All Might got up from his seat and walked over to a nearby seat with a pile of papers in his hands.
Thank you, Aizawa," All Might said, smiling guiltily. "I don't know what I would have done without your help."
"You would have learned how to make a curriculum on your own without relying on me," Aizawa brushed him off and told him to return to my seat.
"You've been busy lately, with the police and the headmaster," Present Mic remarked, looking at the computer. "Don't worry, you've always helped us so much, so it's our turn to help you."
All Might grinned sadly and sat down. He thought sadly that now he had to rely more and more on others to help him.
"That's right, I need your help. Doesn't that bother you?"
"No, never mind," Aizawa brushed it aside and turned to the papers. "Instead of standing here, you'd better do what you do best."
"Me? And what's that?"
There was a sharp sound that indicated a new message.
"If you'll excuse me."
"Cancel training with Izuku. Bakugou Katsuki".
"Did something happen?" muttered All Might, but decided that asking now was not the best option.
"Good, I hope you're ok."
"Nothing is fine. And if you think it's OK to just ignore the fact that she's been taking on too much lately, YOU'RE WRONG! Cancel trainings this week".
From the tone of the message and the large letters at the end of All Might, he knew that Bakugou was serious.Even now, without his help, he couldn't figure out that young Midoriya was in trouble. Where was the time when one could rely on him and not the other way round?
"All right, All Might?" asked Present Mic, looking at the monitor again. "You look agitated."
"Please don't listen to Kacchan, All Might. There's no need to cancel anything. I'm fine."
All Might stood up decisively and adjusted his collar. He looked around at the other teachers and nodded at Aizawa. He knew that he would understand even without words, for when it came to his students, the teacher understood everything very well.
"Where is he going?"
Aizawa just shook his head and turned away: "He's going to do what he does best."
The front of the dormitory was also full of puddles. It seemed as if it had just rained and the sun was peeking out. But the sky was beginning to frown again, as if the cold drops were about to fall to the ground again and pour down rain. All Might was running this way, his shoes and trousers soaking wet. He stopped to catch his breath and bumped into Midoriya, who was walking back.
The girl's eyes were wet with tears, but she didn't look upset. Just a little depressed. Her shoulders were slumped and she looked even smaller than usual. When she saw the teacher, she hastily rubbed her face, trying to hide the fact that she had been crying recently.
"All Might," she said, even though she had already wiped away the tears, her voice still trembled slightly. "What are you doing here?"
All Might smiled: "I'm doing what I've been able to do so far."
Midoriya looked at the teacher in confusion. She was glad that he was with her now, but the reason for his arrival was still unclear to her.
"Would you like to go for a walk?"
That was enough to make Midoriya perk up immediately. Her eyes darted quickly from one side to the other. On the one hand, she still had a lot to do today, but on the other hand, it was not very polite to refuse All Might. Especially since he was supposed to be at work, not here.
"Of course!" Midoriya exclaimed and decided that she would get everything done if she went to bed a little later than usual. She wouldn't have to stay up too late, but she would be able to finish what she had planned.
All Might let out a sigh of relief and walked forward. Midoriya walked a little behind, but at about the same pace as her teacher. They were silent because no one could find the right words. This was different from their usual meetings, when they talked business. Remembering their secret meetings, Midoriya realised that she had not explained anything to the teacher.
"All Might, about what Kacchan wrote," Midoriya started, but Toshinori suddenly stopped. He turned towards the dormitory and looked at him. Following his example, Midoriya realised that they had already moved far enough away that they could now see the whole building. There was some movement somewhere on the third floor on the girls' side, but mostly the figures of their classmates could be seen on the ground floor.
Don't worry about it," All Might shook his head. "But can I ask you a question, young lady?"
"Yes."
"Don't you regret having this power?"
All Might's voice was unusually calm. Why this particular question. There could be nothing better for Midoria than to receive such power from a hero who had been her idol since childhood, how could she ever regret it? It was a great chance for her to finally prove herself. Her dream of becoming a hero and saving other people was no longer just a dream, but a goal that could now be fulfilled. But why did All Might choose to question her? Was she not trying hard enough, or perhaps it was the Teacher who regretted sharing this secret with her and giving her such an important power. Of course, she can't really do anything without the help of others. Where would she be without the help of her classmates, her teachers, her mother?
