I'm Sorry Kiddo chpt 2

A/N:

Yoyo! Back again with another chapter of whatever this is. I really am hopeless at updating and continuing things I start so I do apologize for that. You might see another chapter for this soon idk, if you know me by now, always take what I say with a pinch of salt because it usually never happens. Anyways, hope you enjoy this one, got a little stuck on how I wanted it to go but I got there in the end. Have fun!

There was just silence for a few moments, everyone who was witnessing it was unable to speak at all. Frisk and Asriel held their kiss until they realized everyone was staring at them, pulling away with a furious blush plastered over Frisk's cheeks and Asriel looking away scratching the back of his head. Just before anyone could say anything about what they had seen, Toriel came through, having not seen anything while holding Frisk's cake in her hands

"Okay everyone, one, two, three!" She said, completely oblivious as she started to sing happy birthday

At first, she was the only one who was singing but everyone else shortly joined in, alleviating the tension a little bit. Chara and Sans still stood in front of the kitchen, Sans slowly started to sing too, his voice a little more baritone than anyone else's which made it stand out and earned a small glance from Frisk, looking at him momentarily before looking away again. Sans looked to his side and saw Chara looking down at the floor mumbling 'Happy Birthday' under her breath. She looked upset but obviously didn't want to show it, but Sans wasn't sure why, sure seeing them both smooch in front of everyone was a bit of a shock to the system but it wasn't anything to be sad about. Shortly after, the song finished.

"Make a wish dear…" Toriel said as she extended her hands out holding the cake to the birthday girl

Frisk stood in front of the cake for a moment, staring down at it before smiling and blowing out her candles, earning applause from everyone else in the room.

"Thank you so much everyone! I love each and every one of you, this has been great…" Frisk choked out as she started tearing up a little bit, prompting a big hug from everyone around her which she returned. "C'mon guys it's a party!" She said to try and get the mood lively again

"You are absolutely right Frisk my little superstar" Mettaton exclaimed "We need some music in here! Papyrus darling would you be so kind to help us out" He said as he looked over to the tall skeleton

"Of Course! The Great Papyrus shall assist" Papyrus turned on the large television in the living room and connected the multitude of speakers the brothers had to it

Sans sighed and his smile returned as the tension had been alleviated, watching as everyone started to put forward song choices to Papyrus, Undyne was especially adamant that her songs get played. He then looked to his side, in that brief little exchange, Chara had somehow managed to disappear again. He shook his head

"How the hell does she sneak off like that…" He went to go and look for her again when he heard a voice call out to him "Um… Sans?"

He turned around, seeing Frisk looking right at him "Could we have a little talk in private quickly?…" She asked, sort of glancing off to the side while holding her arm

Oh boy. Sans knew that look, he had seen it so many times before, whenever something was bothering her she would hold her arm. It's a telltale sign that you fucked up.

"Uh, Sure Kiddo, let's go…" Sans put on a little facade to make it look like he hadn't caught wind

With that, Frisk turned around and walked to the edge of the living room, whispering something to Asriel on the way past before heading up the stairs. Sans followed behind her, getting to the top and watching Frisk head into her room, leaving the door open behind her. He took a deep breath, his mind racing thinking about what could be bothering her so much, walking into her room and shutting the door behind him. Frisk's room was just a little messy, probably because she slept in this morning, but other than that it was a pretty standard bedroom. It had a large double bed in the middle, a bedside table, a couple of wardrobes at the side, and a desk near the window where she had her laptop and notebooks sitting. The walls were intermittently covered with Mettaton posters or art and other little bits and bobs Frisk had created herself. Frisk stood at the edge of her bed, tracing her finger in circles on the edge of the bed frame.

"Everything okay kiddo?" Sans piped up after a little awkward silence "Everyone looks like they're having fun down there…" He said, leaning his back against the door

"Y-Yeah, I'm really happy everyone came, I really couldn't ask for better friends and family…" She said it but she didn't sound very convicted about it

"Oh, that reminds me…" He said as he started to fish into his shorts pocket, feeling the little silk pouch still sitting in there "I'm sorry I missed the gift-giving earlier, was out looking for your other half, that girl just disappears into thin air half the time"

"Chara?… What's wrong with her?" Frisk asked, now looking at Sans sounding a tad concerned

"Oh nothing, she's just being her usual mopey self… Y'know what she's like" Sans didn't really want to air out the little conversation the two of them had. "So… What is it you wanted to speak to me about?"

