"What inner torments do you have?" Pabbie eyed her.
"Let's just get right to the point huh?"
"Well I am on a schedule."
Pabbie's tone was serious like always but he offered Anna a smile which she returned. She was only an hour deep into her nap before someone came and fetched her. Pabbie was back and he had his opinions on what was going on regarding the sickness. He informed her he observed multiple patients and he would share his findings with her and Elsa when they were together. However. Anna couldn't find Elsa. She vanished somewhere and currently the guards were looking for her. Where the hell did she go? She had something to do? What was that? Anna was a little worried but she couldn't have gone too far. While they waited for her she would have her one on one with Pabbie. She was nervous and he picked up on those vibes rather quickly.
"Anna, I've known you since you were my height. You've always been full of innocence and curiosity. You have a heart so pure. You have always looked out for your peers especially your sister. I deeply apologize for taking some of those details away from you. Seeing you over the past few years and watching you grow from Princess to now Queen has brought me great joy." Pabbie nodded. "But something is troubling you and I'd like to help."
"You can tell?" Anna bit her lip and he nodded. "The trouble is I dunno how to confess my troubles." There was a pause. "Being Queen is a glorious job! I'm top dog! I'm Queen Bee. I'm the boss! But it's so stressful... I don't know if I'm doing it right."
"Considering the recent hardships that's been bestowed upon Arendelle I understand why you would feel such a way. Let me tell you this. It is not your fault." He eyed her. "None of this could've been prevented and it doesn't matter who's Queen. This wasn't an event that took place because you took the throne."
"It's just hard.. that's not all though." Pabbie titled his head and Anna continued with caution. She told herself that she was going to confide in Pabbie. Trust him. She felt like she was about to confess her sins. It wasn't a good feeling but she hoped the outcome would be positive. "I don't feel like I can fully commit to... my role as Queen... there are some details that I don't think I can... achieve even if I had to."
"Hmmmm." Pabbie looked like his head was really spinning with her words. "Perhaps... eh I know you've taken on some life changes."
"Do you know?" Anna asked with dread.
"About?"
"I don't want to say.." Anna frowned.
"I know something is wrong." Pabbie was so vague with his answers.
"Kristoff?" She looked at him. "You know?"
"That you broke up with him? No I had no idea." Pabbie arched an eyebrow. "He didn't tell me anything about how you came in and had 'the talk' and then dropped him like a sack of carrots."
"Ha. Ha. Ha." Anna rolled her eyes and the troll just offered a small smile. "Wait you knew and you still want to help?"
"Anna I've been loyal to your family before you and Kristoff existed." He looked at her. "You've provided protection for us. You haven't given me a reason to not help you. Young hearts. So delicate. So foolish."
"Foolish?"
"So confused. So impulsive. So pure." Pabbie nodded. "But I want you to know that I don't think any different about you. Neither does Kristoff. He's made that very clear."
"When did you see him?" Anna asked.
"Recently. He asked to talk to me alone. I don't think he's ready to tell the others."
"Did he say anything about why we called off our relationship?"
There was a pause... too long of a pause and Anna didn't like it. She was starting to feel so small. So tiny. She waited to hear the horrible explanation Kristoff probably told him. All kinds of thoughts ran through her mind. Like Elsa stated Kristoff wasn't the type of person to air out her dirty laundry. This was a serious topic and she hoped he had respected that despite the situation. She rubbed her sweaty palms against the seat cushion she was propped up on.
"He didn't say." Pabbie hummed. "But looking at your face I can see it's something too complicated."
"We'll leave it at that for now." Anna mumbled. "Is he okay?"
"Have you asked?"
"He seems fine but he might want me to think that..."
"He might. Kristoff has a thick skull... he's stubborn. A strong man. However his heart is on his sleeve... now I'm not saying I'm happy about what happened between you two but I'm not going to hold a grudge or let that cloud my personal opinion on you Anna." Pabbie looked at her with kind eyes. "You're still the same person."
"Thank you..."
"However.. You have such torment in your heart. There's something you're trying to hide." Pabbie looked at her. "Do you want to tell me what that is?"
"Uh noooooo." Anna shifted her eyes. "Well... maybe?"
"These dreams. What are they about?"
"I'm lost... I'm lost and Elsa.. I'm looking for her and I can never reach her in time.. I can't find her." Anna frowned. "It scares me.. it's so dark. There's these creatures. These shadows.. they stalk me and haunt me.." She paused. Anna use to be so into dreams and finding their meanings. This had her stumped. "It's not just what I'm seeing in these dreams it's what I'm feeling. There's so much dread."
"I see." He was in thought for a moment. "I can see why you're losing sleep. Just spending time with you today I noticed how tired you look. You have something troubling you... our dreams hold meanings. Whatever it is you're bottling up is seeping into your dreams." Again another pause and he offered her comfort. "Are you sure you don't want to tell me what it is?"
"No judgment?"
"Never."
