Episode 5: A Disastrous First Date

It's now November and things have finally settled into a routine for the residents of Maple Inn. Mayu is studying hard as a middle schooler. Kouta is beginning to take his college courses seriously and turn his GPA around, thanks in no small part to some study assistance from Nyuu. Nana has focused on mastering cooking and redeeming herself after her first few calamitous attempts with Mayu. Yuka has now moved back with her parents temporarily and will transferring to a better university in Tokyo next semester. She agreed to keep Nyuu's secret from her parents, but unlike Kouta she couldn't really bring herself to forgive her. Yuka had apologized for slapping her, but their reconciliation was still a rather frigid affair.

Nyuu: "Thanks for taking the time to come with me! I know you have that history test next week, but Arakawa really wanted us to come to the clinic together. I'm guessing she'll have a lot of questions about our relationship."

Kouta: "I like Dr. Arakawa, but she does get a little too nosey sometimes. Hopefully, she won't be too bad today.

As they walk into the small clinic, they see Arakawa already waiting with a clipboard and pen.

Arakawa: "Come with me back to the lab section. I want to run a few tests while we talk. Nothing serious, just some basic health examinations. So how have you two been getting along?"

Kouta: "I'd say pretty great. We share the chores, act as joint guardians to Mayu and Nana, and Nyuu has been helping me study."

Arakawa: "I mean in a romantic sense. I'm interested in just how compatible humans and diclonius are in terms of relationship building. Have you been on any dates?"

Kouta: "We go to the beef bowl pretty often"

Arakawa: "That is DEFINITELY not a date!"

Nyuu: "We've been spending time doing important things like visiting Kouta's family and focusing on his studying and career path, so I've really not pushed for something so frivolous as a date."

Kouta: "But…I'm picking up in your voice that you would like to go on one soon, right?"

Nyuu: "Yeah…I'm not very good at hiding my emotions.

Kouta: "That's ok, I happen to love that about you!"

Arakawa: "Is there someplace special you two would like to go? I'd pay for it, but only if I get to tag along and take observational data."

Nyuu: "Well…there is a special place that Kouta and I visited as children. It's the place where I first fell in love with him."

Kouta: "You want to go to the Kanazawa Zoo? I should have known! I had always thought I was enthusiastic about seeing the exotic animals until I met you. I've never seen anyone who loves animals quite as much! Remember how excited you got seeing the elephant and giraffes for the first time?! You need to see this Dr. Arakawa; it is the cutest thing ever!"

Nyuu: "Oh come on! Don't embarrass me. I don't get THAT excited seeing various zoo animals!"

(Cut immediately to Zoo)

Nyuu: "OH MY GOD! I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE ANIMALS CAN GET THIS BIG! HE'S SOOO CUUUTE!"

Kouta: "So…as you see, Nyuu has a thing for elephants.

Arakawa: "Yes…I'm picking up on that.

Nyuu: "Are those tapirs?! YES! This zoo has okapi now! Oh my God, I'm in paradise!"

The pink haired girl clad in a ski cap ran back and forth between exhibits acting like a small child on Christmas morning. After a while, they stopped to get a quick lunch at the zoo's Takoyaki stand and ate in the indoor area since it was getting colder outside.

Arakawa: "So, I notice that Nyuu's horns are rapidly growing back to their original size. Does this impact your attraction in anyway Kouta?"

Kouta: "I've always thought her horns were cool and honestly super cute! So, of course I don't mind she's starting to get horny!"

Nyuu: "This is what I deal with every day. He has the worst jokes! He should at least wait until I'm carrying our child before telling jokes of that caliber!"

Kouta: "You know you love my sophisticated wit!"

Nyuu: (rolls her eyes and smiles before giving him a loving kiss)

Arakawa: (speaking in a low tone) "So…have you guys….um….you know"

Kouta: "I'm not answering that. That's our private business and you'll know when we're ready to tell you."

Nyuu: "It's ok Kouta. She's just doing her job as a researcher. I also owe her quite a bit since she's the reason I'm able to live this life with you. To answer your question, we haven't gone as far as actual penetration just yet. It's just that my first sexual experience at the facility was so horrible that it still makes me a little nervous and scared. Even though Kouta is undoubtedly the sweetest and most gentle guy in the universe.

Kouta: (holds her hand) "It's ok Nyuu, no need to rush things. We'll just take our time, and it will happen when you're ready for it to happen."

Nyuu: (squeezes his hand back) "Thanks Kouta. I love you so much sweetie!"

Arakawa: (fangirl squeal) "OMG you guys are so cute together! Wait…gotta stay professional. Come on Arakawa! You're a respected researcher with a phD in genetics…you can do this!"

Kouta: "You really are the quirky scientist from every manga ever! You're like our Otacon!"

Arakawa: "I am NOT like Otacon! Hal Emmerich is a robotics expert! I'm a geneticist! That's as far from robotics as you can get! Even though back at Tokyo U their building for applied robotics engineering was next to the genetic engineering building.

Nyuu: "Ok, I'm lost. What the hell are you guys talking about?"

Kouta: "Sorry Nyuu, it's from a long series of video games called…never mind. Don't worry about it!"

Arakawa: "So…after the zoo I bought us tickets to a movie and made some dinner reservations at a seafood place I really enjoy."

