Chapter Fourteen: In which we split up to stop EVIL twins! (why are twins often times depicted as evil!? They can be nice too you know!)

I was only half asleep as Zane set the bomb that would kill the baby Vermillions. Then again maybe I should be fully awake since I was standing guard for him. Skylor had claimed it would be better if someone that was the crazy time travelers went to rescue my parents, leading to the actual ninja splitting up into three teams of two while the entirety of the Alliance went to the hideout where the evil twins are holding their prisoners. A loud sneeze tore from me suddenly, nearly making me topple over. I quickly sat down as I rubbed the bridge of my nose. Feeling tired, pounding headache, and constant sneezing... cold season anyone? A cold hand suddenly landed on my shoulder. "Kai? Are you alright?"

'I think I'm sick.' I half-heartedly signed back, blinking sleep out of my eyes.

Zane hummed at that, before turning his attention to the detonator in his hand. "We still have a few minutes before we're supposed to blow this popsicle stand. Rest for a minute, I'll stand guard."

'Thanks Zane.' I slid my eyes shut, hoping that nothing went too horribly wrong while I rested...

I was standing near a grave, rain pouring down all around me. There were soo many people around, whispering and crying, that I barely noticed the cold. I clenched my fists as my own tears streamed down my face, tears that surged down faster as the voices reached my ears…

"We're from the future..."

"I... died?! How!?" Flashes of images of a dark alleyway, the stench of blood filling the air as I crouched low over a limp, bloody body, a silent scream tearing from my lips. Only the matted blonde hair that stuck out from underneath a green gi mask hinted at who it was...

"That was the main reason for us to go back in time. To stop you from dying."

A gasp tore from me as I snapped my eyes open, heart pounding as thousands of images flickered across my mind's eye. Startled, Zane turned to face me, concern flashing in his eyes, "Kai? You alright there?"

"I remember...everything now." I doubled over as another coughing fit slammed into me, silently cursing that I had to catch a cold today of all days.

Zane wrapped his arms around me, a soft hum escaping him. "I see. We need to get moving if we want to make it to the rendezvous point on time."

I scrambled to my feet at that, wincing as my head swam from the sudden movement. "Right. Let's get going." I pressed a hand over my mouth to prevent myself from hacking up my lungs as I started coughing again.

"We really need to get that cough looked at." Zane commented as he grasped my arm, helping me balance.

I merely nodded in agreement, feeling too woozy to bother with signing at that particular moment. Hopefully the others wouldn't mind me being completely out of it for the rest of the day. I really need to sleep this dumb cold off.

"Kai! Look! Our parents are back!" Nya tackled hugged me the second Zane and I arrived at the school. Apparently the two of us were the last ones to arrive.

I glanced over at them with tired eyes, lifting a hand up to wave hello. "Nice to see you again... ma tired." I then proceeded to collapse on top of my sister, ignoring the coarse cough that tore from my lungs. I fell asleep to the gentle rumble of Zane's voice explaining that I had a rather nasty head cold.

"He needs lots of rest."

I came too to find a familiar ceiling right above me. Grunting slightly, I rolled over, falling back to sleep. Sleep was the best medicine that I could use right now. The next time I awoke, it was to the sounds of arguments filling the air. Groaning, I rolled over onto my feet, blinking sleep from my eyes. "Why can't no one let anyone sleep around here?" I thought to myself in frustration, even as I coughed loudly again, before standing up and walking out the door to find the cause of this dispute.

Upon entering the teacher's lounge room, I found that the dispute was that someone ate Jay's pudding cup again. A snort escaped me as I realized that, as much as we have changed things, something never change. Walking across the room, I pulled open the fridge, carefully searching it for any sign of Jay's precious pudding cup. Truth be told, it didn't take me too long before I found it behind Cole's cake. "It's right here Jay." I dropped the pudding cup into his flailing hand even as another coughing fit claimed me.

"Oh... sorry guys." Jay grasped the pudding in his hand, looking highly embarrassed that I found it in the fridge still. "You best get back to bed, Drake. That cough sounds terrible."

"Plannin' on it." I stumbled out of the room, too tired to really care who sees me moving drunkenly across the room.

Once I made it back to my bedroom, I collapsed once again onto my bed, eyes sliding shut.

I cracked my eyes open to find Zane checking my temperature. "Hmm, how does it look?" Another cough tore from me, though nowhere near as hard as its been.

"Good. Great even. Your fever broke. You also haven't been sniffling for the past hour. In my personal opinion, you are in the clear." Zane reached down to squeeze my hand, a smile crossing his features to let me know that he was relieved that I was getting better.

"Finally. I hate being sick." I doubled over as I coughed again, feeling a stab of frustration at that.

A/N: Hmm... that looks good to me. Also, I have a stubborn head cold...and its me which means main character gets to be sick! Yay! Um... yeah would have updated months ago if it weren't for a little something called writer's block. Next chapter will be Kai officially reuniting with his parents, locking up the time twins... and a conversation that is going to be fun to write about.

JoyoftheStorm: You're right. Zane and Pixal did pick a good time to push that conversation. Also, since Kai was outed as being Kai, they're openly calling him Kai. Of course, old habits die hard so a lot of them will still call him Drake.

phetiamwantip: Hmm, I think its going fairly well. I mean, you have to wait until next chapter to learn if the time twins have been captured or not, since Kai was sick in this chapter and he doesn't know. I'm glad that you are enjoying this story.
