Chapter 75: The Epilogue

The First Official day of the summer holidays felt so lonely. Maud, Enid and everyone else had already shot off back home. But, Mildred? She was left biding her time till they left for the Hardbroom Home of Horrors. On This Particular Monday Afternoon, Mildred Found herself reflecting on the past year. No matter what she tried to think of, it always came back to Hecate. Head girl trials? Hecate was proud. Julie Hubble? Hecate almost died. Her last year? Also Hecate's last year as Deputy. No matter what, It lead back to her.

So, Mildred went for a walk. And where did the little witch end up? Outside the Potions lab. Maybe the universe was trying to send her a message. 'Talk to Hecate'. She thought. They hadn't actually had a full conversion since it all happened. Mildred felt foolish and guilty for all that transpired. Those feelings stirred inside her, only making her angry for her ignorance.

Without letting her brain think one more thought, she burst into the room, startling Hecate from her work on her desk. She was about to reprimand her when Mildred spoke. "I'm sorry.. I shouldn't of run off with her alone." Mildred burst out. "If i hadn't of done that, You wouldn't of been hurt." Mildred could feel the sting of tears already.

"Mildred.." Hecate's fight had left her with that one breath of her name. "Why did you...?" She asked, her eyes boring into her soul.

"Miss Bat." Mildred Suddenly said.

"Miss Bat..?" Hecate suddenly looked very confused.

"Miss Bat told us that we Covens are strongest Together. So.. By splitting them up.." Mildred tried to explain.

"You made them weaker." Hecate said. "You shouldn't of gone alone.."

"I know.. And I'm sorry. I really am." Mildred moved closer to Hecate, and for once Hecate was socially tuned, She opened her arms, allowing the girl into them.

"Mildred. What you did was reckless..." Hecate sighed. "However.." There was always a But with this woman! "Everything turned out well.."

Mildred moved back slightly so she could look straight up at Hecate, her arms still clinging to her for dear life. "That almost sounds like you forgive me.." Mildred Whispered.

"There's nothing to forgive." Hecate told her plain and simply. "I do have a question for you, Mildred." Oh no.. "What did Jul- Your Mother have to say?"

Mildred shrugged slightly. "She Forgives me for giving her magic.. She's sorry for ditching me and hurting people.. And.." Mildred wanted to tell her that her mother had all but signed the parental rights over to Hecate. "That was it." But she didn't.. It was all too knew for her.

"I see. Well, Miss Bat and Mr Rowan-Webb will be leaving in a moment. Will you be joining me to say farewell?" Mildred nodded and walked along with her out into the courtyard.

Mildred ran off ahead when she saw Miss Bat and Mr Rowan-Webb outside. "Tadpole!" He yelled, opening his arms so she could hug him.

"Mr Rowan-Webb!" Mildred hugged him tightly. "I'll miss you."

"Oh, Don't you worry, Tadpole." He let her go, smiling down on her. "We'll see each other again, that much I can promise you." There was a comfort behind it.

She moved on to give Miss Bat a hug. "I'll miss you too, Miss Bat."

Miss Bat chuckled. "And I you, Mildred. We won't be strangers, Cackles has been my home for so very long.." Mildred took a step back as Hecate Joined her. "You take good care of her, Joy." It was rare for anyone to call Hecate that, it was like a secret term of endearment.

"Of course, Gwen." Hecate placed a hand on Mildred's shoulder as she spoke.. It was also rare for Hecate to call the other teachers, Bar from Miss Cackle and Pippa, By there first names too.

Soon, Miss Bat and Mr Rowan-Webb would be off to their new home. Hecate, Pippa and Mildred would be off to Hecate's only home, only to return to a new home here on cackles ground in four weeks.. There was a Lot of home moving going on.

Mildred didn't know what to expect from her summer, she didn't know what to expect when she returned to Cackles either. But she knew one thing for sure, everything was on track for the best year yet.
