Space Battle

It had been Days since Willy had contact with Bucky O Hare. It was odd as almost everyday he was in need by his friends in their most dire need. Only a couple times did they actually call upon him to be invited for a special occasion but even on those the Toads had come to ruin it all but thanks to, Bucky and his crew they stopped their latest scheme and invasion.

But with an entire school week had gone by without a call from Jenny on the memory stone that he kept in his pocket or on his nightstand when he went to sleep there was nothing. After another day at school and being Friday he had the whole weekend to himself. His parents had gone to a protest meeting on deforestation out of town. They left him enough food and some money to use should he need it. That was perfect for him.

"Finally some time to relax and work on my latest projects without them knocking on my door." Beamed Willy after read the note he found on the kitchen counter with three hundred dollar's worth in twenty dollar bills he had all that he needed to get by.

Taking a juice box from the refrigerator he headed for his room. If there was any place in his house that could give him solace it was his bedroom where he had achieved a technological achievement. One that world even his parents could never know about. One would imagine that such a marvel he had done could make him rich and famous. Anything he could ever want would be his for such a feat. So young yet he built something that even the most brilliant of scientists and engineers hardly came close to after decades of careful research. But after discovering the blueprints in a box in the attic that came from his fathers days when he was a scientist before he changed from all of that it allowed, Willy discover an entire universe where he was making a difference for billions of lives and found the best of friends he could ever ask for.

Hardly anyone bothered with him in school except for bullies and one person who at times seemed like a friend but would be overbearing and unaccepting of his scientific ways of looking at things. But what he lacked in human friends easily was made up for all that he met in the Aniverse. Not only was Bucky and his crew those that called him their friend and fellow crewmate and an important one at that he had met so many other colorful individuals on many worlds that consisted of all sorts of creatures. Some more friendly than others while some quite reluctant but after, Willy along with his crew saved their planets and towns from Toad invaders, Willy had been welcomed as one of their despite being the only one of his kind ever to be seen.

The Constant danger and life as an engineer and on and off soldier for S.P.A.C.E Willy wouldn't trade it all for anything. If his friends were in need he would come in a heart beat but after a few days he was concerned.

Jenny would never call for idle chit-chat across two dimensions. But he wondered if he should try to contact her. It had been too long since the last mission. If she didn't contact him for this long could it be that the war was won or was it lost? Did his friends perish in a Toad attack? Such thoughts made Willy shiver fearfully as he reached his room and took a sip from his juice box.

"Come off it I'm sure their okay." He told himself as he sat down at his desk and began to tinker on some metal and circuits. Some of the tech he was using came straight from the Aniverse. Being an Engineer on the frigate The Righteous Indignation he was given access to anything at the Captain's request. Having earned great prestige and had invented many devices that gave the crew an edge in a fight or helped stop the Toad's weapons and planetary changing devices or shutting down shields, Willy was offered virtually anything that he could make a use out of.

Willy worked in silence while typing in a blueprint on his computer. Unlike the tech he worked on the computer was the only thing he had from Earth, and it wasn't always very reliable. If only his parents would get him a new computer instead of brochures for peace loving festivals or invitations to events that were about protecting the environment. It was for sure his parents were good people but he wished every now and again they would be more sensitive and understanding. His father did give good advice a long time ago about doing the right thing is worth any cost and he followed that since then.

While he worked he heard a voice sound in the room. "Willy! Are you there? Willy we need you!"

"Jenny?" Said Willy in surprise that he almost hit the delete button on the computer but stopped himself in time. It would be bad to have to start over from scratch on a project over a simple mistake. He quickly saved his work and pulled out the memory stone from his pocket.

"Jenny! Its been days! Are you all okay?" He smiled seeing the image of Jenny on the memory stone and saw a look of concern on her face. He then could hear the sound of Plasma cannons going off.

"We're under heavy attack. A Squadron of Toad Fighters have attacked from the asteroid belt we were receiving a signal from. We had been investigating until they launched their attack. Come quickly if we receive damage we will need your help!" Requested Jenny before her image faded from the stone.

"I'm on my way!" Willy said and pulled the handle of his photon accelerator. It hummed for a moment before it activated fully and a sharp light came from his doorway. Again, he opened it up and came through it leading right into the Frigate that was like a second home to him by now but the moment he stepped through the ship rocked.

"Shields at Forty Percent!" Jenny called from above.

"If only I could scramble their toads with my fists!" Bruiser the Berserker Baboon in front of Willy growled hitting his fists together. What he hated about fights in space he was virtually useless only acting as a helping hand for, Blinky and Willy if they needed assistance or if the Frigate got intruders in it which had not happened for a time now.

"Whoa! Sounds like quite the fight I stepped into!" Willy said almost falling to his feet when another plasma blast shot the ship from behind.

"Willy! Good to see you buddy! Here's your battle suit!" Smiled Bruiser handing Willy his lost brothers suit that, Willy tailored to his own size. He was proud to have Willy wear something that belong to his brother that he missed so much but took to heart that he was not dead but only lost in another dimension since a Toad attack caused their own photon accelerator to overload.

Willy quickly put the suit on and grabbed the nearest thing he could onto. Right now, nothing was smoking or going haywire but an alarm on the shields rang out across the frigate.

"Captain! Calamity and Woe! Shields of the Righteous Indignation are reaching minimum power. Soon Toads will be able to tear ship apart with Plasma Blasts!" Blinky shivered reading the ships shield levels on the bridge of the ship.

