Author's Note (27th January 2023): Hello there! Hope you all are having a wonderful day/night depending on where you are right now. Last chapter took 4 months to finish so I'm gonna make sure that this chapter is finished is lesser amount of time. I just want to say in advance that my exams are coming up so this chapter will take some amount of time to finish but it won't be very long. Anyways let's get to it.

Chapter 6

Hiccup felt time had stood still, refusing to move. He hated gloomy weather. The grey clouds and the light rain that always came with it. Whenever the gloomy weather came it meant he couldn't play outside anymore with his dragon toys and had to sit inside and wait for the rain to pass. Yet this time was different. Out of all the times it could have come, it had decided to come right at that moment, as if making fun of his new situation. The words of the priest had zoned out of his mind, only the pitter-patter of the rain in the cemetery filled his mind. It was their turn now. Hiccup, along with his father, stepped forwards to the casket. His mother's photo had been placed on the side, how he missed sleeping in her arms, her bedtime songs and the love he had now lost. Hiccup threw a flower at the casket which lay 6 feet into the ground. He walked over to the side while his father also threw one. Hiccup was having a hard time processing what was going on around him. In just the span of a couple days his life went from one full of joy to one completely void of it. He also didn't know if it was just the water of the rain or if his father really was crying. He couldn't imagine his father crying, his strong spirit and tough mind.

"W-We'll get through this son." He said in a low tone as he took Hiccup's small hand into his large, beefy one. One-by-one everyone gave their respects and in the blink of an eye the crowd slowly became thinner. Soon everyone had left the only living in the cemetery was Hiccup and his father.

That day a new gravestone was added, another soul in the halls of Valhalla...

Hiccup woke up in a cold sweat. He was back in his current body, the memory of his mother's grave still fresh in his mind. He lay back down and stared at the ceiling. The gloomy weather outside didn't help. Just like 13 years' back, it had once again come to crack another joke at him...

It had been some of the best four month's Hiccup had ever experienced. Four months after his amazing night with Amy. Toothless had nothing else to do except ship both of them constantly. Despite it being annoying from time to time, Toothless knew his limits. By around the first week everyone knew about them. Yet it wasn't the main news that was going around. Over the past four months the Nation of Untied Islands had been launching devastating blows against the terrorist organization which had decided to target them. Rumours were being spread that soon the main masterminds behind all the attacks would be arrested and then executed. The war was finally coming to an end. Most people would have been happy that a war on this scale was finally ending, but Hiccup wasn't happy. Every time someone brought up the apparent 'end of the war' Hiccup felt as if another weight had been added into his chest, dragging him down more. The end of the war could only mean one thing, that he would be going back to his old life in the big white house. That also meant he would have to leave Amy. Just thinking of it made him feel so much pain on the inside, the same pain he felt when his mother died. He didn't want to leave Amy. For the first time in a very long time, he'd actually felt happy in his life. The White House, despite being very big, didn't have any room for having friends come over occasionally. Inside the walls of the place, was just sadness and depression. The lonely corridors and the lifeless rooms were the only things there. His father was always busy and the real friend he had was Gobber, the family chauffeur.

Now he had friends, proper friends, and a wonderful girlfriend. Life couldn't have been better for him. But now all of it would be snatched away. The sudden morning bell yanked him out of his thoughts as he made his way to attend first period...

Astrid walked down the hallway, books in hand, on her way to the classroom. For her the last four months had made her genuinely happy in her life. She'd never really felt that due to all the mission's she had went through, all the long hard hours or training. Finally, she actually had a reason to be happy, a genuine reason.

Yet all this came with a price. The war was ending. The reason she was here in the first place, the reason she came all the way to Berk, was slowly leaving her. Soon after the war was over, she'd be called back to HQ and then again sent on some-or-the other mission. Most importantly, she'd have to leave Hiccup. Every time she even thought of it, a new wave of guilt would wash over her. This whole time all she had done was lied. Lied about who she really was, lied about why she had come to Berk, lied about her whole life. In her guilt another thought came to mind, another thing worrying her. She still hadn't found the spy...

Astrid was contemplating if there even was a spy. For the past four months she had kept her eyes open, seeing everyone. She managed to keep tabs on everyone's movements and narrowing down potential suspects. Her prime suspect was Ulf. No recorded family, no records of him even moving to Berk. He was a loner, never speaking to anyone, never interfering nor speaking. He just watched, as if he was learning about everything going on, everyone around him. That day when Hiccup had almost got poisoned by the water from the water filter, Ulf was there. He had very easy opportunity to poison his drink. It had to be him, it could be no one else. Astrid couldn't leave Hiccup knowing the person sent to possibly kill him was still walking around free...

