"love was made for me and you" — (glee cast version)
September 2022. New York City.
Mike stirs awake in his empty bed from the smell of fresh coffee, the loud noise of his kitchen cupboards being open and shut, and the unmistakable sound of his wife humming along to Beyoncé's latest album that is echoing through their speakers. He tosses the covers off of his body and rushes out of bed to slip on a pair of boxers before heading to see what awaits him in the kitchen so early in the morning, not wanting to spend any second asleep any longer.
He is greeted by the sight of Tina leaning inside their refrigerator, wearing nothing but one of his old Joffrey t-shirts, exposing her long bare legs. She is far too distracted by the music and her search in the fridge to notice Mike sneaking up behind her until his arms are wrapped around her waist. A low giggle escapes her mouth when he starts peppering soft kisses along her neck. "Mmm, good morning, Mr. Chang."
"Good morning, Mrs. Chang," he mutters his response into her skin. Mike intertwines their fingers together and his heartbeat quickens when their matching wedding rings tap against each other. "What are you looking for in here?"
Tina can't help but to melt into his touch, stretching her neck and granting him more access. "I was trying to see what we should have for breakfast… I'm kind of in the mood for something sweet."
"I can think of something sweet…" Mike teases as his hands trail beneath her shirt and his thumb brushes the underside of her breast.
"I can tell you right now that we are not thinking of the same thing because I was about to suggest that you make us pancakes –"
Her proposition is interrupted when his lips suddenly crash onto hers. As she twists in his arms to face him, he shuts the refrigerator door before trapping her against it. She gasps from the sudden feeling of his body pressed against hers, allowing him the opportunity to slip his tongue inside her mouth. She moans in appreciation and he takes the sound as an encouragement to lift her up by her thighs and wrap her legs around his waist.
Mike spins them around and places her on top of their kitchen island. Tina playfully grazes her teeth along his bottom lip as she pulls away and he revels in the way she looks at him with her eyes half-lidded with lust. She licks her lips as she trails her hands along his bare abs, admiring the view. "Hmm, on second thought, the pancakes can wait."
November 2022.
On a rare occasion, Tina and Mike have ventured across the hall to visit Brittany and Santana at their apartment instead of the other way around. That is because the two women are hosting a small gathering to welcome their recently adopted baby girl into their home. Brittany, Santana, Mike and Blaine are seated together on the living room couch with Hepburn and the baby while Tina, Kurt, and a six-month-pregnant Rachel are in the kitchen discussing the latest trends in maternity fashion.
Blaine is holding the newborn in his arms and introducing her to his toddler while Brittany, Mike and Santana watch in amusement. Hepburn leans over Blaine's shoulder and gently pats the baby's head but her attention is only held for a few moments before she is pouting at her father. "Dad, I want apple juice."
"Okay, sweetie, your apple juice is in the kitchen with Daddy," Blaine tells her, "We just have to give the baby back to her mommies and we can go get it."
Blaine starts to shift to return the baby Santana so that he can attend to his child's request when Mike places his hand on his shoulder to stop him. "It's okay, I can go with her."
Mike stands up from the couch before lifting Hepburn in the air and carrying her towards the kitchen like an airplane, making the little girl burst into a fit of giggles. Tina watches the pair of them with a soft smile on her face and a strange fluttering feeling in her lower abdomen. "Miss Hepburn would like some apple juice," Mike announces as he sets the toddler to sit on the kitchen counter next to Tina, holding her in place so that she doesn't fall off.
"And a cookie, please," Hepburn adds.
"Okay, well I have your apple juice right here," Kurt says while handing her the juice box, "and if you wait with Uncle Mike for a second, I'll go get a cookie for you, okay?"
Hepburn shakes the juice box upside down and frowns at it before holding it in front of Tina's face. "Aunt T, open, please?"
With a chuckle, Tina accepts the juice box and sticks the straw inside before handing it back to her. "Here you go, Hepburn."
"Thanks, Aunt T," the toddler replies before delightedly taking a long sip from her juice box.
Tina smiles at the girl and brushes her loose curls away from her face. When Kurt returns with a cookie and takes his daughter into his arms, Mike moves to stand behind Tina and wraps his arms around her waist as they watch Blaine, Brittany and Santana coo at the newborn in the living room. Tina leans back against his chest and turns her head to whisper in his ear, "I want one."
