"The set list's decided! Now there's nothing left but" - Jirou began, before Bakugou interrupted her. "PRACTICE TIME TILL WE CAN KILL IT ONSTAGE!"
Our band was all formed up now. Now it was time for us to discover a name. "Electro Spark Kids!" suggested Kaminari.
"Midnight Funeral March," was Tokoyami's idea.
Bakugou growled, "ME."
I suggested to Jirou "Given that it's Class A putting this together, why not 'A band'?"
"PERFECT!" Jirou smiled. "That's cute!"
Perfect! Now we were to be "A Band"! And we would need of course great support, wonderful tea...
Anyway, we had our set list figured out. Jirou and I had worked together to compose a song of our own, "Hero Too", and the rest we were doing were other numbers we all knew. J Rock stuff, four on the floor beats, the songs on the radio we'd grown up listening to.
"Kaminari, are you even paying attention?!"
"Of course I am!"
"You've got to handle the strings like this."
That first Saturday we ran through a couple times and Jirou shrugged and gave us some awkward tips.
"Bakugou, we don't really have room for drum soloing or improving here."
"How's that gonna kill it onstage!?"
"We need a basic beat, you know?"
Next day for practice things went a little smoother. We got a chance to practice in an empty classroom. I had brought in a thermos full of tea and was passing it around between them, as I had done the first time.
"Phew, that hits the spot!" Said Kaminari, sipping slowly. Bakugou dreamed the whole thing in seconds.
"Tea's tea! Though this one's a little sweeter then yesterday's."
"I should have expected you'd have a distinguishing palate, Bakugou!" I smiled at him "Today's is a second flush Darjeeling, while yesterday I brought a first flush."
"First? Second? What's the difference?" Asked Jirou.
"First flush refers to tea leaves picked during Spring, while second means the harvesters waited until summer," I said as I passed Jirou a cup from a different thermos. Jirou looked confused; I smiled and said, "Yours is milk tea, which should help protect your throat and singing voice. You mentioned some discomfort yesterday, yes?"
"Oh. Thanks…yeah, this is great," said Jirou, blushing. I finally started on my own cup.
Tokoyami was busy looking over the power cords and his Dark Shadow came out and shouted "Fumikage, gimme something to do!"
"As I explained yesterday, Dark Shadow," he said, "The stage will be lit up from all angles. Just the sport of place you cannot tolerate."
"But I'm the only one left out! I wanna do something!"
"Aww, why the heck not? We could use a third guitarist!" Said Kaminari.
Jirou said, "Our whole dynamic would be unbalanced, though. Maybe it could play bass instead?"
"No. That intricate fingering demands extensive practice. Dark Shadow couldn't possibly learn it in time," said Tokoyami.
"I wanna play!" Dark Shadow pouted. "Everyone else gets to join the School Festival!"
"Shaddup1" Bakugou snapped. "Was was wah, whining like a baby cuz you wanna play too? Why dont'cha bang on something then? That's a bout on your level!"
"Banging, percussion maybe?" Said Jirou. "How about the tambourine? It's simple enough, and it could add a nice touch to our arrangement."
"Tambourine, lemme!" Whined Dark Shadow.
"In that case, just a moment," I said and promptly created a symbol. Dark shadow grabbed it and started jangling.
"Tch," Bakugou clucked his tongue at it. "Just don't throw off the damn beat.
"Aye aye!"
