Wednesday came quickly for the Jack and Nikki and they were now in the maternity unit waiting to be called in. Jack held Nikki's hand in his and intertwined their fingers together. They say in a comfortable silence, but to nervous to speak but happy that they were here together.

"Nikki Alexander?" They heard a woman call out.

Jack and Nikki stood up and walked towards the midwife and walked in the room after her.

"Welcome, my name is Natalie and i'll be your midwife for today, it's your first ultrasound right?" Natalie asks the pair.

"Yes, it is." Nikki replied while playing with the hem of her shirt nervously.

Natalie smiled at Nikki. "Great, well you can lay down on the table and lift your shirt love."

Nikki nodded and went to lay down on the examination table and lifted her shirt to show her, for now, flat stomach. Jack sat besides the table on a chair and held Nikki's already waiting hand.

Natalie walked to the other side of Nikki and prepared everything for the ultrasound.

Nikki let out a big breath and looked at Jack with a worried face, she squeezed his hand and felt his other hand stroke her hair to comfort her.

"How far along do you think you are love?" Natalie asks Nikki and Jack.

"I think about 7 weeks now." Nikki replied.

"Okay, we'll take a look now." Natalie replied while grabbing the gel. "I'm going to put the gel on your stomach now, it's pretty cold." Natalie said while putting the cold gel on Nikki's stomach. She moved the probe around Nikki's stomach and looks at the screen next to her.

Both Nikki and Jack looked at the big screen that was in front of them, still holding on to one another.

"There you are little one." Natalie said looking at the screen while putting some more pressure on Nikki's stomach. "By the looks of it you're a little more then 7 weeks pregnant, let me measure the baby for one second."

"Longer? But i did have a period around 7 weeks ago." Nikki replied while looking at Natalie.

"Was it a normal period? Like around the same amount of days then usual?" Natalie asks.

"I don't quite remember but i do recall finding it strange it was very short and i didn't lose that much of blood."

"Is doesn't happen a lot but blood loss can happen during a short period of time in the first few of pregnancy, it might've looked like a period." Natalie replied with a smile. "You're 10 weeks, almost 11 pregnant."

"Almost 11 weeks? How come i didn't notice it? I hardly got any morning sickness until 2 days ago." Nikki replied shocked, she looked at Jack who had the same shocked expression.

"Not every woman is the same love, each pregnancy is different, some woman even won't get any morning sickness." Natalie replied, she looks back at the screen and began to type something with her free hand. "I'm going to look for the heartbeat right now, it might take a while so don't panic, okay?" She smiled and looked at the pair.

Jack and Nikki both nodded and looked at each other. "We're almost completed the first trimester then.." Nikki said.

"I'm still in shock." Jack replied with a chuckle and kissed Nikki's hand. "But very excited."

After a few moments they heard a strong heartbeat filling the room, both Nikki and Jack looked at each other and a big smile appeared on their faces.

"Wow." Jack let out.

"Wow indeed." Nikki said still locking eyes with Jack. "I love you."

"I love you too." Jack said while leaning it to briefly kiss her lips.

Natalie smiled at the pair and made sure to get the pair some pictures of the ultrasounds.

"So the baby is doing very well, denveloping as we wished. We'll do more tests in the next ultrasound, but i see no strange things." She said while giving Nikki some paper wipes to wipe her stomach clean. "You're due date will be around the 15th of August, we will schedule the next ultrasounds for the 13 week ultrasound and 20 week ultrasound you can do that at the office." Natalie said with a smile. "Congratulations you two."

"Thank you so much." Nikki said while wiping her stomach clean, once done she sat up and got of the table with some help from Jack.

"Do you have any more questions for me before you leave?" Natalie said while puttinf everything back in place.

"Not a question but mostly a concern, i drank some wine the last few weeks, i didn't know i was pregnant but i do worry about it, it wasn't much but still." Nikki said.

"Your baby looks very well and grows to our wishes, there is nothing to worry about. Do stop from now on with alcohol, but i think you already do." Natalie said with a soft voice.

"Yes i stopped immediately when we found out. Thank you again."

"No problem love, have a nice day and we'll see you in about 2 weeks for the 13 week ultrasound. Here are some pictures of your baby." Natalie said while handing Nikki 4 ultrasound pictures.