Mike immediately whips his head to look at his wife, an intrigued glimmer in his eyes. "Yeah?" Tina nods her head in response and he grins widely at her before kissing her soundly. "Then, let's give you one," he growls in her ear as his hands find their way underneath her shirt and rests on her lower abdomen. She can't help but giggle when he nibbles on her ear. "If you want we get out of here and get started right now."
His hands begin to wander further up her shirt but his ministrations are halted when they are suddenly struck by a throw pillow and the pair looks up to see Santana glaring at them from the living room. "There are children here!"
January 2023.
A week prior to Tina and Mike's larger wedding that they are having to appease their parents and Ohio's Asian community, the boys all fly out to New York and steal Mike away for his bachelor's party despite his grumblings – ("Uh, you guys do know that I haven't been a bachelor for a couple of months now, right?" – "Man, will you just shut up and let us party with you?")
Mike stumbles back into his apartment a little after 1 in the morning to find Tina already fast asleep in their bed. Not having enough energy to do more than strip down to his boxers, he climbs in bed beside his wife, wrapping his arms tightly around her waist and pulling her close against him. With his eyes shut, he takes a moment to breathe her in because even though it's only been a few hours, he's missed her so damn much.
The sudden movement causes Tina to stir awake, chuckling at the way her husband is currently nuzzling into her hair. "Aren't you supposed to be at your bachelor's party with the guys?"
"Yeah, but they sent me home because I kept talking about how much I just wanted to be at home with you," he elaborates.
Tina smirks at him over her shoulder. "The strippers weren't doing it for you?"
She's teasing but his reply is earnest and she finds it equally endearing and completely ridiculous. "There's nobody I want dancing against me but you."
With a laugh, she turns around to give him a kiss which he returns fervently. Tina rolls them both over and presses him further into the bed so that she can climb on top of him and straddle his thighs, her core landing right on top of him. She grinds down on him as she slips her tongue inside his mouth where she can taste the tequila on his breath. Mike has a death grip around her waist and she knows she'll find finger-shaped bruises on her skin in the morning. He is bucking his hips into her and pawing at her shirt when she pulls away, lightly tugging his bottom lip between her teeth, causing him to release a small choke-up sound from his throat.
"Well, it's only right to give the bachelor what he wants," she whispers with a devious glimmer in her eyes that makes Mike's heart twinge with excitement.
Mike watches with piqued curiosity as Tina extracts herself from bed and disappears inside their walk-in closet. He sits up against the headboard, waiting for her return in anticipation and his jaw drops when Tina shortly returns wearing a pair of sexy, black lace lingerie that he's never seen before. "Holy shit, Tee."
Tina plays a sensual song through her phone before dancing her way to him. "Here's to your last night of freedom."
One week later, the east coast is hit with a huge snowstorm as everyone flies out for Mike and Tina's wedding. They were worried that the weather might cause them to postpone the big event but luckily, it has calmed down enough to allow all the guests to arrive safely while also blanketing the venue in sparkling, white snow. Before they know it, the ski lodge they have reserved for the special occasion is packed with their guests – from the New Directions alumni, all their relatives and countless family friends from the Asian community.
Moments before the ceremony begins, Tina sneaks outside in her full wedding attire to revel in a few seconds of silence as she admires the light snowfall. She's always loved the snow. And she's always loved Mike. And everything is just so perfect and right that she hasn't been able to stop smiling all day.
The sound of footsteps crunching in the snow behind her interrupts her thoughts and she turns around to find her groom smiling softly at her while holding a long parka in his arms. "You know you're not supposed to see me before the wedding," Tina reminds him playfully.
"I knew you'd be out here watching the snow without a jacket on," Mike retorts, his tone slightly chiding, as he holds out the jacket and helps her put it on. "And I would rather you not get hypothermia."
"I know, I'm sorry, I only meant to stay out here for a few seconds but God, it's so beautiful out here."
While she returns her attention to the scenery in front of her, Mike takes a moment to take in his bride's appearance. She's wearing a long, flowy white dress, different than the one from her previous wedding but equally stunning. Her cheeks and nose are flushed pink from the cold and the snow is fluttering around her. She is radiant and glowing and he just feels like the luckiest man in the world that she wants to marry him.
