Pedro Madrigal was glad his mother had offered to take his kids. Don't get him wrong, he loved Casandra and Jaime but Cas had been more excited lately since her ceremony/birthday was next week and Jaime just thrived off his sister's excitement.
He had hoped to take his wife out today but alas when he went to get Hannah, she was absent from their room.
Pedro was stumped and waved at his Tia Dolores as she walked by, "Tia, have you seen Hannah?"
Dolores raised her eyebrow and titled her head listening, "she's in town, talking about….taking a trip maybe?"
The man made a face at that. She had briefly mentioned something about seeing her family but they hadn't settled on a plan since he was more concerned with her sadness he had felt last night. Maybe she was just getting a head start on planning the trip? Pedro still hadn't talked to his parents about it yet so he was neverious.
"Thanks Tia," He replied as Dolores made a little squeak and headed to her room.
Pedro stood in the hallway for a second thinking about whether he wanted to spend time with his dad or run into town to see if I could catch his wife, it was his off day and he didn't want to waste it.
When a hand came up and touched him he jumped. He turned to see a woman, probably early 20's. This woman caused him to do a double take as he stared at her, it was like looking at his mother, down to the green glasses on her face.
"Um, Tio Camilo?" Pedro asked, confused as he felt waves of awe coming from her.
The woman shook her head, "No." She smiled at him and adjusted his shirt collar and motioned to him to follow her to a glowing door he just now noticed existing next to his.
He blinked and read the name Casandra on it along with she the glowing image on the door of a young woman holding an hourglass in her left hand.
Wait….
"Is that Casandra's door?" Pedro asked confused as followed the woman to the door.
She opened it for him and motioned him in as his mother's door opened and revealed his father poking his head out.
Pedro's father, Alonso, did a double take as he looked at the young Mirabel looking woman. The woman studied him for a minute before waving awkwardly at him.
Alonso glanced at the door then at the woman again then chuckled and smiled, "Mirabel, did you get dragged into some Madrigal mischief?"
The woman looked surprised before smiling, "A little."
Alonso smiled and shook his head amused, "Ah, well have fun Mi Amor, Pedro."
"Meet you in a few years, Alonso," The woman smiled softly at him as he went back into his and Mirabel's room.
"Wait, are you my Mama?" Pedro asked very confused as the woman, Mirabel?, pushed him inside Casandra's room.
Pedro looked around the dark navy room filled with dots of light, it almost looked like a night sky.
"Hello Papi."
Pedro jumped and twirled to see a young woman that looked identical to the…younger version of his mother?
Wait….
"Casandra?" Pedro asked surprised at the woman, she had on the blue glasses he was used to seeing on his 4 years olds face and was doing the awkward kicking she did when she knew she had done something she technically wasn't suppose to.
Mirabel (he still was confused on that) walked past and over to Cas and gave her a pat on the back, "So, Pedro, light spoiler don't tell little Cassie but she has time powers for example," She motioned to her and Cas (dios that was his little girl?!) "time travel."
Cas nodded at what Mirabel had said, "I'm Casandra from the year 2016 and this is Mirabel from 1955."
Pedro held up his hands in a stop motion, "wait, wait, what?!"
"We're time travelers, keep up mijo," Mirabel rolled her eyes.
"Please don't call me Mijo," the man asked as he started at his past mother and future daughter, "Wait, why are you together?! I don't understand."
"Oh, um we're best friends," Cas example like it was no but deal.
"It's complicated," Mirabel added as she motioned to Cas, "But, we're here because Cas needed to talk to you. I'm just here as emotional support, since Cas' wife is busy with the triplets."
"Wife? Triplets?" Pedro stared at the girl, "Your 4…"
Cas gave Mirabel a look, "Pa, sit down. Let me catch you up a bit."
….
Pedro could feel Cas and Mira warm and loving feelings for the triplets in the photo. His grandchildren.
He handed the photo back to Mirabel and glanced at Cas. He tried not to pry into people's emotions with his gift, but he couldn't really turn it off. So he was concerned that everytime he looked at Casandra he felt intense sadness and a touch on rage, not anger rage.
"Um, Cas," Pedro asked tentatively as he looked at his daughter, "Not that its not nice to see you and see how great you turn out but why are you actually here?"
Cas tensed and started playing with her wedding ring, "Earlier today…I was saying goodbye to Mom….she's dying."
He stared in shock. He couldn't process what Cas had said and the wave of emotions hitting him was so much. Pedro wanted to ask how and why, but looking at the distraught look on his future daughters face, he knew he had to focus on her.
Pedro gave the woman a half hug, "Mariposa, I can't imagine how hard that is for you or what you and your brother are going through."
"You don't know the half of it," Mirabel muttered from her seat at the desk.
Not addressing that Pedro looked at his daughter again as she had tears well up in her eyes, "Casandra, it will be alright. I'm sure I'll be there to-" Suddenly a wave of grief and rage hit him. He knew this feeling. He had felt it before.
From people whos family members had died, from orphans.
He shot up and stared at her in shock, "Tell me I'm not…"
The silence that follows is all he needed as sadness and anger washed over me and he simply looked as Mirabel walked over and rubbed Cas' back as she sat lightly crying.
Oh god. He was dead. He was dead. His kids were going to be orphans. How? Why? What? He was dead?
Cas cried, it wasn't deep sobs but still a sad sight as Mirabel rubbed her back some more, "I'm sorry, Papi. I'm sorry. I tried to save you. I did, but my powers don't work like that. They don't. I don't even know why I came to see you. It won't change the future, you'll still be gone"
At that moment Pedro just looked at Casandra. It didn't matter, that he just learned he was dead and his wife was in the middle of dying. He just saw his little girl crying. He rushed over allowing Mirabel to step back as he wrapped his daughter in a hug and allowed her to cry into his arms.
"It's okay, mija. It's okay," Pedro told her as he planted a kiss on her head.
"Papa, I miss you so much," Cas wept as she hugged him, "And I've been so angry at you. You left me.I can never bring you back and I miss you. Why did you leave me? I love you so much and you left me! And Jaime! And Abuela Mirabel! You left us!"
Pedro just held his daughter as she cried.
…..
Later Cas laid in the middle of her and Gabriela's bed as she stared at the clock created from the visiting her father now on the wall next to Mirabel's timeline's clock. She felt exhausted.
Mirabel patted her arm waking her from her daze, "How do you feel?"
Cas just smiled sadly at her, "Like…I think I have closure."
Author's Note
This chapter was inspired by the final episode of Locke & Key, a netflix show I would actually recommend.
anyway, Cas can't change the timeline, it's complicated again Dragonball Z rules, she creates branch timelines.
You can decided if you think Cas and Mirabel told that Pedro or not about his fate or what Hannah would eventually do and if that changed anything for him.. But Cas just needed her dad at the end of her tough time with her mom and needed to let go of some stuff she was holding on to.
Thanks for reading and please review it gives me warm fuzzies that I diffently need this week.
Next chapter- the epilogue
