Chapter Two
Sector B Forest -Bria-
Bria quickly followed Jane and Salvador through the forest, brushing aside any leaves and tall grass. She had no idea what was hunting them, nor what else was in the forest. All she knew was what the two boys said and that was to keep running.
"We're two sectors out," Salvador huffed as he ran. "Each Sector is approximately 3 or 4 acres."
Jane nodded and looked back at Bria who was visibly frightened.
"We're going to be fine," She assured Bria. "As soon as we get to the Beacon we'll soon be getting home."
"Where's Ivan?" Bria asked.
Suddenly before Jane could answer, there was a loud rumbling sound as the earth shook. The tall trees began to shed the smaller lesser leaves, it seemed as if something large was coming.
"Doc," Jane looked at him. "What is that?"
"We have plenty of large species on the island," He grinned nervously. "It could be a herbivore."
Jane's question was only half answered, soon the other half connected as a frightening roar filled the Forest. Salvador gestured to stop moving, he looked down and found he was standing in a giant foot print.
"Everyone…climb the trees and cover yourselves in leaves." He pointed around.
The group split up towards several trees, climbing up and hiding amongst the leaves. Bria was amongst the last to finish her camouflage, her movements frozen in fear by what came into her view.
"Do not…make a sound." Michael who had followed her said.
The gigantic tyrannosaur stomped into view, its reptilian green skin moving the leaves around. It chased a medium herbivore, the adolescent Triceratops was thrown into one of the trees holding children. The Tyrant lizard began to tear into the Triceratops, the earth was still shaking however…the Dinosaur was not alone. A second one followed and began to consume the Triceratops as well, knocking into the first one. The first one was pushed into the tree and a figure fell from it, not to the ground but was suspended in the air by a vine.
"JOHNNY!" Michael screamed and the two carnivores halted their feeding.
Bria quickly covered Michael's mouth and watched as the two searched, looking for the source.
Suddenly there was a rustling in the bushes that drew everyone's attention, and the group of raptors arrived. They recoiled at the sight of the two giant lizards, then began barking at them like dogs. The second lizard began to chase the group causing the two to be split up, the first began feeding once again causing flesh and blood to be splashed around.
Johnny had begun to grip the vine and climb, just hovering above the carnivore. Then it happened, the vine snapped slightly causing him to drop lower and let out a yelp.
The Carnivore glanced up and spotted Johnny, the gigantic iris turning smaller as it had new prey.
"HURRY JOHNNY!" Michael screamed through Bria's small hand.
Johnny hastened his retreat, climbing faster and faster but to no avail. The Carnivore stretched upwards and clamped its giant jaws onto Johnny's leg. He hollered in pain as the Rex pulled him down and snapped the vine, Johnny's only possible way of success.
"HELP!" Johnny cried out.
The Rex however ignored Johnny's cries and simply dropped him on the dirt, his leg bleeding indefinitely, he tried to crawl away with tears in his eyes but the Rex stomped on his leg. It leaned it's head down and clamped it's jaws once again onto Johnny's upper body, tearing it in half spewing blood and organs onto the ground.
Michael had gone silent, in horror as he watched his new friend be consumed by the Rex who left shortly. Bria as well was silent, completely traumatized but at the same time worrying for her brother…who she had not seen in hours.
Sector B Forest -Ivan-
Ivan hid as a Rex and a group of raptors passed his tree, then quickly returned onto the path they'd come from. He jumped over fallen logs and giant footprints, hoping to find the group safely hidden or far from here. Then he spotted it, a leg sticking out from a bush…covered in blood and organs. He approached the leg and covered his mouth as he held back the urge to barf, the leg was detached and had been gnawed by something huge so there were giant chunks of it missing, exposing the bone.
"That's definitely not Bria," He gagged. "The leg is too large."
Just to make sure he grabbed the end of it by the shoeless foot and the lesser gnawed part, hoping it was hairless to confirm his beliefs. It was, the leg belonged to a male who had an unlucky run in with something rather large.
"Poor bastard," He frowned. "Better him than me though."
Quickly he hurried on, following the tracks of a giant rex thinking he would find the group being followed…little did he know they'd gone east whereas the tracks led south.
Sector B/Early Sector C -Michael-
Michael followed Jane with less life in his eyes, horrified and in a state of shock due to the merciless death of Johnny. Jane glanced back at him and decided to fasten her pace instead of comfort him. But who could blame her? How would anyone comfort someone who had just seen his friend be eaten alive. He began wondering so that he wouldn't be torn apart by the flashing images of Johnny.