"Oh right… Um… I don't want this to sound bad or anything but… Well, I can't get it out of my mind…" She started, stumbling over her words a tiny bit

"Is it about you and Asriel?" Sans asked, thinking she was a little embarrassed about earlier on "I gotta say kid I'm happy for ya', I didn't think Tori would be too keen on it though"

"She doesn't know, and I want it to stay like that for now, I just couldn't help myself back there. But that's not what I wanted to talk about" She looked Sans dead in the eye "Sans, am I a burden to you?"

Sans' eyes widened, his little white pupils getting smaller, what was she talking about? What could have made her think like that? He thought at first she was just joking around "H-Ha ha, good one kiddo, remember I'm a skeleton. You keep pulling my leg and it might come off."

Frisk's expression didn't falter and she continued to stare "… I'm being completely serious Sans…"

The skeleton's grin slowly faded from his face, his mouth changing shape. It would be weird if Sans was an actual human skeleton and his face could change shape. "What are you talking about? Of course you're not a burden, I think you might have bumped your head a little too hard when you fell down the stairs earlier"

Frisk then turned around a little, looking out towards her window "… Sans I heard you and Papyrus talking last night…"

Oh no. Sans felt like the last of his HP had just drained out of him, he hadn't realized how much trouble he was really in, if she heard everything last night no wonder she might think she was a burden. She had no idea that Sans had gone out of his way to make sure he got her a gift, even if it was at the very last moment. Once again to try and save face he resorted to bullshit mode, a habit he needed to get rid of "T-Talking about what, I just had a bit of a bad dream last night and Paps was just coming down to check on me, that's all"

She turned back to look at him "Really Sans? You're lying to me now? Look I heard the whole gift talk… I'm not bummed out about if you forgot or not, just being here for my birthday is more than enough for me…" She said, trying to hide that she was just a little bit hurt

Sans sighed, once again his sins had found him out and he had been caught red-handed. Not wanting to make the situation any worse, he pulled out the little pouch that had been sitting in his pocket the whole time and held it up. Frisk just stared at it, feeling her heartbeat grow a little faster, was he really just joking this whole time and he actually had something? Had she just made a fool of herself because she jumped to conclusions?

"I understand how you must feel kid… I know how much of a bonehead I can be and… well I felt really bad last night after our little talk. I know it's a really last-minute thing and now I owe Alphys a favor but…" He closed both his eyes, reopening his left one to show a bright blue iris with a black pupil sitting inside it. As his eye opened, the pouch was surrounded by Sans' telekinetic magic, causing it to levitate just above his hand. He then pushed it across the room to where Frisk was standing who had held out a hand to catch it, dropping it into her palm and removing his magic from it, prompting his eyes to return to normal "… Happy Birthday kiddo…" Sans said quietly, almost in a whisper as a slight grin returned to his face

Frisk stared down at it in shock, afraid to open it to see what was inside. She looked back at Sans, pretty much lost for words as he waited anxiously for her next move. With an audible gulp, she pulled the delicate drawstrings apart, loosening the opening of the pouch, and reached inside gingerly. Her fingers grasped whatever was inside, it was light, very light. It felt like it had a chain, similar to what a necklace would feel like, and there was something connected to the chain which had a certain shape to it. Slowly she pulled it out, letting the chain unravel itself, revealing what it was. Dangling in front of her was a silver-cast locket with what looked like an upside-down heart hanging from where the chain meets at the bottom, not too dissimilar to what a monster's soul looks like. Frisk was speechless, looking through the locket back at the skeleton across the room.

"S-Sans? What's this?…" She tried to speak clearly, her hand shaking a tiny bit

The skeleton glanced off to the side, scratching the back of his skull "Oh y'know… You're growing up fast these days, someday you're gonna fly the nest, so I gotcha a little something to remember us by…"

She looked back at the locket, looking at the heart case at the bottom, and the little bone engraved on the front of it. Gently, she opened up the case and her hand found its way to cover her mouth, beads of moisture welling up in the pits of her eyes. Inside the case was a little picture of her, Sans and Papyrus together, each of them sharing a big hug with smiles wide enough to make their metaphorical cheeks hurt.