"Okay well... the reason Kristoff and I... called it quits was..." She could feel her chest tighten. "Uh.. I'm not into him... romantically.. I'm not into... that... at all in... any sort of way..." Anna fumbled her words and looked at everything but the troll sitting in the chair across from her. "I mean he's a great guy! I adore him but… and it's not him! It's not his fault I'm not into… I'm not attracted to… him… that…" Silence. He didn't say anything and she was scared to look at him. So she focused on the rug in front of his chair. Gosh it was filthy and needed cleaned. "So yeah."
"Okay."
"I know it's confusing and I'm sorry.." Anna finally met his gaze. "For hurting Kristoff... and your family."
"Don't apologize for what you are." Pabbie eyed her. "I'm not going to say I understand because I don't. I don't understand anything regarding human relationships. Anna no matter the… person.. you are free to be with who you want to. The only thing I want is my family to be happy and you are part of that."
"Have you seen this before?" Anna looked at him. She made it sound like she had some sort of infection or something. "You've been around for so long. No offense! But have you ever seen a Queen not take a King?"
"Hmm... Yes and no." He looked at her. "I've seen royalty rule without partnership. Have I seen a Queen rule with another woman? No. I've seen Kings not take Queens and rule on their own. If you choose not to have a partner that would be something unheard of but so would ruling with another woman. Queens... er women in general are viewed as incomplete unless they have a man in their lives and produce children. In your case an heir. Kings can usually get away with not having a wife because they're men. A wife is just an accessory in some people's eyes and have no real place in ruling kingdoms. Why do you think Princesses and Queens are pressured so deeply to get married?"
"I feel so offended." Anna hummed. "It's a man's world apparently."
"Unfortunately yes... but in Arendelle? No." He shook his head. "Your Queendom is built around two sisters... built around their love for each other. The people here adore you two like no one else. Which makes them more than okay with having women rule. You both do a very fine job at it."
"Well thank you." Anna blushed for a few reasons. This is good. This is what she really wanted to hear. Not only was it okay for her to be attracted to women. Perhaps rule with another. But how he spoke about the love her and Elsa shared. Would people be okay if they ruled together? Arendelle was known for acceptance. Same sex couples were rare here but they were allowed marriage and equal rights. Anna knew one of the stable boys had a partnership with one of the male cooks. Also the woman who ran the flower cart was married to a woman. She had that on her side but.. Elsa? This was a whole different ballgame. She was still confused and lost. "Pabbie?"
"Yes?"
"Okay... so.. uh." Anna ran a hand through her hair catching a small tangle she struggled with for a moment before her fingers ran freely. "Um..."
"You still have some deep troubles that rest in your heart." He looked at her. "There's more to it isn't there?" Anna was turning so red and looked so uncomfortable. "You don't have to tell me. I wish you would so I could understand and provide comfort. However, you aren't pressured to do anything."
"Maybe I'm not ready..." Anna looked at him. "I apologize..."
"Very well..." He eyed her for a moment. "Remember what I said about your dreams." Anna nodded. "You have to find her." He said seriously. "You have to make it to her in time..."
Anna looked at him and nodded slowly. Her dreams. Gosh every single time. She was always right there. Elsa slipped out of her hold and then? She lost her. She searched the fog in her head multiple times and she could never find her in time. It made her blood ran cold.. would she lose her?
"What will happen if I don't?"
There was a knock on the door and Anna's head turned towards the noise. The door opened and Elsa peeked inside. Anna's heart stopped when she saw her sister. There she was. The air left the room as Anna let out a heavy sigh.
"Am I interrupting?" Elsa's voice was small. "I can come back."
"No!" Anna said getting to her feet. "You're fine Elsa. Where have you been? I was so worried."
"Sorry." Elsa didn't say anything else and looked towards Pabbie. "How are you Pabbie?"
"Curious." He tilted his head. "But I'm glad you showed up Elsa. Anna? Are you sure we're done?"
"Yes." Anna nodded and motioned to the spot next to her on the couch. "Elsa. Pabbie has some news about the sickness. Share your findings?"
Elsa slipped into the spot next to Anna and brushed her hands through her hair. She let out a breath her heart pounding and oh so nervous. The two girls looked at the troll and braced themselves for what he had to say. Anna's eye tended to shift towards Elsa. She looked... disheveled a bit. The air around her was colder than normal and Anna got a little chill. She noticed some new found crystals on Elsa's skin that weren't there earlier. Trust me, she would know. Her cheeks were a little more red than usual from the icy chill she carried around her. Something in Anna's heart ached.