Kouta: "You really went all out, didn't you? I have to say I'm impressed with how much planning you did."

After returning home from the restaurant, Arakawa brought out several bottles of Yamazaki as a final gift.

Arakawa: "This is the best stuff! Trust me! Oh, and if anything happens tonight after I go home, please call me right away!"

Kouta: "Good night, Dr. Arakawa!" (slides door in her face)

Lucy: "So…it looks like Mayu and Nana are already in bed. How about we finally spend a little time alone together? I actually do want to try out some of that stuff Arakawa got us!

Kouta: "Have you ever had alcohol before?"

Nyuu: (shakes her head) "There are a lot of things I've never experienced before. Alcohol is certainly one of them."

Kouta: "I tried to drink a little sake back in high school to show off to some classmates, but…it didn't go well. I'm kind of a lightweight."

Nyuu chuckled at the thought of Kouta acting like a stereotypical dumb highschooler and trying to show off. She had read that alcohol could calm the nerves and she certainly felt like she needed that right now. She wanted this so badly, but she was also terrified of all the things that could go wrong. What if he changed his mind and no longer found her attractive?! What if they were incompatible in bed and he started to have thoughts about other girls?! She knew this was unfair to the extremely faithful Kouta, but after a lifetime of being treated as a monster her self-esteem was still quite poor. Also weighing on her mind was the painful and traumatic memories of her first sexual experiences with that disgusting guard. What if it hurt like that and felt that awful, even if Kouta was trying to please her?

Kouta was just as nervous in his own way. He had never been great academically, was bullied throughout high school, and wasn't sure he'd ever find someone. Just last year he had been pretty certain he would die a virgin. Now he was sitting at a table across from this beautiful woman who was more attractive than him, smarter than him, stronger than him, and would be the one defending him if a burglar were to break in. Just what was he offering her? She definitely thought he was nice, but did she really love him that way? What if he was awful at sex and it was a crushing disappointment for her? What if his traumatic memories of the past came up halfway into making love and he found himself repulsed?!

Both drank glass after glass attempting to drown their uncertainties. However, despite him weighing slightly more and Nyuu drinking substantially more, Kouta was getting drunk far quicker.

Kouta: "What the hell is in this sake?! Whyyyy would someone make sake this sss-strong?!"

Nyuu: "Honey, this isn't sake. This is technically whiskey, so it's about…um…3.5 times stronger in terms of alcohol by volume."

Kouta: "You can still do math?! How..why are not drunk yet?!"

Nyuu: "I'm definitely a bit drunk, just not quite so much as you. I don't recall my mutation raising alcohol tolerance level but I could be wrong. Maybe my parents were drunks? Anyways, let's stop drinking now. I…want to sleep in your bed tonight."

The young couple drunkenly stumbled into Kouta's bedroom with Nyuu physically supporting Kouta the entire way.

Nyuu: "I'll…carry you if I have to, but I still want to be the girl!"

Kouta went into the bathroom to splash some water on his face and use the toilet. He needed to try pull himself together in order to finally make his move!

Nyuu: "Are…you sure you want to do this? You're still pretty drunk."

Kouta: "I'm fffine. I want to make you to love! I mean make love to you!"

The young couple removed their clothes, and he began to fumble awkwardly with her bra.

Nyuu: (warmly assuring) "Just get on the bed honey, I'll take it off for you."

Nyuu tried to look her sexiest stripping off her bra and panties, which drove Kouta wild. They began to kiss passionately, but in his incredibly drunken state he ashamedly was having a hard time getting it up.

Kouta: "I'm…ssssorry! I can't even…I'm so pathetic!"

Nyuu: "It's ok honey, we just drank a little too much tonight. We're in no rush. I actually think this is better, since I want to remember our first time clearly."

Nyuu snuggled up to him and gently comforted him.

Kouta: "You're so…so sweet Nyuu!"

Nyuu: "I'm really, really not, but I'm glad there's one person on Earth who thinks so."

Nyuu turned out the lights and within 10 minutes, both were soundly asleep in each other's warm embrace.

Sunlight poured through the window the next morning. Kouta quickly turned away from the light and buried his face in the pillow. His head felt like it was in a vice.

Kouta: Oh God…am I dead? Is this hell? Nyuu! Wake up! I think I'm bleeding out. My whole body is lying in a warm pool of blood. I'll always love you!

Nyuu: "Um…Kouta you're not dying. You're just hungover. Also, that's definitely not blood we're lying in. That's about 2 liters of recycled whiskey. I'm…sorry this keeps happening. I'll help you clean it up this time!

Kouta: "Really? You somehow managed to pee yourself AGAIN! I thought you got that out of your system when Yuka and I first brought you home!"

Nyuu: "After last night I still had a LOT left to get out of my system!"

Nyuu giggled at her awful joke as Kouta groaned deeply and pressed his palm against his face.

Kouta: "You're lucky I love you so much. Do you think we could maybe…try this whole thing again tonight. Only without drinking that cursed Hell sake?!"

Nyuu: (blushes slightly) "Of course sweetie! I'm not nervous anymore. After all, it couldn't possibly go worse than last night! (Nyuu Kisses him lovingly on the forehead and helps him to the shower)
