Bad Omen.
"That stupid bear. I swear to god that if I get my hands on him…" - Nino said as she held her head, opening her eyes to reveal a familiar sight to them.
"Wait… Did we make it back?" -
The trio got up from the floor and looked around. The bear wasn't lying, he got them back to Junes, and everything seemed just like it previously was. Looking outside to the street, they noticed how it was almost nighttime, as only the last rays of sunlight could be seen.
"Damn, we were there for a while" - Yotsuba said as she remembered everything they saw there, including something in the creepy room - "Hey, is that…" -
"What?" -
Yotsuba turned to look at a poster to their right, the same one they saw in the creepy room, only in a much better state, without any parts destroyed.
"Hey, you're right! That's the girl that we saw back there. That's Misuzu Hiiragi" - Nino connected the dots after seeing the intact poster.
"Who's that?" - Fuutarou asked.
"You've really been living under a rock, haven't you?" - the girl mocked him before answering - "She's been all over the news, something about her husband sleeping with that announcer who died the other day" -
"So, if her face was there… Could that room be related to Yamano's death?" - Yotsuba suggested, trying to make a connection.
"There was that noose hanging from the ceiling as well, and the chair underneath it…" -
"Gaah! That's enough, we gotta stop thinking about that place. I just want to forget it, wipe it off my brain!" - Nino yelled as she grabbed her head, earning a confused look from Fuutarou and an amused look from Yotsuba.
"Let's just go home for the night. I need to get some rest after today" - Fuutarou suggested, and both girls agreed, as well as making the promise that they wouldn't tell their sisters anything about what they saw.
With that, they said goodbye and went their separate ways, Fuutarou arriving at his place shortly after. There, he was met with Dojima and Nanako sitting by the TV, getting ready for dinner.
"Hey, welcome home" - Dojima said while turning his eyes towards him.
Fuutarou simply gave a nod, as he felt sluggish after his small adventure inside the TV alongside Yotsuba and Nino. With this, he sat down next to his uncle, noticing him somewhat nervous.
"Is everything alright?" - he asked.
"Uhm… Well, I doubt you'd know…" - he stuttered a bit before composing himself - "Have you heard the name of Saki Konishi?" -
He then remembered his talk with Yotsuba back at school after hearing about the girl. One of Itsuki's friends, and…
"Yes, she's a student at Yasugami, and she's the one who discovered the body, and she wasn't at school today" -
"So, you know. I see…" - Dojima turned towards the ground before facing Fuutarou again - "It's just that… Her family called earlier today. She's gone missing" -
Hearing that shocked Fuutarou, as Dojima continued - "People have been searching for her all day but nothing so far. Work just keeps piling up" -
Their conversation was interrupted by a news broadcast on TV, which talked about Mayumi Yamano, the reporter that had been found dead. It went on, saying how now they found out her whereabouts before she was found dead. The investigation had reported her staying at the Nakano Inn before her untimely death.
"That's the inn that Yotsuba and Nino's parents run…" - Fuutarou whispered to himself as the TV continued, mentioning how she was staying there alone, with the announcer mentioning how it was to possibly escape the unwanted attention that came about due to her ordeal.
Fuutarou wanted to clear his head, but when he tried getting up he stumbled backwards and nearly fell, only saving himself due to a quick catch by Dojima.
"Rough day for you huh?" - he said as Fuutarou composed himself - "I think it's best if you go to sleep, you'll want to be well rested for tomorrow" -
The boy wanted to keep hearing, to see if they mentioned anything else about the reporter, but he also was having problems just keeping his eyes open. Agreeing with Dojima, he said goodbye to him and Nanako, and went towards his room to get some rest.
Night passed fast for the young man, and soon he was up and ready for school. Going downstairs, he expected to see Dojima and Nanako having breakfast, but instead, as soon as he went down he was met by his uncle rushing out of the house, nearly crashing against him.
"Ah, you're up" - he said as he took a few steps to the right to avoid him - "Well, I'm off" - and with that, he left the house.
Confused, Fuutarou turned his eyes towards Nanako - "What's up with him now?" -
"Dad's got to do something. He got a call, so he left" - she answered simply. Fuutarou couldn't help but notice a concerned expression on her face.
Morning went by without anything interesting, and soon he and Nanako left for their respective schools, carrying umbrellas as it was a rainy morning. As he walked to school, Fuutarou stopped to hear the conversation of two girls, as what one of them said caught his eye.
"When I looked, I saw 3 police cars zooming by" -
"You live by the police station don't you? Did you hear anything?" -
"I heard some yelling but nothing more. Total disappointment" -
"Geez, you need to pay more attention to stuff like that. How else are we supposed to get all the juicy stories?" -
Their conversation was cut short by the sound of police sirens blasting in the distance. Something bad had happened.
Wanting to keep his mind off of that, Fuutarou finally arrived at school, where everything seemed rather normal. Classes were just as the day prior, but just before the day was over, everyone was called to the auditorium.
While waiting to see what was the reason, Fuutarou overheard two girls talking by his side, mentioning something about a rumor. He couldn't listen to the full thing however, as his attention then turned to Nino, who went to his side.
"How're you feeling?" -
"Still a bit tired, but fine. I'm more worried about why they're having an assembly all of the sudden…" - Fuutarou then turned to look behind him, noticing how Nino, as well as the rest of Yotsuba's sisters, seemed nervous - "What's wrong?" -
"Ugh, with the news that the reporter had been staying at the Inn before she died, things have been tense between us. Besides that, something feels…" -
The girl's sentence was cut as the assembly properly began. The students turned their view to the principal, as he took center stage, and began speaking.
"I… Regret to say that I have a terrible announcement for all of you. One of our third-year students, miss Saki Konishi of Class 3…" - the auditorium filled with a tense silence, before the principal broke it - "Passed away" -
Yotsuba and Fuutarou were left speechless in shock, as the place became filled with the murmurs and whispers of all the students.
"Miss Saki was found deceased earlier this morning. The reasons of her passing are still being determined by the police" - the principal continued speaking - "If they ask you for your cooperation, I ask you, as students of this school, to provide only facts" -
Everyone's voices filled the place once more, but both Fuutarou and Nino didn't care for the rest. No, instead they turned to look at Yotsuba's sisters, all of which were trembling, with a mix of sadness and anger.
And this… It was only the beginning.
