Death is something we all fear. After all, isn't the thought of leaving our comforting place on earth and replacing it with the unknown scary? Some will answer yes; Some will answer no. Death is the next great adventure of life, supposedly. Remus Lupin preferred to never answer the question, if he should have been asked, of course.
To say he was taken by surprise at his abrupt death would be an understatement. One moment he was battling for peace in the Wizarding World, and the next he is thrust into oblivion. Death was only a shot of pain; barely noticeable. To try and describe death exactly is unexplainable. It was fast, that much he knew. One moment he is hit with a curse, and then next he was in what he could only assume: Heaven. Not the heaven described in the modern world; but a Heaven that was too hard to describe. Remus only knew three things: happiness consumed him, peace surrounded him, and the familiar scent of a specific person intoxicated him.
Black hair that framed his face elegantly, gracefully. Short when he was happy; Long when he was depressed.
His heart began beating faster. He smiled a broad, bright smile. Turning toward the Person, his smile, if possible, grew wider. His heart thudded against his chest violently. He felt light, like nothing could take the moment away from him. He met the Person's eyes and felt his heart jump.
Fathomless grey eyes.
Two souls intertwined.
Two hearts bound by love.
The Person smiled a mischievous smile, their eyes not losing the twinkle. He looked young, better compared to his condition when he had died. Azkaban had done its work on him, but Heaven had rejuvenated him. He stepped forward, embracing Remus in a loving hug. The simple embrace wouldn't mean much to the naked eye, but the moments their bodies came in contact, something inside Remus burst. Everything fell into place suddenly. It was bliss, the feeling. They broke apart and sat at a nearby bench, both recalling on old times. They laughed and joked. For once, Remus felt at home, accepted.
In the distance, he could see the flaming red hair of Lily as she walked hand-in-hand with James, his raven hair as messy as when they were teens, and Tonks, her hair its regular bubblegum pink. His heart jumped at the mere sight of her. But it wasn't the same jump his heart experienced with the Person. And that was okay. Remus knew Tonks would understand. How he knew, he didn't quite understand. The feeling just immediately came to him, as easily as if he'd Accio'd it. How could she be angry when she knew he was happy? Of course, a part of him would always love her, but their love couldn't compare to this one.
He turned toward the grey eyes. Everything he ever wanted was before him; love, acceptance, a friend, a home.
Sirius Black.