He places his fingers beneath her chin and draws her attention back to him. "You're beautiful," he whispers and captures her lips in a heated kiss.
When he pulls away, he brushes away a loose strand of hair from her face and notices the extension that she has clipped into her hair – royal blue – like the colour of her bridesmaids' dresses and her engagement ring. The sight of it makes his heart flutter, reminding him of the reality that he is going to spend the rest of his life with the girl he's been in love with since he was a child. "The blue streaks look good on you."
"I knew you'd like them," she remarks as she wraps her arms around his neck.
They rest their foreheads against each other and stay still in their spots for a few moments before Mike laces their fingers together and leads her back inside. "Well, let's get this show on the road. Our moms are not getting any younger."
When they get back inside, they are forced to separate as they take their wedding march positions. Mike waits at the end of the altar, his heart bursting with joy as he watches his oldest and closest friends and his family walk down the aisle.
Then, he sees Tina. And he might have just seen her mere moments ago but that doesn't take away his awe at the sight of her. She flashes him a bright smile as she walks down the aisle with her father, clutching a bouquet of red carnations, and everything about her is just so perfect that he has to take a deep breath so that he doesn't burst out in tears into front of everyone.
When she reaches the end of the aisle, he takes her hand and guides her to the stage and the rest of it just becomes easy. There's a lot of pressure from the community and controversy in the media surrounding their relationship and it normally would make them both a nervous wreck but at this point, they have already been married for five months and this whole thing is really just a show for their parents and the people. Everyone can have their thoughts and opinions but all that matters are the two of them and their unending love for each other.
"Okay, everyone, I hope you all enjoyed your meal," Blaine says into the microphone as he and Santana take the stage after the wedding's dinner reception. "Santana, here, wanted to share some words and toast our bride and groom –" he trails off and furrows his eyebrows as he looks around the room. "Uh, speaking of the bride and groom – has anyone seen them?"
The guests all look around the reception area in search of the newlyweds and mutter their confusion. "Hold on," Santana instructs Blaine with a sigh, handing him her mic before stepping off the stage and exiting the room. Two minutes later, she marches back inside the reception hall, pushing Tina and Mike in front of her. "I just found them practicing for their honeymoon," she announces, making Tina and Mike blush furiously.
The bride and groom return to their seats in the front as Santana reclaims her spot on the stage and accepts her microphone from Blaine. "Okay, now that you're both here, I have some words that I would like to say. For those of you that don't know – I have appointed myself as Mike's Best Man. One, because I plan on going home tonight with the hottest bridesmaid," Santana winks at her wife, Brittany, as she cheers from her seat. "And two, because Mike and I go way back – even before you, Rutherford – I mean, we practically shared a crib when we were babies.
"In the past 29 years that we have known each other, we have grown into the people you see before you today and there have been so many changes throughout our lives. But one thing that I know for certain will always stay the same is that Mike Chang is head over heels, sickeningly in love with Tina Cohen-Chang.
"There are a lot of things that have happened in the world that I never expected would happen in a million years. Rachel Berry winning a Tony? That seemed like folklore to me! But this – Tina and Mike getting married? I think we can all agree that we saw this coming. The only thing surprising about this is that it took them this long to get here because I've known that they would end up here since Mike came home from Asian camp when we were 8 years old. But that's okay, because with a few nudges in the right direction – a lot of them from yours truly – they have finally made it to this point. And to that I say, you're welcome, and I wish the two of you a lifetime of love and joy."
The guests collectively raise their glasses to toast the newlyweds. "Now, everyone if you could please join me and Santana in welcoming Mr. and Mrs. Chang as they take their first dance as husband and wife," Blaine announces as the opening of "Save the Last Dance for Me" begins to play through the speakers.
Mike stands up from his spot and bends down in front of Tina, offering her his hand, "May I have this dance?"
"Forever and always," Tina responds, accepting his hand with a giggle and he leads her to the center of the dance floor just in time for Blaine to sing the first lines of their wedding song.
As the bride and groom dance together in front of all their friends and family to Blaine and Santana's duet, Brittany watches them from her table and leans into Vice President Sue Sylvester who sits beside her, "Santana and I might have nudged them together, pretty cool, huh?"
