Hello, so here I am again with another story again for Rosalie and Emmett a criminally underrated couple. This time we are in a New Moon setting for a smaller story of about 17 chapters all taking place from the Volterra arc. So yeah an AU but only a little bit.

(As if that makes a difference!)

A side note on the relationship with Alice. As I have previously stated as I grow older I find that I struggle with the character of Alice the most. I do see her actions sometimes as toxic and while I don't believe Stephanie intended for her to be written that way sometimes I just want to reach through the pages and shake the vampire until she understands certain things. This was a way of getting all of that out. If you love Alice and think she can do no wrong this might not be the best story for you. Her relationship with Rosalie and how she and Edward treat Rosalie is something I have addressed many a time throughout my fics and stories but I hope that you enjoy nonetheless. This is not intended to be an Alice bashing fic, this is just for me to have my say as an ardent Rosalie fan. For all Alice lovers out there I hope that you understand and I am hopeful that one day I will learn to re-like Alice again.

This is not one hundred percent cannon, if you are looking for word for word perfect scenes out of the book then I am not the author for you, this is my interpretation of these events.

There will be trigger warnings for this story and keep in mind a hell of a lot of swearing for what is in the books, also some interpretation on Rosalie and Emmett's past. This also might turn into an M Rated story depending on how I take it. Again something to keep in mind as we progress.

Some events might be missed from the book as well but the bare bones of it still remain.

Also spelling/grammar etc...not my strongest point. Again something to take note off.

Disclaimer-Nothing is mine.

Please Read and Review.

And on a side note, I like so many other Fanfiction Authors no longer receive notifications via email about reviews/PMs etc. So if you do send any it might be a while, if ever before I get back to you. Please keep that in mind for it is not intentional-If anyone has a fix please let me know.

Also this chapter is based more on the movie than the book, in the movie it all happens in the space of one night and so that's what's happening in this story. Rest of the time it should be a pretty even spread between the two.

And some TRIGGER WARNINGS for Bella's depression (seriously don't get me started on what that turns to in Eclipse) and Rosalie's past.

Spheres Of Influence

Chapter 7-Like A Phoenix Rising From The Ashes

Rosalie is on a plane with Bella and she rings her husband. It does not go well.

"Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage" Lao Tzu

They got their connection with seconds to spare.

Christ travelling with human's were slow.

Rosalie had dumped her stuff into her seat and then without warning Bella sat down next to her. She curbed her irritation as best she could. Granted the idea of a flight from America to Italy with Bella Swan sitting next to her was awfully irritating but the idea of sitting next to some stranger was even worse. And more to the point there was a very good chance that not even bribery in this packed airplane would get her anywhere. Now that she was on this insane, crazy and borderline suicidal ride she was going to have to sit with it and she was going to have to make the best of what she could.

Of course she was halfway up in the air and if the Volturi told Edward yes…that they would kill him…that they would put him out of his misery…she didn't know how she was going to tell that girl sitting in next to her chewing off her fingernails.

Actually come to think of that how would she know?

"It's faster than running" she said watching Bella's knee jump up and down.

"Is it?"

"You ever held your breath long enough for me to swim the Atlantic?"

That shut Bella up.

Good.

"Order a coke if you want to stay awake, if not try to sleep. I need to call Emmett and figure out what is going on"

Surprisingly enough she did fall asleep coke left untouched and Rosalie watched her as the plane rose steadily and then was level through the night sky feeling restless. She did not do restless. One of the ways of this life was that you had to figure out what to do with the boredom that came with it. Right now she knew what she had to do but she was putting it off.

Somehow she managed to sit there staring out the window trying not to think about the thin layer of skin that was that little human's only protection against Rosalie and her teeth and her venom and then when she could put it off no longer she rang the one person that she wanted to speak to more than she had ever in that moment wanted to speak to before.

To his credit Emmett picked up on the second ring.

"Rosalie"

"Emmett"

For a second there was silence, there was nothing but silence that stretched out into one long, minute that never ended and then her husband ended it for her.

"Where are you?"

"On a plane with a human heading to Italy"

There was a moment of terse silence and then when Emmett spoke it was with a calm and carefully controlled voice as if he was choosing each word carefully and she could close her eyes and imagine him gripping the phone, their one lifeline of communication and trying desperately not to break it into pieces. She imagined for him it must be rather hard for him to do that. God knows it was hard for her to imagine it. Right now she wanted to rip through the planes walls just for the chance to be with him.

