Their first concern was to find out where they even were. They were mostly kept in their room, so they had no idea what hospital they were in. Tightly gripping eachother's hand, they walked trough the dark halls of the hospital and safely got out, unnoticed. Once at the entrance, they turned around to see the sign and gasped.
"Just like that doctor promised...", said Wakko. "What?", asked Lilo. "You remember that doctor that came into your room when I wanted to do a brain magnet?", asked Wakko, "Well, she told me we should be here the next time". "Then how did we even end up here?", asked Lilo. "I don't know...", said Wakko. For a while, they just stared at eachother, feeling dreadful.
"Come on", said Wakko grabbing her hand and they started running, not knowing where to go. The only thing on their minds was that they had to get out of there and go home. They felt like running from someone, even though no one was after them. But there surely was a problem with them being brought to the hospital.
"Ow! Slow down a little, will you?", said Lilo. Wakko did so, and they continiued walking, their hands still tied together. All the way, Lilo felt pretty perplexed because of everything. The street just kept going, and the lot was emerging in the distance, but it just seemed like it was out of reach.
"I...I need to cry...", said Lilo. So they sat down next to a building and Wakko hugged her as she broke down. "It's ok...", said Wakko soothingly, "Is it because of the nightmare?". "It's because of everything", she said. "I know, I know", he said, stroking her hair. "Can we stay here?", she asked. "But what if someone finds us?". "Oh...".
"Why don't we hide somewhere then?", asked Wakko. "Ok", Lilo agreed. So they got up and went to a blind alley. "I'm scared to sleep", said Lilo once they sat down again. "That's ok", said Wakko, "But don't think staying awake will last long". Sure enough, sleep crept up to their eyes and they layed down, hugging.
Little did they know someone would still find them.
Nani woke up in the middle of the night and heard the telephone ringing. She sprinted to the kitchen and picked it up. "Hello...?" "Good morning, Miss Pelekai. This is the experimental orphanage your sister was supposed to be sent to", said a lady on the other side. Nani frowned, "You mean, she wasn't?". "We're sorry, no", said the lady, "But we found her".
Lilo opened her eyes and found she was in a room. A strange one. It was big and had a lot of beds. With a lot of...other children? Was she back to the orphanage? Well, surely she was, but what section? She turned her head on one side and saw Wakko on another bed. How did they end up here? Only last night they were sleeping in that alley. But then...
At that moment, a lady entered, "Good morning, kids! Time to wake up!". Lilo and Wakko couldn't do anything but follow what everyone else was doing. They went downstairs to the kitchen to have breakfast. Soon though, they were called. "I found you there last night", said the lady.
Their jaws literaly dropped. How could that happen? What was going to happen now? "Please don't tell us you called someone", said Wakko. "I called her sister", said the lady. "Wait, what?", Lilo was confused. "You were supposed to be here this whole time", said the lady.
Lilo stared at her in shock. Sure, this place was so different from that bad behaved children section. But that this was the place she had to go to? Why didn't they look for her then? "But since it's almost been a month already", the lady continiued and they gasped, "You can go home, or wherever you were planning to go".
The two headed out of the building with smiles on their faces. However, they dropped when they saw the building was in the same alley they slept in the previous night. Tighting their hands again, they continiued their fateful journey. Because, they were practicly on a double target.
"Hey Lilo", said Wakko at one moment, "How...how are we going to handle this?". "That's easy", said Lilo, "They won't yell at us or anything. They have already forgiven us, you'll see". "I'm still a little...stressed about all this", said Wakko. "Me too", said Lilo, "But let's not be. Belive me, it'll be ok. You still think there will be something big going on?".
"There already is", said Wakko, "And that's the point. Everyone's going to cheer for the three of us now and...I don't even want to imagine what could happen now". Lilo sighed, "I know. I guess they're just waiting for me to go home". "Home?", asked Wakko, "Why?". "I had to in the first place", she said, "Yeah, I wish I could stay".
Finaly. They were standing in front of that water tower Wakko called home. "You ready to do this?", asked Lilo, looking at him. Wakko stared back, that long stare that seemed like he was looking trough her into the distance. He wasn't sure. Still, he wanted to try. They were his siblings after all. Eventualy, he nodded and they started climbing up the ladder.
Once there, they knocked on the door. It was still morning, so there was no doubt they were home. Sure enough, both of them opened. "Wakko!", the oldest exclaimed. "Lilo!", said Dot, "Finaly!". And the four of them hugged, Lilo and Wakko suddenly breaking down.
"Hey, it's alright now, don't worry you two", said Dot. "Come on guys, we have enough money now, should be thankful, what do you think?", asked the oldest. The two let go of the hug and looked at them. "Is...is there going to be a...", Wakko couldn't finish. Just the tought of it terrified him.
"He wanted to ask if there will be reporters", Lilo finished for him. "Reporters?", asked Dot, "No, don't worry. There's already an article in the newspaper, and we asked them not to interview you, for safety". Wakko stared at his siblings in disbelief. Then he remembered what Dot had just said and hugged them again, "Thank you...".
"So, where have you been?", asked Dot. And just at that moment, they heard a yell from under the tower, "YOU!".
