Luke, Jasper, and I were running in a triangle type shape and I was in the center, while Luke and Jasper were flanking me just a few steps ahead. My dad walked out of an oncoming hallway, dodging Jasper, who was on my right.
Like I said I didn't have much practice on being a vampire, or anything that came with it, so when Luke and Jasper stopped on a dime I kept running. Straight into the chest of my dad. He kind of stopped my momentum and broke my fall.
We fell and with an ouph I was on the ground with my dad under me. Luke and Jasper had stepped back too.
Quickly, faster than I thought possible, I stood up and stepped away from him. Back between Jasper and Luke, Luke was stiff, his face was nothing but I could see the hurt in his eyes as he looked at my dad.
As for my dad, he looked hurt too but physically more than anything else. Instead of standing up like I had, he stood up slowly, holding just below his ribcage where I think I elbowed him, hard probably. His face looked controlled, but his eyes and body posture were betraying when than control; he was clearly in much pain.
Jasper stiffened too, both Luke and Jasper to a step towered me, my dad may have looked week but he could also be faking it and if that was the case then Luke was the only one who would be ready to fight him.
"Brandy," He hissed my name but between his teeth, it looked like that only put him in more pain though. "Wait." He tried to take a step to me but immediately regretted it when Luke took a step at him.
My father glared at him before continuing. "You need to get your brothers out of here." That I was not expecting.
"Yeah, we knew, that's what we're doing, Noah. And you look too weak to stop us." Luke but in before I had a chance to reply.
"I know and I am," I wasn't expecting him to admit that either. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for him, but also a little suspicious. He was my dad and not that I was going to trust him; I couldn't thrust him, not anymore. His kids were taking from him the night Jasper broke my neck⦠"but I'm not here to stop you, more concerned about my kids."
He looked at me and even though he was in pain, the hurt and the look of desperately needing help held me. My father needed help, but finding him here helping the enemy, hurt. I didn't have time for my feelings about him though; we could only make a shaky truce, if one at all. I wanted to help my brothers and he wanted to help his kids.
"What happened to Dylan and Hayden?" I asked, the last time I saw them they were trying to kill me. I couldn't hold it against them though, but if I was going to seek in and get out undetected I had to know what was wrong with them so I could help them.
Luke and Jasper started squirming, probably because we were running out of time. Yes, we needed to get the others out and yes, we needed to hurry but I couldn't help myself. I loved my brothers and as much as they needed to save the rest of the Vampire race I needed to help my brothers.
"They will not be a problem at the moment, but you need to help them and get them out though. Your mother did things to them. For now we need to help Nathan and the rest. I can take you to where their being held."
"Why should we trust you?" Luke spoke up holding me back as I started following my dad, I was suspicious of him but wanted to help my family more. He turned back to face us and a feeling caught me when I looked into his eyes. I couldn't tell what it was but chills shot down my back that told me things were going to become bad, soon.
"Do I have any reason to lie to you Luke? Did I ever have any reason to lie to you? I need to make sure my kids are safe; I want them to be safe. Just like you would. If there was any reason you came into this building it was to do anything to get your kids out. I don't have that option anymore, not after what happened. So, go ahead and not trust me but trusting me is the only way you're ever going to find what you're looking for."
My father seemed to hit a nerve with the "save your kids thing" because Luke hesitated but nodded slowly and started to follow, with reluctance. Jasper looked to me he hadn't said anything but the air around him felt unsure, almost like he somehow got the same feeling I had.
"It's right up here, after some of the Vampires were captured they were starved of blood and made weak so they would be able to fight back and escape." We walked farther down the hall, slower than I would have liked, and passed a couple other hallways and passed other doors that led to other rooms. Curiosity was biting me in the ass to know what was farther down the halls or what they could possibility be doing behind the closed doors, but soon we made it to what we were looking for.
This was the only door that was made out of steel. I doubted it was hollow. My father leaned on the rock wall next to it, he looked tired. Like just walking made him want to pass out but when he turned to look at me I couldn't help but see the longing, regret, and pain, and maybe something else but I couldn't make it out.
Luke cleared his throat, "were running out of time we need to get in and out quickly and quietly."
"This door and the medical room and some of the only few that have backup generators." There was no keypad or handle on the door. It was just a big slap of steel and the outline of a door knob with a card scanned underneath it.
"The only way to get in is with a key card," My father continued and I looked at him funny. How was this going to work than, did we just walk into a trap? As soon as the thought passed my mind my dad reached into his pocket and took out a plastic card.
Now I felt kind of lame, why couldn't I trust my father? I was trusting that this make shift plan was going to work with people I just meet, but I couldn't trust my father whom I've known my life.
Figures.
My father swiped the card and the out lined door knob popped out of the door, now there was a handle we could use to get in the door. Jasper reached for it but my dad slapped his hand away.
"The door knob is DNA scanning, you touch it and you set off an alarm that going to bring every last Vampire in this building running at you." He said bitterly, maybe he really was on our side.
Noah reached for the knob and opened the door, and at that moment I regretted ever loving my father.
As soon as the door opened I knew the bad feeling I had been correct. The first thing to fall was Luke, then Jasper. I waited for when I was going to pass out but the only thing I could feel falling was my heart.
Why so short you ask?
Why so many cliffhangers, you ask?
Well I really don't have the answers, except that I like to leave cliffhangers and that was all I could think of last night when I wrote it. Thanks for reading by the way, I still don't know when I'm going to update next though but like I said I will finish. BYE!