"Well... I have observed many of the unfortunate. I have never seen such an illness. It doesn't follow a pattern. I will say I provided a protection charm upon a few of the medical staff. Unfortunately I couldn't do everyone I have to have strength to get home..." He paused. "This... plague of sorts it... It's so different from anything I've seen. If you think about the symptoms it has at first you'd think you would be able to treat those and it would go away before it gets worse. However this is no normal illness. It attacks and when it does it shows no mercy. I want to take a second and tell you both I'm sorry but you have lost one victim.." Anna's eyes widened. "They didn't know how to tell you and I said I would take on that burden and I am sorry." The girls were silent but the tears in their eyes and stunned expressions spoke loudly. "I want to help prevent anymore deaths so... I have an idea on how but... I want to consult with the others before I speak any further on the matter." Anna fought not to say anything snarky. "Anyways... This didn't follow a pattern… except fever that's the first step. Sadly when one has a fever that's when they're contagious so they're interacting with their peers without even knowing they're sick at first... Which makes it hard to stop the spread. We can't just isolate everyone in their own little bubble."
"No... We can't..." Anna said softly. "Hell I've had a fever before without even knowing! Look as us as kids! We would have fevers and we'd still be playing around acting normal!"
"Maybe that's why we always got sick together." Elsa frowned.
"We shared everything." Anna stated and reached out and took Elsa's hand trying to provide some sort of comfort. "So... What else have you found out?"
"It isn't from here." Pabbie looked at them. "It didn't come from Arendelle."
"Well look at it. It's everywhere!" Elsa looked at Anna. "Someone is carrying it around... We're a trade Kingdom."
"So you think maybe a ship came into port and it had some sick crew member and boom!" Anna looked between them. "What if it's in the food!?" She suddenly felt like she was going to gag.
"Calm down." Pabbie held his hands up. "Calm down." Elsa squeezed Anna's hand and she shut up. "You still have ships coming right?"
"Well.. Yeah but... Not like we use to. Everyone kinda shutdown a little bit but yeah we still get supplies in and out once or twice a week.. unlike ALLLLL week." Anna suddenly looked panicked.
"I will calm your nerves a little bit and say that it's not in the food. If it was you two would be sick as well." Pabbie shifted his eyes between them. "Everyone would have it not just well... the common folk."
Anna was looking at him with her mouth somewhat open still digesting all the information. Elsa on the other hand had that look of thought, the wheels turning, with a wicked sort of look in her eye. She bit her lip and Anna clung to her hand and then to her arm. This wasn't exactly what she wanted to hear but slowly things were making sense. Answers of any sort were welcomed.
"Common folk?" Anna looked at the troll. "That's kinda rude."
"But he's right." Elsa shifted her eyes towards Anna then back towards Pabbie. "We have no one in the castle that's sick... It's only our people. If it was in the food or the water or..."
"The wine." Anna chimed in.
"Then we'd have it..." Elsa paused. "Plus.. if it was in the food that means it was on purpose.." Elsa glanced towards Anna. "I don't want to think someone is that evil."
"I never thought of that." Anna said softly. It's true. The fact this could've been done on purpose, someone contaminated goods with the intention of killing and destruction.. that made her feel sick.
"I doubt that's a possibility. My conclusion is." Pabbie looked at the girls. "Someone came off one of those ships and all they had to do was infect one person and it would spread like wildfire. Probably a sailor who didn't realize he was sick in the first place. As you two have said you can be sick and not even notice it. He could've thought he had seasickness or something of the sort. It takes only ONE person to make a mistake and it can effect the entire world."
"Wow." Anna shook her head. "And there's no way we can tell who that person is now or where they're from!"
"True... Who has the time to sit down and figure that out? That would take forever. It's impossible." Elsa shook her head. "Well.. We can't do anything about that now... How do we control it? Can we stop it?"
"Can you stop it?" Anna asked Pabbie still hugging Elsa's arm like her favorite toy. "Anything?"
"Keep doing what you're doing." Pabbie looked at the girls. "I have an idea but I need to run it past the others But I will be in touch in a few days I promise. Stay away from people. Stay inside the castle. Limit the traffic throughout Arendelle like you have."
"That's it?" Anna looked at him and Elsa gave her a side glare. "I'm sorry I'm not trying to be rude or ungrateful but I just..."
"I'm sorry I didn't reach your expectations Anna." Pabbie looked at her. "But I promise give me a few days."
"It's okay.. I'm sorry." Anna looked between the two. "Thank you so much for taking the time Pabbie. Are you sure you're okay? People didn't overreact seeing you?"
"I am fine and most of them are seeing things that aren't there anyways." He shrugged. "I was just a figment of their imagination." He offered an amused grin and then shifted his gaze Anna's left. "Elsa. You and I have to talk."
"Okay..."
"I'll leave you two alone." Anna slowly let go of Elsa's arm and gave her a small smile. Getting up she excused herself and headed for the door. Shutting it behind her she let out a small growl before heading down the hallway. She wasn't exactly happy with what she was told. In fact if she took the time to sit down and think about it she probably could've come up with the same conclusions. However Pabbie did say he would speak with her again so obviously he had a plan of some sorts. Not telling the Queen about it gave her mixed emotions and she felt more powerless than before. "Stay inside. Do what you're doing." She scoffed and rolled her eyes. "This is crap, Karen." She passed a painting of an older woman scolding some young boys. "Least it wasn't the food." Anna paused. Could someone really be capable of doing this on purpose? In doing so they also harmed their own people. Who could do that? It would take an evil individual to conjure up such an idea and follow through. Anna had made her way down the hall and she motioned for a guard to come closer. "Can you do me a favor?" He nodded. "Will you go stand guard by my office please? I need you to escort the troll, Grand Pabbie out to the stables when he is finished."
