Epilogue
100 years has passed since my death and turning at the hands of Laurent. It has been 80 years since I had last seen Edward Cullen. He had spent twenty years trying to convince me that I was his match. He was delusional. I was never his mate; I was just a toy that he wanted to keep around as a way of punishing himself for being a vampire. And for also being a continuous reminder that he was strong, he was better, for not drinking my blood. I was alluring to him, and he used the siren's call of my blood to make himself feel better. I was just a test to him. I was a living trophy that he wanted to keep displayed and keep on his arm as a testament of his strength. That is all I was. I was a temptation that he would one day slip up and take my blood. He wanted to eventually start getting a taste here and there to test himself. He wanted to get stronger at resisting and he had to know what he was up against. Edward learned really quick that he couldn't hide anything from Aro.
Master Aro laid it all out bare what he had been trying to do to me. He knew that I was a mate to both Jasper and Alice. He knew and planned to keep us apart. He saw me as his prize. By keeping me severely enthralled I would not make the connection to Jasper. That was why he had tried to keep Alice away from me, he thought it was sinful for Alice and me to be together. Even more so with Jasper. He felt that Jasper was undeserving of me, and that Alice should be grateful that he was even allowing her to be my friend. He did not wish to share me with any of his family. More so he did not wish to allow me to make my connections with the two I truly needed in my life. He wanted that spot and desired for me to want him in that spot. By leaving me like he did he was trying to establish a dependency in me for him. Like I was an addict, and he was my drug.
According to Master Aro, Edward was fully prepared to keep me human and a prisoner to his charms and thrall. I would be nothing more than an edible rag doll on his arm. He was more than willing to let Alice and Jasper suffer as he slowly let me die at his hands. I was sickened when I heard it. What had I done to incite this reaction from anyone? Master Marcus assured me that it was not me. He found that the vampires that had mind reading gifts seemed to suffer from mental issues. Even Master Aro was a bit... mad. Master Caius was disgusted with Edward's behavior. Believe it or not but as ruthless and cold as Master Caius was, he was actually a softy underneath when it came to his Queen, Athenadora. She was a radiant lady. Almost like an embodiment of the sun. Master Caius believed in the cords of the soul and to be an outsider and try to sever another souls' cords was unforgivable. He, like Master Marcus wished for Edward's death. Master Aro wished to use his gift to his advantage.
It took two decades of Edward's aggravating attitude for me to finally rip his head off. He would not leave me be. Even after I knew the truth. After Carlisle and the other Cullen's knew the truth, he still was trying to convince everyone that he loved me, and I was his mate. We all knew different. Carlisle, with a heavy heart exiled him from the coven. The Volturi, well, Master Aro kept him close. I still am not sure what had transpired in his mind, but he suddenly snapped one day. Alice and I were waiting for Jasper in the garden with Leah. Jasper and Demetri were on a mission for Lord Caius. Leah was having a sandwich as Alice and I were snuggled up in the shade of a tree. We were just talking, and Leah made a joke. Alice and I laughed. Leah had stood to stretch her legs and back. Alice leaned over and kissed me. Before we had even finished our kiss, I was ripped away from her by Edward. I didn't even think, I just reacted and sliced his head off with my hand. I was shocked that I had finally done it.
Jane and Alec had witnessed this turn of events. The twins were more that ecstatic that he was beheaded. Jane oozed malicious glee when she looked at his beheaded body. Alec had picked up his head and seemed to be weighing the thought of punting his head. Alice had suggested that we go before Aro with his body. We reluctantly did. Aro was not pleased that I had beheaded him, but Master Marcus had interjected. He had insisted that Aro just simply keep Edward's head. His head would still function without his body. He would not be able to talk but he would be able to still think and since his power is based in his mind it would still be accessible. Aro seemed in glee of this development. He wouldn't have to have the insufferable boy around anymore. This turn of events pleased Aro immensely.
When Jasper and Demetri returned, they were informed of the new development. They were both highly amused. For the next 80 years Jasper, Alice, and I developed our bond in strength. Leah and Demetri were still going strong. Since she was continuously around vampires her shifter gene would never go dormant. She wouldn't age and would continue to be young and beautiful by Demetri's side. And now at our farewell party she was still gorgeous. Her brown eyes held sadness at our upcoming departure, but she understood. It was time for us to explore. We had never made a commitment to stay forever with the Volturi and it was more than time for me to see the world. We would come back every now and then to visit. Phone calls and letters would still be exchanged. Us leaving was not forever but our lives were. So, as we gathered for the departure, I couldn't say goodbye. I could only say until we meet again.
