I'm Sorry, Kurt

Chapter 2: Butterfly Kisses

Noah did what he could to get through the day without breaking down. He tried to stay strong for Lucy, but some days were harder than others. One day, Noah was changing Lucy's diaper and was reminded of Beth. Then he breaks down as Burt walks in with Kurt. Noah cried so hard that he had to sit down, and Kurt finished changing Lucy's diaper.

As Noah calms down, he looks at Burt and says, "She looks so much like Beth. How did Mrs. H get through the day after Finn's dad died?"

Burt glances at Kurt as he says, "I can't speak for Carole, but I can tell you that it does get better, Puck."

Burt takes Lucy into his arms and says, "You have to be strong for Lucy, Puck. Lucy needs you." Soon Lucy starts to cry, and Noah plays Humble and Kind by Tim McGraw on his phone as he sings along.

Noah sighs and says, "Kurt, I want to talk to your dad alone. Could you take Lucy into the living room?" Kurt then nods, saying nothing and glances at Burt.

Noah sighs and says, "I know Kurt wasn't a baby when Elizabeth died, but you still spent six years alone. I have been to her grave a few times since Quinn's funeral. We named Beth after her, well Quinn did. I didn't realize that was her name until after Beth was one. I was the one defacing her grave when I bullied Kurt. Now, I try to keep it clean. People that hate you are defacing it now, and I was helping the groundskeeper for the last month. How did you deal with losing Elizabeth and the crap Kurt went through?"

Burt chuckles and says, "Kurt helped me until he set me up with Carole. Plus, I had the guys at the shop helping me get through the day. Mick told me that you start working at the shop next week. I still have the onesie coveralls Elizabeth made Kurt; she made all his coveralls. What do you want to bet Lucy will be like Jo from the show The Facts of Life?"

Noah shakes his head and says, "God, Mick joked about me being Kurt's stepbrother after he hired me. I hope Lucy is not into cars when she gets older or gets into trouble as I did. Burt, I know I wasn't the greatest friend to Kurt, and I should have said this last month, but I would be proud to call you Dad."

Then they chuckle as Kurt says no repeatedly before Noah says, "Blaine told me that he and Tracy have been teasing Kurt about me turning into you. Tracy even calls me Mr. P and bought me a cap with a P on it."

Noah gets the cap from his closet and says, "I am glad you are working at the shop again, Burt, and I have someone to talk to. I doubt it was easy not having anyone know what you went through for six years. I don't know if I will find anyone as great as Quinn, but I bet Lucy will try to find me, someone."

Noah hands Burt a second cap with an H on it and says, "I bought this on the day I asked Quinn to marry me. I didn't wear it. I thought about wearing it that day, though."

He looks at a picture of Quinn on the wall and says, "She feared that she would die and wrote in five diaries she wanted me to give to Lucy when she is older. She knew you or Kurt might help me raise Lucy, and she labeled them Things that Uncle Kurt and your dad don't know about me. She even put the ages, she thought Lucy would need each diary, and in every one of them, she said, "If you have more questions, ask Uncle Kurt's parents. In her last diary, she told her about Beth. She explained why Beth was Tracy's aunt and not her sister. She also told her about Finn and Elizabeth. Quinn called Elizabeth Nana Beth in every diary and explained why you and Kurt don't have the same last name. I think she hoped I would tell Lucy why we don't have the same last name and why I'm calling you dad if I'm not related to you."

Noah looks down and says, "Jake told me about dad dying last week. He would have told me that day at the cemetery. But he didn't think it was the right time."

Noah clears his throat and says, "Tracy isn't the only little girl into movies with The Hulk in them, and I ordered us both a Hulk costume yesterday. Well, it's green body paint. I couldn't resist, and you better not tell Kurt this. But Quinn made Kurt Lucy's godfather before we knew she was having a girl."

Noah breaks down again and says, "Why did Finn and Quinn have to die? I can't stand this, Burt! I want Quinn here so bad I can't breathe." He then fell to his knees weeping, whispering, "I'm not, Burt." repeatedly until he passed out.

When he woke up, Tracy and Lucy were lying beside him. He soon hears Nancy Abrams say, "I came here to check on Puck. He blocked almost all his friends on Facebook because they talked about him behind his back and said he should have given Lucy up for adoption. Rachel and Blaine have been fighting with the others because of what the others say about Tracy's crush on Puck. One more thing, Beth knows that Puck and Quinn are her parents. Mercedes said something about it on Facebook while defending Puck. She deleted the post after Puck blocked the others and asked me to come here. When she noticed Puck and Kurt unfriended Artie for making a joke about you."

Noah clears his throat and says, "He asked Kurt if his mother had a picture of Mr. H's privates, Mrs. A. What should we have done; ignored it? I blocked the others because they were comparing Quinn to Kurt's mom and making jokes about Beth being named after Kurt's mom. Her full name is Elizabeth Lucy Corcoran, and Quinn named her that! Now! You can tell Artie and the others I am doing fine!"

He glances at Burt before he yells, "I am nothing like Burt, and Quinn is nothing like Kurt's mom! You got it? Yeah, I lost the love of my life and will be a mechanic like Burt! But I am not him, and I am not like my dad! I will raise Lucy alone! If they have anything to say about us! They better say it to my face! I'm not perfect, but I am the only parent Lucy has! Quinn's parents cut off all contact with me after Quinn died, and my mom told me that Quinn's mom blamed me for her death! This past month has been hell, and Artie's comment was the rotten cherry on this shit cake I've been handed! Now, I understand why Burt lost friends after he lost Kurt's mom!" Soon, they hear Lucy cry, and Nancy leaves as Noah goes to get her. Burt soon hears Tell Me I Was Dreaming by Travis Tritt playing as Noah weeps.