The guard nodded and headed to his post. She needed to clear her mind and think for just a second. The meeting with Pabbie wasn't horrible. In fact he encouraged her even more now to be comfortable with her sexuality. She couldn't thank him enough for that. She would have to sit and discuss some things with Elsa. When Kristoff comes back she will see him and converse with him as well. She needed to check in on him and make sure he was really okay. She got answers and she was thankful for the ones she got but she still felt powerless about this plague. Maybe they should name it?
So now they know how it most likely spread? Okay. What the heck do they do with that? Damage is done. It was most likely an accident. We'll go with that. The person who had it first probably isn't alive anymore. Sure she was curious about who it was and where the hell did they get it? But to sit down and looked at the huge picture and pin point where it started first and whom was impossible. It was literally the next day and all over the map had it. Which also made her question yet again. How could someone travel that fast? Either way she respected Pabbie's words and she would wait to see what he had in mind. She knew she would have to sit down with the council and decide what to do next. She had to shutdown. No more outsiders. No more trade. Her head hurt just thinking about it.
"My Queen." Anna looked over and saw Mattias approaching her from the west hall. "I'm eager to know what the troll guy found out?"
"Oh!" Anna shook her head. "He uh he needs to discuss his further plans with the others."
"What?" He arched an eyebrow.
"I know right!?" Anna growled but added. "I'm sure he can help which is great. Also.. I guess this illness is complicated like we already knew but, we're trying to determine where it came from. He suggested some sailor from another kingdom but how did he get it?"
"The world works in mysterious ways, my Queen." Mattias nodded. "These things happen I've read about them. Whole countries lost. Cities gone. Population zero. History tends to repeat itself."
"You're so comforting." She frowned suddenly feeling even more depressed.
"Sorry. It's a harsh reality... no one ever knows where these things start or how but the truth will come out." He shrugged. "Where is he? I should be escorting him back."
"He's talking to Elsa." Anna nodded. "Once he's done I'm having him escorted to the stables. You guys can meet him there. Take care of him please."
"Of course." He smiled. "Is Elsa okay?" Anna looked at him. "She seemed a little off earlier. I saw her and the snowman."
"I'm sure she's okay." Anna bit her lip. "She's trying to adjust being back home and she's not sleeping well. I assure you she isn't sick!"
"Okay okay." He chuckled. "Well, take care of her. We're happy to have her back with us."
He gave Anna a bow and bid her good evening before marching away. Anna was curious. So she was with Olaf. Maybe Anna could go find him and ask him what they were up to. Then again she needed to trust Elsa and if something was wrong she would come to her. Anna had to quit over thinking already. Elsa was a grown woman… yes… a grown woman… a nice filled out… pretty.. no gorgeous woman… A woman who- wait… when did I end up in the garden? She looked up and watched the sky through the glass ceiling. It was turning pink. They had shut the roof because it was starting to get chilly at night. Anna decided it was best to give Elsa space and not barge in on her conversation. So she headed back to her room. Hopefully a servant cleaned since her and Elsa were having another sleep over.
For some reason Anna suddenly had an issue with Elsa's coming in and seeing her laundry and papers thrown all over the place. She was a Queen now... and Elsa was so neat and tidy. Anna prayed that she could get some answers and help as well from Pabbie. Then her mind shifted to other important things. Food. They had a heavy late lunch.. perhaps something light like dessert? They could skip dinner right? Anna smiled softly and skipped away down the hall hoping to dodge anyone from her council. She would see them all in the morning. It had been such a long day and she needed to freshen up a little and prepare for Elsa. She still had to get out of her travel clothes that she wore all damn day. She was so tired earlier that she fell asleep before changing. She made it up to her bedroom and thankfully a servant had cleaned up. She let out a sigh and headed across the room towards her closet shedding clothes as she went. She grabbed her night clothes and wrapped up in her robe. Eyeing the trail of clothing she left across the floor that was clean just seconds ago. She let out a sigh and cleaned up her mess discarding them in their proper place to be cleaned tomorrow. Any room she entered she was like Hurricane Anna.
Once she washed up and smelled a lot better she did her wet hair in her signature braids that way it would have a curl tomorrow. She pulled on her green nightgown that had little golden goat designs along the bottom of the fabric. While she was in the wash room the servant girl, Lyric, brought in a tray of fresh strawberries dipped in the finest of chocolate. Plus some tea or warm milk which ever was preferred. Elsa's conversation with Pabbie was taking a little longer than she had thought it would. Definitely a lot longer than Anna's visit. Perhaps though Elsa had more complicating things that needed to tend to. All Anna had was her sexuality issues and oh she's in love with her sister. No big deal right? Right? Of course she didn't unveil that information.