Sans just stood there with bated breath, unable to tell if she loved it or hated it. "Wh-Whatdya' think? You and Chara can be matching now…" He pointed out, briefly remembering Chara's gold locket she never takes off.

Frisk looked back at Sans, her arms falling to her side, unable to contain herself anymore as she moved towards him. Her bottom jaw trembled a little as she approached him, pulling him into a tight embrace the moment she was close enough, her face buried into his shoulder. Sans got caught a tiny bit off guard but quickly returned the hug

"I… I love it Sans… Thank you so much…" Frisk choked out, her voice muffled by Sans' hoodie

Sans gave a huge sigh of relief "Jeez kiddo you really had me going there, nearly gave me a heart attack, not literally of course" He chuckled a little bit, earning a little giggle from Frisk who pulled away from Sans and looked him in the eyes "… I'm glad you like it… Sorry for causing such a big song and dance about it…"

"You don't need to apologize, you've done more than enough… I should be the one apologizing for doubting you…" She replied, wiping away the tears that threatened to fall down her cheeks.

There was a moment of silence between them, neither party really wanting to say anything as nothing needed to be said. Sans was about to suggest heading back downstairs when…

"BANG!" A powerful explosion rocked the house, causing the foundations and everything inside to shake.

Sans' eye immediately glowed blue and Frisk readied her hands, placing the pouch on her bedside table. After the initial boom and shock of the explosion had passed, the pair could hear a commotion going on outside. They quickly made their way over to the window, looking down out of it and into the garden, where a congregation of grey smoke lingered in the air. As the smoke started to clear, they could make out two figures standing there, at first it was hard to tell who it was but when the smoke was all gone it was painfully clear. On the left side of their view was Chara, clutching the side of her arm and covered in dirt. Her teeth were gritted and her eyes were glowing a furious red color, she was enraged. On the other side was Asriel, sporting pretty much the same expression while having a gash across his cheek. The whites of his eyes had turned black and had black markings across his fur, starting wide at the bottom near his chin and getting thinner as they went past his eyes.

"Wh-What are they doing?!" Frisk exclaimed, clearly able to see that this wasn't a playful sibling fight

The two fighters appeared to rush at each other again, preparing to clash once again, Sans however wasn't having it "Oh hell no you two ain't wreckin' my garden" he muttered as he used his shortcut to quickly move down into the garden.

Just as Chara and Asriel were about to collide, completely unaware that Sans was there, a row of giant bones erupted from the ground. Both screeched to a halt before they collided with the bone wall, Asriel looking to his side and seeing Sans standing there with his hand pointed upward, no doubt the one that called forth the bones. In a moment of clarity, Asriel had snapped out of his daze, the marking on his face receding away as he dispelled his magic. He was completely embarrassed after letting his rage get the best of him. On the other side, Chara had fallen backward as the bones shot out, only she didn't move. It's like she was frozen, staring right at them like she had seen a ghost.

"Okay you two, time out…" Sans spoke confidently, clearly being able to tell that he was upset due to his tone.

In a moment, he reached both his hands forward, each one reaching out to the two fighters. Their bodies were enveloped in a blue glow and their souls appeared from their chests, they felt like they had lost control of their bodies as Sans' magic lifted them up into the air. Not a moment later, the door that opens from the kitchen into the garden burst open, with Frisk, Toriel and Asgore all rushing outside while the rest of the partygoers watched from the door. Toriel ran up beside Sans who she saw holding the two culprits in the air

"What in the name of heaven is going on out here?! Sans, what is the meaning of this?!" She shouted out, clearly agitated and confused

"It appears that these two were having a little… 'Disagreement'… to put it lightly. I've only just stopped them from turning the garden into a warzone" He looked over his shoulder, trying his best to not escalate things any further