Sue chuckles at the former cheerleader. "Oh, that's sweet."
Unable to detect her condescending tone, Brittany beams proudly. "I know right."
"No, I think it's sweet that you think that you and Santana are behind this," Sue corrects. "Who do you think suggested that Tina and Mike should be welcomed back to Asian camp?"
Brittany stares at her former cheerleading coach in awe who currently winks at Evelyn from across the room. "You're amazing,"
Two weeks later, Mike and Tina return to New York from their honeymoon in Puerto Princesa, Philippines. They are enjoying every second of their life being officially married, except for this stomach bug that Tina has been currently suffering from for the past few days.
"Hey, babe, I just finished my dance class and I'm on my way home," Mike tells her over the phone as he walks through the busy streets of the city, "Are you still feeling sick?"
"Yeah, someone in my meeting today was wearing the strongest cologne and I barely made it out of there without hurling," Tina shares with a groan.
Mike frowns in sympathy at the misery in her voice. "How do you feel now?"
"Still a little nauseous and so tired," she replies, flopping onto their living room couch and pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Well, just rest up first. I'm just gonna stop by the store to pick up some more toilet paper and I could get you some electrolytes to hopefully make you feel better. Do we need anything else?"
"We're out of toothpaste, could you pick some up too?" She asks before going silent, trying to think of other items they might need at home. "You know what, babe, I know my stomach isn't feeling so good but I have the strangest desire to have a chicken feet salad right now."
"A chicken feet salad?" He repeats in amusement, remembering her constant complaints over the meal when they were younger. But as he walks down the aisles of the grocery store and passes by the feminine hygiene products, he freezes in his spot, the pieces suddenly coming together in his mind "That is weird."
"I really want one though," she says, oblivious to his sudden change in demeanour.
His heart skips a beat at the new possibility before him and he smiles at the softness of her voice. "Okay, I'll get you one on my way home."
"Thanks, babe," she mumbles as she burrows herself further into their couch. "I think I'm gonna take a nap."
"Yeah, babe, go take a nap," he concurs as he finds himself in the family planning section. "I'll be home soon."
Thirty minutes later, Mike arrives back home and Tina stirs awake from the sound of him opening the door.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," he apologizes as he places the bags of groceries and takeout onto their kitchen island. "I got your chicken feet salad but I think we should do something first before we eat."
"Babe, I've thrown up three times today, I'm really not in the mood right now," Tina grumbles as she gets up from the couch and slowly makes her way to him.
"No, not that," Mike corrects before placing a pregnancy test on the counter in front of her.
Tina gasps in surprise, everything slowly starting to make sense. "Wait… no… Do you really think we could be? I mean, I know I said I wanted one but we never really started trying."
"I mean, sure, we weren't really trying but we weren't exactly careful," he points out, thinking about the unopened box of condoms he bought two months ago that is currently sitting in their bathroom cabinet. "Look, I got you a bunch of bottles of Gatorade if this really is a stomach bug but I think we should be sure."
She analyzes the box before looking at him judgementally "You only bought one?"
He takes out another box from one of the grocery bags and places it on the island. "I got two. If we need more confirmation then we'll go see a doctor, okay?"
Tina smiles at him and pecks his lips before nodding in agreement. She grabs the tests in one hand and laces their fingers together with the other, dragging him into their bathroom. She takes both tests and places them on the counter as they wait in agony for the results.
"Babe, you have to wait or the results aren't going to be accurate at all," Mike tells her when she goes to check the tests for the third time in one minute.
"I'm sorry, I know" Tina raises her arms in defence, placing the test back down on the counter. "It's just…"
Mike watches her carefully as she takes a seat beside him on the ledge of their bathtub. "What is it?"
"I'm afraid to even say it out loud in case I jinx this whole thing… but now that I know it's a possibility, I really want it," she admits as she fidgets with her fingers. "And I'm gonna be devasted if they come out negative."
"Hey, look at me," Mike places his fingers underneath her chin and pulls her glance back to him. "Whatever those tests say – we will be okay. If it's positive, then great – we're gonna have a baby. And if it's negative, I will take you back into our room and we are not gonna leave until there is a baby inside of you."