Then there came the knock on the door and Anna quickly braced herself. Okay. Do I look fine? Is my hair okay? It always looks like this I'm fine. I'm fine! Should I sit like this? Should I lay down? Should I do anything? What if I sat like this? Nope too much leg. Okay. Be normal! "Come in!" Her voice was a little too loud and she scolded herself. Oops. The door opened and Elsa slowly stepped inside. Was she hesitant? Was she forcing that smile? Gosh I'm an over thinker. Elsa had changed into a light blue night gown that was unfortunately hidden under the purple robe she was wearing. Damn it. Why does she look so… nervous?
"Hey..." Anna sat there in the middle of the bed her legs folded under her and hands in her lab. The green nightgown complimenting her skin and eye color. "How did it go?"
"Fine." Elsa shrugged shutting the door behind her.
"Fine? That's it?" Anna looked at her. "No juicy details?"
"You gonna tell me yours?" Elsa asked moving towards her.
"Oh is this going to be a you show me yours I'll show you mine sort of thing?" Anna laughed. "Not like.. I have anything you'd wanna see... I mean... you sure do but I don't... wait... this is coming out wrong. I mean if you're into that I don't judge I'm down but it wouldn't be fair to you!"
"Anna." Elsa sat down on the edge of the bed and turned to face her. "Shhh."
"Yeah I know I'm rambling." She laughed. "Sorry! But you really wanna know what he said?"
"Kinda." Elsa looked at her. "But you don't have to... It was a private conversation for a reason."
"I do feel a whole lot better." Anna smiled softly. "I feel more secure..." Elsa nodded. "Don't you?"
"I don't know what to feel.." Elsa frowned. "He gave me answers but I don't know what to do with them."
"He kinda did the same with me." Anna shrugged. "But I know what you mean. He answered my questions and told me of my dreams... Apparently I'm bottling things up..." Elsa kinda perked up a bit. "And I need to let it out."
"But You've already told Kristoff and I..."
"Yeeeaaaah."
"What else are you hiding?" Elsa sounded a little offended all of a sudden. "What else is happening?"
"Hey wait..." Anna scooted a little closer. "What ever you're thinking you stop it. Okay?"
"We made a promise not to lock each other out remember?" Elsa looked at her.
"Yeah I remember. Hey! What about you? What are you hiding?" Now Anna was getting defensive.
"What?" Elsa eyed her.
"Don't look at me that way. I've been upfront with you. I came out to you." Anna looked at her. "And now you're acting like I'm the one shutting you out." Elsa went to say something and Anna cut her off. "Okay listen. I know you... I know you're shy... I know you're guarded and it's easy for you to lock people out without you knowing it." Elsa blinked. "But you don't have to do that with me.."
"I know. I haven't been fair." Elsa let out a sigh. "You've shared so much with me.. I guess I have been kinda mysterious."
"Uh YEAH." Anna nodded. "Ya think?"
It was true. Anna was doing all she could to get a reaction from her sister. Hell Anna was making moves and tossing out the compliments and upped her game and Elsa wasn't biting. Elsa wasn't good at this obviously. Did she even notice!? Anna tossed the line out multiple times and Elsa wasn't taking the bait. Maybe.. She wasn't into this taboo fantasy like Anna was? And if she wasn't what could she do? Nothing. Anna would respect Elsa's choices and her feelings. Anna wasn't exactly expecting her to confess her love and get married five seconds later. She knew this was different.. this was something that shouldn't be. It played out beautifully in Anna's mind but she knew in reality it had a high chance to explode in her face. She had to find out what Elsa liked first or didn't like.
"Sorry for being defensive. You know you can talk to me..." Anna looked at her and brushed some hair from Elsa's face tucking it behind her ear. "Or someone..."
"Olaf." Elsa looked at her. "That's where I was... I just... while we were talking I just felt this intense build up in my chest. My powers. I needed to think. I needed to get control." She looked down. "He happened to be there without my knowledge and... he actually helped me."
"That wise snowman." Anna grinned. "You said while we were talking... was I triggering you in some way? I know it was heavy subject matter." Elsa didn't say anything and Anna frowned. Poor girl. She scooted across the mattress and wrapped her arms around Elsa's shoulders from behind. Hugging her back against Anna's chest she rested her head against hers. Content. Fit. Like a puzzle piece. "I love you." She mumbled against Elsa's temple. "So much."
"Love you." Elsa said softly. Her hand came back and brushed her fingers along Anna's cheek, stroking her skin with soft fingers. She felt... relaxed suddenly and kept her eyes on the floor in front of her. "Always."