Toriel glared at Chara and Asriel, probably the first time Sans had ever seen her look so angry. Asriel looked away sheepishly as he hung in the air while Chara couldn't bear to look her adoptive mother in the eye, seemingly staring into space. Asgore walked up beside Sans, placing a giant hand on the small skeleton's shoulder

"Sans…" He spoke with his deep voice "Could you please release them from your magic?" He asked calmly

Sans nodded, glancing back at the two before lowering them down to the ground and clicking his fingers, releasing the magic and stepping back. He wiped his forehead as sweat dripped down it, it had been a while since he had to use his magic with such force. Papyrus appeared at his side, kneeling down

"Brother! What is going on out here?! Are you alright?" The tall skeleton voiced out his concerns

"I'm all good Paps don't worry… and I think we're about to find out what's been going in in a minute…" The brothers looked over to Toriel who was towering over both Asriel and Chara

The large goat woman simply stared down at the human and younger goat, not speaking for a good moment before very lightly speaking up

"I don't suppose either of you two would mind telling me what was going on out here" She spoke calmly but with a thin veneer of disappointment layered over it.

EARLIER

During the commotion of singing Happy Birthday and the cheering, Chara had managed to slip away again, something she had gotten pretty good at. After leaving Sans' side, she doubled back out of the kitchen and into the garden again, moving out of sight from the door as she leaned her back against the brick wall of the house.

"… That?… That's why he's been avoiding me?" She spoke to herself, knowing that no one else was there. "All because he was getting booty calls from Frisk?! Ugh, why wouldn't he just tell me?!" She shouted out clearly upset "Am I not his sister anymore? Like, I know I'm not really but still, I've always been there for him…"

She shuffled over to a bench that leaned against the same wall looking out over the large garden. She sniffled a little bit, her nose running slightly as tears threatened to leave her eyes which she wiped away with the palm of her hand, looking down at her feet "F-Fuck this bullshit…" She muttered under her breath

"Chara?" She heard a voice call to her from the side

She looked up at where the voice came from, her eyes still glazed over. Standing in front of Chara was Asriel, his tall and slender figure making him easily recognizable, besides the white fur and goat horns obviously. He was wearing a hoodie, the design on it almost identical to the one on Chara's sweater, with just a couple of color discrepancies. Asriel had sort of adopted humanity's style, wearing some skinny jeans which barely fit him and some size 12 sneakers, which you could easily tell were still too small for his feet.

"What are you doing out here? Is everything alright?" He asked, concerned for his adoptive sibling

Chara laughed a little bit through her pained voice "Really? After all this time, Now is when you decide to start giving a shit? Fuck off Asriel leave me alone…" Chara was clearly upset but she was letting it influence what she was saying, she really didn't want him to go, she just wanted answers

"What the hell? I came to see if you're okay and this is what I get? Fine, have it your way then…" He threw his hands up and started to walk off.

Chara shot up from the bench where she was sitting and called out "Why!?…" It made Asriel stop In his tracks and turn around to look back at her, clearly able to see the tears streaming down her face. At this point Asriel's mind began to wander, why was she so upset? Could it be that she was… Jealous? Maybe? But she had never mentioned anything like that before.

"What do you mean 'Why'?" He called back "Are you jealous of us or something?…"

Chara's face screwed up a little, knowing that couldn't be further from the truth "No you idiot! Why would I be fucking jealous? What have I got to be jealous of? No, I want to know why you avoided me this whole time just because of this…"

Asriel paused for a moment. Now that he thought about it, he could see why she thought that. It was true that he had been 'preoccupied' for the last few months after he had confessed to Frisk one drunken night. But surely she didn't think he was doing it on purpose?

"Chara, I haven't been avoiding you. Look I understand that I might have been a little distant for a while but It wasn't because of you" He said, trying to defuse the situation and get Chara to calm down

She, however, wasn't having it "Yeah yeah, I'm not interested in your excuses, if you're not gonna tell me why then beat it" She wasn't being completely fair now, being an ass was only making things worse but her mind was that clouded that she couldn't help it

Asriel bared his teeth slightly "You're starting to piss me off here, I'm trying to be nice-" He attempted to take control but he was cut off

"Oh, you're getting pissed off?! C'mon then! Do something Crybaby!" Only at that moment did Chara realize she had gone too far. She hadn't called him a crybaby in so long and she knew he hated it.