Bucky grunted as he tried to keep his maneuvers but the Toad Fighters right behind him stayed on their tail. Relentless in their pursuit they would not give in until they blasted the ship to pieces.

"Any ideas, Jenny?" Bucky asked his first mate making a sharp turn on the vessel allowing Deadeye on the guns below to get a clean shot at one Toad Fighter that failed to turn in time and blasted it with the twin masers.

"Chalk up another one with Ol Deadeye!" Laughed the Gunner taking a few more shots at the other fighters but, Bucky turned the ship back into the direction of the asteroids putting the guns to no more use with no targets to in sight to fire at.

"We can't keep the same strategy up they are getting wise to it. I suggest we use those asteroids!" Pointed out Jenny seeing a large cluster of asteroids some of them ten times bigger than their vessel.

"Deadeye won't be able to shoot something that big our masers lack the efficient firepower." Shook Bucky again the ship was hit with another blast.

"Captain! Shields nearly at zero. Calamity and Woe!" Cried Blinky putting his hands over his one-eyed head in despair.

"The Asteroids are too big, yes. But my readings indicate some of them are hollow. We may be able to use that to our advantage. We just need to get out of sight for a few seconds." Explained Jenny.

Nodding Bucky took the hold of the controls and sent more power to the engines. "Hold on Crew!" The Righteous Indignation zoomed across the asteroids at a higher speed with the Fighters behind continued to give chase.

Bucky turned the vessel just out of the way of a few oncoming smaller asteroids narrowly avoiding them. The Shields at a near loss a direct hit would cripple the ship and they would be at the Toads mercy then. By now with all they had done against the Toad Empire most likely they would be exterminated than taken to be slaves in their mines and factories by now.

"What's thy plan, Captain?" Deadeye asked keeping his fingers on the trigger of the guns. He was itching to shoot again. Any Toad in his line of sight would meet a fast ending.

"We're going to try and lose them in their pursuit. If we can get behind them they will be all yours, Deadeye." Bucky answered flying Frigate across a large asteroid just getting over it before the fighters came over it next and continued their barrage barely missing the Frigate due to the small asteroids getting in the way of their shots.

"Have the scanners picked up any hollow ones yet, Jen?" Asked Bucky keeping up the maneuvers glad to see the smaller asteroids were providing some cover though that luck will run out soon.

"Affirmative. Straight ahead!" Jenny looked over the screen and found the next asteroid they were going straight towards had a series of hallow mazes that were deep within. Most of the tunnels were more than large enough the for Frigate.

"Alright crew this will be a tight squeeze. Hang on tight!" Announced Bucky and everyone was well put in their chairs and strapped on while, Blinky held onto the back of, Jenny's chair. He sent the Frigate straight for the largest hole in the Asteroid that was big enough to leave a tremendous impact on a planet should it drift out of its orbit. Flying straight inside activating the front lights of the Frigate they immediately followed through one of the many paths curved through the asteroid.

Behind them the Toad Fighters followed but were quickly met with a confusing array of tunnels that none of them saw which one their target flew through. They all broke away and choose a path to fly through but one of the fighters did not pay too close of attention through their passages and ended up slamming into a wall exploding on impact rocking the entire asteroid.

"Bad Piloting leads to bad crashes." Snickered Bucky as he kept his eyes sharp ahead. Following Jenny's directive with the aldebaran sensors providing a keen edge in this moment the Frigate was flown just off the narrow walls until they saw the exit of the tunnel ahead.

"Well done, Jenny." Bucky grinned at her. "Put a beacon in this spot let them come and show them how intolerant their pursuit has been."

"Right away, Bucky." Nodded Jenny pressing a button dropping a beacon just at the hole they flew through floating in place with a flashing red dot. Bucky turned the Frigate around and stopped directly in front of the hole.

"Once in your sights do your work, Deadeye!" Bucky called down to the gunner below deck.

"Roger that, Bucky me boy! Ol Deadeye is going to croak some toads!" Snickered the Duck waiting for the moment to come which did not take a minute too long as the remaining Toad fighters followed the beacon through the asteroid following its signature believing they had their mortal enemy in a corner but as soon as they were in sight of the Righteous Indignations guns, Deadeye wasted no time.

"Eat Maser ya swamp bug munchers!" Deadeye screamed manically and shot at every single fighter. The Toads were completely caught by surprise and before they could get the idea that it was all a trap the fighters were utterly destroyed only debris and parts remaining within the asteroid.

"Alright! Well done everyone!" Praised Bucky and the entire crew joined in with triumphant shouts.

"Now let's find that signal and investigate. With that many fighters it has to be another forward operations base or at least a Toad Cruiser. We cannot let them build a hold in this sector or every planet here is at risk of Toad Invasion." Bucky ordered and Jenny immediately looked over the radar and found the signal they were tracking before they were attacked.

"There it is, Bucky. In that quadrant there. The Signal is not strong. It may not be a base but its indefinitely a Toad Cruiser. They must mining or setting up a facility." Explained Jenny.

"Then let's go take care of them. Attention all hands we are heading for a Toad Cruiser. Prepare yourselves. Let's croak Toads!" Announced Bucky and the entire crew exclaimed with eagerness with the Righteous Indignation blasting off towards the signal where the Toad Cruiser was settled upon the biggest asteroid in the belt.
