A week later after the conjuring, Luz was currently doing maintenance on her weapons such as sharpening blades or cleaning the gun barrel so there are no jams. It may be hard work, but it was important.
"Watcha doing?" King asked, watching on the couch.
"Cleaning my weapons." Luz said, not even looking at him. "You have to do this or they'll get rusty and dull."
"Looks boring." King said, sitting next to Luz.
"It may look boring to you but it's still important. Besides, I kind of like doing it." Luz said, finished cleaning the double barrel of her newest gun. "Plus, it's impressive when you see how fast a person can put these back together when they need to."
"DING DONG DING!" Hooty shouted as he opened up the door.
"What is it Hooty? I'm busy?" Luz asked, not effected or scared.
"Someone's dropped off a package! Hoot!" Hooty said as King got up and walked to the door, grabbing a covered basket to drag in.
"A basket?" Luz asked, putting her tools down.
"Maybe it's an offering?" King suggested.
"To who?" Luz asked, grabbing her newest gun and putting it in her jacket before walking to the basket.
"Maybe to me! I am the king of demons!" King said with a smile, puffing his chest.
"Sure." Luz said with sarcasm, grabbing the basket and bringing it to the kitchen. "Eda, someone delivered something!"
"Hmm? Must be an offering." Eda said with a growing smile.
"An offering, really? A convict with fans?" Luz asked with a raised brow.
"Why not? It's not that crazy." Eda said, crossing her arms.
"Yes it is. Now, let's open it and see." Luz said, looking at the basket.
Luz grabbed the small cover and pulled it down, revealing a baby face with gray skin and a pointed head of hair on its head.
"………Congratulations, Eda. You're a mother." Luz quipped.
"I do not consent." Eda said quickly.
"Why? You said it was an offering. Maybe someone thought their child would be blessed it they were raised by you." Luz said with a smirk. "The most powerful witch in the demon realm."
Eda scoffed.
"And people say I'm crazy." She said, rolling her eyes.
"I can take it off your hands." King said, pulling out a bib and licked his lips.
"King, if you try to eat that baby, I will shoot you." Luz said with a small glare.
"Weh?!" King said, scampering back quickly.
"She's right, King. Eating a baby is crossing the line and SO 1600s, we've evolved from that." Eda said before reaching into the basket and pulling out a note. "Look, there's a note too."
Luz took the note from Eda and began reading it aloud.
"This is my baby, please take care of them until my return. Yi yi, you will be rewarded for you service, signed the Bat Queen." Luz read before Eda looked shocked.
"Bat Queen? THE Bat Queen!?" Eda said before reaching into the basket, pulling out a few snails! "We got ourselves a rich baby here!"
"Uh, who's the Bat Queen?" Luz asked, putting the note down.
"The richest demon in the demon realm! You've to m good with her and you can be set for life!" Eda said with a smile.
"Okay?" Luz said before looking at the sleeping baby. "So all we need to do is watch this baby for a few hours and get a lot of money?"
"Yep but you won't be doing it. I need to return some books to the library and you're the perfect person to do it." Eda said to Luz.
"What? Why me?" Luz asked her.
"Caused King isn't strong enough to carry them and I'm a wanted criminal." Eda said, pointing to herself.
'Plus you won't be getting a single snail of my money.' Eda thought.
Luz groaned a bit as Eda made a large stack of books appear in her arms, making her catch them.
"Ugh at least tell me how far the library is from here." Luz said, barely looking past the books.
"Not far. Just down town." Eda said, pointing to the door.
"Thanks." Luz said, with an eye roll.
Luz turned and left the kitchen as Eda checked on the the baby, which suddenly began screaming like a rapid banshee! It was so loud that Luz felt the house shaking like an earthquake! Luz had a bit of a smile hearing that, despite the pain it was bringing to her ears.
"Bye Eda!" Luz said, quickly walking to the door and kicked it open. "Have fun!"
She had a smile the entire way to the library. It wasn't hard to know just what Eda was thinking sending Luz on the errand and thought the screaming baby was nothing but sweet, karmatic justice.
'Cut me out, you pay the price.' Luz thought as she reached the library, still somewhat hearing the baby bat's screaming. 'Man does that kid have lungs.'
Entering the library, Luz looked around and was amazed by all of the books. Never seeing a library such as this before. It could make a great Purge hideout/fortress.
'No! Stop that! Get that out of your head, no more Purges!' Luz thought, shaking her head!
She was so busy pushing away bad thoughts and regretful memories, she didn't feel the books levitating out of her hands and onto the front desk of the library. Luz finished shaking her head as she looked at her empty hands in surprise.
'I will never understand magic.' Luz thought.
"Hmmm, judging by these stains, these are from Eda aren't they?" The librarian asked.
"Yeah, sorry about that. Couldn't clean them before returning them." Luz said to him.
"Ugh, it's fine. We have a way of cleaning them. I'll just add it to her library fines." The librarian said.
"That doesn't surprise me." Luz replied, shaking her head.