"Why are there so many children here?" He asked Jane.
"There's only 22/100 here," She responded. "That's far less and unfortunate."
"That doesn't answer the question." He said.
"Truthfully?" Jane sighed. "I do not know."
They and the others trailed Salvador quickly, passing a sign with the label of "Large Carnivore Sector -Keep Away From Fencing-" that was hidden in the grass.
Michael was not satisfied, he quickly caught up to the very front with Salvador.
"Hey Doc," He looked into his eyes that seemed tired. "Why are there so many kids here?"
Doc became stiff and hesitant, "Michael you do not want to know the truth, trust me."
"But I do." Michael frowned.
"Drop it." Salvador ordered and forged ahead leaving Michael in between the group and himself alone.
After what seemed an hour of traveling they found a 40 foot fence made up of wood and steel with spikes on the top. Salvador stumbled backwards, he recognized this fence but did not warn anyone.
"What's wrong Sal?" Jane asked.
"Nothing," He grimaced and slid through a doorway with no door. "Nothing at all…come now."
Aerial Sector -Aria-
"I want everyone on edge," Aria's boss screamed. "There has been a breach by outsiders and they've allowed SP-1 and SP-2 out along with various other specimens!"
Aria held her AR-15 close to her chest, breathing heavily in panic. All the security forces from the Pterodactyl Cage had been called up to the tower and were being briefed.
Everyone thought it was simply a routine check up but were quickly informed, they were to keep guard and keep all the scientists and kids safe.
"Valdez," Boss looked at Aria. "You're to go to the Pterodactyl entrance and keep guard."
Aria could feel the fear creep into her body, she had avoided the cage for years as it was filled with the most vile creatures.
"Ma'am," She cleared her throat. "Isn't there supposed to be another going with me as it's a two man job?"
"We're low so for now it's just you," She nodded. "Goodluck."
Aria nodded back and quickly hurried off to the cage entrance…it had no door supposedly due to the fact that the giant birdlike creatures could not normally fit through it and it was a metallic tunnel with slits in the sides. So there was no way one could fit, right?
Aria stood guard and gripped her rifle, her anxiety that had been acting up had gone up a notch due to the circumstances she was now in.
"It's okay Aria…nothing is going to happen-" Aria huffed and was interrupted.
There was banging in the dark tunnel due to the fog, then it got closer and two scientists sprinted out.
"DON'T WORRY ME LIKE THAT!" Aria screamed then was met with more banging.
She looked down the tunnel, nothing could be seen as the banging continued. Aria stepped in and aimed down the hall, treading lightly. She continued more and more as the light began to fade and the banging suddenly stopped. Aria scoffed as she facepalmed for thinking something could actually get in the tunnel.
"Stupid me," She began chuckling. "No way those big ass birds could get in."
Then she blinked and saw a 9 foot figure, standing in the dark. She couldn't make out what it was but she quickly found where it came from. A medium sized hole in the tunnel had been created…it wasn't broken or anything but it was very specifically designed.
'Traitors.' Aria thought and stepped forward.
The beak came into view…slowly she raised her rifle at the teenage Pterodactyl.
"Don't do anything rash," Her throat felt dry. "Why am I speaking to an animal."
Suddenly the giant bird-like dinosaur swiped away her gun with its beak and snapped at her hand, she hollered in pain.
"LET GO!" She screamed as she pounded the beak with her hand causing it to bleed.
The Dino however was unaffected as the beak was made of what was like bone, it dragged her into the darkness.
"HELP!" She screamed even more and could hear security rushing into the tunnel but it was too late. The Pterodactyl dragged her into the hole and took flight with her hand in it's beak, her hand began to tear and she screamed in pain. It tore off and she began to fall with her disconnected limb, but quickly the bird-like creature snatched her with its claws. Swiping her sides and causing them to bleed, it carried the screaming woman as it flew towards a nest. Then it dropped her into the wicker nest and rested on a spire…eating her hand.
She quickly recoiled away from what was in her sight, 3 foot baby Pterodactyls. They rushed forward and began biting her, causing her flesh to tear. She managed to stand and run with the adrenaline she had screaming as she bled. Reaching the end she was met by a full grown 18 foot Pterodactyl, blocking her escape. She turned and found another enclosing her on the stone bridge, they closed in and she shouted for help. There was none, not nearby at least to aid her.
She screamed as the first one tore into her stomach with its beak, the second snatched her head with its claws and flew. The hole in her stomach split her in half causing her guts and blood to drop on the stone…the younglings feeding on the pieces as the Adults fed on her body.
The Dock -Joshua-