Astrid finally found herself in the class. She took a seat as the bell rang.

Astrid's shoulder met Hiccup's as everyone rushed past them and out the doors. Finally, they made it out of the building. The lush green grass bounced the warm afternoon sunlight giving them a gleaming look. The road Infront of them filled with cars and buses taking everyone home. Astrid spotted the gang in an out-of-the-way spot. She and Hiccup walked over to them. They discussed about school for a bit before a black car came to pick Hiccup up. They all wished him goodbye before he left. Astrid too bid them all goodbye as she started making her way. She normally walked home as it helped her cover story and was a great form of exercise. She started her walk, passing the familiar large oak tree and the houses on the side of the road. She took a turn onto a very narrow street. As she turned, she noticed a dark figure standing there. She instinctively ducked behind a fence and peered over it and to her surprise, it was Ulf. He looked very stressed, almost in a panicked state as he cautiously checked behind his back every couple of seconds to see if anyone was following him. Suddenly, he dashed into an alleyway, leaving only dust behind. Astrid gave chase. Ulf was fast, but she was faster. She managed to slowly catch up with him as they entered the slums of Berk.

It was the place where the poor lived. Those who couldn't afford proper housing. Years ago, the Government had started a special program to educate those who lived in the poorest societies of Berk and allow them a chance to rise and join the rest of the middle-class population. Astrid was still giving running behind Ulf. She noted the way he turned and maneuverer around this dense concrete forest. He still hadn't noticed Astrid running 20 meters behind him. He was running as if he was almost in a hurry, as if he was late to a meeting. Astrid made sure to keep some distance, she had to know where he was going. She passed a local school and an old bar. This area of society had managed to make some sorts of improvement, yet there was a lot of room left to improve. Ulf dashed into another alley yet when Astrid took that turn, he was gone. Vanished into thin air. Her senses spiked as she slowly walked down the only possible path he could gave gone, straight into the docks. Astrid cautiously walked past rows of shipping containers until Infront of her was the frigid dark blue waters of the Isle of Berk.

"You came all this way for me? I am flattered." Astrid turned around, her right hand swiftly moving to her hidden gun inside her bag. A sudden sense of surprise mixed with dread swept over her.

"Looking for something?" The voice asked as from a shadow to her left her gun slide across the floor until it was just 3 meters away from her.

"Who are you?" She asked as she glanced around at all the possible places this phantom could be.

"I've been watching you for a while now 'Amy', you intrigue me."

"Well, I've never been known to disappoint." She replied as she dashed for her gun. As she reached out to get it and, in a flash, was suddenly faced with her reflection, the reflection of a knife.

"Don't even think about it." Astrid moved away from the knife which had been thrown at her and looked in the direction it could have been thrown from.

"I was intrigued, now I'm impressed." The voice said. Infront of a ghastly shadow caused by the containers stood a figure. In his hands were very sharp blades, Astrid couldn't recognize them. They weren't military edition. He stood clad in black, with a menacing hood to match.

"I thought you'd be taller." Astrid said drawing out her own hidden knife from her boot.

"Looks can be deceiving." He said twirling his knife in his hand, "Just like you, Astrid Hofferson."

"Who told you that name?"

"You've intrigued me for a while, no trace of you anywhere until you just showed up on Berk three months before your little boyfriend showed up as well. It didn't take that long to hack into the government records and find out who you really were."

"So, you're the one they sent to capture Hiccup huh."

"And you're the one they sent to protect him, yet you somehow failed that as well."

"I haven't failed yet."

"Are you sure about that?" He threw a backpack in front of her, its contents spilling out. Textbook and notebooks lay scattered on the floor. Astrid was horrified. She threw her knife at him but to her disappointment, he was gone. Tears came to her eyes as she stared running with only one destination in mind, Hiccup's home.

Astrid ran up to the front door, ignoring her complete exhaustion. It was slightly open. Her heart fell into her stomach as she slowly opened the door, gun in hand. As she took a step inside, she felt something wet hit her foot. She was all too familiar with the crimson liquid. The walls had marks of blood on them as the dead security team lay on the floor. There were some knife marks along the walls and broken furniture everywhere. The security team had put up their last fight here. Astrid stepped over their disfigured and bloody bodies as she rushed up stairs and kicked open the door to Hiccup's room. A cry arose from her throat but never came out. On the wall opposite to the door was a note pinned by a knife, the same one which almost killed her. She plucked the note out as tears streamed from her eyes. On the note only two words were written,

You failed...

Authors note (22nd March 2023): Almost 3 months of waiting time for this chapter. I had my end term exams and those were pretty hard but they're over with.