Luz decided to explore the library a bit as he wrote it in a long list, Eda's fines list that was an arm length long.
'Eda probably going to spend that babysitting money in this.' Luz thought before shaking her head. 'Oh, who am I kidding, she won't.'
During her time looking around, Luz saw many strange yet things about this demon realm library. The organization system was actually alive, books were flying around on their own, an crystal balls could be used as televisions AND computers!
"The more I learn, the more I see how the realms are more similar than they appear." Luz said to herself before coming along a children's section.
Along with a voice that sounds... very familiar. Following the voice, Luz saw that a familiar witch was reading to the young demons and witches inside.
'Amity?' Luz thought, looking a bit closer to see the exact setting. 'Is she... reading to kids?'
Watching from the corner, Luz could confirm that it was Amity reading to the children and having a great time while doing so.
'Holy fuck, can this girl not be so fucking bi-polar?' Luz thought, shaking her head. 'Is she nice or not!?'
At one moment, Amity is suspicious and untrusting or her and the next, Amity is a big sister figure to dozens of demon/witch children!
'There's something about her that both confuses... and draws me in.' Luz thought, continuing to watch Amity as she finished the story and getting cheers from the children around her.
"Alright, that's the end of story time for today." Amity said with a smile.
Amity stood up and the children hugged her legs, making her giggle.
"Thank you, Ms. Amity." The children said.
"I'll see you all tomorrow." Amity said.
The children ran out of the kids area as Amity watched them leave, still smiling before Luz made herself known from around the corner.
"I have to say, you'll make a good mother someday." Luz said, making Amity surprised.
"Luz?" Amity asked in confusion. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing." Luz said, crossing my bed arms. "Although, I'm not sure if which version of Amity I am talking to."
Amity rolled her eyes at this but could understand, she was a bit……..mixed when they first met and didn't give off a clearer personality to Luz considering what happened at the Covention.
"I apologize for that if I confused you. I was just VERY surprised that day." Amity said, putting the book she read down. "What are you doing here anyway? I've never seen you around here before."
"I just finished returning some books for a friend and I thought I'd look around." Luz said before pointing to Amity. "Then I saw you and figured I'd see what you're doing."
"Okay, well now you know. I work her for extra credit and I enjoy reading to the kids. Now let me ask you something... what the hell did you do a few days ago? How did you animate a house on Conjuring Night?" Amity asked.
"Huh?" Luz asked in confusion.
"The moonlight conjuring. It still all over Penstagram." Amity said, bringing out her scroll to show Luz.
Low and behold, there were several posted about what happened as Luz, Gus, and Willow walked through town with Hooty's giant chicken legs!
"I mean, it's all anyone has talked about!" Amity said, putting her scroll away. "And none the less, you did that with two weak wit-"
Luz pulled out her new revolver and pointed it at Amity.
"Do NOT call them that!" Luz said, suddenly glaring at Amity.
Amity froze in fear at the gun, not knowing what it is but the amount of malice in Luz's eyes and the confidence she had holding it scared her into know just enough! Seeing her fear, Luz gasped before she quickly pulled her gun away.
'I forgot to leave this at home! Damnit!' Luz thought.
"I-I'm sorry, I just….don't like the way you talk about my friends." Luz said to her, looking away. "I should go."
Luz turned around and began to walk away, baring a small look of shame.
'I've never really had real friends before but I didn't think I would react like that. Even when I'm protecting someone, I'm too trigger happy.' Luz thought.
"W-Wait! Don't go!" Amity said, quickly grabbing Luz's arm." Please, I don't want you to."
"Y-y-you don't?" Luz asked, surprised by this.
"No, I don't. Look, I'm sorry for that and I'll try to keep from saying it again. But I do want to know you." Amity said as Luz turned to her.
"Why?" Luz asked.
The idea of someone wanting to know about Luz, it was such a foreign concept.
"I…..I don't know but I just feel like this is right. Like……you've been without a real friend for so long and I can relate to that." Amity said, looking down. "I haven't really had a real friend in a long time either."
Luz looked away, she didn't have friends before coming to this realm. At least none that she knew one night a year and behind her mask.
"Amity, do you really want to be my friend? I've killed people, a lot of people." Luz said, warning her.
This didn't shock Amity as much as it should've, seeing what Luz did to that demon from before could've been an example. But still…..
"You…..had good reason to, right? Like at the Covention?" Amity asked her.
"…….I thought I did for a long time but coming here, it made me realize that all my reasons in my world were petty and childish." Luz said, clenching her hands in shame. "I loved the feeling, I loved making others feel the pain they put me through. And now I feel so ashamed to even think back on it."
"I guess……that's another thing we have in common." Amity said, looking down in shame herself. "I…..I made a choice that hurt my best friend when we are younger and ever since, I've held this smug persona like I'm mocking her and everyone weaker around me."
"Guess we're two peas in a pod." Luz said, giving a bitter chuckle.
"What are peas?" Amity asked, confused.
"A human vegetable." Luz quickly explain.
"Awww, whose your friend, Mittens?" A voice asked.
