Sorry for taking so long with these updates. I'm having issues with the fight scenes and pacing. I hope the pacing is getting better please let me know if it still feels rushed.
I turned on my quirk before I 'saddle' my horse and I made sure that I rested most of my weight on Ida. "We're good?" I asked my teammates as I took my bandana and flipped it around, and rested it around my neck.
"I'm good," Mina called out from behind me.
"Good to go," Ida said from underneath me.
I let out a shaky breath as I shifted around to get to a comfortable spot.
"Hey," Mina called out to me to which I looked down at her and into her bright smile. "We got this okay!" the pink hero gave me a thumbs up to match her smile. My lips uncontrollably pulled up slightly. Her smile was infectious.
"Right," I said as I turned my head back around to look at the other contestants. The different setups made it hard for me to accurately recount who was who, but each one of them had the same look.
Determination.
Eyes were either on me or Midoriya. Speaking of the boy, he looked like an absolute mess on top of his chariot.
Ida shifted and my body shifted with him which brought me back to what was going on.
"Alright when Midnight says go," I said lowering myself as I eyed the other students, particularly those of 1B. The one with mid-length spiked beige hair was staring at me. I think his quirk had to deal with softening or glue. "When she says go, full throttle straight at the spiky blonde hair dude."
"Are you sure?" Ida asked me.
My lips curled in a sadistic smile, "Of course," I smirked as my heart began to pump faster, "They won't expect it, they'll scatter to get out of the way."
"Right, I'll trust your judgment," Ida said which caused me to freeze a little inside. I was reminded that his brother is right now under attack by Stain. He will be wounded by the hero killer and forever disabled. Could I have saved him? Is his blood on my hands? I could give a thousand reasons why not telling Ida about his brother, or even his brother would be a bad idea.
"Begin!"
The sound of Midnight's voice broke my internal monologue and I put that to the side. I need to focus on the here and now. I'll worry about my sins later.
The roar of Ida's engine screamed as he activated his quirk and blasted us forward. Thanks to Mina's quirk Ida was able to speed up quickly without any resistance. The group of 1B students that were charging us paused and looked shocked as we rocketed toward them.
Adrenaline coursed through my veins and I couldn't help smiling as we rushed toward them. They tried to dodge but it was too late.
As we passed them, my bandaged hand struck and snatched the headband earning us 705 points. I put it on, making sure that none of the numbers were showing. "Left Drift!" I yelled out in English, "Let's go go go!"
"Roger!" Mina and Ida called out.
Ida activated his quirk and we jetted away while Mina turned her's on. We began to slide to the left before we straightened out and pushed on.
"And just like that Seth's team takes the lead! Snatching up 705 points." I heard Present Mic call out, "Look at them go!"
"Aizawa, tell us what you think about what is going on?" Present Mic asked his co-host, "Seth has made a huge impact on these games so far, yet he's only been in your class for about two weeks now. What have you been teaching him, hell what have you been teaching all of your students."
Aizawa let out a sigh, "Idiot, I've already told you, they just learned not to hesitate. In Seth's case, he has shown to be more familiar with his quirk than the average student. He's spent the majority of his free time, if not all, outside of class honing his control over his quirk. It's a versatile quirk, but the real test will be to how he will fare under constant attack."
My head was on a swivel as I looked around to keep an eye on the enemy. Make sure that no one is sneaking up on us. This didn't really help considering that everyone was coming after us. I guess this is like being on top huh?
"Look out!" Mina yelled out and my head snapped to see that ice was shooting right at us. Quickly I flung two Warps at the ice and stopped it in its tracks.
Suddenly we were jolted to a stop and I flung over my hands clasped on Ida's shoulders so I could perform a headstand on top of him. This gave me the view I needed to see what had caused our sudden stop. Ida and Mina's feet were covered in ice. I gritted my teeth. Todoroki must have sent two attacks, one to distract me and the other to stop us.
Damn it.
I felt my head tug to the side as Todoroki drove past us and snatched a band from my neck. "Mina take care of the ice!" I ordered as I slowly lowered myself back down.
As Mina used her acid to melt the ice I glared at Todoroki's team. The boy looked back briefly and gave a dismissive look. My chest began to burn and my body began to shake as rage consumed me.
That bastard. How dare he?! I'm not useless, I'm not weak, I'm not! I'll fucking show him. I'LL SHOW THEM ALL!
"Seth!" Ida yelled at me.
"What!" I snapped as I looked down to see the class rep's hardened eyes staring at me.
"We can still win this but we need you to lead us!" he shot back.
What?
My anger diffused as Ida's face formed into a reassuring smile, "You can do this!" he reaffirmed. "It's still early enough."