She laughs at the earnestness in his voice and kisses him softly. They pull away just in time for the timer to go off. With a deep breath, they lace their fingers together once again before going back to the bathroom counter and checking the pregnancy test results.
Two lines flash back at them.
Tina checks the other test as well and lets out a breath of relief at the sight of the matching results. She turns to her husband with tears in her eyes and a bright smile. "We're having a baby."
"We're having a baby!" Mike echoes excitedly before lifting his wife off the ground and spinning her around in their bathroom.
Los Angeles. The Oscars.
The LA streets are crowded and buzzing with excitement for Hollywood's biggest night as every celebrity is out in their best dresses to celebrate the Academy Awards. The limo pulls up outside of the Dolby Theatre bringing Best Actress nominee Tina Cohen-Chang and her husband to the event.
As the guard opens their door, Mike turns to Tina beside him and asks, "Are you ready?"
Taking a deep breath and donning a bright smile, she nods at him. "Yes."
"Come on, then," he declares before taking a step onto the red carpet and guiding his wife outside of the limousine.
They follow the various event staff's instructions to stand and pose on the red carpet. "Tina! Mike! Look over here!" The paparazzi shout and their cameras flash at the blindingly.
After they snap a few shots, Tina turns to her side and Mike bends down to adjust the train of her dress so that it sits nicely on the ground. He stands back up and smiles brightly at her as he places his hand lightly on her swollen belly.
With the change of angle, her protruding belly is more apparent to the press and the married couple can't help but giggle at the sound of the gasps at the sight of it. They have not publicly announced their pregnancy before this moment and they know that the media will be going wild with the news. They share a sweet kiss on the carpet (because the paparazzi are demanding that they do but mostly because they just feel so fucking happy right now).
They continue their way down the red carpet, stopping for interviews and more photos and to greet their peers. But at the end of the carpet, they run into a familiar face.
"Tina, Mike… I don't even know where to begin," Artie Abrams says at the sight of them and they can almost feel all the cameras zooming in on them. "There are so many things to congratulate you for. The best actress nomination – which I'm sure you'll win – or your pregnancy."
Tina playfully furrows her eyebrows at him. "What makes you think I'm pregnant?" Her former-fiancé freezes in his spot while Mike just shakes his head at his wife. Artie finally relaxes when Tina breaks out into laughter and rubs her belly. "I'm just messing with you – there's definitely a baby in here."
Artie cautiously joins in her laughter. "Well, congratulations. For everything."
"We could say the same thing to you – best director nominee," Tina points out before wagging her eyebrows at him, "And recently engaged to Kitty Wilde."
"Thank you," Artie says gratefully. This moment should be awkward but it just feels easy between them and it feels like a huge relief. "You two seem happy."
The couple turn to look at each other, both wearing bashful grins. "We are."
"Good."
"Are you?"
Now it's Artie's turning to grin widely. "Yeah, I really am."
"Great – that's all we ever wanted," Mike acknowledges, shaking Artie's hand firmly.
Tina leans down to give Artie a warm, friendly hug. "Well, we're gonna head inside – good luck in there."
Artie waves them goodbye as they enter the theatre and look for their assigned seats. As they are about to take their seats, they hear a familiar voice coming from behind them. "Well, if it isn't my favourite people – the Changs!"
They turn around to see Blaine and Mercedes approaching them. "Hi, Blainey-days, hi, 'Cedes," Tina exclaims as they greet both of them with hugs and kisses on their cheeks.
"You both look amazing tonight and I see you brought Baby Girl Chang with you," Blaine says, placing his hands on Tina's belly and making her laugh.
"Well, I couldn't exactly leave her at home," Tina quips. "Besides, it'll be a real treat for her to watch her Uncle Blaine and Aunt 'Cedes perform their Oscar-nominated song tonight."
"You're saying that like she's not gonna go up on that stage and accept the Oscar with you," Mercedes remarks with a wag of her eyebrows.
"Oh, come on, you don't know that," Tina dismisses with a wave of her hand.
"Yes, we do," Blaine retorts. "Well anyways, the show is about to start soon – we have to get to our seats. Good luck and don't forget to thank me in your speech."
