Kings' Landing
Aerion Targaryen
The journey from the Eyrie to Kings' Landing was the longest Aerion had been on Dragonback, it was so long that he ended up falling asleep, luckily he had his riding chains on otherwise he would of most likely fallen, he was awoken by a screech from Gaelithox as Kings' Landing could be seen in the distance, and almost having forgotten he was in the air, he was close to freaking out when he looked down.
They landed outside the cities' walls near to the Dragons' Gate, the dragon pit being too small to hold Gaelithox and Aerion refused to have him be chained up by the Keepers, almost having killed one who tried back at Runestone, they were only there to guard him, not that Gaelithox needed any protection.
He made his way down Gaelithox, the wind brushed against the roped ladder causing it to swing against the dragons' scales, though once Aerion reached the bottom he took in the view of Kings' Landing and smiled, it hadn't felt long since he was last in the capital, and his mind was solely set on Rhaenyra, and how she would react knowing he was here.
Aerion ran his hand across Gaelithox's scaled skin as he always done, preparing himself for having to justify killing a traitor to his family, no doubt the king had already received word of his arrival and is currently readying himself for the court, lords and ladies who wouldn't know hardship if it beat them in the face, yet believe they have the rights to judge a dragon.
He planted himself down onto the grass beside him, laying his head against Gaelithox, speaking to him in the Valyrian tongue "Do you see my dreams?"he asked, knowing he wouldn't receive a reply, though hoped that perhaps their connection let him see into the dragons' mind "I have the same dream every night."he continued "At least I think its' a dream..feels almost real."
"You are in this dream"he looked to the side and Gaelithox was staring right back at him "you battle against another dragon."Aerion smiled, drifting off and telling him all about his dream, it wasn't long until, as expected, the dragon keepers came down from the Dragon pit, there were three of them, wearing the same styled armor as those on dragonstone, though shinier, Kings' Landing has its benefits, Aerion first thought.
He rose from the ground, swiping his hands down his leather breeches"Welcome to Kings' Landing, My Prince."one of them said, holding a long nine-foot pike with a spiked end. "We have not seen this dragon before, though we have heard of its reputation, we will ensure no one comes close."
"He will eat you if you ever use that on him." he nudged his head towards the pike, switching to the common tongue, the two behind him were holding what seemed like a heavy chest, and Aerion walked over to inspect it, opening it up to see heavy chains within "And if I see you have even attempted to put these on him, then I will kill each and everyone of you."
They were silent to him, and shut the chest, nodding his head farewell to Gaelithox before heading towards the Dragons' Gate and into the city, there was a lot of foot traffic when he reached the gate, primarily merchants and farmers with goods to sell in Kings' Landing, and he extended the hood over his head to cover his face, as to not draw attention, though the dragonscales of his riding leathers were a giveaway.
The Guards were checking the people as they came in, though Aerion walked past the lot of them, getting stopped by a knight in black plated armor "Where do you think you are going?" he said, as he wrapped his hand around Aerion's arm, causing him to glare at the man, he instantly ungripped him when he caught sight of Aerion's eyes.
"That is right…don't put your hands on me again." Aerion said, clutching the handle of Goldfyre "You see that a dragon has landed close to the gate and did not think that a man dressed like me was that dragon's rider?"
"I apologize, my prince, had I known it were you then I would never have -" the guard stumbled on his words and Aerion simply walked away, leaving him to think about it himself, he travelled down the Street of Silk which was beaming with life, Merchants sold their wares though it was most famous for its' fine establishments, which were always open for the right price.
He looked up at the Dragon pit to his left, which practically formed a shadow over the street of silk, blocking the shine from the sun reaching the street, it was the largest structure behind the Red Keep, which after quite a few turns and traveling down alleyways, he finally made it to the gates of the grand castle, removing his hood and walking up to the large doors and they opened up for him, leading him into the outer courtyard.
The outer courtyard was primarily used by the kingsguard and the household for Training, there were training dummies set up and racks for weapons of any kind to train with, he spotted two twins training together in the center, each mirroring the others' attacks and defenses, he folded his arms as he watched them.
Aerion turned his head towards the stairs that led to the inner courtyard, and a woman servant walked down the steps and directly towards him, performing a curtsey to him "My Prince, I have been instructed to show you to your bedchambers." Aerion smiled at her, nodding his head as she led him through the inner courtyard and into the Red Keep itself.
She led him up to Maegor's holdfast and not once on their walk to his bedchambers did he spot the King, or Rhaenyra, though he noticed a large crowd heading into the Great Hall, and his suspicions were most likely correct, Viserys was already preparing for him to be summoned.
