Ocean Miracle

Chapter Fifteen: Was This Really It?

Before she could splash even more salt water in his face, Beck grabbed a hold of Cat's hands and kissed her. He pulled away, scrunching up his nose in disgust, but that smile on his face told her that he was about to mess with her about something. "Ew, you taste like salt." He was only teasing.

Cat giggled throwing water at his perfect hair before sticking out her tongue. "Well, we're floating around in the ocean. What'd you expect? Besides, you taste like salt too!"

He scoffed trying to act superficial. "Well, I'm sexy so it doesn't matter." She only rolled her eyes before laughing. "Hey, look." Beck pulled her out of her thoughts and pointed at something. She followed his direction to see people cliff jumping into the waves of the beach. It wasn't from an extremely high point, but it still looked pretty scary. "We should do it."

"What? No! Are you crazy?"

Beck wrapped his arm around her waist already leading her onto the sand and to her doom. "Oh, come on, don't be a scaredy Cat. It looks fun."

She threw a fake laugh. "Yeah, it looks extremely fun, if you want to die."

"Oh, come onnnnnn!" He whined hugging her from behind and placing his chin on her shoulder as they walked to where their things had been slobbily thrown onto the sand in a quick attempt to go into the salty waters of the beach. "You liked, no, loved the Gorilla Club. You said that it was fun and made you feel all badass," okay, so maybe those weren't her exact words, especially the badass part, but he was trying convince her. He was willing to pull cards that don't necessarily need to be pulled. "And you love the thrill of danger, right?" He then puckered her cheek with a huge kiss to top the icing on the cake. He even stopped her in her tracks, pulled her body closer to his, and hugged her tightly. So what he didn't want to jump off that cliff as much as he was making it seem, but he loved it when Cat did extreme things, not that he wanted her to be in danger or anything, and not being able to hang out with her since the whole Jade break up makes you miss a lot of things.

She scratched her chin in thought and he crossed his fingers hoping she'd say yes because it did look a little exciting. "Well, it doesn't look that high of a drop." She muttered to herself. Did that mean a yes? She spun around in his arms with a bright smile and his hopes went up even higher. "Okay," she shrugged like it was no big deal with that beautiful grin plastered on her face. "Let's go!"

Yes! And this time, it was her having to keep up with his pace as he dragged her along with him.

Standing on the high point and staring below at the rushing waves and rocks, Beck was having second thoughts. Cat hopped in front of him and poked an accusing finger to his bare chest.

"Aww, is Becky Wecky scared?" A smug smile spread across her face as she placed a hand on her hip. "Weren't you the one who wanted to come in the first place?" This time, she wasn't making fun of him. She was squeezing his hand reassuring him that all was fine.

He took a step forward and looked down. The jumping part wasn't scaring him. That wasn't it. He had jumped off a balcony wearing a dress for Tori when she was too scared to do her stunt for the movie and he wasn't scared at all. That was worse than landing in water, so what was edging him out then?

"Come on, Beck. Like you said, it isn't that bad." She cocked her head to the side examining the worry and concentration etched on his face. He never ignored her before. Something was wrong, but she wasn't going to bug him about it. "We don't have to if you don't want to."

Beck blinked as he saw her soft expression and the way she was swing their arms back and forth. She was right. It couldn't be bad. He chuckled before squeezing her hands shrugging off any worries he had. "Let's jump."

Cat giggled a quick yay before they ran off the edge making the other crazy teens that were with them cheer as they watched the couple plummet into the water.

Cat wrapped her arms around his chest as she waited for his head to pop out of the water. As soon as it did, she laughed at his goofy grin. "See, told you it wasn't scary." He chuckled pressing a kiss on her temple.

"Psh, says the guy who froze up at last minute." He simply stuck out his tongue at her.

"Hey, Beck, Cat! Come over here!" The pair turned their heads over to who called them to see it was that one guy. Adam? Beck didn't remember, but he was floating over to a small boat waving them over. "I rented a boat so I wouldn't have to swim to shore! You guys can hop in too if you want!" He shouted loudly.

"Kay kay! Thanks, Adam!" Cat yelled back. That was nice of him. She pulled Beck's hand and they swam over to the boat that had ten other people their age in it. She followed Adam up onto the boat and giggled as Beck almost slipped. And she thought that she was the clumsy one.

He wrapped his arm around her waist and kissed her cheek once the boat had started heading its way to shore. He didn't think that they were far, but whatever, free ride. Out of the corner of his eye he could have sworn he saw a glaring Nico boring his eyes through him, but shrugged it off when he saw the jerk laughing with a girl in his arms as Cat stepped onto her tip toes whispering something she had noticed. She nudged him to look at a girl and they both went into a fit of hushed laughter. Cat saw the most random things. She was very observant.

His eyes widened as someone crashed into him and he found himself letting Cat go and toppling over the boat he had been standing so closely to the edge. He winced as water knocked the air out of his chest and pushed his head below. He hit his legs on the hard metal, but forced himself to bounce on the soles of his feet to breathe in air. He found extreme difficulty as the waves smacked him around until he was spluttering out salty water and squeezing his eyes close.

Was this it? Was he really going to drown?

He struggled and struggled, but no one came. Had no one cared? Not even the one he thought he loved? His head felt like it was going to explode due to the lack of air, but he'd keep pushing. He hadn't even realized the arms wrapping around his torso and that he could finally touch the seashell shard filled ocean floor.

As he was being pulled onto the sand the last thing he saw was red velvet silky hair before his vision blurred.
