Girls' day had been a huge success, and the rest of the trip was amazing. They went snorkeling, fishing, and whale watching. The group had also gone for a hike all together, which made them a bit closer, having to work together to cross some of the obstacles that they came across.
But now, sitting on the plane home, Emily looked out the window at the clouds while Loki read a book beside her. She smiled at all of the memories that had been made the past couple of weeks, but she was eager to get home, even if it would be cold.
She looked over at Loki with a fond smile, seeing that he was in his own world reading The Lord of the Rings, a book she'd bought him while out shopping. I hope that Jarvis can give me an answer about how to talk to Frigga. I want to ask her about Loki's worries.
By the time the jet landed, Loki had finished his book and had fallen asleep in a hunched down position so his head could be on Emily's shoulder.
"It's so hard to believe he's an all powerful god when he's asleep. He looks almost childlike." Mary softly commented to Emily, sitting across the aisle from them.
Emily chuckled and nodded. "He's a big softy." She turned and kissed his cheek while running one hand through his hair. "We're home baby."
Loki yawned and sat up. He took a moment to look around and get his bearings. "Are there more of those books? I quite enjoyed that one."
"Yes. I can order you the rest of the series if you'd like," she answered, watching him unbuckle his belt and stand.
"I would like that very much. Can they be put directly into the tablet thingy?" Loki asked as he stretched.
Emily smiled as she stood, got their carry-on bags, and followed Loki off the plane. "Yes, I can get them for your tablet."
"I will get the bags darling. I just wanted a moment of fresh air before I send them to the room." Loki said when he looked behind him to see Emily.
"I don't mind carrying them," Emily replied, but let Loki take them from her anyway. "Are you eager to get back home?"
"I'm not having you carry the bags." Loki said, rolling his eyes. He waved his hands over the bags and made them vanish. "Now that we are this close, yes."
Emily chuckled as they climbed into the back of one of the cars Tony had valet for them. "I'm happy to come home too... even if it's cold."
"I was sad to leave, but now that we're here, I'm glad to be back. Does that make sense?" Loki asked as he slid in next to Emily.
"It does," Emily nodded. "We were having a lot of fun on the island, but everyone needs to return to work at some point."
Loki nodded in agreement. "I agree. I hope we can do another trip in the future though."
"We will," Emily assured. "We normally have one once or twice a year."
"That sounds nice. Do we go to the same place every time?" Loki asked curiously.
"Either the island or a resort that Tony finds," Emily answered as she looked over at him.
"Maybe the resort next time then?" Loki suggested. "It was really nice on the island. I didn't feel so... well, like the outcast." He softly admitted.
"I think you bonded with the guys a bit more on the island," Emily told him. "Steve sent us a video," she giggled.
"He never took a video. We were all right there the entire time." Loki said, feeling confused. "It was nice to feel like a part of the group, if only for a short time." Loki said truthfully.
"You are a part of the group Loki," she said softly, reaching over to squeeze his knee. "But I'll show you the video later. You have a beautiful singing voice."
"What are you-" Loki started to ask when the vague memories hit him, making him blush. "I... um... that wasn't..." He stammered, having no clue what he even wanted to say.
Emily leaned over and kissed his cheek. "It's okay. Don't be embarrassed."
"I'm not exactly much of a singer... no one should have ever heard that." Loki murmured, fighting the urge to fully apologize.
"Sweetheart," Emily grasped his chin and turned his face towards her. "I loved it. It was beautiful."
"Do you really think so?" Loki asked, still quite embarrassed. "So, I guess everyone has seen this video?"
"Yes, I think so. But yes, us girls have seen it. We were all enamored by your singing."
Loki felt more heat rise to his cheeks. "In my defense, I was drunk." He shrugged.
"I know. What you had to drink though I have no clue," she said as the car pulled up to the tower so they could get out.
"I don't know either. You'd have to ask the scientist. He made it for me." Loki told Emily. He opened the door and got out, then walked to the other side and opened Emily's for her.
"Bruce made a drink that was potent enough to get you drunk?" Emily questioned as she took his hand and stood.
"Yes. Does that surprise you?" Loki asked curiously. He looked around to see if everyone else was with them.
"A little," she admitted as she turned to see the second car pull up with Nat, Bruce, Steve, and Mary.
"What about it surprises you?" Loki asked Emily.
"I just didn't know Bruce had made anything," she replied.
"When I explained to him why Midgardian drink doesn't work, he offered to make me something." Loki shrugged.
"He's the life of the party once he's drunk." Bruce chuckled, hearing their conversation.
Emily grinned. "I imagine he is. I'll have to join in next time."
"We should all have a big party then." Nat suggested. "Maybe we will get another concert."
"Nat," Emily scolded with a laugh. "I think we'll wait on a party."
"Why? It would just be combining girl's and guy's day." Nat pointed out.
Emily sighed and rolled her eyes as they all walked into the tower. "Fine, we can have one in a week or two."
"If you really don't want to, we don't have to." Nat said truthfully.
"We can have one, I don't mind. I just don't want any of us to get wasted then have a sudden mission come up, that's all," Emily said as they piled in the elevator.
"Did you see any hangovers from us? I can cure those too." Bruce chuckled. He pressed the button for the twentieth floor, where his and Nat's were located.
Emily let Loki press the button for their floor. "That's true I guess." She looked over at Mary, seeing she was looking a little green. "Mar?"
"Hmm? Sorry, jet lag is really hitting me." Mary shrugged.
"Are you okay?" Emily questioned. "I can fix your special tea when we get home."
"Tea does sound nice." Mary said softly.
"Good night everyone." Nat told them when her and Bruce stepped off the elevator.
