher, even Iruka, felt he was a headache. The boy was rude, annoying, and a pain in the ass. Iruka disliked teaching any class he was a part of because he was disruptive. There were many words to describe Naruto during that time, and he constantly complained about the blonde boy to his friend and co-worker, Kakashi Hakate. His image was tarnishing the school's reputation.
However, one day in the summertime, he saw the blonde boy walking. He didn't know what possessed him to follow him that day, but he was glad he did. He had followed him straight into Konoha's Hospital. That day played vividly in his mind.
"Iruka-sensei," Kushina said, repeating the name provided by the teacher. She smiled warmly as she had never met any of Naruto's teachers.
Iruka laughed nervously as he could feel Naruto glaring at him. "Naru-chan, where are your manners? Get up so Iruka-sensei can sit,"
"Why?" The blonde scoffed. "He has two working legs."
The tick mark grew on Iruka's head. "Naruto Uzumaki!"
"Fine!" Naruto said, throwing his arms up. He jumped off the chair and walked past Iruka glaring at him. "I'm going to get a soda," He mumbled, quickly leaving the room.
Kushina shook her head. "I'm sorry about that, Iruka-sensei. I hope he isn't a handful. Please take a seat," she said, shifting into a more comfortable position.
Smiling meekly, he sat on the chair. Looking at Kushina, he knew where Naruto got some of his looks.
"You're making me blush, Iruka-sensei," Kushina said, grinning.
Turning red, Iruka put his hands up. "I'm sorry. It's just that he favors you so much."
"You should have seen his father," Kushina beamed. "They looked so much alike. I wished Naruto had told me his teacher was coming. I would have freshened up."
"I should apologize, as I didn't mean to come unannounced."
"No, it's fine," She smiled. "As you can see, I'm sick, so it's hard to be active in Naruto's school life. How is he doing in class? He can be a chatterbox, but I hope he's not interrupting your class."
"Ah…" He paused as he thought about what to say when he saw the gleam in the young woman's eyes. He didn't know much about Naruto and his home life, but now his behavior began making sense. "Naruto… is doing his best…."
Closing the door behind him, his shoulders lowered as he wasn't fond of lying, especially to parents.
"So, are you a pervert who likes stalking little boys?" Naruto questioned, glaring at the man.
The two sat on the wooden bench outside the hospital. Naruto had a cold can of soda on top of the massive bump Iruka had given him earlier.
"How long has your mother been here?"
"She's in and out, so I stop counting," he mumbled. "Why did you follow me here? You thought I was up to no good?"
"No. My body just reacted on its own."
They stayed quiet for a while until Iruka spoke up. "I didn't tell her anything."
"It's not like I care."
"You should care about your grades, Naruto. They are important, especially for graduating and entering Konoha University."
"School ain't for me, so I don't care," Naruto repeated.
That day changed their entire relationship and Iruka as a whole. Being a teacher for many years, he had lost that spark. It was just another job he went to, and the students were something he stopped caring about. If they didn't care, why should he?
But understanding Naruto's situation made his former self awaken. Each student had their own story; after all, they were just kids who didn't know how to communicate their feelings.
The other teachers saw a difference in Iruka when it involved Naruto, and Class F. He no longer complained about them. Sometimes he even found excuses for them. They especially notice how close he and Naruto had gotten.
They tried to probe the man to find out what made him change his heart, but he didn't say.
"You better not tell anyone. I'm serious," Naruto said, staring deadly into the man's eyes. "If you do, I won't return to that hell hole."
"It's a promise," Iruka said, holding his pinky.
Naruto stared oddly at it, then at Iruka. "A promise is a comfort to a fool. If I hear anything about this day from anybody, I will shit in your bed."
"You little brat!" Iruka shouted.
"Excuse me, Dr. Tsunade," Iruka said, entering the nurse's station.
Since the brawl, the medicine cabinets have been locked with iron bars. Even the pillows were screwed down to the bed to prevent anyone from having a "pillow fight."
It was empty inside, which wasn't strange. The woman was probably somewhere day drinking. How she still had her license was beyond him.
Iruka led Naruto to the bed, forcing him to lie down. "I'm going to get Dr. Tsunade, so you lay here until we return," He demanded.
With no strength to argue, he lay on the bed staring at the ceiling. Iruka pulled the blanket over him and gave him one last glare before leaving.
When Naruto heard the door shut, he closed his eyes. The mattress wasn't as comfortable, but he wouldn't complain since it's been a long time since he had lied down on one. Soon, he drifted off to sleep.
The door slid open, then closed.
Naruto stirred in his sleep. His body felt on fire, and he could feel the sweat running down his forehead to his neck. Suddenly, his body began to cool down when a cold cloth was placed on his forehead. He sighed in relief when the person started to wipe the sweat from his neck.
"Kaa-san," He mumbled.
"I'm not your mother."
His eyes snapped open when hearing the deep voice.
It was as if his soul had left his body when he spotted a raven-haired teen looking down at him. Naruto pulled the blanket up to his neck. "You perv!" He shouted at the top of his lungs.
The raven hair teen didn't seem to like being called that, as there was a large tick mark on the side of his head.
"I am not a pervert," His voice came out cold.
"So, why are you in here touching me?" Naruto questioned, looking around.
"I didn't touch you!" He found himself shouting. "You were sweating profusely and groaning."
Naruto squinted as the raven teen looked oddly familiar, but he shrugged it off. He wasn't good at remembering faces. Giving him one more last look of suspicion, Naruto laid back on the pillow as he could feel his head spinning.
"Why are the medicine cabinets locked up?"
"A demon spawn was unleashed in here, causing mayhem," Naruto mumbled.
"So, in other words, you destroyed the nursing room."
"Innocent until proven guilty!" Naruto remarked, shooting him a glare. He didn't know who this guy was, but he was starting to piss him off.
"Yeah, yeah."
The older teen stood up and began to dig through his pocket. After more digging, he pulled out a pill and gave it to Naruto.
"What is it?"
"It's going to reduce that fever of yours." He answered.
"Why are you giving me this?"
"Because I hate owing people,"
"When did you owe me?"
Sighing, he dropped the pill into the blonde's hand and left to lie on the empty bed.
Naruto gave the pill one final look before swallowing it. The two boys didn't say anything further and eventually fell asleep.
