The next day Dave and Hunter had set the younger four kids with a movie in the living room before they sat down with the oldest three in the office.
"Are we in trouble?" Callie asked
"Is there some reason you think you would be?" Dave asked
"No," Callie said.
"You're not in trouble," Hunter said with a smile.
"There is just something that we need to tell you about," Dave said.
The three young ladies looked up at their parents waiting for more.
"You all know I have been married before," Dave said.
Rosie smirked, "which time?"
Hayley and Callie giggled.
"Rosie be nice," Hunter said shaking his head trying not to smirk himself.
"Funny, my second wife, Hayden, well. I didn't know but when we were together she got pregnant and she had the child after we were already divorced," Dave said.
"You have another kid?" Hayley asked
"Yes, well, she isn't a kid anymore, she is thirty but yes she is biologically my daughter, her name is Joy," Dave said.
"Where does she live?" Callie asked
"California," Dave said. "She is married and has a son."
"How old is her son?" Hayley asked
"Three," Dave said. "His name is Kai."
"Does she know about all of us?" Hayley asked
"Of course," Dave said.
"How long have you known?" Rosie asked.
"Found out yesterday," Dave said.
Rosie nodded a little.
"I know this is a lot of information, right now dad and I are planning a trip to go out there and get to know her, and in the near future you will also get to meet her," Hunter said.
Hayley and Callie nodded.
"Why can't we go when you two go?" Rosie asked.
"Bringing all of you at once when I don't even really know her would be too much," Dave said.
"Okay well, why can't you just bring the three of us?" Rosie asked
"Papa and I will be going first, and won't be much longer before the rest of you get to meet them I'm sure," Dave said.
"It's not fair," Rosie said. "She is my sister as much as she is your daughter."
"Yes, she is. But this is the way that we are doing this," Dave said.
"Anything else you need to tell us?" Rosie asked
"No," Dave said.
Rosie got up and mumbled "this is bullshit before she left the office and went to her room.
Hunter looked at Hayley and Callie, "do you have any other questions?"
"No," they both said.
"Let's not tell your little sisters yet," Hunter said.
They both nodded.
"You can go," Hunter said.
The two of them left the office closing the door behind them.
"Do you want me to go talk to Rosie?" Hunter asked.
"Nope, I should," Dave said.
"You sure?" Hunter asked.
"Yes," Dave said. He got up and went upstairs and knocked on Rosie's door.
"What?" She asked
Dave went in, "I understand you are upset and think this isn't fair, but it wouldn't be fair to bring only a few of you."
"She is my sister," Rosie said.
"I know, I'm not saying she isn't," Dave said.
"She is not theirs," Rosie said.
"Okay, no, there will be none of that, are they not your sisters?" Dave asked
"That is not what I mean, but it's not the same and you know it, if Papa found out he had another child they would be their sibling much more than mine," Rosie said.
"Rosie, I'm really surprised to hear you talking like this," Dave said.
"Is Helen my mother in any way?" Rosie asked
Dave sighed, "Rosie, I know it's hard for you, not to get to know your mother. But you know that Joy will not get you any closer to knowing your mother."
"I know that but she is my blood," Rosie said.
"Yes, and you will get to know her, she wants to get to know all of you," Dave said. "But we don't know her, we don't know her husband, Papa and I are going to go first and get to know them before you all. You can think it's unfair, but you will need to accept this is how it's happening."
Rosie nodded a little. "Why didn't you know?"
"Hayden didn't tell me, she ended up marrying someone else and Joy was led to believe he was her biological father. When he was dying he told Joy that he wasn't and Joy went to her mom and asked her and Hayden confirmed everything," Dave said.
"Why didn't Hayden tell you?" Rosie asked.
"I don't know, I will ask her that when I talk to her in the future but right now I'm just going to focus on "getting to know Joy and her family," Dave said.
"Okay," Rosie said.
"And we aren't telling the younger girls anything yet," Dave said.
Rosie nodded.
"And when Papa and I go I expect that you will be very helpful to whoever is here keeping an eye on you all," Dave said.
"I will," Rosie said. "Dad, I didn't mean that I don't think of Papa as my father or my sisters as my sisters I just… have so little biological family."
"I get that," Dave said. "I know you love Papa and your sisters."
"Okay, good," Rosie said
Dave and she hugged and Dave kissed her head. "Love you bambina."
"Love you too, dad," Rosie said.
Dave left her room soon after and went back downstairs to the kitchen.
"Everything handled?" Hunter asked
"Yes," Dave said. "She isn't thrilled but accepting this is how it's being done."
Hunter nodded, "well we are raising our girls to have their own opinions and use their voices."
"Yes, we are," Dave said with a smile.
"How do you feel now that you have had more time to think about all this?" Hunter asked.
"Still surprised, and angry but just happy that I can at least get to know her and her family," Dave said.
Hunter smiled and nodded, "you know if you want to tell me what you would say to Hayden, if you need to get it off your chest I can listen."
"Appreciate the offer but no," Dave said.
Hunter nodded, "Okay, well the offer doesn't expire."
Dave smiled and kissed his husband.
Hunter kissed him back before the two of them went to join the younger kids in watching the movie that had been put on.