Tina rolls her eyes but laughs as Blaine and Mercedes go off to find their seats. When they settle into their seats, Mike leans in and whispers to Tina, "You are going to win tonight, you know that right?" She simply smiles at her husband's sincerity and pecks him on the lips appreciatively before the host enters the stage and the ceremony begins.
They sit through the lengthy show in patience and cheer on their friends and colleagues as they win. The next thing they know, three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep is gracing the stage to announce the Best Actress category and Tina clutches Mike's hand tightly. "The nominees for Best Actress are…"
As the screen announces the nominees and plays their clips, Tina gasps quietly and her hand flies to her belly causing Mike to look at her in concern. "Is everything okay?"
He relaxes at the sight of the sweet smile that graces Tina's face and her nodding. She takes his hand, placing it on top of her stomach, and he has to hold back tears at the first feeling of his baby's tiny kicks.
"That's our baby," he whispers in awe.
"That's our baby," she echoes in confirmation.
They stare at each other for a moment, completely in awe of feeling their daughter for the first time, that they almost miss the announcement: "And the Oscar goes to… Tina Cohen-Chang!"
Tina's jaw drops in shock. "Did Meryl Streep just say my name?"
"Yes, she did!" Mike exclaims. "Babe, you won!"
Tina kisses Mike soundly before he helps her up from her seat and she rushes up to the stage to accept the trophy from the Meryl Streep. She looks tearfully at the golden statue in her hand. "Thank you – this is such a wonderful honour. I want to thank our wonderful cast and crew – I couldn't have done this without all of you. Thank you to my parents for giving me a welcoming home and supporting my dreams. To all my family in the New Directions – some of whom are in the room right now – hi, Blainey-days! To Mr. Schuester for being the greatest teacher I have ever known. And to Mike, my wonderful husband and long-time best friend, I love you. And to everyone watching out there – never be afraid to follow your dreams."
Mike wakes up in the middle of the night to the feeling of his wife tossing and turning in bed beside him. "You okay, babe?" he mumbles sleepily.
Tina tosses one more time before settling on her back and huffing aggravatedly. "No, I'm not," she says angrily. "I can't sleep and it's your fault."
"My fault?" He echoes in confusion. "What did I do?"
"You put this baby in me and it won't let me sleep," she groans miserably with a pout.
Mike chuckles as he sits up and starts adjusting some pillows around her. He places a pillow underneath her belly and rolls her over to her side. When he senses that she is comfortable, he positions his head above her bump. "Hey, baby, you have to let mommy sleep because she will take out on me and none of us will be happy," he whispers to her belly before kissing it gently as Tina runs her fingers through his hair.
"Better?" Mike asks, staring up at her from his position.
"Much," she replies appreciatively. "Thank you."
"I love you," he says before pecking her lips and then dropping another kiss on her bump. "And I love you, baby."
September 2023. New York City.
With only a few weeks left before Tina's due date, both their parents have flown into town to assist them with preparing for the baby's arrival. Since they have increased support, Tina and Mike decide that it is the perfect time for them to have their baby shower.
As their parents help to set up the apartment for the party, the soon-to-be-parents are in their bedroom as Mike helps Tina to zip up her dress. She smiles at him through the mirror as he presses a sweet kiss on the nape of her neck when he reaches the top of her dress.
As she occupies herself with putting her earrings on, Mike trots away to grab a box from their nightstand. "Hey, babe, I wanted to give you this before everyone else got here."
Tina looks at him oddly but accepts the present anyways. "You know, you didn't have to get me a baby shower present – you're the dad."
"Just open it," he instructs her with a roll of his eyes.
Tina unwraps the present to find a wooden music box. She opens the music box and tears up when it starts playing an instrumental version of "Dream a Little Dream of Me". Reaching up to cup his cheek, she kisses him appreciatively. "I love it, thank you."
He is about to kiss her again when their doorbell rings, signalling the arrival of their guests. They exit their bedroom to find Judi welcoming Rachel, Jesse and their 7-month-old baby inside their home. Slowly, all their guests begin to trickle into their apartment – Matt, Quinn, Sam and Mercedes, Kurt, Blaine and Hepburn, and lastly Brittany, Santana and their baby girl.
