It's been a couple days since Amity's panic attack, and since the Blight's returned home, Alador has been in his lab. Amity was curious about what was going on down there, but the twins kept her away, saying that going into his lab when he's working is a very bad idea, because he uses a lot of sharp tools to create self defense weapons and if Amity went in there, there would be a good chance of her getting hurt, and no on in the house wanted the honorary Blight to get hurt. Today though, Amity decided that she wanted to confirm something, something that she's wondered about for a bit. She walked to the living room, or whatever they call it here, because apparently it counts as a living room if the walls breathe.

'This world just gets weirder.' Amity thought.

She found Odalia, drinking tea while reading a book.

"Uh, Mrs. Blight?" Amity said.

Odalia looked and saw Amity. She closed the book and put her teacup on a small table between the two chairs.

"Amity, I've said you don't need to be so formal." Odalia said, "Please, just call me Odalia. Now, what can I do for you, sweetie?"

"Okay, well, I've been wondering, and you don't have to answer if you don't want to." Amity said, "Did... did you have a third child?"

Odalia closed her eyes.

"Amity, I think it's time I tell you the truth." Odalia said, motioning to the chair next to her, "Please, sit."

(If you've lost a child and don't want to read this, I recommend skipping to the next bold text)

Amity walked over and sat down. Odalia carefully put a hand on Amity's shoulder, trying her best to not cause another panic attack. Amity felt Odalia's hand on her shoulder and it felt... nice. It was the opposite of her mother's touch, instead of cold, unwelcoming, and filled her with dread, Odalia's touch felt warm, inviting, and felt like a how a true mother should treat her children, with kindness and love.

"Amity... I wasn't always the person I am today. Just 15 years ago, I was a cruel, mean hearted woman. Hell, Alador and I barely even loved each other, we were more in a marriage for business purposes. I only cared about money and didn't care about who I had to run over in order to get it... then I got pregnant with a third child. I figured that I can handle the two most rowdy boys, what's one more child?"

"Two boys?" Amity asked, "Wait, Emira is Trans?"

"Magic is a wonderful thing, isn't it? Personally, I always kind of knew, as a kid, she would always dress a little bit more feminine than Edric." Odalia said, "Anyway, I got pregnant, and I just figured that it would be the same as the twins, a long, very painful birth... how I wish that was what happened."

Odalia felt her hands shake and closed her eyes.

"Y-y-you don't need to continue if-"

"No... I need to speak about this." Odalia said, "I've held this in for so long that I NEED to speak to someone about it. I was only six months along, we had a room all ready for a baby to come, then I got very ill. I was in a Healer's clinic for almost three weeks... they told me it was just a small stomach illness, no one expected what would happen. I woke up in the middle of the night, screaming in pain. The Healer's rushed in and I was suddenly in surgery. Eight hours... the baby wrapped the umbilical cord around their neck on accident... the baby didn't make it and it was the reason I was sick, the baby was rotting in the womb. I... I never really felt that attached towards people, but... seeing the dead decomposing body of what was going to be my third child... something inside me just broke."

(Okay, the bad part is over now)

Amity grabbed Odalia's hand and didn't let go until Odalia calmed down. Odalia wiped some tears from her eyes.

"I'm okay... I'm okay." Odalia said.

"I'm sorry that I brought it up." Amity said, "I should've known that this would bring some unpleasant memories."

Odalia put a hand on Amity's face.

"Never apologize, talking to you about this is just what I needed." Odalia said, "And while it might've been a horrible thing to experience, but it led to something wonderful."

Amity was curious and Odalia continued.

"I spent the next few weeks here in bed, unable to do anything but just sit and stare at the wall. I thought about everything I've done to that point, and I concluded that life is never a guarantee, I could die tomorrow and what would I have to show for it, other than hatred for those less fortunate than me? What would I have to show for it other than a family that hates me? I swore that day, I would change, I would be a better wife to Alador, I would be a better mother to the twins, I... I would be a person that could one day be okay with dying because I did everything I could to help others."

"And have you achieved that?" Amity asked.

Before Odalia could respond, she felt a pair of hands touch her shoulders. She looked up and saw Alador, with a wide smile on his face. He kissed her cheek and looked at Amity.

"Every day, when I wake up and see her next to me in bed, I can't help but smile, because I get reminded every morning, that I'm married to the most beautiful, caring, and wonderful woman in the entire Demon Realm." Alador said.

Odalia blushed.

"Alador, there's no need-"

"There is a need to say this, Odalia, because I want Amity to know how much I love you." Alador said, "There is no one I'd rather be married to. Anyway, I came up because I wanted to show Amity something."

"Of course, the project." Odalia said, "Amity, Alador and I have been talking and we wanted you to be able to protect yourself. Go with Alador and see your gift."

Amity stood up.

"Okay, mom." Amity said.

Amity froze and covered her mouth, turning red from embarrassment. Amity quickly left the room before either could process what she said, but Odalia felt joy.

"She... she called me mom." Odalia said with a wide smile.

"Yes, she did." Alador said.

"Go show her the gift, dear." Odalia said, "I'm going to go fill some things out."

Alador couldn't help but smile, knowing exactly what Odalia was going to do.
