5. Queenie Goldstein
Queenie nervously taps her foot against the floorboard as she waits for the presence of British Head Auror to appear. He had sent an Owl around a week ago, alerting her of his potential presence, but he hadn't given any context as to why. Queenie was always welcome to guests - especially to people Newt liked - but he knew that Theseus wasn't here for casual chit-chat. After all, they barely knew each other. The only thing that really bonded them was that they were close to Newt; at least, Queenie was pretty sure the brothers were close.
When Theseus arrives with a cloud of green smoke rising around him, Queenie tries to hide her look of surprise. Theseus and Newt looked far more similar than she thought, with the sharp jawline and the almost-pouty lips. However, Scamander's face is stern and screams sophisticated and someone who knew what he was doing. She had heard about Theseus, the War Hero, after all. She just didn't know what to expect.
"Nice to meet you," Theseus pauses, "Mrs Kowalski? Ms Goldstein? Which do you prefer?" "Oh, Queenie is just fine," she replies with a shy grin. Theseus hums, "I don't have too much time on my hands, so I hope you don't mind me being more direct than usual." Queenie nods; English people really have a thing about politeness, huh.
"I hope it's not too much to ask, but do you know the exact locations of where Nurmenbarg Castle? It's for an urgent Ministry thing." The American could only give an uneasy look. "Yes, but…" "Please, Queenie." Theseus doesn't like forcing anyone to say anything, even verbally, especially if he doesn't know them well, but he doesn't have a choice. He needs to solidify his mission and fast.
"It's in the Austrian Alps." The moment those words left Queenie's mouth, Theseus bitterly groaned. It'd be hard to transport Aurors there, let alone convince any to go in the first place. "It's along the river and near the tallest peaks of the mountain range. I don't know the exact location, though," Queenie apologised, although Theseus dismissed this and told her it was not her fault. To Theseus, Queenie knows any piece of information is enough.
But her nerves picked up before Theseus could excuse himself to leave. "You won't tell anyone it was me, right?" Her voice bounces back and forth in anxiety - at times like this, she was a potential asset that could lead to her own downfall. The Auror only returns a firm, but silent, nod.
Queenie could only watch as Theseus returned under the fireplace, mumbled under his breath and disappeared just as he had arrived. And it's only when the realisation hits that Theseus was hiding something from her when her mind has been too empty without the thoughts of other people that she finds herself on the ground, tears staining her pretty face. And when her husband asks what's wrong ever-so-sweetly, she only says, "Theseus is an Auror."
