The Life of Philip & Syrena - Ch 4

Author's Note: Sorry for the delay, I know it's been a while but as promised I haven't abandoned the story. I'm still working on it albeit at a rather dismal pace, but never fear I will get it finished eventually. This was meant to be finished and released last year but alas time has flown by.

Big shoutout to an anonymous guest user who left me a lot of positive comments on the story and an even larger amount of demands to continue the story. If you'd left me an email address, I would have responded.

When I awake, I can tell that evening has fallen; Syrena is still asleep, tucked away against my side. I watch her in sleep, the rise and fall of her chest as she breathes, the pure angelic beauty of her face, making itself known more clearly than ever, in her sleeping state. My life had changed forever, I was now as much a creature of the sea as I was of the land. I was bonded to a mermaid who I loved more than life itself, she was not the terrifying creature that Blackbeard and other sailors had made her out to be, she was a kind, caring and loving girl who I was lucky enough to have had fall in love with me. I knew that no matter what happened from now on so long as I had Syrena by my side it would be worth it. Though I was decidedly nervous about meeting other mermaids, especially Syrena's sisters. I knew I would have to meet them sooner or later, the mermaids of Whitecap Bay. It didn't help that I knew most of them only had interactions with men, when said men would end up in their bellies as dinner. But my Syrena was different, and I wasn't entirely human anymore myself, I was a merman.

Syrena awakes an hour later, the first thing she sees is my gaze riveted upon her, marvelling at the beauty at my side. She smiles up at me accidently revealing her fangs in doing so. She closes her mouth to cover her fangs, but I reach down and take her hand.

"Syrena, I love you. All of you." I say to her in a gentle voice.

"That includes your fangs and glimmering tail and everything that makes you, you."

She smiles again before leaning upwards to take my mouth in her own. I kiss her back just as passionately as she kisses me. My hand travelling down her side and around her to pull her against me. We eventually pull apart at the sound of my stomach rumbling.

"You are hungry Philip?" she looks at me eyes full of love and concern. I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have her, she was my other half, my soulmate, the only one I'd ever love in this life or any life.

"Yes, I am a bit peckish." I tell her with a light kiss on her nose, she giggles as my lips make contact before breaking away and dropping down into the water.

"I'll be right back my love." And with that she disappears her tale waving goodbye to me as she dives.

I sit back against the wall and replay all the events that had led me to this moment. I'd hated every minute upon Blackbeard's ship but now I was thankful for them. If not for Blackbeard I may have spent the rest of my life without ever laying eyes upon Syrena. I would have lived a miserable life, married some woman I didn't really love or just not married at all. Syrena had saved me as much as I'd saved her if not more considering it was my fault she had been captured in the first place. Now we were mated and no matter what happened I was going to cherish every second, of every minute, of every hour, of every day, of every week, of every month, of every year, of every decade, of every century, of the rest of my life with her.

I'm awoken from my daydream by the splash signalling Syrena's return. She pulls herself back into the cave, she has some more seaweed this time along with some oysters and a small fish.

"These were all I could find my Philip…"

she trails off and I reach over and clasp her hands with a smile before taking the fish and oysters. They're raw and I close my eyes as I tentatively bite into the fish. Surprisingly, it doesn't taste or even feel bad at all, instead its quite delicious. I gobble down the rest of the fish, stopping only to remove the bones. I crack open the oysters next and using the seaweed I scoop them out their shells and enjoy the flavour of the salty seaweed combined with the flesh of the oysters.

"That was actually really good Syrena." It didn't feel or taste weird at all, a bit different but that's it.

"It's because of you changing, you're becoming adapted to not just change form in water like I do but also to eat what I eat. You'll be able to see much better in the dark as well. Especially in the water, it will feel like home to you, or a second home anyway." She says looking down slightly.

I take her hands again and lifting her chin up to mine I lean down and kiss her gently.

"My home is wherever you are Syrena. I love you."

"I love you to Philip."

She wraps her arms around me and kisses me deeply.

We lose ourselves in one another's arms until Syrena reluctantly pulls back.

"Philip, we need to get going, I have a lot to teach you today before you can meet my sisters and the other mermaids of Whitecap Bay."

I pull her towards me again and place a gentle kiss on her nose and mouth before smiling at her.

"Well what are we waiting for, let's get started!"

Syrena grins at me, her fangs showing, making her look devilishly beautiful before pulling away and diving down into the water. I follow her and dive down into the water, the shock I was expecting from the cold water of Whitecap Bay doesn't come and the water instead feels very comforting.

I feel a strange sensation and when I try to kick my legs, I realize that I no longer can; I look down to see that my legs have fused together into a big, beautiful tail just like Syrena's. Even the colouring is nearly the same as Syrena's. I try a kicking motion again and this time I am propelled forward, incredibly fast down the passageway. Syrena is waiting for me at the end and when I appear her eyes light up as they are drawn to my new tail. A beautiful smile crosses her features, making her face glow with her beauty.

"Come on Philip, follow what I do, and you will be fine."

Syrena smiles at me again before turning around and all but surging through the water with her powerful tail movements. I kick with my tail as I would with my legs, at first it's a bit weird to not have two separate moving parts but I soon grow used to it. After a bit of practice I am zooming around the ocean as if I was born in it, Syrena is delighted at how quickly I pick it up and I chase her around, moving so fast that I have swum through a school of fish or past some ocean creature before it's even had a chance to move away. The feeling of speed and strength is incredible and I know that I am a deadly underwater predator now.

We play around for over an hour before Syrena finally allows me to catch her; For all my newfound speed and strength, Syrena has a gracefulness that makes her look like she gliding through the water without any effort, combined with her swimming skill and instantaneous changes in direction she is the ultimate underwater predator. With her finally in my arms I kiss her again before whispering into her ears, telling her how beautiful, how sleek and how graceful she is. She lays her head against my chest and we hold one another for a few minutes before separating and continuing on our way.

We spend the rest of the day with Syrena showing me around, teaching me about the various plants and animals and instructing me on mermaid custom and behaviour. Apparently when she brings me to meet her sisters, her eldest sister will challenge me to a fight to ensure I'm worthy of her. Not to mention that if I lose they will kill me, which would be a death sentence to Syrena anyway because of the bond.

We return to our cave one final time; Tomorrow I would meet Syrena's family and if I survived we would start our new life together. We fall asleep in each other's arms, Syrena cradled against me in her human form. Head on my chest, fangs poking out of her mouth like a vampire in her sleep. Tomorrow would be a massive test, but I knew I would succeed because to not succeed is not an option. I had just found Syrena and I would not lose her again, not ever.