Nikki smiled and grabbed the pictures, she handed them to Jack and walked out of the room with Jack to make the next appointments.

"This is amazing Jack, look at our baby." Nikki said while holding up one of the ultrasound photo's for Jack to see while he was driving them to work.

Jack smiled and looked at the photo briefly before focusing back on the road. "It's perfect." He replied while his left hand rested on Nikki's thigh.

"He is." Nikki said.

"He?" Jack responded while glancing at Nikki when they stopped for a red traffic light.

"I have a feeling."

"Yea, well i have a feeling it's a girl. I love the idea of a little Nikki running around the house." Jack said with a big smile before refocusing back on the road when the light turned green.

Nikki giggled and puts the photo's in her purse. "And i like the idea of a little Jack running around, you guys playing soccer in the garden."

"I could also play soccer with my daughter."

"That's very true."

Jack smirked at that comment and the couple drove in silence back to work.

Once at the Lyell Nikki and Jack walked towards their desks and settled themselves in to do a lot of paperwork, Nikki had no PM's today but did needed to finish 5 reports.

"Goodmorning." They hear Gabriel say while he walked into the main office area.

"Morning." The pair replied in unison.

"Did the appointment go well?" Gabriel asks the pair.

"Yea, went veru well. Thank you for covering my on call service this morning." Nikki said with a smile.

"No worries." Gabriel said returning the smile. "This might come as a surprise but we've got a new colleague, i talked to her the past weeks but she wanted me not to tell anymore here. She's here now and will join us as a forensic examiner. She's in my office and ready to meet you both." Gabriel said while gesturing for both Nikki and Jack to follow them.

Once at Gabriel's office both Nikki and Jack let our a gasp and a big smile appeared on both their faces.

"Clarissa!" Nikki almost yelled in her enthusiasm.

"Missed me?" Clarissa said with a smirk.

"Hey oldie." Jack said walking up to Clarissa to gave her a hug.

"Jesus Jack, your arms get bigger each time i see you!"

"They really do grow each year Clarissa!" Nikki said in a laugh and went to hug Clarissa after Jack.

"You look amazing Nikki." Clarissa said when Nikki pulled away from the hug.

"Thank you, you look amazing too." Nikki replied.

"So you're back? Like for real?" Jack asks Clarissa.

"Yes, i am. Max and i had the best time the last few years but a few weeks back i just missed work. Max decided to work less and i wanted to go back in the field. I won't be back fulltime, i will work for three days." Clarissa said.

"Good for you Clarissa. We missed you so much." Nikki said with a smile.

"I've missed you both too, and the lyell ofcourse, it really feels like coming home."

Nikki felt something coming up from her stomach and nudges Jack.

"You okay?" Jack said worried.

"Excuse me for a second." Nikki said while her hand came to her mouth, she walked out of the room and went straight to toilets.

Both Clarissa and Gabriel looked at Jack with worried looks.

"She isn't feeling well." Jack replied quickly.

"Mhmm." Clarissa replied while giving Jack a smirk.

Nikki came back after a few minutes and went to stand next to Jack again, she noticed the silence in the room and the looks both Clarissa and Gabriel gave her.

"Are you feeling okay?" Gabriel asked.

"Yes, i'm fine." Nikki replied with a faint smile.

Jack clears his throat and tried to move on from this subject. "So, to celebrate that you're back, what about diner at our place? Chinese takeout?"

Clarissa smirks at the pair knowing exactly what Jack did there. "I'm in."

"Great, Gabriel?"

"I can't unfortunately, i have a squash game at 7." Gabriel replied.

"Too bad, next time perhaps." Jack said and looked at Clarissa. "Should we pay a visit to Velvy? He'd be delighted to see you."

"Yes, tell me all about how he is doing." Clarissa said and lead Jack out of Gabriel's office.

Nikki closed the door behind them and looked at Gabriel. "We need to talk."

"I know." Gabriel replied with a smile.

"What?" Nikki said confused.

"Look Nikki, i'm a doctor. I knew it from the moment i saw you getting nauseous monday. How far along are you?"

"Almost 11 weeks."