"Okay" Emmett said in a trembling would be calm kind of voice. "When you get to Italy you call me and I will come and get you okay—"

"Why is it over?" she asked wondering just how she was going to deal with the human who claimed she loved Edward more than life itself if she had to wake her up and tell her that he was dead all over some fucking vision misunderstanding bollocks from Alice who had not even bothered to check her sources first hand. Rosalie might not understand Bella, she might be irritated by her but even Rosalie at her most heart heartedness wouldn't have wished that on the woman.

"I don't know I haven't spoken to Alice since I was restrained from snapping her neck in two and I don't care to start talking to her now" Emmett growled and Rosalie had to hide a smile even though there was nothing remotely funny about this situation whatsoever.

"And how much did Alice tell you anyway? Did she tell you about how far I am out over America? About how Bella looks right now, sitting next to me like the dead body she should have been? About the werewolf who almost attacked me -?"

"WHAT?!"

FUCK. She had forgotten about that bit. Wincing at the sound of his voice she moved to change the subject.

Quickly.

"Never mind that, does Alice know what he is planning?"

"I don't know and I don't care to be honest" Emmett snapped. "What I care about is you getting off that plane and coming home and—"

"And what? I let Bella walk there alone? Because she will. She will crawl on hands and knees if I don't take her, if she thinks there is a chance to save him. And then Emmett…when she gets there and fresh off the murder of Edward how long do you think it will take before we get a visit asking why we allowed a human to know so much about us?"

There was a pause. That had stopped him as she knew it would.

"Carlisle is here" he said in a clipped tone. "I don't suppose there's any chance you will listen to him?"

"What?" she asked in surprise. "Carlisle isn't trusting Edward's ability to do what is right is he? Alice's visions? He actually wants to deal with us mere ordinary immortals?"

It came out a hell of a lot more bitchier than she wanted it too and maybe that was unfair because there was no way in hell that Carlisle could not hear what she said nor hear Emmett's mocking huff but right now her emotions were scattered all over the place. It was only listening to him right now that kept her in this seat doing what she had to do. It was far beyond Edward right now. Bella was doing this with or without Rosalie the second she had heard that Edward was in danger she had decided that. This was about keeping the rest of them alive.

"I should have gone with you" Emmett muttered. "I should have gone with you and I should have been there and I would have told Alice to shove—"

"You'd be here if she'd had called you" Rosalie said just as soft. "He's your brother Emmett, you think I don't know that you would have wanted to save him."

"Well right now I could fucking kill him" he growled and Rosalie knew that if they were human they would both be crying by now. This felt too much like a normal conversation and yet a goodbye all at once and there was no way around it.

"Yeah well…someone else might do it for you" she said and then she closed her eyes because gallows humour didn't work with Emmett on a good day and this was most defiantly not a good day.

"Emmett"

"Rosalie…if they decide that he is right and he has to die for his crimes or his wishes or whatever it is then there's no need for you to drive to Volterra from the airport, There'll be nothing you can do – you can come home, you don't have to meet them, you'll be safe, and I can come get –"

"Emmett!"

"I don't care Rosalie! I don't care, I don't care if it's selfish or mean or…whatever Alice has told you, I don't care…I all I care about is you, you coming home to me so if they are about to set him on fire TURN THE FUCK AROUDN AND COME HOME"

He didn't bellow but it was a close call, close enough for Rosalie to hiss and throw Bella's jumper over the phone. It startled Bella awake and she looked between the phone and to Rosalie and her eyes widened.

"Emmett" Rosalie snapped waspishly "I don't have time for this, I don't…I need you to get Alice to watch what is happening I don't want to talk to her but I need her and/or Jasper to keep me updated. I am not going to walk into there blind, I need to know…I've heard stories but…"

"Stories" Emmett said glumly. "Yeah that's one way of putting it, you heard about Jane and Alec yes?"

"Yes"

"And what they can do?"

She nodded again because yes, yes she had heard of that.

"I mean—" Emmett said and she could hear the desperation behind his voice. "I mean Rose, is that my benchmark? Is that going to be the line that I have to hope for, you blind and screaming in agony and then that's before you meet Felix and I what? I have to hope for that? Because that's the better option than you being dead? That's the best option out of this, you in pain, crippled and broken, Edward and Bella both dead and…and for what?"