The chambers were the same ones he had used the last visit to Kings' Landing, and clothes were set out on the bed for him already, he looked to the servant, who curtsied to him again and left the room, he walked towards the bed to view what had been left out for him.
There was a black shirt and a short-sleeved crimson tunic, along with that there was a pair of leather bracers and black trousers with the same-colored boots that cut off just below his knees, he prepared himself for the summon, quickly putting on the clothes, and tying his hair at the back.
While he slipped on the boots there was a heavy knock at the door, and he went towards the door and opened it up, there were three knights of the Kingsguard, he remembered one of them which was the twin he saw in the courtyard, with Ser Harrold Westerling leading him "My Prince, you have been summoned to the Great Hall by His Grace, King Viserys -"
Harrold looked as if he was going to say the Kings full title, so Aerion waved it away "I know, let us get to it then." he said, pushing past them and leading the way to the throne room, the three of them following shortly behind him.
He strutted slowly down the steps of the Great Hall as the entire court looked to him, whispering among each other, of which he heard 'Kinslayer' said among them, though all of them were a blur as he looked at Rhaenyra standing at the bottom of the Iron Throne's steps, a fresh smile on his lips, when he reaches the Iron Throne, he extends Goldfyre from its' sheathe and rests the tip of the blade on the floor, kneeling down and gripping its' hilt with both of his hands.
"My King…Princess Rhaenyra." he said, looking to the both of them "I dedicate my victories over our enemies to the crown, may our house remain strong against all those who dare to challenge us." he glanced quickly towards the queen and a smug look formed on his face.
The King stood inches away from his seat at the top of the steps, Blackfyre in his hand, though Aerion still bit his lip at that, believing only a warrior should be worthy of such a blade, the king gestured for him to rise and he did. "Prince Aerion, I welcome you back into our halls, word has reached us of your bravery and might on the battlefield." he nodded to Lord Lyonel Strong, the Kings' Hand, and he stepped forward.
"You have been called to Kings' Landing because accusations of Kinslaying have been brought up to the Crown, as you know, this is an act against the faith, the highest of evils, and we must get the entire truth of what happened." he spoke up, enough for the entire court to hear.
"Kinslaying? I heard such rumors about it, and I will speak the truth today." he looked directly at Lyonel "It is true, that I ordered the death of my mothers' cousin." he heard the gasps of the court and wanted to smirk right there, turning around and looking to the court "Though I did not do the killing, he was burned alive and then eaten by my dragon, as is my right, he betrayed my family with his treachery."
He turned to face the King once more "Had I need to make the same decision again, it would not be my dragon that did it, it would be me - for the death I gave him was not enough for the treason he committed against me." he then glanced to Rhaenyra who stood on one side of the throne, and then the queen who stood on the other, and he is brought back to visions of his dream, putting the two together, and raised his eyebrow.
"Is there anyone to speak against the words brought to us by Prince Aerion?" Lord Lyonel yelled to the court "If so, make yourself known." no one stood forward to go against Aerion's claim, only mumbles could be heard "Then we will reconvene on the morrow, once the small council has made a decision on this matter."
"Wait! -" someone spoke up among the crowd "I have something to say." Aerion turned his head towards the voice as they came into view, he looked to be young, with brown hair and clean-shaven, Aerion did not recognize them "I am Alwyn, son to Ser Gunthor Royce of Runestone." Aerion raised his brow, he knew nothing of a son from Gunthor.
"You may step forward, Alwyn." Lyonel said, and Aerion's eyes followed him as he stepped forward, and they locked view of one another, as he got closer Aerion started to recognize him, remembering how Gunthor used to bring a little boy to Runestone every now and then, though they never got along.
"My father sent me away shortly before the battle took place, my lords, though I remained and watched from a distance." Alwyn began to speak, and Aerion looked around, specifically at the Queen who had the same smug look on her face that Aerion greeted her with, she must have something to do with this "When the battle was over, he had the prisoners line up outside the castle, Ser Gerold was among them, he gave him no chance to explain himself."
"This is ridiculous." Aerion muttered under his breath, causing the hand to turn his head towards him, along with the rest of the court "You heard me..this is utterly ridiculous, that you would even entertain this charade." he walked closer to the Iron Throne and looked up at Viserys "Surely you would take the word of your nephew, one with the blood of the dragon, over the son of a traitor who would have seen me dead."
"I am not taking any sides, Prince Aerion, I am merely getting to the bottom of these accusations, it is Alywn's time to speak, allow us to listen." the King announced, and Aerion looked to Rhaenyra, not taking his eyes off her as Alwyn continued.