Again they found themselves in a position. In a spot. The air was still except for beating hearts. Anna's chest ached and she longed for these moments. So close. So far. Her lips stayed pressed to Elsa's temple and she gave it another kiss. Anna could smell her hair and feel actual warm skin underneath. Wow she wasn't cold. That was something new. Anna's arms tightened around her. The feeling of her sister's fingers moving up toying with her hair and her nails massaging into her scalp ever so gently. In a comforting manner. Gosh! It felt great. Anna could feel this stirring sensation in her lower tummy and her chest fluttered. Her whole body was tingling and her eyes closed. She didn't want to move. Make this last forever.
Elsa leaned back a little, resting against her sister's chest further. Anna was happy to hold her. Turning her head a little she rested her chin on Elsa's shoulder. She could see the blush upon her pale skin and Anna couldn't help but smirk. Oh so that's why she's all warm! She's blushing! Maybe flustered? Did I do that?! Her arms moved down so she could wrap them around her middle. Her hands linked together just under Elsa's breasts so she was locked into place.
"You know what?" Elsa asked softly her fingers still toying with Anna's hair.
"What?" Anna asked with a smile.
"I've never felt so safe..."
"You're always safe with me." Anna whispered. "I'm your knight remember?" Elsa chuckled softly and nodded her head. "No matter where we are... what we're doing.. You'll always have me." She felt Elsa's free hand rest on top of her own that were still locked in place. "I'd climb any mountain... again." She smirked. "I'd walk through fire... again..." Elsa smiled. "I'd swim the oceans... I'd face any storm... I'd fight giants and armies.. Elsa just to be there with you." Silence. Anna didn't wanna shift her eyes to see the expression on Elsa's face she just wanted to feel her in her arms. Make her FEEL.. Not think... just feel the love she had for her. "Pabbie told me not to apologize for who I am..." She hummed soft words of encouragement. "Or who I wanna be with..." Nothing?
"He told me to be afraid." Elsa said bluntly.
BUZZ KILL
"He what?!" Anna asked loudly, pulling back and looking at her. "Afraid? Of what?"
"Who I am." Elsa stated. "What I am."
"You're kidding?" By this time Anna released Elsa from her grip. She was propped up behind her on her knees, towering over her. "He did not."
"He did and among other things.." Elsa shrugged looking up at her sister. "Why do you think I'm so confused?"
"Surely you misunderstood him." Anna looked at her. "Be afraid of who you are? What the heck! That troll is really doing a number on your confidence." Anna glared. "What else did he say?"
"My powers. My dreams. My... person. Everything. I need to be afraid of what can happen." Elsa shook her head. "He just... one minute he was proud of me and my control and the next? Anna I'm scared. What if I hurt you? What if I hurt Arendelle? What if I can't get ahold on whatever it is inside me? My powers?"
"Elsa. You're not going to hurt anyone. You're not gonna do anything like that. You're strong. You're stubborn! That's a good thing." Anna bit her lip and let her hand rest on Elsa's shoulder. "Maybe you're having the same problem I am? You have something inside you need to let out? Your nightmares and all that might go away. That's what he told me to do." Elsa still looked a little shook and Anna sighed. "And here I tried to make tonight special and encouraging and… He deflated it."
"I'm sorry."
"No don't apologize..." Anna leaned down and kissed Elsa's hair. "It can still be special."
"Let's not think of Pabbie right now." Elsa scooted up further onto the bed and turned to face Anna. "I want to think about the important things that matter. You and me."
"Oh?" Anna smiled. Okay okay this could be going back into the right direction. Back on track. "Yes. Let's focus on that."
"Mountains. Fire. Oceans. Storms. Giants." Elsa smirked and arched an eyebrow. "All that for little me?"
"Oh god yes." Anna said with a heavy sigh and an adoring look on her face.
"Thank you..."
"I mean it Elsa... I'd do anything to you... for you..." Anna gave a big smile. "For you." Oops.
"You deserve only the best you know that?" Elsa smiled bringing her hand up to cup Anna's cheek. "You have brought out only the best in me. I'll never stop loving you for that." Anna blushed and Elsa could feel the warmth against her palm. "You deserve nothing but pure, unconditional love..."
"I already got that don't I?" Anna smiled softly.
"From me? No question." Elsa smiled back.
"Then I got all I need. All I could ever want."
The pair looked at each other.. eyes locked for the millionth time that day. Anna was still sitting a little taller than Elsa. Which Anna could get use to the view, looking down at her sister. Those beautiful blue eyes just glowing and filled to the brim with adoration and love. Anna felt this tug at her heart and her stomach again... and was she inching closer? Anna was slowly moving closer like a magnetic pull took over. Her breath was caught in her throat as there was just inches between them. Okay. It's happening! Anna brought her hand up and her fingers brushed along Elsa's shoulder. Eyes heavy, they could feel each other's breath against their lips. Okay Anna. This is it. One shot. One shot! Just as Anna was gonna take the plunge Elsa turned her head and muffled a cough into her shoulder. The swift motion caused Anna to almost press a kiss to Elsa's ear but she caught herself. DAMN IT!
