Amity's face became red and she let out a squeak.
"Mittens?" Luz asked, turning towards the entrance of the children's section.
She saw two people, with dark green hair, golden eyes, and light blue uniforms.
'Twins?' Luz thought as the twins walked closer to them.
"We came here to give you your lunch but instead, we find you with a brand new friend." The boy said, holding up a pink bunny lunch bag.
"Great, got my lunch, you can leave now." Amity said.
"What? You're not going to introduce us?" The girl asked.
"Luz, Edric and Emira. Edric and Emira, Luz." Amity quickly introduced as she took her lunch. "Now you can leave."
"Mittens, that's no way to introduce your big siblings." Edric said, turning to smile at Luz. "Sorry about that, Mittens-"
"Stop calling me that in public!" Amity said, blushing again.
"Wow, someone is in a bad mood today." Emira said, holding her hands up. "Come on, relax-"
"I think she's annoyed that people that are supposed to be family are being a little rude to her." Luz said, getting between them.
"Whoa! Where did that come from?!" Edric asked in shock, taking a step back.
"Yikes, seems like she's just as uptight as Mittens." Emira said to her brother.
"Her name is Amity, not Mittens." Luz said firmly. "Now that you gave her her lunch and introduced yourselves, get out."
"Hey now, there's no need to-" Edric was cut off as Luz grabbed his shirt and pulled him close.
"I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in this room that's actually KILLED a man before... don't make me mad." Luz said, glaring at Edric.
Emira and Edric shivered from this, the latter quickly backing away from Luz upon seeing her in a new light of fear.
"Now, I don't know how you guys are around Amity and your house, you may be good siblings that just take jokes too far... but if I hear about you two doing something that will hurt her, I will not hesitate to hurt you." Luz said, reaching into her hoodie and showing her gun a bit. "Now get out."
Hearing this and feeling a pressure coming from Luz, the twins slowly backed away before running away as fast as they could.
"Well, they're dealt with." Luz said, putting her gun fully back in.
"Yeah….." Amity said, in awe of how fast her siblings were dealt with. "Can you teach me how to do that?"
"No." Luz said, shaking her head. "No I can't."
"Why?" Amity asked .
"Because that version of me is a monster." Luz said.
"…..Not to me." Amity said, looking straight into Luz's eyes.
"Well, she is to me." Luz said, referring to her Purge side as its own person. "I wasn't lying when I said I was the only one in the room that has killed someone... I've killed a lot of people, not because they were evil, or because they did something wrong... I did it because I wanted to."
"I know but-" Amity was cut off.
"No, Amity. You don't. I can't help but envy this realm because it has NOTHING like the Purge in Earth." Luz said, turning around as her hair covered her eyes. "No rules, no restrictions, you can do whatever you want and just go your merry way the next day. You don't even notice the change until you truly think about what you've done and why you've done it."
Luz looked at her hands as a flash made them appear to be covered in blood, the blood of countless people she killed for her own "justifications."
"I…….I can never look in a mirror and see myself as a good person. All I see……is a monster." Luz said, silently crying. "The worst part is I loved it. I loved the feeling of hurting people, of killing them, bathing in their blood... I... I'm a horrible person."
Amity walked up and put her hands in Luz's hands, snapping her out of it.
"I don't think a horrible person would feel regret." Amity said.
Luz looked up to Amity, showing her crying face as the Blight girl just smiled softly at her.
"If you really were "still" a monster, you wouldn't be feeling guilty about what you did and want to be better. No matter how impossible it sounds." Amity said.
"Too bad I don't believe that." Luz said, shutting her eyes. "I've killed, just for the hell of it. I've ruined families, I've killed people that probably didn't deserve it."
"I understand but it's okay, you're still trying to be a good person and find a way to redeem yourself. Not many people would even want that after all you've told me." Amity said to her.
"You say that but I don't think I even deserve redemption or forgiveness." Luz said, crying even more.
"I refuse to believe that." Amity said quickly.
She surprised Luz with a hugging her tightly, making the human gasp.
"I……I think the same about myself sometimes but if you can find it in yourself to see what you did as monstrous and try to be better, then you do deserve forgiveness and redemption." Amity said to her, crying a bit herself.
'And maybe…..me too.' Amity thought.
Luz's arms shook a little before she hugged her back. It made Luz remember that whenever her mother hugged her, it was full of nothing but love and care for her.
'She's really……not afraid of me.' Luz thought.
"Thank you." Luz said softly.
"You don't need to thank me." Amity said, letting Luz cry into her shoulder.
They stayed this way for another minute before they broke apart, the human girl wiping her tears away.
"Sorry about that, I don't usually just let out my emotions on someone like that." Luz said.
"I can understand that, my mom wants me to hold my emotions in." Amity said, rolling her eyes. "Says it's unbecoming of a Blight to cry."
"Unbecoming? But everyone cried, there's nothing wrong with it." Luz said.
"I know but for my mom, she sees it as a sign of weakness. That's one of the only things she really cares about, strength and profit." Amity said, turning and placing her lunch bag on a table.
"Maybe I should give her a reason to cry." Luz mumbled.
Even if Luz hated the monster inside of her, she would still let her out if she had a good enough reason.
"Well, I don't think I need you to do that, maybe another time, but not right now." Amity said.
"I'll hold you to that." Luz said.
"So, since you're still here, would you like a tour? I do work here part time." Amity said.
"Sure, I was curious about this place anyway." Luz said with a smile.
For the next couple of hours, Amity had shown Luz around the library. Including places only an employee could get into thanks to a special ID card.
"Hey, what's this thing called the Wailing Star? I keep seeing posters for it." Luz said, gesturing to a certain poster.
"The Wailing Star is a rare meteorite that flies over the Isles once every few years. It's wailing scream as magical properties that affects the books in the library. It's also where we close the library early." Amity said.
"Huh...Okay." Luz said before taking and breath and nodding, smiling a bit. "Yep... I need to see what that does."
"See it? Sorry but nobody is in the library after it closes." Amity said.
"Aren't you a little curious to what the star's effects really are? Why not see it?" Luz asked, feeling mischievous.
Yeah, but... I-"
Amity was cut off when she heard her twin older siblings discussing something. Making her pull Luz to a corner where they can hear but not be seen by the twins.
"So are we good for tonight? You got the spell?" Emira asked him.
"Yeah, I got it. And we don't have to worry, nobody is gonna find out about us. We get in, find mitten's diary, and teach her a little lesson." Edric said.
Amity growled in anger at this, before Luz put a hand over her mouth.
"Down girl." Luz whispered, keeping her quiet. "I get you don't like the sound of that and I don't either but I have a plan, you said you work here?"
Amity nodded, still having her mouth covered.
"Well, you're about to get a little overtime." Luz whispered, smirking a bit as Amity looked very curious.