Asriel had enough. While keeping eye contact with her he channeled his magic into his body, causing black stripes to shoot up his face from his jaw and the whites of his eyes turned to black also. His claws got longer and sharper before two extravagant peculiar-looking swords materialized from thin air into his hands.

Chara was immediately regretting everything right now, once again she had taken things too far. At this point there wasn't much point in apologizing, the damage had already been done. She knew for a fact that he was stronger than her… but she had no choice. Taking a deep breath and closing her eyes, she felt a dark and almost evil presence flood into her body. In her hand, a long, glowing red knife appeared, seemingly pulsing with energy and 'Determination'. Her eyes then opened, just like Asriel, the sclera of her eyes turned jet black, her red iris glowing brightly. Her entire body was shaking, she really didn't want to do this but she doubted Asriel would accept a "Sorry" at this point.

They stared at each other, neither one wanting to make a move. The air was tense, the wind was blowing slightly causing hair to flow and fur to rustle, both fighters on a hair trigger waiting for something to happen. Then as if on queue, the wind died down completely…

"RRAAAHHH" Asriel shouted out, dashing forward from where he was standing, sabers at the ready

Chara was quick to follow suit, also sprinting forward with some truly impressive speed. The two came into contact quickly, both slicing once they were in range, deflecting off each other's weapons. At first, they seemed evenly matched, Asriel clearly had power behind his attacks, causing the ground to crack and split whenever he missed. Chara's weapon didn't afford her much power, but she was fast, able to dodge until she could find an opening to strike. Just as she planned, Asriel missed and overstepped once again, she took the opportunity to slash at him. Asriel clocked this and tried to move but only ended up receiving a deep gash on his cheek, causing him to groan and recoil in pain as he moved back. He glared back at Chara, holding the wound with one of his hands while his free arm extended out toward her. He then summoned one of his 'Chaos Buster''s, a floating almost cannon-like weapon that allowed him to direct a powerful beam of energy. Chara noticed and quickly tried to dodge but she wasn't fast enough, Asriel shot the beam at her, missing her body but hitting the ground next to her causing a powerful explosion.

"Aargh!…" She cried out in pain as he was sent back, landing right on top of her arm. The force of the landing was immense, she felt like she had broken her arm from that alone. She stumbled to her feet, clutching her arm as she did so while staring at Asriel through the smoke and dust his attack had kicked up. She gritted her teeth, almost on the verge of growling, as the two charged at each other again. Just before impact, they could feel the ground tremble for a moment before a giant wall of bones erupted from the ground, completely separating the two fighters. Chara collided with the wall, unable to stop in time, and was thrown backward from it, leaving a slight stinging sensation running through her body when she touched them. She groaned, sitting up where she had fallen, and stared straight at the wall, then it was as if… everything around her had frozen. She could barely move, unable to take her eyes off it as she could hear her heartbeat ringing in her ears as it started getting faster.

"Wh-… What's going on?" She mumbled, her lip trembling

Her vision was contorting, changing as her surroundings seemed different. Everything had gone to a sort of yellow, orangey glow like she was back in the Judgement Hall… Her breathing was getting faster, to the point of hyperventilating when she felt a familiar sensation all over her body. It felt heavy, really heavy, almost unable to move. Then she was lifted up into the air, feeling a chilling wind almost crawling down her spine, something she hadn't felt in a long time. Whispering started to fill her ears, the voices sounded… familiar but… not quite. She couldn't make out completely what they were saying…

"…You rea… hate m…. at much?"

"...You can d… etter...i beli….n you…"

"...Even aft….ll that… it's still… ot enough…"

There was silence for a moment as the voices receded

"You dirty brother killer…"

That phrase… It boomed and echoed in her head. It was all she could hear and it wouldn't go away. She felt like crying, bawling her eyes out but her body wouldn't even let her do that, she just hung in the air in silent terror. She tried moving her head to the side a little, looking down and seeing a familiar blue glow. Just seeing it made her want to scream, but it went as fast as it came. All of a sudden, she was back in the garden, standing in front of Toriel. As if none of what she had just seen and heard had happened, like it was all just an illusion...