"Why do you ask that?" muttered Midoriya, lowering her eyes. "How could I regret such a thing? It would have been a great opportunity for anyone, let alone an quirkless like me. The fact that you chose me to take this power makes me very happy. If I don't study and train hard enough for it, you tell me, I'll try harder!"
"Wait, wait!" cried All Might, stopping the flow of words. Midoriya fell silent and stared at her teacher. "I'm not saying that I'm not happy with you. I mean I don't want you to regret your choice. I'm also your teacher, so if you're having a hard time, you can come to me. I'm not very good at teaching, and I can't promise to help you in every way, but I'm just as good at learning as you are. And for the sake of my students, for your sake, I am willing to try and learn new things.
Midoriya smiled approvingly.
"Then I'll try, too!"
All Might put his hand on Midoriya's shoulder and squeezed it slightly to show that he was always there for her.
"Let's try together!"
The clouds covered the sky again, the wind blew and ruffled her hair.
"I'm glad I found it here, glad I can learn from you. I will never regret the decision I made that day. And I want you to know that too."
Midoriya stood in front of Toshinori and looked him confidently in the eyes.
"I will make sure that you will never regret your decision."
Instead of answering, All Might just nodded. They slowly made their way back to the hostel and entered together. The other students greeted them cheerfully. Everyone had gotten used to All Might as a teacher during the first year, but it was still nice to see the former number one hero here. The students surrounded Toshinori, trying to find out why he had come and doing their best to persuade him to stay. So that All Might could speak to the others as well, Midoriya stepped aside.
"Please forgive me, but I will not be able to stay with you for long, as I would like to visit the other students as well."
"Then why are you here?" asked Mineta, receiving indignant looks from his classmates. "I was just asking!"
"I thought I should tell you. Now the exams are about to begin, so you must do your best to do well. I'm sure you'll be great heroes in the future, so let's all do our best together. You know what I want you to say. Three, two, one... Plus Ultra!"
All Might arrived on time. Examination time has always been difficult and nerve-wracking. The rainy season also spoils the mood with constant bad weather. All Might, just like in his heroic days, was like a ray of sunshine peeking through the clouds, illuminating the surroundings with a warm glow. After giving a few last tips, Toshinori walked out, saying goodbye and a few pleasant words to say goodbye.
"All Might is a true hero. Even after his retirement, he's someone we can count on," Iida said after Toshinori left. "I didn't think he'd come to support us before the mid-term elections."
"Indeed, All Might is trying so hard for us, so we have to prepare well too!" Yaoyorozu agreed, looking at her classmates. "So if we want to become real heroes like him, we have to work harder. If you suddenly need my help, don't hesitate to contact me."
"Yaoyorozu-san is right," Iida nodded. "I should support and help you, so you can come to me as well."
Midoriya smiled as she watched the people crowding around iida and Yaoyorozu. Some thanked them for their work, others took their advice and asked for help. During their first year, they had all grown closer to each other and that could only be good. Besides, Toshinori's vain worries were pointless. Even when he was gone, his example provided invisible support and strength to carry on.
Deciding that she was no longer needed here, Midoriya went up to her room. Things were different here. The cheering from downstairs was no longer audible, the lights were off and the windows were open, making the room cooler. Midoriya closed the windows, but did not turn on the lights, leaving the room in semi-darkness. No light, which made even the All Might posters look mysterious and a little intimidating. The sun had already dipped below the horizon and the clouds were getting thicker. A minute or two passed and the first drops of rain began to fall outside. The weather was getting worse.
Pulling herself together, she closed the open windows, turned on her computer and sat down to do her homework. She had a lot of work to do. Even after Bakugou took some of her work away, it didn't get any easier. The darkness seemed to press, to strain, and even turning on the light didn't help. Midoriya suffered much longer than she wanted to, which meant that she could go to bed later than usual.
