I was sitting in comp and lit a couple days later when a huge bubble encapsulated Mr. Montenegro and took him out the window.
"Yo, Prue, you gotta see this," Porter called from her seat by the window.
I didn't even have to get up before I saw more bubbles with staff from the school float past. Kids were yelling out in the halls. Kids phones were going off all over.
"Prue, my brother just texted. He said it looks like all of the adults in the city are stuck in bubbles. What are we going to do?" Porter shrieked.
Porter could be cool about almost anything, but her older brother was off limits. Have a dead body, she's your girl. Jesse has a problem? Well, that's how you wound up with the dead body.
"Is there any news?"
"Nadja Chamack is talking while her camera guy shows how high up they are," Elijah piped up from two rows in front of me.
"What is she saying?"
"Nothing helpful."
"Then why bring it up?" Porter seethed.
"She's the only reporter talking about it. No one else is on the air."
I slouched down as other kids broke out in arguments, walked out, and messed around on their phones. I could only imagine what my mom was going through, waking up in midair trapped in a bubble.
"Ladybug was spotted fighting with some villain called the Bubbler, I guess? First real bit of information Nadja has had, but it's really kind of impressive she's even gotten that much from where she is," Elijah mused.
I could fly up to check on my mom and Jesse and make sure all real small kids are okay...but then someone would recognize me for sure. Ghislaine or Porter would see me all awkward and bumbling around without a clue what I'm actually doing. They'd know I'm not human. How would they react to that? Would they keep it secret? Would they stop being my friends?
A gentle hand grabbed my shoulder, shaking lightly.
"Are you okay, Prunelle?" Sparkling blue eyes and a heart melting smile brought me to my senses.
I squeaked. "What are you doing in my classroom, Luka?"
"Your friend Porter saw me going by and asked for help. Your mom will be fine, you know."
Wanting to ignore that Luka had just seen me having an anxiety attack, I let my thoughts spill, "You can't be sure of that. What if her bubble pops and she falls out of the sky? What if she suffocates in it? What if Ladybug and Cat Noir fail and the adults are trapped forever? What if-"
"Hey, if you can't trust Ladybug and Cat Noir, trust me. I know everything is going to be fine."
"How are you so calm about all of this? You never seem to have a care in the world! I wish I could relax like that..."
"It's not that I don't care, or like I...I mean to say..." He glanced around awkwardly, and I curled up in my seat, hiding my face behind my legs.
I'd made the guy I had a super huge crush on upset by expressing my awful anxiety.
"I'm sorry," I started crying.
"No, please don't cry, Prunelle. It's okay to be scared. Wait here for just a minute. I'll be right back."
Through the tears, I watched my body disappear. I'd accidentally turned invisible again.
"Hey, Prue! Where'd you go?" Porter asked when she turned to say something again.
Luka came back to the door, but when he couldn't see me, he seemed disappointed. He hung his head as he left. I just barely caught sight of a guitar in his hand as he turned away.
Feeling even worse, I got up and carefully slipped away to follow him. Once this was all over, I could make myself visible again and apologize.
Luka went to the front of the school and unlocked his bike. I stretched my wings and took to the air to follow him. He was using his phone for its GPS function. He only glanced away from where he was going for a second, but it was long enough for the light to change as he entered it.
I saw an out of control vehicle barreling towards Luka and dove. I tackled him just as the car started over the line of the crosswalk. When I opened my eyes, I was laying on top of Luka, my true form in full view. I'd been so focused on protecting him, I hadn't been anxious enough to remain invisible.
"Who...who are you?"
"Me? I'm nobody, nobody at all! Please forget you ever saw me!" I rolled off him and got up, running for the nearest alley to disappear in.
"Wait, please. You rescued me. I just want to know your name."
"Uh...you can call me Borealis. I...I really need to go though."
I flew to the Pont des Arts, currently very empty with the adults stuck in the sky. I went to the railing and looked at my reflection in the river.
Eyes like constellations, purple and blue orchids in place of hair, a purple tint to my skin like the drow, and the crystals and light that made up my wings rising behind me like an avenging angel.
I sighed, laying my head on my arms as I called up my usual glamour. I couldn't see it myself, only detect the subtle overlay that reassured me it was in place. Others would see platinum blonde hair half buzzed and half in styled layers to my shoulder, vivid green eyes, and an ordinary human body.
It was none too soon, because I blinked and adults were back on the streets. I passed Andre as I got off the bridge and headed home.
Mom was already at work when I opened the door. With it being a weekend, I figured I could leave my homework for tomorrow, and flipped on the news. Surely a news channel would be covering the incident with the villain by now.
That story was just wrapping up, but right before a commercial break, there was a photo of my back, wings on full display, laying on top of Luka!
The whole building must have heard my shriek.
