Chapter 23. Camping out.
Forest of Dean,
Western Gloucestershire, UK
3rd June 1986
10 PM.
"How did you get Bones to go out with you? Ever since I can remember, as soon as Bones was near the premises, you turned into a stuttering idiot," said Remus.
"Look you fleabag, just because you don't have the sophisticated moves, doesn't mean I don't. I mean yeah, Bones is hot in uniform and I noticed," said Sirius, as he turned his carp to crisp evenly on the fire.
"Merlin, I remember, you were worse than a quidditch fan, blabbering everything that Bones did back in the academy. James and, well, not the rat, but James and I, had a bet on when you were going to get your affairs in order and ask the woman out," said Remus as he got a piece of wood added to the bonfire. He stopped and his eyes became a golden shade, his voice rasped as he said, "someone is coming,"
A voice did answer, "Well, well, well, if it isn't the last of Blacks and little boy wolf," said a deep voice, which made Remus stand defensively.
He began laughing as eight more figures, all members of his pack, began laughing in synch.
"This is our land, and you decided to make camp here, are you stupid? You just invited the Devil to the party," said the massive man, now stepping closer to the light.
Both Sirius and Remus took a look at each other and smiled. Then Sirius added, "you're not the devil Grayback, you're practice." He stepped aside and turned a switch and rods of silver pierced the weres behind the leader in seconds, making mincemeat of anyone behind him. Grayback jumped ahead, only to be rejected by an elfish dome of magic.
Sirius and Remus had their shotguns loaded and when Grayback landed, he was gunned down with a silver shot until he resembled a strainer.
Gringotts again received the remains and since they wanted to make news of their services of bounty hunting, the head of Grayback was placed in stasis and put in the trophy room of Gringotts for those able wizards to consider the bank as an option for hunting their enemies, all within budget.
To Harry, Sirius, and Remus, it was all good.
"But really, how did you get Bones to consider you as boyfriend material?" asked Remus.
"She tired of him being tongue-tied and took him to the most hidden spot in the ministry and gave him two choices, kiss or stop drooling every time she was near." Answered Harry.
"How the hell did you know?" Asked Sirius.
"She didn't! Man, you lucky dog," added Remus.
"Let's go have dinner, that cleanup really made me hungry," said Harry.
"Man, you're just like your dad, no matter what we encounter, after, his stomach needed food. I don't know where you put it, anyway, you're right. Let's go, by the way, you never told me how you make Kreacher obey you?" Asked Sirius.
"Kreacher was cursed by your mother when I incinerated the portrait, it made Kreacher regain a bit of his sanity. When I told him I knew of his sacrifice and promised justice for him and for Regulus, Kreacher recalled how to be a decent house-elf. When you refurbished and took all traces of the old home away, and gifted the portrait of Regulus to him, Kreacher decided to respect you back. But Kreacher has the ingrained idea that he is to serve a dark lord. Right now I think Kreacher thinks he has found her." Added Harry.
"Really, who is according to Kreacher, the next dark lady?" Asked Remus.
"Hermione," answered Harry.
"Damn!" said Sirius.
"Of course, I don't want to tell him, that Hermione hates dark lords and ladies if it makes Kreacher happy. I agree, Hermione is one scary lady, and that is that," said Harry, and when they reached Grimmauld Kreacher had a great dinner ready to celebrate their victory.
Meanwhile,
Albus Dumbledore figured out why his magic was shifting. The Phoenix was gone, but Arianna visited him in dreams and told him that the Master of Death had returned, and the first thing he did was negate the power of the Hallows. He could no longer call Fawkes because the binding was done with the elder wand, and the wand no longer recognized him. The hallows would only obey the Master and if he tried to raise his wand against the Master of the hallows, it would be his demise.
The guardian of the Gate noticed how his warning fell on deaf ears. He nodded to Arianna's soul and noticed how the time streams had cleared perfectly, still, there were other timelines that needed adjusting, but at the moment he was grateful for the probabilities of this version of the universe.