"Excuse me." Elsa cleared her throat and removed her hand from Anna's face. "I think that trip got to me. And I assure you I'm..." She paused catching Anna's flustered expression. "Not sick... You okay?"
"YES." Her voice was a little too loud and Elsa leaned back a little alarmed. "I am JUST FINE." Anna inhaled sharply and slid off the bed and snarled as she headed for the tray of chocolate. "I need sugar."
Gah!! Anna grabbed a chocolate strawberry. Taking a bite of the sweet juicy treat she pondered for a second. Why in the hell would Pabbie scare Elsa like that? Be afraid of who she is!? She's brilliant! She's amazing! She's a gift. An angel. She had to keep thinking and try to fizzle out the tingling sensation in her stomach. Anna had to do so much damage control over the past many years to build Elsa's confidence. Remind her she's perfect how she is. Not to be afraid of who she is and her powers. Embrace it! For the most part she was but now?
"You know I don't understand a lot of things but especially trolls." Anna said with an annoyed tone. "I mean he didn't give up any sort of answers. He made you feel cruddy!" She finished her strawberry. "I don't get it."
"I guess they work in mysterious ways." Elsa said softly, sitting back against the pillows. She watched Anna who had her back to her down her strawberries like they were shots of liquor. Her drug of choice right now. "Don't get so upset over it..."
"It's hard not to." She grabbed another strawberry and chewed angrily. "What ever he plans to do better be good." She spun around and faced her sister. "And you." She grabbed a strawberry. "You're amazing and perfect and I'm so proud of you for your control and what you are. It's not fair."
Anna crossed the room and handed Elsa a strawberry before she ate them all. She felt a little better now she has something sweet even if she'd rather have something else. Watching Elsa eat the chocolate fruit she climbed up into the spot next to her. Elsa didn't say anything just enjoyed her treat. She observed her. Her hands were so soft and gentle, cooling anything with just a touch. Anna desperately wanted to feel the coldness rush all over her body. To simmer out this damn fire she has burning inside her. Her lips looked so tasty and she just wanted to feel them against hers. Why was that task so difficult? Because it's suppose to be idiot. Nothing about this is suppose to be easy.
Bringing her arms up over her head she stretched and casually let her arm wrap around Elsa's shoulders. Kristoff did that all the time with Anna when he wanted to be close. Let's take some pointers from the Reindeer King shall we? Elsa didn't seem to mind at all and Anna scooted a little closer to her. This was normal after all. They were always this close so maybe that's why Elsa didn't notice much. Anna grinned and gave Elsa's shoulder a comforting squeeze. The had fallen silent for a moment as Elsa chewed and Anna pondered.
"Kristoff didn't out me." Anna said softly and Elsa quickly looked at her. "You were right…" They shared a small smile. "Pabbie handled that rather well to be honest. He doesn't understand human relationhips thank goodness."
"What did he say?" Elsa arched an eyebrow.
"I asked him if it would be so odd if a Queen doesn't you know… take up a King.. or run a Kingdom solo." Anna hummed chewing her lower lip as she stared at at her feet. Clicking her heels together like she was a little antsy. "He said it was unheard of because as you know my sister, women are objects and need men to survive." Elsa let out a heavy sigh and rolled her eyes. "But he kept mentioning how a solo Queen or a Queen with a Queen is unheard of but Arendelle is like totally accepting…." She paused and glanced at Elsa. "He said that our people love us so much… they're fine with us ruling you know…. Like… together or yeah ya know."
"Well I never had a problem with being accepted as a woman. My powers are a different story so of course. I didn't think you would have a problem ruling as a woman." Elsa stared at her.
"Youmissedthepoint." Anna said quickly and tightened her arm around her.
"Now ruling with another woman.. when do you think that will happen?" Elsa averted her gaze down to her hands.
"Uh…" Anna rapidly blinked. "I don't know… I mean I just came to terms with the whole idea! I haven't even kissed one let alone think about marriage!"
"Sorry I didn't mean to make your head hurt."
"But…" Anna hummed in thought. "I think it would be nice…" She bit her lip and gave Elsa a side glance. "To kiss one… I mean you're so soft- Eh they're so soft and warm.." Goodness you idiot… Anna tugged on her collar a little bit, her other fingers toying with the fabric on Elsa's shoulder. "I find the idea to be interesting and exciting and to be honest not as nerve wracking as it was to kiss a guy for the first time. It's like reliving a first kiss all over again!" Elsa didn't respond and was just a little too quiet. Anna was curious what was going on in her head. She knew it probably wasn't the same things she was thinking at the moment. The poor girl's emotions were probably going through the ringer right now with Pabbie bein' all sorts of difficult. "What about you?"
"What about me?" Elsa's voice finally cut through the silence.
"Have you had your first kiss yet?"