They are all gathered in the living room and offer their gifts to Tina and Mike. After opening the last present, Tina expresses her gratitude. "Thank you all for your lovely presents and for coming to celebrate the coming of our baby – Ow!" Tina yelps, suddenly clutching her stomach.
"Babe, are you okay?" Mike asks in concern.
Tina takes a deep breath and nods, gently rubbing her belly. "Yeah, I'm fine. This is definitely your baby – she won't stop dancing around in there," she says with a laugh before turning to Julia. "Was Mike like this too?"
Julia nods exaggeratedly. "Oh, yes, he wouldn't stop moving around in there – really I should have known he was a dancer since then."
Tina starts to laugh but then she winces in pain, clutching her stomach once again. "Okay, wait, I don't think she's just dancing – I think she's coming."
"She's coming?" Mike echoes, his voice shaky with equal panic and excitement.
Tina winces again, feeling another sharp pain in her abdomen. "Yes!"
Mike shoots up from his seat and helps Tina do the same. "Okay, let's go! Mom, do you mind grabbing the baby bag in our room?"
"I'm on it," Julia shouts before running inside the bedroom and the entire party rushes Tina to the hospital.
The baby shower party tries to occupy themselves in the hospital's waiting room in anticipation of the baby's arrival. Sam brings his guitar and sings little tunes with Blaine in an attempt to entertain the young fussy children while Brittany bounces around the room, unable to contain her excitement.
They all turn when the delivery room door opens and Mike comes out with a dazed but joyful grin. "She's here," he announces.
They all rush inside the birthing suite and find Tina in the bed, holding her newborn baby. "Hi, everyone. Meet our daughter," she announces softly as Mike takes a seat in the bed beside her.
Everyone gathers around the bed to greet the newborn, marvelling at her existence. At the sight of the baby, Brittany squeals excitedly and turns to her wife, "I knew it – their baby is Asian too."
"Yeah, she is, Britt," Mike says with a chuckle before placing a gentle kiss on his daughter's forehead, "And she's perfect."
For the first month of their newborn's life, Mike and Tina's mothers decide to stay in the city to help them get settled with the baby. At first, they were reluctant to accept their help – insisting that they were perfectly capable of taking care of their daughter on their own – but honestly, a newborn is a handful and they really appreciate all the help they can get.
After hours of non-stop crying, Mike and Tina managed to get the newborn down for a nap and now they are resting on the living room couch with Julia and Judi. It feels like only a few seconds of peace before the apartment is echoing with the sound of their baby's cries once again.
Judi starts to get up from the couch but is stopped by the feeling of Mike's hand on her arm. "It's okay – I've got her, Mrs. Double-C."
She can't help but smile at his words as he gets up to attend to his daughter but she suddenly furrows her eyebrows in realization. "Mike, I've told you so many times to just call me Mom."
Mike smiles sheepishly at his mother-in-law as he now cradles his daughter in his arms. "Sorry – I've got her, Mom."
a/n: it's so much fun to write this year's oscars like harry shum jr wasn't the one there (congrats to everything everywhere all at once for sweeping btw they deserved everything and more — maybe not jlc but i digress)… but i couldn't put a date on it even though i know it took place in march bc it wasn't fitting with my timeline & it was ruining the vision so we'll just have to suspend our belief for a moment…
also i was so tempted to name their baby after myself because i am actually their firstborn child but that just felt odd and narcissistic so i didn't name her at all & i'm leaving it up to your interpretation (but if in your mind the chang-squared baby is also named rosie then i'm not gonna argue)
but anyways, that is it! thank you to everyone that tuned in every week! i hope you all enjoyed reading my silly little fics as much as i enjoyed writing them. i don't know if i will be healed moving forward — let's hope i am! and ryan, ian, or brad, if you're thinking about making a gleeboot (which i really really fucking hope you're not). please consider giving me a tina & mike endgame — i mean, who cares about what jenna and kevin want? & beside i have some ideas! like idk save the last dance for me (gcv) is such a sick concept in my head, i kinda wish it was real…
one last thing: i also made another playlist on spotify featuring the songs the chapters are titled after (and a few more that were title contenders), if you're interested in checking it out — it has the same title as the fic. & if y'all wanna chat with me about glee or anything else honestly or want to give me feedback, feel free to follow me on twitter dannysmindy and instagram castellahiris or leave a comment/review!