"Are you both happy about it?"

"Very." Nikki smiled.

"Congratulations." Gabriel replied.

"Thank you. Look we haven't told anyone yet, i felt like i should tell you but can you keep it to yourself? We want to wait until we finish the first trimester before we announce it."

"Don't worry, you're secret is safe with me." Gabriel said still keeping a smile on his face. "I'm very happy for the both of you."

"Thank you Gabriel." Nikki said with a smile, she walks to the door and opens it to made her way back to the main offices to sit at her desk, she opens a drawer and pulls out multiple files that needed to be filled in.

After awhile she felt a arm wrap around the back of her chair and another arm leaning on the right side of her desk. She looked up and met Jack's eyes. "Hey."

"Hi there, feeling okay?" He said in a soft voice.

"Mhm not really, having a big headache now too." Nikki said while rubbing her temples. "I told Gabriel."

"Really? I thought we would wait with telling."

"I'm sorry." Nikki said while her eyes filled with tears.

"Hey." Jack said kneeling down next to her. "Don't be sorry Nik, it's okay! He's our boss, you did the right thing." He said while grabbing her hand and stroking it.

"God, these hormones are driving me mad, bawling my eyes out over nothing."

Jack chuckled and kept stroking her hand and wiping her tears away with his other hand. "Loving this hormonal Nikki already, don't worry about it Nik, soon we'll tell everyone so we don't have to hide it." He planted a kiss on her cheek. "How did Gabriel react?"

"He already knew it, he knew if from the moment i became nauseous the first time."

Jack let out a small laugh and stood back up. "Yeah, he's a doctor Nik, it's his job."

"Mhmm. Shit." Nikki replied while she closes her eyes and felt another rush in her stomach, she stood up again and ran to the toilet.

After a few minutes Nikki came back and sat back at her desk and puts her head in her hands. "I feel like shit, probably look like it as well."

"You look beautiful Nik."

"You're sweet, but you're only saying that because i'm carrying your child."

"Busted." Jack said with a chuckle and kissed the top of her head. "And because i love you and do think you look beautiful.. carrying my child."

Nikki laughed and looked at him. "Well it's a good thing i love you too."

"Come, i'm bringing you home."

"No, i'm fine Jack."

"You're clearly not." Jack said and walked to his own desk to grab his coat and car keys.

"Jack... this will look suspicious too."

"Don't worry about that Nikki, you're more important okay?"

"He's right Nikki, go home. We can handle it here." Gabriel said while walking in the main office startling the two who clearly didn't hear him coming in.

Nikki sighed and looked between the two men. "I have paperwork to finish."

"Split the paperwork and give me the other half, i can also help. Take the other half with you but take it easy and let Jack bring you home. You're taking care of 2 persons right now and that's tough." Gabriel said while taking some paperwork of Nikki's desk.

"Fine." Nikki said knowing she couldn't win this argument with Jack and Gabriel.

Jack chuckled and helped Nikki with her coat and grabbed the rest of her paperwork in his arms. "Should i move the diner with Clarissa?"

"No, no! I would love to catch up with her, ask Velvy too if he wants to join." Nikki said looking up at Jack.

"I will, now come on, let's bring you home." Jack smiled down at her and wrapped a arm around her shoulders and walked out of the Lyell together with Nikki to bring her home.

"Welcome to casa Hodgson." Jack said while leading Clarissa in his home.

"Such a nice place Jack, i love the open space." Clarissa replied while riding through the hallway to the living room.

"Thanks oldie."

Clarissa laughed and have her coat and bag to Jack who sets it away in the hallway. "Where is Nikki?" Clarissa asked while inspecting the living room for Nikki.

"Good question, make yourself at home while i'll look for her." Jack said while walking in the kitchen to see if Nikki might be there, when he found a empty kitchen he made his way upstairs and walked in their bedroom to see Nikki fast asleep on their bed. He smiled and walked up to her and kneeled down besides her, he strokes her hair and kissed her forehead which made Nikki slowly stir. "Hey there."

Nikki slowly opened her eyes and looked around to take in her surroundings, she smiled at Jack. "Mhm, hey handsome."