"Noooooooo." Elsa turned her head and gave her a funny look. She knew Anna heavily into all this cute intimate stuff. Like love at first sight and your first kiss and your first dance and your first crush and your first whatever else. Her and Elsa didn't exactly talk about that stuff though. When you had one sister that showed zero interest in romance you kinda didn't have those types of conversations. "Why would I?"
"Right." Stupid question Anna. "I just I wasn't sure if you ever... you've been gone for awhile.."
"What do you think I'm doing when I'm in the forest?" Elsa gave her an amused look. "I'm not frolicking with anyone in the leaves." This time Anna blushed. "No. I'm not experienced with anything or anyone in any way. You know how intimate things scare me."
"But you don't need to be." Anna smiled softly. "You have complete control of your powers! Sure they go a little crazy every now and then but who doesn't love crazy!?"
"Annnnd that's what got you in trouble with Hans." Elsa chuckled.
"Being desperate and stupid got me in trouble with Hans." Anna rolled her eyes. "Which by the way I'm totally in control now and I've learned from my mistakes!"
"Still though I don't think… I'm going to be wandering down the road of firsts for a very long time."
"Why not?"
"Why do you sound so disappointed?" Elsa couldn't help but laugh. "It's my first kiss not yours."
"But it's… special… something we should all experience.. not just with anyone but that's special. Someone you love or at least like very very much."
"Anna you're a helpless romantic." Elsa bit her lip as Anna just stared at her. There was something in her eyes that Elsa couldn't exactly read. Or… perhaps… maybe she could and she wasn't sure what to do next. Maybe that look in her sister's eye scared her? It took her a few moments to finally force her eyes from Anna's. "You know how I feel about being touched or touching."
"I know but don't you wanna love someone? Show that love? Kiss them? Hold them?" Anna smiled with a sense of wonder in her eyes. "Loving someone. Sharing your life with them? Share your most intimate secrets, moments..." aren't they already doing that? Most of it anyways. "And for the record you let me touch you."
"That's different… I don't want to have a relationship." Elsa shook her head. "It would take too much of my attention away from what really matters."
"And... what is that?" Anna's heart was kinda sinking.
"You!" Elsa smiled and took her hand. "You! Our Kingdom!" Anna gave a small smile. "I've had offers... in the forest there was someone but... I couldn't because I just... Plus when I was Queen I had engagements but I turned them all down."
So Olaf wasn't completely wrong. There was someone in the forest that possibly tried. Just didn't have the name right and didn't Olaf say it was a girl? Anna remembered when Elsa was getting those possible engagement letters. It started right after the big snow storm. Anna hated it. Princes and Kings were sending her all kinds of stuff. It always got under Anna's skin and Kristoff would often joke about it. She hated it. She didn't want to watch some stupid man putting his hands all over her sister. She was always so thankful when she found all those proposals in the trash.
"What if those engagements came from a princess? Or a Queen?" Anna asked so boldly.
"Oh." Elsa took in a sharp breath and held it for a moment. Okay that was an interesting question. "I... no. I wouldn't... I won't lie it would've been far more pleasant." She laughed it off. "Less scary but no."
"I always saw you with.." Me. "A girl." She paused. "I mean it took me years to even picture you with ANYONE. Miss. Independent. I know you're not as open as I am. I'm an open book right?" Elsa nodded. "But I'm keeping a chapter or two hidden..." Elsa's expression changed to confusion. "Don't be offended! I wanna tell you everything. I want to let you know."
"You can." Elsa's hand tightened around hers. "I wont judge you.. but I'm not going to force you."
"It's nothing horrible. It's not bad. I haven't done anything. I'm not hiding bodies or anything! I just... I have a thought..." Anna ran a nervous hand through her hair. "A feeling.. an urge... a need... Have you ever had that? A desire?"
"Hmmm.." Elsa hummed and bit her tongue. She could feel Anna's eyes on her yet again and she slowly let their gaze meet once more. Again. Something was swirling in her younger sister's eyes and it made Elsa's heart race. The way those teal eyes looked into her's and then they darted downward and then back up to meet Elsa's bright blue eyes. She knew what it felt like to have a desire yes. A need? Yes.. an urge. that made you perhaps second guess yourself… goodness yes. Elsa took her lower lip between her teeth as she shifted her gaze. She squeezed Anna's hand.. "Oh Anna…" She said so softly she almost didn't hear it herself. "What…. What is it?"
"I uh... I'm... I'm so..." Anna stuttered again. Forming words was hard. Difficult. Damn it! Say it. Let's go! You're in love with her. "I..." Elsa brushed her thumb along her knuckles encouraging her. Heart pounding. Stomach full of butterflies. "I... Elsa...?"
"What?" Elsa let out a breath and then felt a finger under her chin, turning her head upward so she could meet Anna's eyes for the millionth time. "What is it?"
"I just..." Without any second thought she did it. Keeping her finger hooked under her chin, swiftly she leaned into her and pressed her lips against her sister's. Giving Elsa her first kiss.