"That's right!" Mina said as she gave me a thumbs up. "You fought those villains all by yourself, remember and you won the race!"
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "You're right," I said slowly as I opened my eyes, "Sorry for blanking out on you."
They're right. I'm their leader. I need to lead them, they are relying on me to get them to the end. I have to get them there.
"Once we are free, let's keep moving!" I ordered as I kept looking around watching how the other groups were doing.
I clapped my hands together before I flung them out and created a bubble around us.
There was a loud explosion and I looked up to see Bakugo chasing after Midoriya's team.
My attention was drawn away from them by a barrage of attacks. It seems as though Class 1B is working together. I dropped my barrier and brought the biotic energy to my hands and started flinging biotic bubbles around me. This created an opening for Ida to zip us through.
Once freed I looked into the air to see that it was vacant, "He never touched the ground, so technically it's okay," I heard Midnight clarify.
Nice to know. So as long as I don't touch the ground I can jump around… interesting.
"It's been seven minutes so let's look at the scores," Present Mic's voice echoed from the speakers.
I looked up and was surprised at the current results of the battle.
"And it appears that Seth's team is still in the top three having managed to hold on to his ten million points"
Wait, what! Does that mean that Todoroki missed his grab? He must have gotten the 705 so that puts him at, no!
My hand reached down to the band around my neck and, I shook my head as my hand dropped back down.
Now is not the time to figure out the point cost. I am in second place I need to worry about maintaining my lead. It's time to put on my game face.
"Alright, let's-"
I felt the last bandana leave my neck and something touched my cheek. My eyes snapped towards the source and saw his smug look of Monoma. "You better keep your wits about you," he said as his hand began to flash blue as MY quirk activated on him! "Although I don't know what I expected from Class 1A sympathy case."
My eyes just remained glued to the boy as he began to use my quirk to distract some of the other teams.
Just like that went from second to last place.
"Seth…?"
He…copied my quirk.
My eye twitched.
The thing that makes me unique. The one thing that makes me, me. What makes me a hero. He's using it against others, my classmates!
"Uh…Seth?" I heard Mina say as she tapped my side. Her voice was distant, nothing more than a small buzz.
My power. My strength!
"Well, it looks like Team Seth is at zero points, and seems to have stalled. They better get a move on there are only ten minutes left!"
That…
…mother…
"Fucker," I growled as my quirk flared.
"Seth," Ida said worriedly.
"Oh I was just going to just run around," I said to myself ignoring my teammates, "just keep my points and move on, but noooo. They had to fuck with me, and now…Now" My lips pulled back as a toothy smile ripped from my lips. I watched as Monoma created a barrier around his team, repelling Bakugo's rage-filled attacks. "Now, now I'm going to crush everyone."
I looked at Ida who lost all the color from his face, "Ida…" I said before I brought up a hand towards Monoma. "Get him," I ordered, "We're going on the offense and kill all who stand in our way."
"Great we got another Bakugo," I heard Mina whisper to herself.
"Better hang on," I crackled as Ida began to run, his engine started to rev up as we started to pick up speed.
"What about his barrier," Ida shouted.
"If he took my quirk then he must have taken all of its properties," I said as a plan began to form in my head, "That includes its weakness and its source."
"Wait, you don't mean?" Mina said and I looked at her with a smile.
"Yep," I said before I turned back forward, "We're going to burn him out, and take back our points!"
When we got close enough I slowly stood up, "Get ready," I called over the noise of the battles that were around me.
"For what?" Ida asked, "And what do you mean burn him out."
I didn't say anything as I looked at Ida, "Catch me," I said simply as I jumped toward Monoma's bubble. My team let out a cry of surprise as I soared through the air. Monoma turned to me and I could see the strain on his face.
Good, that means that the calorie consumption and the shield's backlash were starting to get to him.
I landed on the bubble with a punch. With the assistance of my quirk, I kicked off so I was over the bubble and when I came down I enhanced my fist. I slammed my fist into the bubble and watched in glee as it started to flicker.
Just one more hit!
My quirk was sent into my foot and I spun my body so that my foot slammed into the bubble. As my foot came into contact it gave and shattered. I heard Monoma let out a cry of pain and while his teammates worked to keep him on I fell to the ground. As I fell I reached out and snatched at the bandanas gaining two. Just before I hit the ground I used my quirk to freeze in the air.
"Holy smokes! Seth launches into the air and smashes Monoma's bubble!" Present Mic's voice reverberated from the stadium's speakers.
Aizawa took that time and chimed in, "He took advantage of the fact Monoma took his quirk. Including its weakness."
Please explain, my melodramatic co-host!"