Jack smiles and leaned in to slowly kiss her lips for a few moments. "How was your afternoon?"

"It went okay, finished my paperwork and then felt like i should take a nap."

"At what time did you go to sleep?"

"Around 4? I talked a bit with your dad before he had to leave to meet up with his mates."

"It's 5:30 now, Clarissa is downstairs so i'll better be a good host and give her something to drink and order the food, do you want your usual?" Jack asks Nikki still stroking her hair.

"Yes please, with some extra chicken please, i'm starving."

"Eating for two already i see." Jack replied with a small laugh. "I'm going downstairs, take your time okay?" Jack said retrieving a nod from Nikki, he smiled and planted another kiss on her lips before heading back downstairs to see Clarissa exploring his living room.

"Is she okay?" Clarissa asked.

"Yes, she was tired and went for a nap upstairs." Jack replied, he picked up his phone and looked back at Clarissa again. "You want the usual?"

Clarissa nodded at Jack. "I'm surprised you still remember it."

"We almost had chinese each week before you left, ofcourse i remember."

"That's true." Clarissa said back with a smile. "Where are your dad and Cara? I love to meet Cara, heard so much about her."

"My dad is out with some old friends for drinks and diner and Cara has a evening lecture, she will be here before you leave, i told her you wanted to meet her."

"Great."

Jack grabbed his phone and dialed the chinese restaurant to order the food for them.

"Hey Clarissa." Nikki said while walking in the living room.

"Hey Nikki, feeling better?"

"Hm a little bit, very hungry though." Nikki replied. "Velvy couldn't join?"

"No, he had spinning class."

Nikki giggled and sat down on the couch.

"Food will be here in 30 minutes, want something to drink Clarissa?" Jack asked putting his phone away on the table.

"I'll have some white wine please." Clarissa replied.

Jack nodded and walked in the kitchen.

"How's Max doing?" Nikki asks while grabbing a blanket to put it around her.

"He's doing very well, happy at work and great at home. He will pick me up later tonight, he can't wait to see you two again."

Nikki smiled. "I can't wait to see him too, i'm so happy you're back. Feels really good having you back, like the old times."

"I'm actually happy to be back too, i never thought i'd come back, but here we are again." Clarissa said with a laugh.

Jack walked back in the living room and gave Clarissa her glass of wine, he handed Nikki a glass of water, he walked back in the kitchen to retrieve his own glass of red wine and made his way back to sit next to Nikki on the couch.

"No wine for you Nikki?" Clarissa asked curiously.

Nikki shook her head and quickly glanced at Jack.

Clarissa smirked and looked at the pair. "Look, you both are terrible at keeping secrets."

"What?" Jack and Nikki said in unison.

"I'm a woman Nikki, i can sense something is up, i know you're pregnant."

Nikki's mouth flew open in shock. Jack just chuckles and looks at Clarissa. "You always know everything don't you Ms. Mullery?"

"You know me well Jack, and i know the both of you very well." Clarissa smirked, she looks at Nikki who was still in shock. "How far along? Not that far i think? I don't see a bump yet."

"She's almost 11 weeks, we had a ultrasound this morning." Jack said proudly, he grabbed his wallet and pulled out a ultrasound photo that he put in there after the appointment.

"Well look at this little one, a real Hodgson baby." Clarissa said while looking at the photo. "I'm so happy for the both of you, i was delighted to hear you two finally knocked some senses into your heads and got together. Now look at you two, engaged and expecting, aunt Clarissa is a very happy woman. Congratulations you two, come on give me a hug." Clarissa said with a big smile opening her arms.

Nikki and Jack smiled at each other before both getting up to hug Clarissa.

"So, no one knows yet?" Clarissa asked when Jack and Nikki went back to sit down on the couch.

"Only you and Gabriel, he also noticed it..." Nikki replied while covering herself again with the blanket.

Clarissa laughed and took a sip from her wine. "When will you tell your dad and Cara?"

"We plan on doing that after the 13 week ultrasound, but it could be possible they figure it out too, my da is close though, he keeps following us and we only know it for 3 days." Jack said, his hand came to rest on Nikki's knee.

"Yeah like i said, you're both terrible at keeping secrets." Clarissa said looking at the couple.
