CHAPTER 138
Percival stopped the van by the front doors, just as surprised to see Meme. He looked back at Tsukumo and Rayvahein. "I'm going to take Akeno to her dorm. She's just exhausted. You two have fun with Meme."
He drove to the parking lot and shut the van down. Reaching over to unbuckle Akeno, he picked her up and left the van.
Tsukumo stared after her worriedly. 'I'm sure Percival can handle it…but still. I'm worried.'
An elbow nudge startled him from his thoughts. Rayvahein winked at Tsukumo. "Let's go meet your friend."
She opened the door as Tsukumo muttered under his breath. "I'm not really sure he's my friend."
Rayvahein cheerfully ignored him and left the van, striding up to Meme and shaking his hand in her cold pale one.
Tsukumo jumped out the van, slamming the door closed and stomping up to Meme. "You better not be here to take her away. I'm not in the best of moods right now."
Rayvahein twitched, a grimace in her smile. "Tsukumo," She said between clenched teeth, "is that any way to say hello?"
Meme narrowed his eyes, but his lips twitched in amusement.
Tsukumo harrumphed. "Fine. Hello Meme."
Meme smirked. "Hello Tsukumo. Looks like something nice happened. Why don't you tell me about it once we get into the meeting room?"
Tsukumo whipped his head up in surprise. "We're having a meeting?! With who?"
Meme put one hand in his short's pocket. "Well now. There's us three. Then Ukko and Percival."
Rayvahein didn't look surprised. She'd probably read the plan in Meme's mind.
Tsukumo scowled down at the ground watching the shadows as clouds passed over the moon. "Fine whatever."
Incessant squeaking could be heard from the building as a tiny black shape shot out of the building and clung to Tsukumo's chest.
He waited for the scolding that usually happened, but instead Sir Sqiggles just hung there, shaking.
Tsukumo scratched him between the ears, feeling guilty.
Rayvahein watched the whole scene with interest, before snatching the tiny mascot. "H-hey!" Tsukumo complained, but she ignored him.
"Aww you're so adorable! And tiny! I could just put you in a little dollhouse!"
Sir Sqiggles scrabbled in her grasp. "Ack! I've been kidnapped! Help me Tsukumo! Don't let her put me in a dollhouse!"
That just made Rayvahein hold him tighter. "You have such an adorable squeaky voice. Now come along everyone, let's go to that meeting!"
She started walking, entering the building, much to the confused guards who just stared at her and then looked at each other.
Sighing, Tsukumo followed Meme as they hurried after Rayvahein.
Inside, Rayvahein was going from one place to another, touching things and asking people questions. Sir Sqiggles dismayed squeaking echoed around the foyer.
Meme smiled and shook his head, glancing at Tsukumo. "She's like a child in a candy shop. I'll go retrieve her, you wait for us in Mr. Rolby's office."
Without another word he chased after Rayvahein. For being sealed so long, she sure was quick on her feet.
Tsukumo smiled a little. 'Seeing her like that after so long brings me back to that first chat we had. Good times. Or time I guess.'
He turned and headed for the office, leaving his mascot to suffer with Rayvahein's coddling.
Reaching the office, he sat down in a chair, across from Percival who was already there.
Percival looked more awake, his eyes bright and clear. 'Must've had a tablet or something, though he looks a little too awake.'
Tsukumo spun in his chair, waiting while Percival stared at him silently.
Finally, Ukko came in, followed by an amused looking Meme and Rayvahein. Sir Sqiggles was still trapped in her arms, giving Tsukumo a death glare.
Tsukumo chuckled under his breath.
Everyone sat down and waited for Ukko to begin.
He sat straight up, his posture stiff. "Well then. Let's begin. Meme, I believe you have something to say?"
Meme nodded. "Indeed. Now, I'm sure we all know how powerful the lady in the room is."
Everyone looked at her, but she kept her attention on Sir Sqiggles, pulling his ears much to his chagrin.
"She was considered to be at the same level as Kiss-Shot-Acelrola-Orion-Heart-Under-Blade. Both were considered menaces."
Tsukumo stood up and slammed his hand down on the table. "My mother is not a menace!"
Rayvahein grabbed the hood of Tsukumo's sweater and shoved him back into his seat. "Behave yourself. The adults are talking."
A low chuckle rang through the group.
Embarrassed, Tsukumo swung to face the window, deciding he didn't want to take part in the meeting. Meme kept talking.
"Anyways. Neither one was able to successfully beat the other. So they called a draw. Unfortunately all their fighting had wreaked havoc across the nations. Catching the attention of Vampire Hunters and Tsukumo's father.
Me, as well with the Vampire Hunters, tricked Kiss-Shot and managed to bring her to the cusp of death, before Araragi brought her back to life with his blood. But that's a story for another time.
Meanwhile, Tsukumo's father, somehow got ahold of Rayvahein and sealed her. Is that correct?"
Rayvahein nodded, her expression thoughtful.
"So, while your rescue mission was happening, Tsukumo, I'm talking to you."
Tsukumo ignored Meme, glaring angrily out the window, watching students passing by.
"Well, while that was happening, Gaen came to visit me. Warned me about there being too many apparition cases lately. She's caught word of Tsukumo and his exploits. I don't take sides normally, but I convinced her to wait awhile."
A pause, then he kept talking. "Which brings us to now. Rayvahein, I will not meddle in your affairs so long as you keep out of Tsukumo's adventures. Your fighting could destroy cities, even accidentally.
So even if he's in trouble, leave it to the rest of the Agency. Otherwise I will not stop Gaen from hunting you down."
Tsukumo clenched his fists, face in a snarl.
Rayvahein shifted in her seat. "I understand. I will not interfere when he's out on a mission. But I will still interact with him while he's inside this building."
Ukko spoke. "Of course. No harm in that. Well I believe that's the end of that meeting. Rayvahein, Meme, you may leave, we're waiting for Yarkuzi and the others come back. They're bringing that tiny ninja girl back with them."
Rayvahein got up and left with Sir Sqiggles who was pretending to sleep.
Meme stood up as well, hands in his shorts pockets, and strode out of the office.
Tsukumo blinked. 'Her? The one that was working with Murmad? Why? To interrogate her? Are they bringing her here, in this room? Isn't she a criminal?'
Gasping, he suddenly remembered Quartz and the kids tagging along with her. Tsukumo spun in his chair.
"Where's Quartz and the little kids she had with her?" Ukko answered that question. "I put them in the spare room where you were when you first came here. Quartz is with them to keep them feeling calm. I'm not quite sure where to put them yet."
Tsukumo slumped back in his seat. "Oh." Was all he said.
An hour ticked by, while everyone sat in silence.
Tsukumo closed his eyes, the bright office lights were starting to give him a headache.
'I may just have to keep an eye out for Gaen. It's like Meme is trying to indirectly warn me…'
Another hour passed by…