She couldn't answer him. She didn't know how to answer him, every inch of her body was trembling, desperate to reach through the phone and comfort him and hold him and have him hold her. She needed him like she needed…well…blood. He was her lifeline, he was her heartbeat, he was her very soul.

"I…I have to do this Emmett…I'm wedded to it now…so I need you to promise me—"

"No"

He had known and she closed her eyes and she knew that he had known what she was going to ask him and she had known what his answer was going to be. She could not blame him whatsoever. If it had been her in this situation she would have walked through all the fires in hell and back to get to him, to keep him safe and she wanted nothing more to do than to promise him the one thing that she knew she couldn't.

"Emmett…"

"Rosalie do not ask me to follow you, do not ask me to sit here and wait for a phone call or to wait for the silence, please…please, please angel we were supposed to be together forever"

She shut her eyes against the barrage of agony that was threatening to engulf her like a storm on a beach. She shouldn't have been here. None of them should have been here and here she was listening to her husband breaking down on the phone as he begged her to come back to him, a promise that they both knew more than likely she was not going to be able to keep.

"Emmett…"

"Please Rose"

"Emmett please do not follow me"

He gave another little tearless cry again and she closed her eyes on the barrage of pain that hit her again, she was surrendering to the waves, trying to keep her head above water but she couldn't….she couldn't…she needed to hear him say it. She needed to hear him say that he would not follow her to certain death. Call her selfish, call her stupid (God knows Alice and Edward had done both many times before) but she was not going to be the woman who marched Emmett to the afterlife.

"Only if you promise me you'll get out" he said finally and she paused because the slick bastard knew that was the one thing that she couldn't promise. Why everyone believed out of the three of the Cullen boys Emmett was the least intelligent she did not know. Emmett was by far the most cunning vampire out there.

And he knew it. And that was why he was asking her to promise the unthinkable.

"If you have to leave Edward and Bella to do it, you promise me that you will get out or so help me I am on the next plane to Italy"

And there it was, the words spoken honestly, openly, shockingly true and there was nothing that he or she could do to take them back.

Rosalie weighed it up in her head. She hated the very thought of lying to her husband especially nine times out of ten because Emmett could see through the lie without having to have Alice's vision or Edward's ability to read minds of Jasper and his gift of emotional manipulation. He knew when she was lying simply because he had taken the time to get to know her and she had taken the time to get to know him.

She closed her eyes and prepared herself. There was nothing that she could do to get out of it. She had to tell the lie and hope that just this once Emmett would want to believe it.

"I promise you" she said in a haltering tone, "I promise you Emmett, I promise you I will get out"

"You will leave them if you have too"

It was not a request or a question, it was a statement of facts and while her husband sounded strong it was the cracked and supressed grief and anguish that she picked up on, as if he had already started mourning her before she was even dead.

"I will leave them if I have too" she repeated and then Emmett let out a cracked kind of noise that might have once upon a time been a laugh but was too grating and too terrible and too horrific to be anywhere close to the laugh that he had, the warm, booming sound that washed over you like a warm blanket on the coldest night in winter.

"I love you" Emmett said and she forced herself to smile even though he could not see her.

"I love you too"

"Call me the second that you can"

"I will"

And with that the airport phone cut them out and she put the phone down without telling him…

Everything.

But with Emmett she suspected that he already knew.

She would rise from this she knew, she would rise from this and she would be strong once more and she would get through this and come home to her husband but right now she closed her eyes and leaned back against her seat and covered her mouth with her hand to block out the smell and to keep the tearless sobs back and she stayed there perfectly still.

She felt a soft human hand, warm and sweaty and with ragged nails rest on her own and she didn't open her eyes to glare at Bella. She found for the first time she didn't really want to. If there was one person who might understand what she had done and why she had done it she suspected that it was Bella Swan.

So the two of them sat there and waited for the plane to land or at the very least for Rosalie to open her eyes and rise from the ashes of the dreams she had let die, the man she had left behind and get ready to walk towards the hell that was coming next.

And so, the two of them sat there.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

And there you are, I hope you enjoy, next chapter coming soon, with this chapter we are officially only ten left.

Next Chapter-Rosalie tells Bella her story as she tries to show Bella another path. And when then they land in Italy, she gets another phone call.
