The Principality of Zeon forces a space colony out of orbit in an attempt to destroy Jaburo, the Federation Forces headquarters. Though the colony drop misses its target, it hits Sydney, Australia and drastically alters Earth's climate.

This act pushes the Atlantic Federation further into the control of Blue Cosmos and their Masters, LOGOS, while many other nations start to support the Federation in other ways without directly intervening.

PLANT as well as unaffiliated Colonies protect the blatant slaughter of several billion lives. Their cries go unheeded and ignored.

Ten year-old Lucrezia is handpicked by Treize to take part in the Specials' first ever assignment: to suppress a revolt in Mogadishu. Along with her are Zechs and three other cadets who, like her, were at the top of their class. The mission is a success with zero casualties on both ends.

Kira Hibiki and Cagalli Hibiki are born in Mendel. However, as death toll caused by S2 influenza continued to rise, anti-Coordinator riots erupted across the world, and Mendel was attacked by an armed group calling themselves Blue Cosmos.

Having learned of the attack beforehand, Ulen Hibiki's wife Via Hibiki entrusted her children to the family of her sister, Caridad Yamato.

The Principality of Zeon forms an Earth Attack Force, commanded by Garma Zabi. The following month, the Earth Attack Force carries out a series of drop operations and captures most of Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America.