Aizawa let out a tired sigh before he answered, "Seth's quirk relies on his own energy. He has to consume a large number of calories in order to keep fighting. As such, he has trained to increase his endurance, something that Monoma currently lacks. On top of that Seth's biotic bubble seems to have a feedback system that affects the user mentally when creating those bubbles."
"So using the knowledge of his quirk Seth quickly gained the upper hand!" Present Mic clarified, "Man Seth's endurance must monstrous, it's only been a few minutes and Monoma looks like he's about to pass out, and yet Seth looks like he's not even breaking a sweat!"
"Seth used the fact that Monnoma did not have the training that he had with his quirk, and exploited it."
"Not bad for a newbie!"
I looked up at the surprised face of Monoma, "Nice try," I said as the roar of Ida's engine got closer. I held up my free hand just as my team came rushing by. Ida grabbed my hand and flipped me back on. With a smirk, I turned back to a furious Monoma and gave him the bird.
"Keep moving," I yelled at my team as I looked at the points that I had gathered. My eyes widened before I put them back on their numbers hidden. I got the million back plus 305. I shook my head to try and forget about going down that rabbit hole.
"Let's move," I said as my team sped up.
"What now," Mina said as she slid across the ground. I looked around to see that everyone had split up. Half were going after Midoriya while the other half…
"Slide right," I yelled as a torrent of green vines shot towards me. I wrapped my legs around the arms of Mina, who was holding on to Ida, to avoid the vines. I continued to circle around until I straightened back up. "All ahead!"
"Aim right for Midoriya!" I cried out with a hand pointed at the boy in question.
"What!" Mina yelled out, "But we don't need that many points!"
"We need to create a large enough lead," I yelled back, throwing a Lift at Tetsutetsu causing him to move out of the way, temporarily halting their next attack. "Just in case we get our stuff stolen again. Besides, it's either go big or go home!"
A wall of ice appeared in front of us and we had to drift to the side in order to not slam into the wall. "Find a way around this!"
"30 Seconds left," Present Mic's voice echoed through the stadium.
"There's no time! It would be best if we went after the other teams instead," Ida yelled out as he regained his grip and shot forward. "Right in front of us!"
I looked to where he said and saw that three teams were stuck in the ice. Two of them still had their headbands. "Fine,'' I said, hating the deviation of my plan, but it is the safest option. "Punch it!"
"Hang on!" Ida yelled as I heard his engines flare up, "And get ready we're only going to get one shot at this!"
"What…"
"Recipro Burst!" Ida yelled just before we took off.
The scream of the engine was the only thing I heard as we blasted forward at incredible speeds. The world became blurred and the wind screamed into my ears. Unable to pull out details I just held out my hands toward the different blobs. As we jetted by them I desperately grabbed at them.
"TIMES UP!"
Because I wasn't holding onto Ida when he stopped the momentum pushed me off and I hit the ground rolling as I went. When I came to a stop I stared at the sunny sky as the crowd went wild. I felt cloth in my hands and when I looked and saw that I had indeed grabbed the last remaining points. With a quick prayer, I got to my feet and turned to my team. I held up the bandanas in victory.
Mina let out a squeal as she jumped into my arms. Taken back I just held on to her as we spun around. "You did it!" she exclaimed as I set her back down on the ground
"We did it," I corrected as Ida came over to us with a slight limp. With a nod toward his legs which were smoking quite a lot, I asked, "Are you alright?"
Ida waved off my concern, "it's nothing too serious," he explained, "My engines will be stalled for a bit but other than that I'm alright." He then adjusted his glass so that the light glinted off of them, "But enough of that…WHAT ARE TWO DOING!" The class rep yelled out, chopping his hand toward me and Mina.
Mina cocked her head to the side which bumped into me and brought my attention to the fact that I still had my hands around Mina's waist and her's was around my neck.
Oh right.
I untangled from her grasp as Ida continued to yell, "That kind of behavior is inappropriate!"
I raised my eyebrow at Ida while Mina stared at my chest as she contemplated something, "What are you a virgin?" I said.
Ida sputtered and turned beet red just as Mina had a hand outstretched towards my chest. As the words left my mouth she stumbled and her black and yellow eyes blinked at me. Feeling the heat raise to my face I mumbled an apology and walked away quickly.
The crowd had settled down as Midnight stood on top of her podium. "Now let's announce the five teams that will move forward," she announced as a screen appeared behind her.
Wait, there were supposed to be four! What the hell changed?
"In first place is Team Todoroki," the face of Todorki and his team members appeared followed by mine, "second place is Team Seth, third place is Team Bakugo, fourth place is Team Shinso, and in fifth place is Team Midoriya!"
I looked over to see that Bakugo's team consisted of Kirishima and Sero.
Ah, I guess it makes sense now. That means that I'm replacing Kanimari in the finals. Here we go then.
