The waltz. The most romantic of the slow, ballroom dances. Diana knew it by heart, including the more complex twirls and dips that fully encompassed the experience. The swish of the dresses against the polished floors. The click of high heels in rhythm with the strings of the orchestra. Every moment was magical. All she had to do was wait for the music to begin.

Her partner giggled when she rested her hand on Diana's shoulder. "I can't believe we're doing this. All the lessons paid off, didn't they?"

"Well, just remember you get the first round, then we're giving Sucy a turn. We can't leave out our wife, Akko." Diana could hardly take her eyes off the beautiful young woman in her arms. The long-sleeved lace wedding gown trimmed with satin ribbons perfectly highlighted her figure and painted a stunning visage for all present to enjoy.

"I wouldn't dream of it. After our waltzes, we're going to the trio circle dance we practiced, right? I can't wait to do that one." Akko's face shone with joy as she gazed into Diana's green eyes. "I love you, more than anything!"

"I love you too. Let's dance, my bride." Diana pressed a quick kiss on her lips as the music began. Everything else faded, with the exception of the smiling faces of her two wives. One at a time, she spun them around the room in an elegant dance.

The songs ebbed and flowed, guiding her steps until she was taking the hands of both Akko and Sucy for the coordinated dance they had rehearsed. Then the applause began, building louder and louder til it overwhelmed her senses and–

"Diana! Wake up!" Akko clapped near her face. "C'mon! Don't sleep away all of our day off!"

"You're one to talk," Sucy pointed out, her voice softer than their exuberant girlfriend.

Diana blinked her eyes open to find Akko bouncing on the edge of her bed. Her hair was pulled back in a full ponytail, and she had traded in her traditional dark witch's dress for a long sleeved white gown with a red belt that immediately reminded Diana of her dream.

"How late is it?" She ran a hand through her hair as she sat up. Sleeping in was something she enjoyed, when afforded the opportunity. But it was rare, especially with her restless girlfriends.

"Lunchtime," Sucy informed her. "And don't let Akko fool you. She's been awake a whole fifteen minutes ahead of you."

"Suuuuccccyyyy! Why do you have to pick on me like that?" Akko pouted. She stuck out her tongue at the potion maker who merely shrugged from where she sat on the opposite bed.

"It's the truth, like it or not."

"Okay, okay. Let me up. If neither of you object, I've got a rather fun idea for what to do after we eat." Diana lovingly swatted at Akko who yelped and dodged out of her range.

"What might that be?" Sucy asked, raising an eyebrow. "If it's another makeover session, I'm out."

"It is not. I will show you after brunch."

Akko groaned as she plopped down on the bed beside Sucy. "That's not fair! Why can't you tell us now?"

"I like keeping you in suspense." Diana couldn't help the playful grin that crossed her face. "It's amusing to see your impatience."

"Yes, well, let's go! I'm hungry and I can't wait to see what she's got up her sleeves." Akko bounced on her backside, jostling her unamused girlfriend.

"One would think we never feed you," Sucy deadpanned. "Come on. We'll meet you in the kitchens when you're dressed."

Diana mouthed a silent 'thank you' to Sucy behind Akko's back as her two girlfriends headed out. A couple minutes of blissful silence to wake up and collect herself allowed her to reason out what she was planning on doing. With a smile on her face, she brushed out her hair, smoothed the wrinkles out her bell-sleeved powder blue dress, and headed down to join the others.

An hour later, Diana led Akko and Sucy into the smaller of Luna Nova's ballrooms. She smiled as she turned to face her girlfriends. "My aunt typically hosts a summer ball, and I will not allow you to embarrass yourselves if we attend. So, welcome to dance class. Akko, you're my first pupil."

"What? Why me?!" Akko pouted and crossed her arms. "Shouldn't Sucy go first?"

"I've had some dance training before," Sucy helpfully pointed out. "I'll break out the chair and popcorn. This will be entertaining."

"You do that. Akko, will you go to our room and retrieve the music player?"

"You're sending me to my doom," Akko grumbled. She shot Sucy a dark look as she slowly plodded out the door.

Sucy waited til she was out of the room before flashing a faintly sadistic smile at Diana. "It's gonna be beautiful to see her squirm. I hope you're ready to get your feet stepped on. You and I both know her clumsiness isn't going to let up."

"I'm counting on it." Diana pulled her into a hug. "I'll be excited to see your dancing skills too."

"They're nowhere near as good as yours, I'm sure, but they'll suffice." Sucy gently returned the hug. "Thanks for giving us something fun to do with our afternoon."

"Anytime. It should be entertaining at the very least. Best prepare that popcorn."

Sucy's eyes went wide. "Right. I best get on that before she returns. Need anything from the kitchens?"

"Some water would be lovely, but otherwise, no, thank you." Diana watched her girlfriend go before she turned to the empty ballroom. She hummed under her breath, spinning in slow, sweeping circles with an invisible partner.

"Wow. That's beautiful."

Diana turned to find Akko leaning against the doorway with the player in hand. "Precisely why I want to teach you. Ballroom dancing can be beautiful, if you're willing to take the time for practice."

"I'll give it a try." Akko sighed and plugged in the music player. "You have a song in mind?"

