Hey everyone! So it's been a decent amount of time since I've touched this fic- but alas I have returned with another chapter! Thank you to everyone who's read and enjoyed my story so far! Also a big thanks to a friend who gave me just the nudge I needed to get back into this story :)
Dipper woke up, the soft glow of the moon bearing down on him. As he slowly opened his eyes he quickly noted he wasn't in his bed. In fact, he was laying on the cold grass covered ground. Why was he outside? His body stung as he stood up slowly, bracing as his shoulder made a low cracking sound. Lying on the ground for an unknown amount of time is always a back killer; he's done it plenty of times. Now what begs the question is why he was lying on the ground.
Dipper's head spun as he tried to collect his thoughts. He checked his phone to read the time. His phone was almost dead and it was a quarter past midnight. He took a step and looked around him. The small glade he was in seemed familiar, vines spread across the floor. He took in the sight of the disturbed ground around him. He almost didn't recognize the body lying on the other side. With slight caution, Dipper took a few steps closer.
The body had a mop of golden blonde hair and a strange black vest. Upon closer inspection Dipper noticed he had an eye-patch covering his left eye. In the center was a small white outline of an eye with a slit pupil. The strange symbol seem all too familiar. As if it was haunting him. Is this..
He stumbled back in shock. Was this?- No, it couldn't be- it wasn't possible. The events of the night prior flooded his mind. It was, in fact, possible and he made the deal to make it so. The man unconscious in front of him was none other than the dream demon they once banished. Bill Cipher was back from the dead and in a human form.
How stupid could he be?! The last time Bill was introduced to a human body he threw it down a flight of stairs and tried to steal the journal! Why did he think it was a great idea to bring him back into the world? What was he thinking? One thing was for certain, Dipper had to make sure there was no possible way for Bill to find another rift. If he wasn't dead, that is. Dipper watched him until he could see his chest rise indicating he was breathing. Which he was, unfortunately. How was he going to get him to the Shack by himself? He wasn't going to leave him alone.
Dipper heaved Bill's limp body over his shoulder and slowly stumbled his way to the Mystery Shack. On his way there he texted Mabel to meet him at the shack. Dipper was just making it out of the wood line as Mabel pulled up.
"No way, is that really Bill?" His sister questioned.
"The one and only. Can you open the door?" Dipper responded. He was tired from carrying Bill through the woods.
Mabel poked Bill in the cheek. "He's not like, dead, right?" Dipper rolled his eyes.
"I wouldn't be carrying his body into our house if he was dead, Mabel. Door?" He repeated.
"Oh, right." She skipped her way to the porch and unlocked the back door for him. Dipper half dragged Bill's body into the living room and rolled him onto the couch. The twins had convinced Stan to buy a new one after one of Mabel's "pets" chewed a hole through his recliner. Although Bill wasn't placed down gracefully, he still seemed to be in a deep sleep. The transition between his demon form and his new form must have been far too much for him to handle. How would Bill accustom to his new life?
How do you think people turn into demons? Bill's voice rang in his head. He's bluffing; people don't just 'turn' into demons. Dipper shook the thought out of his head as Mabel spoke up.
"So, what do we do now?" For the first time in a while Dipper had no idea. He always had a plan; a back-up. He hadn't thought hard enough on this. What were they going to do? Dipper looked at the clock. It was nearly one in the morning.
"You should go ahead and get some sleep, Mabel. It might be awhile before Bill even wakes up." Dipper suggested. There wasn't much they could do with him in this state.
"Do you want to take turns watching him?" She asked. Dipper shook his head.
"No, it's fine. I doubt I'd be able to sleep anyhow. Plus, you've been busy helping Pacifica. Speaking of which; you never told what kind of event she's having."
Mabel grinned at the mention of the party. "She's throwing herself a grand ball for her eighteenth birthday. It's going to be so great. You really should see the colours she picked out." Dipper smiled at the mention of his friends birthday. It was almost June, the start of the summer. After the mansion incident him and Pacifica had grown closer as friends, as well as Mabel. He knew she wouldn't admit it, but he can tell she liked Pacifica more than she lets on.
Mabel bid her brother good night and headed towards the stairs. She stopped half way up the steps and turned around. "Hey, Dip?" She asked hesitantly.
"What's up, Mabes?" He responded.
"You don't think he'll start another weird-apocalypse, right?" She bit her lip nervously. It was her who told Dipper Bill might be in real trouble, but that doesn't mean she isn't worried still.
Dipper turned to look at the sleeping figure. In this state he looked harmless, but he knew who this was. No one knows why he started the apocalypse in the first place, but would he be stupid to try it again? "There's really no way of knowing. The best we can do is stop him if he does," Mabel nodded. "I'm not even sure he the ability to anymore..." Dipper added on in a slight whisper.
Mabel knew he was right. If Bill had any plans on taking over the world again, they had the upper hand. For now all they could do was wait for him to regain consciousness. Mabel smiled softly. She also knew her brother would make sure everything worked out. "Good night, dipping dots." She headed back up the steps.
"Night Mabel." He called after her.
Once Mabel was out of sight Dipper was left alone. Well, not entirely. Bill was still asleep on the couch besides him. Although his body was relaxed, his face seemed to convey pain. Was he having a nightmare? Dipper dug out a pencil and his journal from his backpack. He flipped through the pages covered in drawings. Every so often there was a small passage and details about the creature he drew. Dipper loved to learn about the strange beings that lived in the Falls, but he also found he loved drawing more. Each page was filled from top to bottom of sketches and drawings of different entities. He flipped to an almost empty page he started recently. It had a simple triangle in the top corner and a few sketches of the demonic triangular being. Dipper sat on the floor close to the demon-turned-human. As time went on he drew a rough outline of the other, adding text about his new form.
Dipper logged every change he could about the subjects he drew. Drawing helped him understand different forms of life better. As if capturing the image of things gives him a new perspective on them. Bill was one of the few things Dipper couldn't understand. He wanted desperately to uncover the mysteries surrounding the other. He wanted to tear apart the layers of fabricated lies and he wanted to reveal what drives him to think and act the way he does. Every supernatural creature he has met, humanoid and not, have all had a reason to act the way they do. Weather it be fear, nature, or nurture. Was Bill this way due to nature or nurture? He mentioned that demons used to be people; was he a human before? Everything had happened all at once, it was hard for him to process that Bill was back, and in the shack. Dipper paused over the lead markings on the page. He looked back up at Bill's sleeping form. There really was no denying what had happened. Bill's back, and he helped bring him here.