"As I was saying, My'lords, he gave him no chance to explain his actions, and while he gave my father the option to spend his days on the wall,, Ser Gerold was sentenced to death with no such offer made to him." Alwyn continued "I urge you to punish the prince, My King." Alwyn looked directly at Viserys "He killed his own kin when there was another way."
"Do you deny the treacherous acts Prince Aerion has told us about?" Lyonel replied to Alwyn.
"I do not, my'lord, it was well within his rights to recapture Runestone, and I disagree with my fathers' actions, but as a devout follower of the faith, I can not stand by and watch this act be committed without revealing to the king, and to the court, what happened." Aerion scoffed, taking his eyes off Rhaenyra and towards Alwyn.
"Oh, I am sure that is all you were attempting to do." he walked up to Alwyn, and scanned him from head to toe, whispering so none in the court could hear "Are you here on behalf of Arnold? When you return to him, let him know that his days are numbered." and smiled, patting his Alwyn's shoulder.
"If there is nothing more to bring to this gathering, then we will convene on the morrow when the King, along with the small council, has discussed this." Lord Lyonel said, and the court began to leave the Great Hall, though a few remained to talk amongst each other.
Viserys stepped down from the throne, and as Aerion was glancing back at Rhaenyra, the king placed his hand on his shoulder "It is good to have you back, Aerion, this is not what I wanted your return to be like, I am sure you can forgive me."
"I understand, my king, I have missed you both while I was away." he said, as Rhaenyra walked up to the pair "And I believe congratulations are in order, Laenor told me that the princess is pregnant." he smiled at Rhaenyra "This is a blessing upon our house."
"Indeed it is, I will leave you both to talk." Viserys patted him on the shoulder a few times, making Aerion roll his eyes in irritation.
"Would you like to take a walk in the Gardens, Princess?" he clasped his hands infront of him, walking down the isle as he looked to Rhaenyra with a smile as she walked beside him "You and Laenor must be very happy with the news." he attempted to gain some distance, fearing that someone may be listening until they were truly alone.
"We are, though he comes and goes often, I believe he preferred the salted air of Driftmark to the confined halls of The Red Keep - where you do not know when one may be keeping an eye on you." she replied.
"I do not blame him - though he should be here, it is his duty as your husband and future father to your child." they eventually made it to the Gardens on the eastern side of the Red Keep, stone paths led in all directions, though they decided to go down the centre, passing a stoned statue of King Jahaerys I Targaryen.
"How does it feel to be a dragon rider? Syrax was born to me so I have always had a curiosity of what it feels like to claim one." she asked him.
"It feels exhilarating, I now know how you feel to be up in the skies, the wind against your face, the entire world beneath you, and there is a connection that I can not understand, it almost as if he can read my mind." he continued "Daemon says the connection between rider and dragon will be one that no one will ever understand."
"You spoke with Daemon?" she responded
"I did, he is currently at Runestone with Lady Laena, I am sure you heard of their marriage?" he asked, to which he swiftly nodded her head "He is teaching me how to properly control Gaelithox, to train me for the stepstones."
They reached an overlook of the blackwater bay, and Rhaenyra placed her hands on the stone railing while Aerion turned and leaned against it, the same warm smile on his lips as he looked to her, trailing his eyes down to her stomach "Are you okay? You haven't talked much."
"I am just worried, that is all." she took a deep breath "My mother died from childbirth, and my brother died.." a tear dropped down her skin "What if the same thing was to happen to me?"
"It won't." he shook his head, placing his hand over hers "You are strong, and fierce, your fate is not to die on the birthing bed, he trailed his hand towards her stomach, and whispered in her ear "Our child will be ruler of these lands, and we'll crush anyone who opposes us." she looked up at him and he smirked.
"I have truly missed you." she replied "With Laenor being away so much; I have felt so alone here in The Red Keep, even with my ladies, I see how the queen's followers look at me when I pass them, despite who I am." she continued "We even have a name for them now, the greens." Aerion chuckled at the name that had been given to them.
"The Greens?" he asked "Is it those ugly dresses she insists on wearing?" he grinned, and leaned in closer to Rhaenyra "And what do they call us?" he looked down at what she was wearing, and was not surprised to see her in the black and red of their house "The Blacks?" he shook his head, peering down at her once again "You tease me, why must you look so beautiful?"
"Give me enough compliments and you will make me blush, Aerion." Rhaenyra answered.