"No. We'll be using a variety of orchestral pieces." Diana walked over and knelt to connect her phone to the player. She scrolled through her lists for a moment before finding one that she liked. She hit 'play', then straightened. She walked silently to the center of the room before turning and gesturing for Akko to join her.

"You weren't planning on starting without me, were you?" Sucy strode back into the room with a folding chair in one hand and a bowl of popcorn in the other.

"Sucy! You're supposed to be on my side, not watching with popcorn!" The exuberant brunette stuck her tongue at her girlfriend before dragging her feet over to Diana.

"Don't look so excited," Diana deadpanned. "This will be rather fun, if you tackle it with your usual enthusiasm. Unless you'd rather have Sucy prove herself first."

She could practically see the competitive streak in Akko activate the moment she mentioned their girlfriend's name. Diana smiled to herself while watching the wheels turn in her head.

"I won't let Sucy get the better of me! Tell me what I have to do!" Akko stubbornly cried. Her fists balled at her sides and her eyes brightened with determination.

"Hand on my shoulder, and take my other hand. Mine will go on your waist. No limp arms. But you also need to have a steady, but not rigid form."

Akko looked down at her feet, then from Diana's body to her own. "Like this?"

"Yes. Keep that frame. And remember: this is your dance space." Diana moved her hand in front of Akko. "And this is mine." She gestured in front of herself.

"So, does this mean that I'm not allowed to cuddle while we're dancing?" Akko pouted her lip but flashed a saucy grin to her girlfriend.

"Maybe after, if you're good." Diana couldn't help but smile. "Now, the steps follow a simple rhythm. One-two-three, two-two-three. Big, little, little. Watch my feet. I'll show you."

Akko's tongue stuck out in concentration as she tried to focus on what Diana was teaching her. "That's it?"

"Those are the basics. You try it with me. One-two-three, two-two-three." Diana winced when Akko's foot covered hers. "Carefully. Follow my lead. One-two-three–"

"One." Sucy called from the edge of the room.

"What are you counting?" Akko asked, staring at her feet while she tried not to stumble.

"Number of times you step on her feet, of course."

"Oh, screw you, Sucy! Why do you have to be so mean to me!?" Akko stumbled and stepped on Diana's toes again. "Ahhh, crap!"

"Two."

"Shut up!"

Diana giggled and kept Akko from falling. "Don't worry about it. You'll get the hang of it. Sucy went through the same thing when she was first learning too, I'm sure."

"Yes, but I didn't step on my partner's toes every three seconds."

"No, because you practiced with a dummy rather than a real partner until you got a hang of the steps. That's what most dance classes do."

Sucy rolled her eyes and took another bite of popcorn without denying it.

Diana carefully led Akko through a large sweeping circle of the ballroom. By the time it was completed, Akko had stepped on her toes nearly a half dozen more times with Sucy calling out each occasion. But, in the last couple of sequences, Akko's confidence had soared, and she had managed to tear her eyes from her feet and meet Diana's loving gaze.

"There you go," Diana cooed with a smile. "It's not as difficult as you think it might be. Just don't overthink it."

"I won't," Akko said stubbornly. "Again."

"Once more around the ballroom then." Diana took a deep breath and led her girlfriend. This time, all went smoothly while they circled. Diana included additional spins and flourished steps. Perfect, until it came to the final turn.

"Look at us! We did it!" Akko crowed, clinging onto her girlfriend in excitement.

"One more trick to show you. Do you trust me? Hold on tight. Step, close, step. Turn, and lean back!" Diana tipped Akko back in a romantic dip.

At least, that was the goal. Akko shrieked, and clung tightly, causing Diana to lose her balance, so both of them tumbled to the floor in a stunned heap.

"Are you alright?" Sucy set down her bowl and rushed over to them.

Akko moved first, rolling onto her back and laughing hysterically. "Oh my god! That was AMAZING! What were you even trying to do!?"

"It's called a dip, and it's supposed to be romantic." Diana panted, then she too laughed. "I should've known better than to try it. You're too clumsy, and I'm not strong enough to support all your weight if you trip."

"Yes, but what a trip it was." Akko cackled. "Oh, Sucy, you have to try this!"

Sucy stepped back, shaking her head. "No. You're mad. Both of you. If you think I'm gonna be involved in this madness when I already know how to waltz, then–"

"Oh, you know how to waltz." Diana sat up and looked Sucy up and down. "But have you ever done the polka?"

"Oh no. No, no, no. You can't do this to me. You can't drag me–" Sucy protested, backing up. "No, I won't do it."

"Yes, yes, yes! Oh, this calls for more popcorn." Akko burst to her feet and grabbed for the empty bowl. But she turned on her heel and raced back to plant a kiss on a startled Diana's lips. "And thank you. That was more fun than I expected."

"Anytime." Diana replied breathlessly. She touched her mouth as if to keep the kiss in place while Akko darted off, still giggling.

Sucy buried her face in her hands. "I'm going to regret this, aren't I?"

"Perhaps. But remember this, Sucy. With us around, life is never boring." Diana smiled and caught her by the wrist, pulling her in for a tight hug. "Now, then. Shall we dance?"