"Good night Nat, Bruce." Emily smiled, waving until the elevator doors shut closed once more, giving them a little more room in the large machine. "Did Tony fly in instead of drive?" she asked.
"We assume so as he didn't ride with any of us." Mary answered. She felt relieved when the elevator arrived at their floor. "I might just turn in instead of waiting up for tea."
Steve looked over at Mary with a growing worry. "Are you alright?" he asked softly, running a hand across her back. "You didn't feel well this morning either."
"I'm fine. It was probably just the fish we had for dinner. It rarely agrees with me." Mary answered, hoping Emily wouldn't say anything against that for the moment.
He pulled her into his side gently as they all stepped out into the hall, walking towards the large apartment. "Do you want me to make you anything?" he asked. "Get something for your stomach?"
"No, I just want to sleep it off. I'm sure I'll be fine by breakfast." Mary assured him, giving him the best smile she could manage.
Steve watched as Loki unlocked the door, then walked inside, everyone following in behind them. "Do you want me to stay?" he asked softly. "I know you don't feel well."
"What? Why wouldn't you stay? You pretty much live here now." Mary said, starting to get worried.
"It was just a suggestion babe." Steve kissed her temple gently, keeping one arm wrapped around her. "I didn't know if you had any special way you did things when you felt bad. That's all."
"Not really. Maybe just snuggle up and sleep?" Mary suggested, not feeling up to anything more than that.
"The sleepy tea really does help and would be worth waiting up for." Loki finally spoke up.
"Alright, I'll stay up just long enough for the tea." Mary said, giving in. If he gets curious, he'll have answers before I do.
Emily smiled at her sympathetically. "I'll heat the water in the microwave. It'll be quicker," she said softly.
Meanwhile Steve kissed the side of Mary's head. "I'll help her get ready for bed, just bring the tea to our room.
"Sure," Emily nodded, then headed into the kitchen.
"I'll just wear one of your shirts. Simple and comfy." Mary told Steve, finally managing a genuine smile. She felt somewhat relieved when Loki followed Emily.
Steve led Mary to their bedroom and shut the door so Mary could change. "Do you want to shower? Or just lay down?" Steve asked softly. I hope she's alright. This came on so suddenly.
"I'll shower in the morning. All I really want to do right now is sleep." Mary said truthfully.
"At least drink your tea," Steve said as he watched her sit on the edge of the bed, now changed into one of his shirts. He turned and opened the bedroom door so Emily would know she could come in.
"I will. There's really no need to be worried though. Fish rarely agrees with me." Mary tried to assure him.
Steve sat beside Mary and bent to kiss her cheek. "I just want to take care of you. You're my girl after all," he grinned.
Mary looked up at Steve and smiled, though she fought back tears. "You take great care of me already." She said truthfully, trying to keep her voice steady.
"Awe... Mary, honey." He moved to wrap his arms around her and kiss her hair. "I love taking care of you. I always will."
Mary tucked her face into his chest so he wouldn't see her tears. "I love you so much." She said softly.
"I love you too, babydoll," he soothed softly. "I'm not going anywhere."
"I don't ever want to lose you." Mary sniffled, unable to hold it back.
Steve scooted further on the bed before he gently pulled Mary onto his lap. "I'm right here," he murmured. "I'm not going anywhere. You're stuck with me, I promise."
Mary finally calmed herself. "I'm sorry for being so emotional. It tends to happen when I don't feel well."
"It's alright. You can be as emotional as you want to," Steve smiled.
"You're so sweet. I don't know what I'd do without you." Mary said softly. It's almost like you already know, but I know Em and Nat wouldn't break their promise.
Steve kissed the side of her head just as a knock sounded against the bedroom door. He turned and smiled at Emily, who held onto a deep purple mug that steamed. "That smells nice."
"It's lavender peppermint. I've always made it for Mary when she doesn't feel well." Emily walked into the bedroom and sat it on the nightstand beside the bed before she turned to her best friend. "Get some rest Mar. You'll feel more alert in the morning. I imagine the flight has messed with a lot of us."
"Thanks Em. I am going to get some sleep. I just hope I'm over this by morning." Mary sighed. "Can I call you, if I need to?"
Emily nodded. "Of course. You can text me or just yell for me. If I don't hear you, Loki will," she assured.
Mary shifted on Steve's lap so she could hug Emily. "You get some sleep too."
"Oh, we will," she assured. "Loki and I are exhausted."
"I'll make breakfast in the morning." Mary promised.
Emily smiled. "We would love that." She turned and walked to the bedroom door. "Night you two," she said softly, then closed it behind her.
Sighing softly, Emily walked through the living room and into her bedroom, feeling overly tired. "I think I'm going to just drop and sleep till June."
"I'll miss you far too much if you sleep that long." Loki replied. He looked up at Emily from his tablet, which he was reading in bed. "Is Lady Mary alright?"
"She's just tired and jetlagged," Emily answered with a yawn. She toed off her shoes, then removed her jeans before she took off her bra from under her shirt before climbing into bed beside him. "She thinks she ate something that didn't like her back."
"I rarely have that problem, but it can be a miserable feeling." Loki agreed. "I know some basic potions that might help, if she needs them." He set the tablet aside and wrapped his arms around her.
Emily smiled as she cuddled against his side. "I think she would really like that," she said tiredly.
"Should I make them now?" Loki asked curiously.
"If you want to. Although I think all of us need rest?" Emily answered.
"I will wait until morning then." Loki agreed. "If she isn't feeling any better, please offer them to her. They don't take long to make."
Emily yawned and nodded. "I will, I promise."
Loki snapped his fingers and the lights went out. "Get some sleep love." He said softly.
She chuckled softly before shuffling around to get covered by the blankets, then snuggled tightly against Loki's side, quickly falling asleep knowing Loki would follow soon after.