"Well I will be sure to continue during my stay in Kings' Landing." he replied "But I very much want to do more than that." he smirked, trailing his hand down from her stomach, though she pushed his hand away.
"Are you mad? Not here of all places, we don't know who might be watching." she said, causing Aerion to grunt and roll his eyes.
"Fine, we'll have it your way." he turned back around to face the blackwater bay, gripping tightly onto the railing "Though I will have you soon, ready yourself tonight, and wear nothing fancy"he said, switching to the Valyrian tongue "I will ensure there is a place where we won't be disturbed."
"Only if you agree to go flying with me on the morrow before the court reconvenes, I long to see you on dragonback." she responded.
"If that is what you command, Princess, though I must warn you, Gaelithox is rather quick for his age and size."he chuckled.
They continued to speak about what they had been up to since Aerion left Kings' Landing last, and he told her all about the troubles in the Vale, though told her nothing of his journey to Dragonstone and what he found there, still trying to figure that out himself, they spoke for hours.
It wasn't long until Rhaenyra had to go to the small council meeting, a kingsguard knight escorting her away and he watched as she left, then traveled out of The Red Keep and into the city, Jory told him all about the city on their journey to Runestone, mainly where all the great establishments were, who to speak to whenever you want to know information, if there was something to be known in this city, Jory was more than happy to tell him.
Though there was one place that stood above all the other establishments, one that princes had been going to for as long as the Street of Silk was first built, it was called 'The Maiden' Jory once told him the girls would make his cock rise as soon as he walked through the door.
He arrived at where it was supposed to be, down a dark alleyway from where most of the establishments were and where the majority of the foot traffic had been, and there was only a rough looking building that looked as if it was never inhabited, and had a thick red wooden door, he banged on it a few times and it was a while before someone finally opened up.
A blonde women in a blue silk dress smiled at him "Well aren't you handsome." she said "It has been a while since a Targaryen prince has graced us with their presence."
"Oh really? And how do you know I am Targaryen? I could be some fisherman from Lys, or better yet, a bastard fathered on one of your whores." Aerion stated, smirking at the woman, who gently grabbed him by the hand and led him into the establishment.
"I just know - there is a fire behind those lilac eyes of yours." the woman responded, her fingers running up his arm, Aerion's eyes gazed at the establishment, it looked much more elegant than it did on the outside, myrish carpets were on the floor, there was a circular room with a lifted-up floor in the centre, he soon turned back to the woman "What brings you here?"
"I am looking for somewhere discreet…where I may indulge in sins that are just for me to know." her hand remained on him, trailing from his arm to his chest and then further down "I am willing to pay whatever price."
"We have many girls to choose from - all of them are the finest you'll get in Kings' Landing." she replied "we have everything our clients need, perhaps it isn't our experience girls you are looking for, but we have plenty of maidens…perhaps it is a boy you wish for." she whispered the last part seductively in his ear despite the establishment being empty, and he rolled his eyes in annoyance.
"I don't want any of them, I have my own…I just need a place where we will not be disturbed by anyone..now I will ask again, can this be arranged?" the woman took her hand off from him, and clasped them.
"This can be arranged, my prince, if you would follow me I will show you our finest room." she led him from the establishment and it was long before he heard sounds of both excitement and distress as they passed rooms that had been taken up already.
"What's your name?" he asked the woman.
"I am Rose, the owner of this fine establishment." Rose introduced herself "I apologize for the noise, but as I said, we have everything our clients need."
"I would have thought such an establishment belonged in Flea Bottom." he pointed out "From the sounds, one could say acts of depravity are committed here."
"If we were set up in Flea Bottom, all the great noblemen and merchants would not come here.." Rose added "We get clients of all type, and we try our best to provide them with the best, no matter how vile some of them wish to be, everything comes with a price." they came to a room at the far back of the establishment "Just through here." she said, opening up the door.
The room was exquisite, a massive canopy bed took up most of the space, and the room was well lit with candles, and there was several myrish cushions in the corner where one could sit "It will do, how much?"
"For you, I will give it for free, it is always an honor to have a prince of the realm spend their time here at 'The Maiden'." she said and Aerion shook his head.
"No, nothing is ever free - you said so yourself, everything comes with a price, so what is yours?" he asked her.
"Very well - one hundred gold dragons for our discretion." Aerion nodded his head in agreement.
"You shall receive that amount of gold very soon, I assure you." he replied, and asked her to leave as he looked through the room, there was a balcony that led out to overlook a small garden area, to which he opened up the doors and looked out, impressed with how the establish looked so abandoned yet elegant at the same time.
