It's just half of your lifespan. Think of all the good you could do. That would be more than worth half your lifespan. But then again, you don't know your lifespan. You could be dying tomorrow and you wouldn't know.
Those were the thoughts traveling through Haruto Yagami's head.
It had been a week since Ryuk offered him the shinigami eyes and he still hadn't made up his mind.
On the one hand, being able to know a criminal's name just from seeing their face would be more convenient. On the other, it's half of his lifespan being given away. Light hadn't been told about the eye deal, and Haruto wondered what Light would want him to do. It would make sense for Light to want it to be easier for Kira to do their job, but surely he wouldn't want his brother to give up his life for it. Or maybe Haruto taking the eye deal would be seen as dedication to their cause.
Haruto ended up making his decision while riding a train.
Sitting across him was his stalker and Haruto decided in that moment he hated looking at his face. He felt bad for a second, before realizing that this man is a criminal too. You can't just stalk a child and expect Kira to not get you. That being said, you also couldn't get killed by Kira if there wasn't a way for them to know about you.
"Dear Kira,
I am being stalked by a strange man every day. He follows me when I go out, he's waiting for me outside of school, he watches the outside of my house when I'm at home. I have no idea who he is, I've never spoken to him and he makes an effort to try and hide from me, but I'm scared. I'm scared for myself. I'm scared for my friends. I'm scared for my family. Please, Kira, can you get rid of him?"
"What do you think?" Haruto asked Ryuk.
"Very emotional. I'm sure all the other Kira forum members will be wishing for this man's death with you. But why are you posting about the man you're about to kill?"
"Well, for starters, it's in character."
"Wouldn't your character be more likely to directly approach the man following you?"
"Hoshi Yagami is very quick to defend herself, but not when it affects people who aren't her and the people messing with her. Hoshi would definitely be a supporter of Kira and it would be reasonable for people to believe that she believes that Kira is here to protect those who can't protect themselves, so she'd be likely to post a message asking Kira to kill someone who she fears may harm others."
"Wouldn't Hoshi go to the police?"
"Hoshi Yagami go to the police?" Haruto laughed. "There is so much wrong with that. First, I have made it very clear that I, and Hoshi, do not trust the police to actually find criminals and bring them to justice. That's why I'm doing this Kira thing. Second, I just told you how much Hoshi cares about her loved ones. She'd never put her family in more danger by getting the police involved, especially considering the police chief father. Oh, I almost made a mistake."
"What?"
"I should probably take a picture and attach it to the post. Just in case it's uncovered in the future that we need a face to kill. If that's discovered I'm immediately Kira. So, tomorrow I'll post this and the day after tomorrow this mystery guy is no more."

I've seen a few people on this forum who actually did get the person the person they asked about killed, and I hate the idea of taking another person's life but I'm too scared to get the police involved and this is really a last resort. So, Kira, if you actually see this, please get rid of this man before it's too late."
"Posted. Now that that's over, it's time for phase two."
Haruto snuck into Light's empty room and grabbed a ballpoint pen on his desk. There was a drawer where Light had hidden the death note underneath a fake bottom and a fake diary. It was a rather ingenious concept, Haruto was jealous he hadn't thought of it earlier. He unlocked the drawer, pulled it out, and unscrewed Light's pen. He took the ink reservoir out and carefully pushed it inside a small hole on the bottom. This revealed the death note, which Haruto took out. He tore a page out and returned it to its hiding place before removing any trace of his being in Light's room and returning to his own.
